Mike talks with the creative team behind Luger, a provocative Spanish thriller that blurs the line between obsession, power, and violence. Joining the conversation are filmmaker Bruno Martín, director Santiago Taboada, and producer Mario Mayo.Together, they dig into the film's origins, its unsettling themes, and the choices that shaped its stark tone and moral unease. The discussion explores the challenges of mounting an independent Spanish production, navigating international audiences, and crafting a film that resists easy answers while demanding engagement. From conception to execution, this episode pulls back the curtain on Luger and the collaborative vision that brought it to life.Learn more at https://lugerlapelicula.com/en/ Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth
I just love doing podcasts- my own and appearing on others. Here's my appearance on Heavy Metal Money with Chris Luger. Chris has been on my podcast as well on episode 36. Here's all his info from that episode… I recently met Chris Luger at the very first Unconference in Sarasota FL. The dude looked like my kind of guy- energetic, bald, full of energy. At the conference we got the chance to talk a little about real estate, money, and a shared interest in several heavy metal bands. I wanted to continue that conversation more and really dig into who he is. Man, the levels to this guy run so deep, including commercial realty and a charity he runs that I didn't even know about. Some technical trouble cut off the first two minutes of our conversation with former US Attorney Andy Luger discussing fraud and in particular how his investigation into Feeding Our Future showed now evidence of the stolen money going to terrorist groups. We also got into some fun conversations about the state of the Vikings and his time decades ago representing Dennis Rodman.

This week on Legends & Champions, we're heading to Boston for Survivor Series 1993 — a turning-point PPV where the New Generation era truly began to take shape. The Hulkamania shadows were fading, new stars were rising, and the WWF was trying to prove it could evolve without its biggest icon. We dig into everything from the All-Americans vs. The Foreign Fanatics — and the backstage drama that led to Luger replacing Hogan as the patriotic torchbearer — to the legendary Hart Family vs. Shawn Michaels & His Knights showdown, featuring Brett's master-class storytelling and the seeds of an epic family feud. Plus: Undertaker in the stars-and-stripes, Doink-filled chaos, and the kind of early-90s WWF weirdness that only Survivor Series could deliver. Was the event a bold new chapter or an awkward transition? We break it all down — the matches, the promos, the politics, and how this PPV set the stage for the mid-90s revolution to come. Dust off the tassels, fire up that Coliseum Video nostalgia, and join us for a deep dive into Survivor Series ‘93. Legends & Champions — Where wrestling's legacy lives and legends never fade.
Former US Attorney Andy Luger says there is a new pattern of violent extremism that anyone with kids needs to hear. After months of mass and school shootings and targeted murders in Minnesota and our country, many of us are asking two related questions: Why is this happening now, and what can we do about it? The number and pace of these murders seems to be increasing, and we need to know what has changed in the last few years. Many mass murders, school shootings and targeted assassinations are committed by violent extremists, people who believe in violent means to achieve an ideological end. Whether they are white supremacists or al-Qaida style terrorists, they employ violence to further a societal goal.As horrific as these violent ideologues are, there is something more concerning gathering steam in the extremist world that has law enforcement and private analysts deeply concerned — loosely based nonideological online subcultures that glorify mass murder and self-harm for its own sake, not for some larger goal. As civic, community and political leaders look for solutions to the current wave of violence, this new development requires close scrutiny and creative solutions.I first learned about the radicalization of violent extremists in 2014. As U.S. attorney, I learned from experts how ISIS recruited young men in Minneapolis to become terrorists. I then learned about how domestic extremist groups used similar recruitment techniques to persuade the disillusioned to hate Jews, African Americans, Muslims and others.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A new book is just one of multidisciplinary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger's (Mandan, Hidatsa, & Arikara and Lakota) many current creative projects. He's the 2025 artist-in-residence for Verbier 3-D Foundation, a contemporary art non-profit in Switzerland. He has new work that is part of an augmented reality exhibition with other Indigenous artists at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's American Wing. He has a public sculpture installation at the University of Massachusetts Boston. And he designed a terrifying sports mascot costume for the Jordan Peele horror film, “Him.” His new hybrid art book and graphic novel, “Surviva: A Future Ancestral Field Guide,” is a creative take on the Indigenous knowledge necessary for survival in a post-colonial future. We'll hear from Luger about his creative drive and the message thread throughout all his acclaimed work.

We're six weeks into the Nitro era and WCW seems to be picking up steam, but that's all going to come to a halt on this disastrous night. Hulk Hogan faces off with The Giant twice, once in a Monster Truck Challenge and once in the ring for the WCW Title. Lex Luger and Randy Savage both wrestle twice, with Luger facing Meng, Savage facing The Zodiac, and then them facing each other. Sting teams with Ric Flair against Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman in what surely isn't a setup.Plus we discuss WWE Crown Jewel, the new ratings tracking and the huge decline in reported wrestling viewership, and Dwyane Johnson's "The Smashing Machine."

In this episode, Ryan Koo and Jourdan Aldredge explore what makes the 20th edition of Fantastic Fest so crucial for genre and indie filmmakers. They discuss the festival's unique energy, audience connection, and events, spotlight standout films like Shelby Oaks, Sisu: Road to Revenge, Black Phone 2, Luger, Vicious, Primate, Whistle, Coyotes, and others. The conversation culminates in a new initiative—Fantastic Pitches—marking a shift in the fest's ecosystem from exhibiting work to helping get new projects made. In this episode, No Film School's Ryan Koo and Jordan Aldridge discuss: How Fantastic Fest blends genre film exhibition with audience experience, making film festivals more fun, accessible, and communal. The importance of seeing what genre filmmakers are doing with limited resources—especially horror, fantasy, action—and how those constraints often spawn creative solutions. Highlights of films at Fantastic Fest 2025: Shelby Oaks (Chris Stuckmann's debut), Sisu: Road to Revenge, Black Phone 2, Vicious, Primate, Whistle, Coyotes, The Piano Accident, and Luger among others, with a look at what makes them stand out visually, tonally, and in terms of audience response. The exciting new Fantastic Pitches competition: structure, reward (including a $100,000 funding prize, guaranteed premiere, distribution, post‑production support), what it means for early‑stage projects, and how such programs shift festivals from merely showing films toward incubating them. Practical advice for filmmakers: how to attend Fantastic Fest (buy early, badge types, use online ticket systems), pro tips for navigating ticket demand, the importance of authenticity in genre work, and why festivals like Fantastic that lean into live audience momentum are more important now than ever. Memorable Quotes: “It is the 20th year of the Fantastic Fest … Fantastic Fest equals FunTastic Fest.” “If you come from an authentic place of loving horror movies … I think the audience will always connect with it.” “It's really a vital experience now more than ever, especially for genre films, which play so well theatrically.” “Fantastic Pitches was fantastic.
