John 3:1-16 3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Recently someone sent me an email with some “Christian one-liners” (Thanks Eileen!) Perhaps you've seen some of them. They usually highlight comical aspects of the faith or funny things that kids say. One of them in particular grabbed my attention. It was funny, but also provided a reason to pause and reflect on how we … Continue reading A Christian one-liner that makes you think

Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 2:1-7 “Now then, be strong and brave, for Saul your master is dead, and the people of Judah have anointed me king. . . .” 2 Samuel 2:7 Israel is at a precarious moment in their history. They have enemies on all sides. Their first king has just died. They face an internal struggle. Will they descend into chaos or become the nation God has called them to be, a light to the other nations? At this crucial moment, David steps up. He prayerfully pursues God’s leading and welcomes the anointing of the people as their king. Remember, God had chosen him earlier, telling Samuel to anoint him (1 Samuel 16). So now David’s kingship becomes a reality, fulfilling that earlier promise. And David shows graciousness to those who have been loyal to Saul. Through David, God is going to unite a troubled nation and give them good leadership. God is bringing order out of chaos, new life out of a time of degeneration and death. The people of Israel must increasingly be dead to Saul and alive to David as king. So too, when we trust in Jesus as Lord, we transfer our allegiance from our old degenerate life of selfishness and sin to begin a new life in Christ. We bring our lives under his rule and reign. We proclaim and begin to embody his kingdom. What does it mean to be a Christian? One way to describe it is to say that we live under a new King. We are loyal to the loving King whom God the Father has given to the world, and we live in the hope and service of his kingdom. Loving God, break the power of sin in our lives. Help us to count ourselves dead to sin but alive to you through Jesus. Amen.

Eph 4:23-24 - and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.Transcript:And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ. What changes are supposed to happen when you become a Christian? One of them is, your mind is supposed to change because the person living inside of you is supposed to change. Ephesians, Chapter four, Verse 23 says, "And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And that you put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness."When a person is baptized into Christ, when they are immersed in water, they die and they are resurrected again to a new life. They come up out of that water, a new person and they're supposed to change. They're supposed to live differently. When you were baptized, did you come out and begin living a new life? Where did you go back to the old one -- think about that today. For more from the Collierville Church of Christ, visit Colliervillecoc.org

Ben Dannatt was a visiting speaker today. He spoke on the topic of one-another relationships. How they help us to become more fully the version of Jesus we can be. His key texts included Ecclesiastes 4:12; Hebrews 12:15-16; 1 Corinthians 12:12, 21-23; Proverbs 18:24. His main points were: 1. A culture of openness and vulnerability; 2. Complementary relationships; 3. Safety and support. His concluding questions were: "How can I be a great relational support to the other disciples especially those close to me in my life? "How can I be the friend that God has called me to be to others?" You can find more videos on our YouTube channel. Our web site is www.watfordchurchofchrist.org.
