Citações e trechos retirados do livro “The Paramount Importance of Self Attention”. Sri Sadhu Om ou Sri Sadhu Om Swamigal (1922 - 1985), foi poeta, autor e discípulo direto de Ramana Maharshi. Sadhu Om nasceu no distrito de Thanjavur em Tamil Nadu, Índia. Ele naturalmente foi dotado de uma mente que sempre buscou o Divino, e em 1943 descobriu o livro “Suddhananda Bharati Sri Ramana Vijayam”, uma biografia Tamil de Ramana Maharshi. Dois anos depois, ele encontrou Ramana pela primeira vez. Assim ele descreveu sua chegada: “Quando entrei no corredor, queria ver Bhagavan, mas só vi um sofá e ninguém sentado nele. Fiquei surpreso ao ver, no entanto, que todo mundo estava fazendo namaskarams (curvar-se perante um mestre) em direção ao sofá. Quando eu estava hesitando em fazer namaskarams, comecei a notar o contorno vago de uma figura humana sentada no sofá. Imediatamente me prostrei. Quando me levantei, vi aquela figura lentamente se solidificando e se tornando clara. Só então pude reconhecê-lo como Sri Bhagavan”. A associação de Sri Sadhu Om com Ramana Maharshi durou quatro anos, de julho de 1946 até a morte de Ramana em abril de 1950. Sadhu Om praticou incansavelmente a Auto-Inquirição em uma casa remota (Sri Arunachala Ramana Nilayam) no interior de Thiruvannamalai, por 30 anos, e anotou escrupulosamente as dificuldades enfrentadas por ele em sua prática, e também os métodos pelos quais ele as superou. Outros discípulos diretos de Ramana o consideravam uma autoridade nos ensinamentos de Ramana, e seu livro sobre a Auto-indagação é muitas vezes considerado o livro-texto definitivo sobre essa prática. Sri Muruganar, muitas vezes considerado o principal discípulo de Ramana, designou Sri Sadhu Om como seu executor literário porque, de acordo com David Godman: “Ele era a única pessoa que entendia completamente suas obras”. “Todos os pensamentos contém um elemento do passado ou do futuro neles. Bijan Ebrahimi lived on the ground floor in a four-story block of flats located on Capgrave Crescent in Bristol. Bijan, a shy man and an Iranian immigrant, suffered from health problems that left him disabled. He had a close bond with his family and took joy in tending to his garden in a communal area that overlooked the surrounding flats. Despite being quiet, he didn't go unnoticed. He was verbally abused by some of his neighbours, as he was seen as being “different” and viewed as an easy target by his tormentors. His pleas to the local authorities for help were met with complacency, and Bijan was dismissed as being a pest and annoyance. Parents of young children have an especially fraught relationship with their smartphones. On the one hand, these devices are indispensable tools for getting things done and staying connected to the adult world while in the midst of childcare. On the other hand, the culture is constantly telling parents, and particularly mothers, that they’re too distracted by these devices, that smartphones are stealing precious attention away from our kids. But the idea that parents should be focusing so much attention on their kids is itself a modern invention. In fact, our current understanding of parenthood and childhood is, in a very real way, the product of technology.
