Jared Knobloh from Sports Illustrated and The Sporting Tribune stops by in part two of our look this season at the Los Angeles Clippers. Jared shares thoughts on how the team may be affected by the current Clippers drama, and how that may overshadow what many have called a very competitive team in the Western Conference. He does get into what moves the Clippers made in the offseason, and if it's enough to provide a bigger challenge against teams like Denver and Oklahoma City. Plus, he also has thoughts on the Lakers and who might wield supremacy in the Pacific Division this season. We welcome you back for our 12th Season here at the NBA Team! We start off our previews, changing it up a bit, starting with teams who are stuck in the position of being too bad to be good and too good to be bad, but most are spending like they think they have deep playoff potential- giving out max contracts, trading away future draft capital, bad drafting, this group has it all. Send us a textAlex Rodriguez is not only one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history, 22 seasons, 14 All-Star selections, and three American League MVP award, but also the founder and CEO of A-Rod Corp. Through A-Rod Corp, he has built a diversified platform across three pillars: sports, real estate, and venture capital. His portfolio spans ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, more than $2 billion invested in multifamily and other real estate, and over 60 venture investments in technology, fitness, media, and consumer brands. In this episode, Rodriguez explains how his interest in investing began at a young age, shaped by both his upbringing and the hard data he studied about professional baseball careers. Growing up in a single-parent household, he watched his mother juggle two jobs to make ends meet, which instilled in him both a fear of financial insecurity and a drive to build long-term stability. He breaks down how he approaches each asset class, from viewing team ownership as a long-duration, low-leverage asset, to focusing on levered cash flows in real estate, to applying his “VCP” filter, Vision, Capital, People, for venture investments. He also shares the story of setting the then-record $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers in 2001 and how Warren Buffett personally insured the final years of that deal. Finally he talks about the importance of investing early and often, lessons he instilled in his daughters when they were in elementary school, and why it's so important to invest early and often. It's a conversation that connects the mindset of an elite athlete with the discipline of a savvy investor. For a 14 day FREE Trial of Macabacus, click HERE For 20% off Deleteme, use the code TWSS or click the link HERE! Send us a textThis episode of "Iconic Seasons" explores a haunting parallel between basketball dynasties separated by nearly 50 years. Host Aaron Meyer examines whether the young Oklahoma City Thunder can avoid the fate of the 1977 Portland Trail Blazers - a championship team that had everything but completely collapsed within three years. The Portland Trail Blazers were a phenomenon - selling out 102 consecutive games with fans so obsessed that season tickets appeared in personal ads. Led by Bill Walton and Maurice Lucas, they seemed destined for dynasty status. But everything unraveled after Walton's ankle injury in February 1978, revealing a culture of medical mismanagement, financial disputes, and eroding trust. Players received multiple injections per game, played through undiagnosed fractures, and felt chronically underpaid. When Walton demanded a trade citing "unethical and incompetent treatment," the dynasty crumbled - only three of the 12 championship players remained after three years. Now the Thunder face similar pressures with their core trio locked into $822 million in contracts. At an average age of just 24.7, they have all the ingredients Portland had: youth, talent, chemistry, and financial security. But Meyer warns of danger signs to watch: rushed injury management, contract disputes with role players, the "disease of more" where individual ambition overtakes team goals, and leadership conflicts. The modern NBA offers protections Portland lacked - salary caps, better medical protocols, and player development infrastructure. But new pressures exist too: social media scrutiny, agent manipulation, and global market opportunities that could fragment the team. The central question remains: Can Oklahoma City learn from Portland's mistakes and build a sustainable dynasty, or will success breed the same individual ambitions that destroyed the Trail Blazers? As Meyer concludes, "The hardest opponent isn't the other team. It's in the mirror.Support the showSupport the Pod or Binge the Entire Season Now! https://www.buzzsprout.com/1269236/support https://youtube.com/@IconicSeasons Connect on Social https://www.instagram.com/ncaaiconicseasons/

The NBA offseason is upon us, but if you blinked, you missed free agency and the trade market drying up like Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard's max contracts. Adam Murray and Andrew Riche, Place To Be Nation's NBA-Team, are back after a quick deal summary episode to deep dive what exactly these teams are trying to accomplish. The dreaded luxury tax apron strikes again as contenders either dove in or backed out of paying the big bill. But first, they talk about last month's draft as Adam tries to talk Andrew off the ledge after the Pelicans pulled one of the most stupefying draft day deals of all-time. The guys also talk about LeBron's realistic options after opting in to his final year of his deal with the Lakers, the Bucks sabotaging the Pacers, draft day surprises, the Knicks hiring Mike Brown, and more. So suit up and take it out in episode 351 with the NBA-Team!

Today's word of the day is ‘apron' as in luxury tax as in salary cap as in penalties as in the NBA as in MLB. What are we talking about!? The Boston Celtics have been blowing it all up… kinda. Jrue Holiday is gone. Kristaps Porzingis is gone. Hundreds of millions have been saved in penalties. (17:40) The NBA Draft is here! The first round is on Wednesday. Second round on Thursday. Cooper Flagg is an easy number one. Then things get interesting! The Brooklyn Nets have the most first round picks ever! (24:30) Aaron Rodgers says he's only there for one year. That's it. Then he will disappear. (34:30) Review: Dean Spanley. (39:30) NPPOD. Everyone needs to watch the Pirates and Brewers game today. Trust me! (43:15) The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting $500 million from the state. Yup, remember public financing was over. Ha! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
