One of my TV guilty pleasures to watch is Master Chef and today I'm thrilled to meet one of this years' finalists – Sam Kaeokon.Sam has lived in Swindon for just over 10 years, and coming from Thailand, unsurprisingly he loves to cook Thai food! He talks about how he learnt to cook after watching his grandma in the kitchen prepare Thai cuisine. After moving to the UK, he found that although there was some Thai food available, it wasn't the particular type that he enjoyed, so he taught himself to cook, by watching YouTube, reading cook books, looking online – any and every way he could to spend time cooking. As well as loving cooking, Sam also shares what it is that he loves about living in Swindon – which includes, as much as the town itself, the places that are around the area too.Master Chef is a huge TV hit, and Sam explains what it was like to be involved in the competition – from the point where he decided to apply to the final weeks. He talks about how nerve-racking it is when you first arrive, as you don't know anyone, and you meet the judges, the camera crews and everyone who works behind the scenes. Plus you also have to learn how to use the equipment too. He was so nervous and filled with so many different emotions, he didn't even remember his interview. However, once he got cooking things were fun.The hardest part for Sam was the time-lag between filming and the airing for the programme, and having to remain quiet about the outcome! Sam also talks about how being on the show has made him reassess his life – although he still wants to work in care – probably alongside cooking too. A very modest man, Sam is proud of what he has achieved, and underlines that it's not about winning but the journey. He loves caring for people, and he also puts care into cooking! To contact Sam:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samkaeokon/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573564905057Tiktok: tiktok.com/@sammikaeokonIf you would like to contact me, you can visit my www.Scottmedia.uk or join my free Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/prtribe

Christian street preacher Shaun O'Sullivan has been cleared by a jury at Swindon Crown Court after a trial that raised serious questions about freedom of speech and the policing of so-called “hate claims.” Mr O'Sullivan, 36, who is being supported by lawyers at the Christian Legal Centre, faced charges of religiously aggravated intentional harassment under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, after being accused of saying “We love the Jews” , Jew haters,” and “Palestine lovers,” at a group of Muslims in Swindon town centre on 15 September 2024. Here he speaks to Premier radio about his case with the Christian Legal Centre's Michael Phillips.

Town had to come through two down to rescue a point at high flying Swindon on Saturday but by doing so they showed real resilience and the panel begin by discussing whether or not the positive reaction of the players in the first half could potentially be looked back upon as a pivotal moment in the season come May. The guys then go on to discuss our defensive injury concerns and the affect that could be having on an over reliance of key players, the reasoning behind the signing and subsequent performance of emergency loan keeper Richard O'Donnell and the underrated importance and impact of Darragh Burns on the dynamic of the side. In Part Two the guys speculate as to which of the players out of contract next summer are the most important to tie down on longer deals and then turn their attention to the visit of Tranmere next Thursday, a more unusual date and KO time courtesy of the Sky Sports cameras rolling back into town…+++Hosted and produced by Chris Mills with guests Paul Savage and George Mann.Subscribe to our mailing list for weekly bonus content - https://mailchi.mp/41dfa5ea31ac/view-from-the-findus Order our first ever VFTF merchandise, a unisex t-shirt, via our website - https://viewfromthefindus.wordpress.comFollow us on X or Instagram; the handle for both is @VFTFindus or get in touch with the show via email - viewfromthefindus@gmail.com Intro / Outro music - "Weakness" by The Last Of The Wonder Kids - Listen on Spotify Artwork - Alex Chilvers - https://alexchilvers.co.uk or @alexjchilversGraphics - Liam McLennanPhotography - Jon Corken+++ Hosted on Acast. I've known today's guest for many years, and the first thing I asked Gareth Davis to talk about was his memory of first meeting the Scott family.Gareth first met my son David when he was at Westlea Primary School in Swindon. David was about five or six when he joined Gareth's martial arts class and Gareth talks about how martial arts can help people/children to learn and move at their own pace. Plus the skills they learn can be transferred into other aspects of their lives, giving them confidence. He shares his story of how he became a black belt at the age of eight after finding a passion for the discipline. He talks about how hard he trained and how he knew it was what he wanted to do from an early age – even when talking to the schools' careers teacher when he was older. He left school with all A and B grades at GCSE level, but didn't want to go on to do more schooling. Although his parents did persuade him – for all of six weeks. After working as a teacher, he set up his own business when he was 20, when he took over his old instructor's business when the latter moved to the US. We talk about how Gareth managed to build up good relationships with local Swindon schools, which grew particularly when opportunities for private providers to run afterschool clubs and activities came along and how he used PR in his business.Gareth shares three fantastic top tips for starting a business which in brief are:having a passion for what you do; understanding what you need to make the business grow do right by people. Then after 15 years of doing the thing that was his passion, Gareth made a huge change to his life and moved to the US. He shares the fascinating and brave story of how he moved to the US to be with his girlfriend/ now wife just as Covid was taking over the world. He had to make a quick decision, otherwise they wouldn't have seen each other for two years! Since living in Las Vegas, he has re-trained to work in residential real estate. If you want to know more about how that move went and how things are going, you need to listen to the podcast – where you'll hear the 5 things about Las Vegas that are better than the UK, and the things that Gareth misses about the UK!To contact Gareth:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_garethdavis_/If you would like to contact me, you can visit my www.Scottmedia.uk or join my free Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/prtribe

"Must Listen for Everyone Working in or On Individual Change projects or Campaigns" Is blaming “individual willpower” one of the industry's most successful PR tactics. Why do our environments make the healthy choice so hard? And who profits when they do? In this powerful episode of the Behaviour Change Marketing Bootcamp Podcast, Ruth Dale sits down with Louis Bird, Principal in Public Health and national obstacle-course racer, to unpack the commercial determinants of health and what they mean for the everyday choices we think we're making freely. Louis explains how industries like food, alcohol, tobacco, and fossil fuels shape our behaviour, our environments, and ultimately our health; often without us realising. And what you can do it about it at Local Authority level. This conversation shines a light on how power, profit and public health collide. But all is not lost. Louis shares his work in Swindon with tips on what you can do too. If you work in public health, health marketing, or behavioural science, this episode will change how you see your town, your life and the choices you make. A van selling coffee and sandwiches from an office car park doesn't sound like anything special, but there's one in Swindon helping to keep young offenders out of custody. It's part of an approach being deployed across the country trying to prevent young people from reoffending by encouraging a shift in their identity. The idea is to get to know the young offender, figure out what makes them tick. And then, instead of locking them up, find ways of getting them involved in whatever interests them. Selling tea and coffee from the burger van is where those with a culinary eye can learn new skills and start to feel valued for being part of legitimate endeavours. Similar interventions include social enterprises working in bicycle maintenance, hair and beauty and podcasting. As the adult prison population has soared in England and Wales, the number of under-18s behind bars has dropped markedly in the past 20 years, from around 3000 to 400. File on 4 Investigates spends time with the Youth Justice Service in Swindon to find out how it rehabilitates young offenders in the local community, and asks if the success of the youth system could hold lessons to address chronic overcrowding problems in adult prisons. Chris Marston, who presents shows on National Prison Radio and spent 10 months in prison discovers that what's going on in Swindon is very different from his own experiences of the adult criminal justice system.Reporter: Chris Marston Producer: Beth McLeod Technical Producer: Craig Boardman Production Co-ordinator: Tim Fernley Editor: Nick HollandMain Image: Presenter Chris Marston in front of the Solid Ground coffee van in Swindon.

In episode 305 of The Just Checking In Podcast we checked in with Melanie Williams. Mel is the Founder of 'Mel Williams Coaching'. She also works as an Mental Health First Aid Instructor for MHFA England, and as an Associate Tutor for Suicide First Aid. In this episode we discuss her varied career, from working at Nationwide Building Society, setting up her first business 'Reinspire by Mel' during the Covid-19 pandemic, taking up voluntary redundancy from Nationwide and setting up Mel Williams Coaching and becoming self-employed. From there, she has developed her own eight-step process for coaching people and attached herself to a new mental health charity based in Swindon called The Kelly Foundation as a ‘Coach Support Worker'. Through that role, she helped clients with everything from addiction issues to PIP assessments and even helping a woman overcome agoraphobia. Because of that work, the charity offered to help her train to become a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, which she has done for a year and a half at time of recording. She took that training one step further and became trained as a Suicide First Aid tutor in March 2025, which she can now deliver in the UK and internationally. For Mel's mental health journey, we centre the discussion around her experience of motherhood, specifically the birth of two of her children. The first, Ryan was tragically stillborn and almost cost Mel her life. We discuss this experience and the trauma of it, the important role Mel's husband played in it throughout, the decision process behind them trying again for a child and the birth of her daughter in 2013 despite the high-risk history would repeat itself. We then talk about her mental recovery from Ryan's birth and death and Mel's experience of bereavement counselling to process it. She was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or a Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) which we prefer to describe it as, which came from the trauma of her fear of dying. We finish by discussing the way Mel and her husband processed Ryan's death, as they dealt with it very differently and how they moved forward together as a couple. As always, #itsokaytovent You can follow Mel on social media below: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mel-williams-coaching-and-training-81258612b/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/melwilliamscoaching/ Support Us: Patreon: www.patreon.com/venthelpuk PayPal: paypal.me/freddiec1994?country.x=GB&locale.x=en_GB Merchandise: www.redbubble.com/people/VentUK/shop Music: @patawawa - Strange: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d70wfeJSEvk TRIGGER WARNING: this podcast contains a deep discussion about grief and loss, which some listeners may find extremely upsetting or distressing, so please listen with caution.

Welcome to the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, today, we've got something a little bit different for you. To celebrate our upcoming recruitment and careers conference coming up on Thursday 20th November, we've decided to hand the mic over to our guest host Rory White in this special series of episodes called 'It Started On The Street'. Rory will be chatting to some brilliant leaders in the charity sector and beyond about their journeys since they started their careers as dialogue fundraisers. "Charlotte Forest began her fundraising career with Push, a well-known agency at the very start of face-to-face fundraising in the UK. After that, she moved to Gift, where she built a long and varied career — starting out as a fundraiser, then stepping up to team leader, and eventually managing multiple regions across the country. This gave her an incredible breadth of experience before she transitioned into the charity sector when Gift closed. Today, she's Director of Income Generation at a hospice in Swindon. In our conversation, Charlotte shares how the resilience and skills she developed on the street shaped her career, and how those lessons continue to influence her work today. It's a really insightful and enjoyable discussion — I think you'll get a lot from it." You can learn more about our upcoming Fundraising Recruitment and Careers Conference happening on Thursday 20th November here If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to hit follow and enable notifications so you'll get notified to be first to hear of future podcast episodes. Charlie Austin is back with us this time in person, after his stint down under, where he faced off against legends like Nani and dealt with the perils of Aussie wildlife, from swooping magpies to snakes in the garden. Starting out while working as a builder playing for Poole town he got a move to Swindon where he quickly formed a great partnership with Billy Paynter and isn't upset at all that Billy is known as the king. Meanwhile off the pitch there were naked streaks at Cheltenham & burglary pranks. Quickly climbing up the leagues Austin went from builder to Premier League in the space of 6 years, while along the way he worked under the likes of Harry Redknapp, Sean Dyche & Eddie Howe. At Southampton Austin had great moments playing in Europe including an infamous standoff with Dusan Tadic but most importantly he provided one of the greatest interviews the Premier League has ever seen. In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to SLART (@SLART.ME) SLART — a figurative expressionist and proud outsider artist based in Swindon, UK. He dropped out of his A-level art class after his teacher told him he couldn't draw large scale. It wasn't until his late 30s that he picked up pen and ink again, prompted by a blog post that posed three questions about childhood pastimes. His answers were all “drawing and video games”—he chose drawing. Many life experiences fuel his art, including his adoption, chronic illness, two kidney transplants, the deaths of family members, everyday life, and a fascination with people and their stories — as an observer of others, shaped by chronic shyness and a deep feeling of being an outsider. Now he mainly paints large canvases using oils and acrylics, exploring themes of identity, memory, nostalgia and mortality, but often injects a humorous, self-deprecating element to his work. He writes about his art practice every Saturday on Substack (Substack www.creamofthecropbyslart.com) Upcoming solo show 6-18th September www.memementovivere.art Exhibition Details:MEMENTO VIVERE (Remember to Live) - Art Exhibition by SLARTThe Crypt Gallery, St Pancras Church, Euston Road, London, NW1 2BA7th September – 18th September 2025Free Entry Opening Night Reception: Saturday, 6th September 2025, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Invite only) In partnership with Beata Maria Rzepecka from Gabriel Fine Arts, invites the public to "MEMENTO VIVERE" (Remember to Live) "MEMENTO VIVERE" serves as a poignant reminder to embrace the beauty and fragility of existence. The works reflect a deeply personal journey of introspection while touching upon the universal human condition."People shy away from death," says SLART, whose work often combines memento mori and spiritual themes with pop culture influences. “This exhibition comes from facing my own health struggles and thinking a lot about life and death. But it's not all heavy — it's actually about hope and reflection. It's a reminder to wake up, notice the little things, and really live — with no regrets. Even when life feels messy, there's still beauty and meaning to be found."The exhibition aims to challenge viewers to reflect on their own lives, mortality, and choices, creating an appreciation for the fleeting nature of time. Using raw expression, SLART's art navigates complex emotions, testifying to human resilience and the drive to live fully during our finite lives. Interview with James Nagle, Reboot of Compute's Gazette Magazine Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FloppyDays Sponsors: 8-Bit Classics Arcade Shopper FutureVision Research Hello, and welcome to episode 151 of the Floppy Days Podcast for May, 2025. My name is Randy Kindig and I'm the host for this ode to computers that only survive in our memories and our collections. This month, I'm continuing to step aside from the ongoing series of episodes about the HP 97/67 programmable calculators to bring you a timely interview that basically constitutes current news. I don't often do this, but this news was so exciting to me that I wanted to bring this to all my listeners as soon as possible. The interviewee is James Nagle and the topic is the sudden and welcome news that James is planning to revive the iconic Compute! magazine under the equally-iconic name Compute's Gazette. I hope you'll stick around to hear about James' plans and are as excited as I am to find out where this goes. For upcoming shows, we do have one more episode in the series on the HP97 with HP calculator historian Wlodek Mier-Jedrzejowicz (“Vwahdek Meer-Yeng SHAY of itch”). I will air that episode very soon.
