It is our pleasure to give to you this interview of wrestling royalty. David Crockett is the son of Jim Crockett, Sr. who created an entertainment empire in the south, but is most famous for running the "Charlotte" territory in wrestling, better known as Mid-Atlantic Wrestling/Jim Crockett Promotions/NWA/World Championship Wrestling. He came to us to let the world know he'll be at the Virginia Championship Wrestling's Tidings of Destruction on December 2nd to wish his good friend George Pantas well in his retirement after 50 years in wrestling. David shares with us some great stories from both his territory days and his days with Ted Turner's WCW. He shares with us the anxiety surrounding Vince McMahon's aggressive push into the southern territories and television. David doesn't hold back about the business of the past and present. Rich and Tim talk everything from Broadway, to James Brown, to ACC Football, to Ric Flair at the Baltimore Marriott. He even sheds a little more light on WCW's decision to pass on The Rock. Mr. Crockett is the genuine real deal and came to us to share his story and his family's legacy and influence over the athletic theatrical art that we love so much. We are honored to bestow upon him the title of "Friend of the Show."   Support the show: https://ko-fi.com/wrestlingarchives Virginia Championship Wrestling: https://vcwprowrestling.com/tidings-of-destruction-december-2nd-in-norfolk/

Welcome back to another episode of The Lawcast! This time our hosts cover Battleground 2013, a mostly forgettable show with one absolutely unforgettable match. The unforgettable match in question is Cody and Dustin Rhodes teaming for the first time ever to take on The Shield in a match where their jobs are on the line. They're fighting not just for their careers, but also for their family legacy as Dusty Rhodes will also be fired if they lose. This is the storyline that should have launched Cody Rhodes to WWE stardom but instead it launched him to being Stardust.Filling out the rest of the card we've got Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton for the vacant WWE Championship plus CM Punk vs. Ryback. It's not the strongest time for WWE creative which makes the Rhodes/Shield match stand out even more.At the top of the show we discuss: 1) The Tuesday Night War, 2) Reports that CM Punk will NOT be returning to WWE and 3) Has Vince McMahon been frozen out of WWE's creative process?Plus since this show is clearly inspired by Jim Crockett Promotions, we play a game for "What is the Jim Crockett equivalent of this match?"

In part one of two, Kris and David look at Jim Herd's forced resignation from the job, Herd scorching earth in his last meeting, Lex Luger's disappearing act, Frey's steroid policy for WCW and how it differed from the WWF's, who got fired or reassigned and why, what Frey got right, Frey's trust in Dusty Rhodes, Frey AND Dusty(!) going on the record with Mark Madden in the Torch, the many things attributed to Bill Watts that were actually Frey's doing, the infamous "best match" performance bonuses, rebuilding the calamitous live event department, Jim Crockett regaining and losing some power in short order, Lex Luger's transformation into a neon sign, and much, much more. This is a tremendous show, and we hope you all enjoy it!----------It's time for our second and final dive into attorney Kip Allen Frey's brief run as the Executive Vice President of World Championship Wrestling, covering April through the very beginning of June of 1992. Topics include how it should have been obvious to Frey that he was never a permanent pick, Wade Keller's "Torch Talk" interview with Frey, Jim Ross's thoughts on Frey in his own "Torch Talk" and if he knew that Bill Watts was being hired, Lex Luger showing up on WWF TV, Jack Petrik being reassigned to the Cartoon Network, the launch and original format of WCW Saturday Night, WCW's rumored negotiations with Bill Fralic, a review of the wrestlers' Frey-mandated anti-steroid PSAs, Rick Rude arguing with Dr. David Black about steroids, Bill Watts as new WCW boss coming out of nowhere, Frey quitting to be reassigned within TBS, and much, much more. This is another fantastic show, and we hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.Timestamps:0:00:00 January 1992 0:45:05 February 1992 1:37:30 March 1992 2:16:59 April 19923:39:42 May-June 1992To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. One of the taglines for this event was, "Glory Bound." There was nothing glorious about this one as Dusty Rhodes tries to out-shine the main event cage match by going for the United States Title in a cage right before it. Ron Garvin was also the defending World Champion, and he couldn't draw flies if he was rolled in cow crap. The Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Midnight Express match should have been great, but it was put on a stupid scaffold. Terry Taylor had to do some heavy lifting in the TV Title match against Nikita Koloff. "Dr. Death" Steve Williams and Barry Windham even stunk up the joint with a fairly boring encounter for the UWF World Title. The Road Warriors, in their kayfabe hometown, also get screwed by an infamous Dusty Finish that pretty much kills Chicago for JCP forever. Two other "major" things happened on this show, as Bill Watts' UWF was recently bought out by Jim Crockett and they combined as The Wrestling Network (TWN) and had multiple Title Unification matches on this show. Also, this was the first year that the WWF ran Survivor Series and put it on free TV to go against Starrcade on pay-per-view. Because of that, starting in 1988, Starrcade was moved to December. In the news, we cover WCCW and AWA trying to hang on by the thinnest of threads, the NWA's business tanking, multiple hirings, firings, and quittings, and Uncle Dave Meltzer giving a hilarious bad take on Ron Simmons, plus much more!ALL PODCAST, SOCIAL MEDIA, & MERCHANDISE LINKS: linktr.ee/MainEventMarksCHECK OUT OUR MERCHANDISE: MainEventMarks.redbubble.com & bonfire.com/store/maineventmarksGET FUELED WITH SHOCKED ENERGY: https://shockedenergy.com/collections/all?sca_ref=1814354.mOXH7RrwKh&sca_source=MainEventMarks (promo code: MainEvent for 10% off)KEEP YOUR COFFEE GIMMICK FREE AND FRESH ROASTED TO ORDER WITH COFFEE BRAND COFFEE: https://coffeebrandcoffee.com/?ref=WC7vE0tK (promo code: MAINEVENT for 5% off)GET AWESOME SPORTS T-SHIRTS: intheclutch.com/MAINEVENT (use code "MAINEVENT" for 10% off)ORDER FROM SWIFT LIFESTYLES: SwiftLifestyles.com, use PROMO CODE: MainEventMarks at checkout for 15% offLISTEN EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 9PM EST: tikilive.com/channel/BURNS

In the news, we cover WCCW and AWA trying to hang on by the thinnest of threads, the NWA's business tanking, multiple hirings, firings, and quittings, and Uncle Dave Meltzer giving a hilarious bad take on Ron Simmons, plus much more!ALL PODCAST, SOCIAL MEDIA, & MERCHANDISE LINKS: linktr.ee/MainEventMarksCHECK OUT OUR MERCHANDISE: MainEventMarks.redbubble.com & bonfire.com/store/maineventmarksGET FUELED WITH SHOCKED ENERGY: https://shockedenergy.com/collections/all?sca_ref=1814354.mOXH7RrwKh&sca_source=MainEventMarks (promo code: MainEvent for 10% off)KEEP YOUR COFFEE GIMMICK FREE AND FRESH ROASTED TO ORDER WITH COFFEE BRAND COFFEE: https://coffeebrandcoffee.com/?ref=WC7vE0tK (promo code: MAINEVENT for 5% off)GET AWESOME SPORTS T-SHIRTS: intheclutch.com/MAINEVENT (use code "MAINEVENT" for 10% off)ORDER FROM SWIFT LIFESTYLES: SwiftLifestyles.com, use PROMO CODE: MainEventMarks at checkout for 15% offLISTEN EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 9PM EST: tikilive.com/channel/BURNS Learn more about your ad choices. It's crazy to think about Ric Flair being "the young, up-and-coming, next big thing" in wrestling, but in 1983, he was! This show was possibly the only time Jim Crockett beat Vince McMahon as he got a big, annual, tent-pole event to closed circuit before the WWF did with WrestleMania. A lot of the matches on this show were throw-aways, but we've got some big match-ups as well. Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine battle it out in a Dog Collar match, which co-host Greg deems "the REAL most dangerous match in wrestling," the Briscos (Jack & Jerry) defend their Tag Titles against Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood, and of course, Harley Race defends the NWA World Heavyweight Title against Ric Flair in the steel cage main event match. Also, in the news, we talk about Vince McMahon trying to steal Harley away before this big show, WCCW running a Thanksgiving Star Wars event the same day as Starrcade, and much more!ALL PODCAST, SOCIAL MEDIA, & MERCHANDISE LINKS: linktr.ee/MainEventMarksCHECK OUT OUR MERCHANDISE: MainEventMarks.redbubble.com & bonfire.com/store/maineventmarksGET FUELED WITH SHOCKED ENERGY: https://shockedenergy.com/collections/all?sca_ref=1814354.mOXH7RrwKh&sca_source=MainEventMarks (promo code: MainEvent for 10% off)KEEP YOUR COFFEE GIMMICK FREE AND FRESH ROASTED TO ORDER WITH COFFEE BRAND COFFEE: https://coffeebrandcoffee.com/?ref=WC7vE0tK (promo code: MAINEVENT for 5% off)GET AWESOME SPORTS T-SHIRTS: intheclutch.com/MAINEVENT (use code "MAINEVENT" for 10% off)ORDER FROM SWIFT LIFESTYLES: SwiftLifestyles.com, use PROMO CODE: MainEventMarks at checkout for 15% offLISTEN EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 9PM EST: tikilive.com/channel/BURNS

In this week's Interview Classic episode from five years ago (10-20-2017), PWTorch editor Wade Keller presents part two of his new interview with Jim Ross followed by a vintage interview from 25 years ago this weekend with Road Warrior Hawk. In the hour-long Ross interview, he discusses how fans have changed over the decades and if that affects his approach to announcing, key historical turning points including what if Bill Watts and not Jim Crockett was Vince McMahon's early primary competitors, could a more sports-like presentation of pro wrestling have taken over the country instead of “sports entertainment” promoted by Vince, the challenge of getting over a babyface in 2017, and more.In the vintage Hawk interview from John Arezzi's “Pro Wrestling Spotlight” radio show in October 1992, Hawk talks about his decision to leave the WWF, compares working for Jim Crockett vs. Vince McMahon, the possibility of a union forming for wrestlers, and more.

Also, Wahoo McDaniel is the new National Heavyweight Champion with a win over Tully Blanchard at the Forum in Los Angeles, the Kansas Jayhawks confront Jim Cornette and Big Bubba, Ric Flair and Mike Jackson have a great TV match and the end of the show sees the Four Horsemen confront Dick Murdoch only to have Dusty Rhodes and Magnum TA come to the ring to help him in a pretty good ending. Fall is almost here in 1986 and with it comes excitement and heartbreak, this is JCP in the 80's! On this very famous episode, the James Gang rides into the studios of TBS and causes quite a stir. Namely: Jim Cornette, who goes on to hijack the show. Also, we will hear from Baby Doll for the first time since she was attacked and see not only the James Gang take on the Midnight Express, but will also see the World Champion Ric Flair in action. Also, two big announcements on this program about what is coming to JCP this summer, one made by Mr. Jim Crockett at the start of the program and one made by a stumbling, bumbling Tony Schiavone at the end.
