The early 1990s has reputation for being the worst era in modern pro wrestling history and, to an extent, that is true. However, there were many diamonds in this rough era and Ric Flair regaining the WCW from Vader after his original opponent Sid Vicious was fired is one of those! HALLOWEEN HAVOC REWIND!WCW's Halloween Havoc 1997 took place on October 26, 1997 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It garnered a 1.10 pay-per-view buyrate, and Nick Piccone was among those. WCW in 1997 was red hot and the road to Starrcade was no different. With a couple of bumps along the way, however, Halloween Havoc that year was a microcosm of what was to come for WCW. Pretty good start - lame finish. We dive deep into all the matches and happening of this time frame in our latest deep dive!

I continue my history of pro wrestling series today looking at November 1985 which is taken from my book DragonKingKarl's 1984-1985 Pro Wrestling Omnibus. The young death of 'Quick Draw' Rick McGraw stunned wrestling and started a false urban legend. Thanksgiving in 1985 was a huge deal in wrestling and there were major cards by the WWF, World Class, AWA, and the biggest one of all: NWA Starrcade. Also in this month, an off-hand remark in a promo gives birth to the most famous stable in pro wrestling. Join me as well look back at this historic month in pro wrestling history.

To say Hulk Hogan had a complicated legacy would be an understatement. On one end, he started a wrestling boom that despite some bumps along the road (which Matt and I are covering on our Tag Team Wrestling Podcast) eventually turned the then WWF into a juggernaut and publicly owned company. However, it was within these beginnings that Hogan helped put a stop to the possibility of a wrestling union being formed. On one end, he made hundreds of wrestlers millions of dollars. On the other, he has been accused of holding guys down and breaking promises to others. And of course, you have his run in WCW, where he once again turned the wrestling world on its head, making it the top company for over 80 weeks. Yet, Hogan also was at the center of a Starrcade screw job that should have been a clean win for Sting, yet another broken program with Bret Hart, and the infamous Finger Poke of Doom. All of this doesn't include his TNA run, and his foray into reality tv. To cover this varied and sometimes controversial career, I turned to a guy who I have spoken about dead wrestlers with in the past. Tubi Tuesday's very own Mike Batchelor (Batch) joins me to mostly talk about what Hulk Hogan the character meant to us as kids, and what we feel his lasting legacy will be. I then end the show talking about how the next few weeks of our main Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast (we still have a new movie about a man in blue and red tights to cover) is going to look like, as well as planned future guests on Percolated Media Presents. Oh, and the very end of the show includes a little tribute to someone else who passed away last week, the one and only Ozzy Osbourne. Very sad week for us generation x'ers, one that we will never forget. Not for what the people were as individuals, but what they did to inspire us through their work. (Originally aired November 2020 on the Place to Be Nation feed) In this episode, the team welcomes Scott Shifflett to break down a red-hot month of NWA action from August 1985. Highlights include: A brief and forgettable reign ends for Mid-Atlantic Champion Buzz Tyler—gone almost as soon as he arrived. MVP promos from Ole Anderson, Ric Flair, Magnum T.A., and Tully Blanchard steal the spotlight. Not-so-MVP promos from Dusty Rhodes, including one that notably doesn't age well in 2020. The underrated brilliance of Baby Doll shines through, as the group agrees Dusty needs to back off. Two standout angles: a six-man match ending in a broken arm and a memorable Magnum T.A. legal confrontation that sparks one of the all-time great Starrcade bouts. An intense Ric Flair vs. The Russians confrontation, including a hidden gem NWA World Title match between Flair and Nikita Koloff from the Omni, laying groundwork for long-term storylines. A strong month for Sam Houston... until a disastrous match with Black Bart derails momentum. Terry Taylor's continued blandness as he challenges Tully for the U.S. Title. More groans as Jimmy Valiant appears in two matches, including a Six-Man Tag Title defense by the Russians—shockingly rated over 2 stars by some. A U.S. Tag Title bout featuring Billy Jack Haynes & Wahoo McDaniel vs. Rick Rude & Jack Hart (with a legendary manager). Paul Jones challenges Dusty for the TV Title using “his men”—but the panel agrees nobody's asking for this. The show ends with a visit to Florida, setting up a major Ric Flair vs. Wahoo McDaniel clash.

We have to skip The Great American Bash because of licensing issues making it not be on the Peacock so we watch our sixth Starrcade.

So with it being June, Scott Criscuolo & Dave Hall decided to "tweak" the King of the Ring concept and see what would happen if NWA/WCW had the concept, but called it the "Iron Man" tournament! -1989 Starrcade, a tournament instead of the dopey points system with more participants -1991, to clean up the mess of Ric Flair leaving and other Jim Herd foolishness -1995, a fresh heel challenger (or face?) for WCW Champion Hulk Hogan So sit back and enjoy the cosmic journey in time...Through the Looking Glass!

Starrcade becomes the supershow it was always meant to be with Piper vs Hogan. This show did MONSTER buisness and has some incredible matchups. Also Lex Luger steals the show again. Lots to discuss as Starrcade surpasses Wrestlemania as THE show of the year.    Plus we discuss the WWE-TNA partnership.
