The last stretch of September came in hot: prestige films chasing awards, long‑dormant comedies shaking off the dust, and a gaming news cycle that sparked real debate about value, platforms, and where we'll actually play next. We open with a box office pulse check that puts One Battle After Another's “soft” $22M in proper context—R rating, three‑hour runtime, and premium formats—while Demon Slayer's legs and a G‑rated Gabby's Dollhouse surprise remind us that targeted audiences still pack theaters. Nostalgia gets traction with Spaceballs 2's table read image (yes, that's Rick Moranis) even as Desert Warrior's first reactions praise the vistas but flag the sprawl. From there we shift to big‑ticket timelines: Beyond the Spider‑Verse slides forward a week to Father's Day 2027, and Tom Holland reassures fans he's on the mend after a set injury pauses Brand New Day production. Highlander spikes the hype with WWE's Drew McIntyre joining Henry Cavill, underlining the new era of wrestlers crossing over with presence and chops. Then the gamer brain kicks in: reports of Costco stepping away from Xbox consoles and fresh U.S. price hikes collide with the sticker shock of the ROG/Xbox Ally handhelds at $600 and $1,000. We break down why pure portability isn't enough without a killer value story when Steam Decks and budget PCs sit right there.Sony's State of Play lands like a steady drumbeat. A smart Deus Ex remaster, a Halloween title that turns Michael Myers' “now you see me” into a stealth mechanic, Housemarque's Saros channeling Returnal's bullet ballet, and a sharper look at Nioh 3. And then Wolverine: fast, ferocious, cinematic—Insomniac's signature feel with a fall 2026 window to aim at. On the culture wave, Seth Rogen helps bring the Muppets back for a 2026 special, Robot Chicken gets a full‑series set, and Wale moves into producing with Silk, a DC crime saga set during the city's early‑90s “murder capital” peak. Scrubs assembles for a table read, Jimmy Kimmel returns after station group pushback fades under audience pressure, and Apple TV+ postpones The Savant to recalibrate a sensitive, timely story. It's a packed ride with clear through lines: timing matters, pricing has to make sense, and revivals only work when the tone is right. Come for the Wolverine gameplay breakdown, stay for the candid takes on handheld value, Spider‑Verse patience, and why some delays are actually a sign of respect for the audience. If you enjoy this kind of fast, thoughtful roundup, hit follow, share with a friend, and drop a review telling us what reveal or move surprised you most.Music Produced by BlackOutBeatz414: https://www.youtube.com/@BlackOutBeatz414Facebook: www.facebook.com/GeekVisionz/Twitch: www.twitch.tv/geekvizentYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@GeekvisionzEnt.
Today on thbre 5: Sony announced a remaster of classic PC game Deus Ex in their latest State Of Play event. I didn't pay much attention to it since I already have a wonderfully modded version of it on PC, but then I started seeing a lot of anger around it online. I looked into it, and while I don't think it;s as universally bas as others do, it did make a fatal mistake by getting what I would consider the most important part of the visuals completely wrong.

The "where are the games?!" crowd is having a bad week, because PlayStation's most recent State of Play showed that plenty is indeed incoming for your PS5. For starters, Insomniac's long-dormant Wolverine has reemerged. Revealed four years ago and having clearly gone through some tribulations behind-the-scenes, Wolverine is slated for PlayStation 5 next fall, and it looks violent and grisly in all the right ways. Coming sooner from first party, however, is Housemarque's Returnal sequel Saros, launching in March of '26. It looks awesome, and we're to get back to shootin'. But as if these two games didn't give us enough to talk about, there's more: Microsoft Flight Simulator is the next Xbox-aligned game PS5-bound (with Forza Horizon 6 somewhere behind it), the original Deus Ex is getting the remaster treatment, a God of War DualSense has been revealed in recognition of the franchise's 20th anniversary, Kojima both revealed a Physint poster and showed off his new horror title OD, and much more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's going on with the PS5 Pro's many technical issues? Will NetEase's F2P game Ananta be as insane as it seems? Why do we have such a problem with the premise of licensed games? Is Boar's Head's fine deli meat becoming too expensive for the average consumer? On this week's episode, Chris and Riley are joined by Aftermath contributor Isaiah. First, Chris can't resist talking more Silksong, and then he tells us a bit about Silent Hill f. Then we move on to Sony's State of Play presentation this week: Does Insomniac's Wolverine need all that blood? Do we need a Deus Ex remaster when it basically makes a game from 2000 look like a game from 2004? Also, Chris is really into those speakers. After that, we talk about the continued fallout from Charlie Kirk's assassination, with some game devs losing their jobs over their comments about it, though not as many as in other fields. We also talk about what's known about the shooter at a Dallas ICE facility this week, and how it feels like meme culture has taken on the role that video games once played in being blamed for violence. We also discuss Microsoft no longer letting the Israeli military use its tech for surveillance of Palestinians, on the back of protest movements and reporting by The Guardian; it's not enough, but it's a start.Chris then praises his new AirPods before we get to this week's mailbag, where we give horror anime recommendations and discuss our favorite bridges.Credits- Hosts: Chris Person, Riley MacLeod, & Isaiah Colbert- Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude- Subscribe to Aftermath!About The ShowAftermath Hours is the flagship podcast of Aftermath, a worker-owned, subscription-based website covering video games, the internet, and everything that comes after from journalists who previously worked at Kotaku, Vice, and The Washington Post. Journalist Nayeema Raza—host of Smart Girl Dumb Questions—joins Eric Newcomer to preview Deus Ex Medicina, their AI–health–longevity summit happening Tuesday, Sept 9 (San Francisco). Jonathan Jacques-Belletête is a French-Canadian creative director and artist whose work has helped shape some of the most stylish and thought-provoking contemporary video games. After graduating from Dawson College in Montreal, he worked as a commercial illustrator before joining Ubisoft as an artist on the Far Cry, Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed series. In 2007 he joined Eidos Montreal, where he helped reimagine the Deus Ex universe with the games Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, blending cyberpunk aesthetics with deeply human themes. Now, as creative director of Hell is Us, he's led one of the most intriguing and mysterious projects in development—a game that promises to challenge how we think about conflict and identity. This week on The Free Cheese, we immerse ourselves in the simulation. After spending the summer in Deus Ex, we both finally get it when people are really into these games. After things have clicked into place, we share stories about how we each dealt with different areas in the game, how we built our characters, and some of the weird traps we were able to set. Then, we close out by ranking it on The List.

Earlier this year, Chinese publisher Tencent revealed a new project so shameless that it belies belief. It's called Light of Motiram, and it's no exaggeration to say that it's a pound-for-pound carbon copy of PlayStation's vaunted Horizon franchise. It crossed the line to such an extent that Sony is suing Tencent over it, packing fascinating evidence that this title was likely intended to be Horizon all along. Is Tencent dead-to-rights? Other news this week includes likely massive overreaction to PlayStation's hiring of a cross-platform manager, updates on Amazon's God of War TV project, Xbox's dominance of PS5 sales chart with rumors of more to come, Warner Bros. dipping its toes back in the games-as-a-service space, fresh PS+ offerings, and more. To round things out, we then go to listener inquiries, as always. Is the original Metal Gear Solid overrated? What's happening with Insomniac's Wolverine project? This week on The Free Cheese, how did you do it? We begin our adventure with Deus Ex and quickly realize how much this game has awaiting for us. We also learn how varied and nuanced our individual campaigns are going to shake out. We discuss the opening areas of the game and the interactions with the world that we've had so far, like triggering opponents mistakenly with a flashlight and preemptively completing objectives.

Since we published our previous episode, Sony not only announced it was having a State of Play event, but that event has already happened. Thus, we have much to discuss throughout this lengthy episode, an unexpected surprise for the PlayStation faithful. In short, the most recent State of Play was a great showcase of nearly 30 upcoming PlayStation 5 games, with some PS4 and PSVR2 mixed in there, too. And -- for those that care -- more than a half-dozen of the games are PS5 console exclusive, nipping that entire argument in the bud. In the realm of Sony second party, we've learned about a Marvel-themed fighting game from Arc System Works called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, while Tecmo Koei's Team Ninja is hard at work on Nioh 3. Elsewhere, we were given the first glimpse at IO Interactive's long-in-development James Bond game called First Light, a brand-new Lumines offering from the creators of Tetris Effect, the return of Capcom's seemingly-beleaguered Pragmata, something fresh from Grasshopper Manufacture called Romeo Is A Dead Man, a late-September release date for Silent Hill F, our first look at the sequel to Iga's Bloodstained, and -- yes indeed! -- confirmation of Final Fantasy Tactics coming to PlayStation in just a few months in the form of The Ivalice Chronicles. "No games?" Maybe if you don't like or play video games, perhaps. Other news this week includes our first look at Witcher 4 via a controversial UE5 tech demo, rumors of a native PS5 port for Red Dead Redemption 2, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Should 'game length' be considered a spoiler? How do we feel about pinball video games? Do we ever mess with the PSN's 'activity cards' while playing? In the late 90s, John Romero convinced Warren Spector to join his studio in order to make the game of his dreams. This game was something Spector had been thinking about since 1993. It had a couple of names over the years – Troubleshooter being one, and Shooter: Majestic Revelations being another – but one thing remained the same: it was ambitious. We're going back to 2000 to take a look at a first-person shooter, that is also a stealth game, that is also an RPG – so I guess we can call this one an immersive sim. We're talking Deus ExOn this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about Ion Storm's origins, Daikatana, and how one developer was going to make you his bitch. We also look at how that Dallas attitude affected Austin, the difficulty in marketing a game that's quite different to everything else out there, how being a pacifist is okay actually, and how single player games are not dead. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: the Revision mod; stealth systems that are reliable, but working underneath, meaning you have to mostly go on vibes; being seen is just part of your story rather than failure; THE QUICK SAVE; looking at every possible route to sneakily get around the world; the glorious lockpicking waggle; the invisibility cloak; weak small arms for those that want to kill quietly; the beast riot prod and the even beaster lightsaber Dragon's Tooth sword; permanent a/b choices that really make you think about your build; draining bioenergy; remembering to turn off your augmentations; TORCH EYES; the GEP gun, the LAM, and all of this game's wonderfully silly explosive weapons; managing the Resident Evil style inventory; boss encounters that don't betray the game; kill phrases; your first encounter with the NSF on Liberty Island; buying drinks in Hong Kong's Lucky Money club; conspiracy theories now vs conspiracy theories then; predictions that have come to pass (and others that have not); changing the course of its plot and how characters react to your actions and decisions in ways that never stop being brilliant; and that absolute stone cold classic of a theme song. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Deus Ex is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Ghost of Tsushima on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

In 2005, filmmaker Christopher Nolan was about to become mainstream with the first movie in his superhero trilogy. Meanwhile, a group of developers in Derby were working on a video game tie-in for said movie that wouldn't turn out to be quite as popular. We're taking a look at an action adventure game that was neither a precursor to a game based on The Dark Knight, nor The Dark Knight Returns. We're talking Batman Begins. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about trailers that feature Batman smiling, Trailer Voice Man, and Phoenix International. We also look at how important it was for this to be an interactive version of the movie in almost every way, as well as a cavalcade of celebs: a disinterested Morgan Freeman, a bloodthirsty Cillian Murphy, anbemused Michael Caine, and a Christian Bale that thinks all this video game stuff is a complete waste of time. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: the first glimpses of many things that would become staples in the Arkham games; instilling fear in your enemies by interacting with very specific parts of the environment; goons dropping their guns when they're scared; the optic cable from Splinter Cell; an exceptionally violent inverted takedown; familiar punching and kicking, as performed by a more acrobatic, yet less fluid Batman; the weird context-sensitive special move thing; NO BATARANG BUSINESS; climbing things with 70% arm and 30% leg; bonus Game Boy Advance opinions; a lack of yellow paint; training in the Himalayas; driving the tumbler around Gotham like it's a Burnout game; dingy rooms illuminated by beams of light coming through blinds; restrictions vs limitations; being rewarded(?) with clips from the film in between levels; odd differences in the narrative; Gary Oldman's absence; and a lockpicking minigame that's the same every single time. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Batman Begins is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Deus Ex on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
Following the delay of Fable, it was a coin toss on who would get the nod to follow up Xbox's 2025 summer showcase with a Developer Direct of their own. Now, we have the answer. No, it's not Gears Of War: E-Day and no it's not Halo. It's The Outer Worlds 2! Combined with this reveal, IGN posted over 10 minutes of Outer Worlds 2 gameplay! While it pops the bubble ahead of its full inflation, the Dukes were excited to lay eyes on the game following its December reveal. What has changed? What has improved? Also, what else will we see at this summer's showcase? We're full of guesses, so let's get to speculating! When the stakes couldn't be higher for the crew of the Cerritos, Relga shows up and starts serving Star Trek V energy. But when the nearby Schrödinger field creates quantum fuckery on both sides, Malor's irrigation-based solution turns the angry red hole into a beautiful gateway. Does Relga's lack of boob window convey something specific about her character? Which words are we no longer comfortable using? What was probably on the whiteboard for this entire series? It's the episode that also wants to light a mattress on fire.Support the production of Greatest TrekGet a thing at podshop.biz!Sign up for our mailing list!Greatest Trek is produced by Wynde PriddySocial media is managed by Rob Adler and Bill TilleyMusic by Adam RaguseaFriends of DeSoto for: Labor | Democracy | JusticeDiscuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestTrek and find us on social media:YouTube | Facebook | X | Instagram | TikTok | Mastodon | Bluesky | ThreadsAnd check out these online communities run by FODs: Reddit | USS Hood Discord | Facebook group | Wikia | FriendsOfDeSoto.social
