In this compelling episode of the Alcohol Minimalist Podcast, Molly reconnects with Katie Lain, founder of Thrive Alcohol Recovery, to explore the power of neuroscience-based strategies for changing your relationship with alcohol. Katie shares her personal recovery story and how the Sinclair Method, a treatment protocol that uses the medication naltrexone, gave her a new lease on life. This conversation goes beyond the medication to highlight the vital role of mindset, habit formation, and long-term commitment to behavior change. Molly and Katie discuss the real-world challenges people face in recovery, the importance of self-compassion, and how small, sustainable steps create the most lasting transformation. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How the Sinclair Method works and why it's effective for both binge and daily drinkersWhy medication is a support tool, not a standalone solutionThe mental space that opens up when cravings start to fadeThe average timeline to regain control and build a peaceful relationship with alcoholUnique challenges for binge drinkers, including compliance and thought patternsThe critical importance of mindset and identifying unconscious beliefsWhat to expect on the journey: setbacks, progress, and learning to keep goingWhy self-compassion and curiosity are non-negotiables for long-term changeKey Message: Naltrexone can be a powerful part of the journey, but it must be paired with thought work, intentional habit-building, and a willingness to take small steps forward—even after setbacks. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and both Molly and Katie emphasize that you don't have to wait until alcohol becomes a serious problem to start creating change.Resources Mentioned:Learn more about Thrive Alcohol Recovery: thrivealcoholrecovery.comKatie Lain on YouTube, Instagram, and other social platformsMolly's coaching programs and podcast archive: www.mollywatts.comLet's Connect:Website: www.mollywatts.comInstagram: @alcoholminimalistFacebook: Join the Alcohol Minimalists GroupLow risk drinking guidelines from the NIAAA:Healthy men under 65:No more than 4 drinks in one day and no more than 14 drinks per week.Healthy women (all ages) and healthy men 65 and older:No more than 3 drinks in one day and no more than 7 drinks per week. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. Welcome to my Hypnosis and Meditation channel. This particular recording is a very specific one – as well as a very personal one for me – as it aims to support those who are working through The Sinclair Method. This program (also known as TSM) is a scientifically proven approach that helps people regain control over alcohol by gradually rewiring the brain's relationship with drinking.Having experienced firsthand the transformative impact of TSM, I know that success isn't just about taking the medication—it's also about breaking long-held habits, shifting behaviors, and embracing new, healthier patterns. That's why I created this hypnosis session—to guide and support you in this deeper, subconscious process of change, renewal, and self-empowerment.Hypnotherapy is an incredible tool that enables us to speak to the subconscious part of the mind – the part that is in control of our emotions and habits, therefore enabling a much higher success rate than just desperately relying on willpower in the everyday conscious part of our brains. Please like and share my recordings - and of course, subscribe to my channel, as I'll be putting out more Hypnosis & Meditation videos as often as I can :).About Me: I'm a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Coach based in Seville in Spain but I see clients online from all around the world, specialising in Alcohol Moderation and Abstinence. Please feel free to contact me for any enquiries via Instagram www.instagram.com/steveroetherapy.#hypnotherapy #forsleep #sleephypnosis #MaleVoiceHypnosis #deepsleep #sleepmeditationMusic – Healing Tides - Amber Glow c/o Epidemic Sound⚠DISCLAIMER⚠ All media content created by Steve Roe Therapy is intended for education and entertainment purposes only. Welcome along to my channel and to this week's Deep Sleep Hypnosis audio. This one is without doubt my most personal recording to date, as it specifically focusses on supporting those who are either part of, or starting out on The Sinclair Method program for Alcohol Use Disorder. TSM has not only changed my relationship with alcohol but has without doubt changed my whole life for the better and I will forever be an advocate for this incredible method. Therefore, it has been an absolute pleasure for me, to be able to write out this script and to help motivate anybody within the program looking for some extra support and motivation along the way. The Sinclair Method (TSM) is a treatment that uses a technique called pharmacological extinction — the use of an opiate blocker to turn habit-forming behaviours into habit-erasing behaviours. The effect returns a person's craving for alcohol to its pre-addiction state. TSM consists of taking an opiate blocker one hour before your first drink of the day for as long as you continue to drink. The opiate blocker chemically disrupts the body's behaviour or reward cycle, causing you to want to drink less instead of more. The Sinclair Method has a 78% long-term success rate. Unfortunately, it is criminally, relatively unknown around the globe for various reasons which include; GP / General Healthcare industry lack of awareness or training, poor profitability potential and simply the fact that it goes against the commonly held belief that successful alcohol treatment and recovery requires abstinence. For more information about The Sinclair Method, visit the CThree Foundation website (https://cthreefoundation.org/). The C Three Foundation is the world's only nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the Sinclair Method for treating and preventing alcohol use disorder. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this audio or any of my other recordings as much as I enjoy creating them. I have to give credit to those who've inspired me to do this - the likes of Michael Sealey, Tansy Forrest, Jason Stephenson, Adam Cox (and many more) who are incredible in this field. About Me: I'm a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Coach based in Seville in Spain but I see clients online from all around the world. I specialise in Alcohol Moderation and Abstinence but have a wide range of experience supporting clients in different areas. I am also a certified TSM (The Sinclair Method) Coach. Tune in for this conversation about an innovative way to reduce alcohol use, using an FDA-approved medication in an “off label” way. Brian Noonan is our guest, and he describes the Sinclair Method, now available in 35 states, using the medication Naltrexone. This physician-prescribed medication is typically used to treat an alcohol use disorder during a period of abstinence. The approach that our guest describes, the Sinclair Method, reduces the pleasurable or euphoric effects of drinking. But, without the abstinence. In effect, the behavior of excess alcohol use does not produce the same desired effect, thus reducing the “reward” for drinking. This is in contrast to the traditional approach that requires that the person abstain from alcohol while using the drug. Hence, the “off label” descriptor. Be sure to join us. Mini Bio Passionate about helping to control the alcohol epidemic, Brian earned his Nurse Practitioner Degree from Vanderbilt University, with specific training at the Vanderbilt Institute for Treatment of Addiction. For the last 15 years, Brian has helped thousands of patients to decrease their alcohol consumption using The Sinclair Method, as well as treating many other general psychiatry patients including those with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. He now focuses on spreading the word about The Sinclair Method so that more people can break free from their negative alcohol use patterns. For Our Listeners Brian's website: The Sinclair Method

In this episode, I sat down with Katie Lain to talk about how domestic violence and addiction often go hand in hand. To escape the devastating realities of her home life, Katie found herself turning to alcohol more and more finding herself hopelessly addicted. Even after she freed herself from her abuser, the addiction remained but not forever. Listen with me as Katie shares her story of how she found her own way to thrive after abuse and addiction. Katie Lain struggled with alcohol addiction for almost 10 years – cycling in and out of periods of abstinence and relapse. She desperately wanted to fix her drinking problem, but couldn't figure out how. But in 2017, she finally escaped this cycle when she learned about a medication-assisted treatment for alcohol dependence called The Sinclair Method (TSM).TSM is a clinically-proven treatment for alcohol addiction discovered in the 1990s and helps people reduce heavy drinking and eliminate alcohol cravings over time. Katie gradually reduced her drinking through this method, to the point of going completely (and accidentally) alcohol-free one year after she started. She now runs Thrive Alcohol Recovery where she offers a comprehensive program for The Sinclair Method, and she also serves as an advocate for this method – reaching thousands of people through her social media channels. Katie Lain is the co-founder of Thrive Alcohol Recovery, an organization that uses the Sinclair Method to help treat alcohol use disorder (AUD). Katie struggled a decade trying to get her drinking under control, but no programs or treatments worked. In searching the internet for answers, she found a TedX featuring Claudia Christian, How I Overcame Alcoholism, and thought what she was saying was too good to be true. Developed by Dr. David Sinclair, the Sinclair Method works by taking naltrexone, an FDA approved medication, 1-2 hours before drinking, to block the pleasure receptors in your brain. With long-term, consistent use, it is medically proven effective at changing a person's relationship with alcohol. SMART Recovery is a great compliment to the Sinclair Method because it teaches people tools, like the Hierarchy of Values (HOV) and Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA), to help them understand why they abused alcohol and how to now live life without it. Claudia is an actress, speaker, author and Sinclair Method advocate. She is also a woman in long term sobriety who found freedom through the use of harm reduction.Claudia started out as a normal social drinker but turned into a binge drinker and realized she had a problem. She went through many different programs and tried all different kinds of therapies and treatments, but her cravings remained debilitating. In 2009 went through medical detox that used the Sinclair Method–taking the opiate blocker Naltrexone before drinking alcohol to block reinforcement in the brain and decrease desire to drink alcohol. Three months into the Sinclair Method she completely forgot about alcohol. Used it for “harm reduction” and continued to drink occasionally for the first nine years before she decided to use it to get sober. We discuss the monetization of addiction in America (the revolving door model–people perpetually going through expensive treatment programs and then relapsing), and how the low cost of the generic drug Naltrexone is not lucrative for Big Pharma. We share how having a sense of “emotional sobriety”--keeping the joy within us even when things in life get hard is critical. Being sober means being present with our emotions and being able to better heal from loss. Dr. Roland Engelbrecht is a family physician in British Columbia, Canada, who has dedicated his medical practice to addiction treatment. He is also a member of the Canadian Alcohol Use Disorder Society, founded by Dr. Jeff Harries. The goals of CAUDS include educating the public about alcohol use disorder and how it is a medical condition that deserves compassion, not stigma. CAUDS also works to educate healthcare providers and the public about proven medical treatments that are effective in helping people to overcome alcohol addiction. While previous episodes on this podcast have focused on the use of naltrexone in treating alcohol use disorder, there are other medical treatments which can be helpful, in addition to naltrexone, or as an alternative for people who cannot tolerate naltrexone. There are also people who do not respond well to naltrexone, so adding additional medication can sometimes be helpful. Now, that medication assisted treatment of alcohol use disorder is becoming more commonplace, mainly as a harm reduction method in the form of The Sinclair Method, it is important that patients and their doctors understand that there are additional treatments available that can help to make their program more effective, if needed.I hope that this podcast episode is helpful in providing useful information to patients who can share it with their doctors, and for doctors who are looking for additional resources to offer their patients. Alcohol addiction is a serious and difficult condition to overcome. There are many different medical services that, when used together, can help treat and prevent addiction. As simple as this seems, many people neglect these solutions until it is too late.Have you heard about the C Three Foundation? The C Three foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for The Sinclair Method, or TSM. TSM is a way to reduce alcohol consumption for people who suffer from alcohol addiction and for gray area drinkers.Jenny Williamson is the Executive Director of the Board of Directors of the C Three Foundation. She works hard to increase awareness of TSM so that more alcohol dependent people will have the opportunity to learn more about this form of pharmacological extinction that essentially erases the alcohol habit from the brain.Unfortunately, the treatment industry has not participated in promoting this harm reduction protocol for helping people to reduce their drinking. Ms. Williamson is aware that most of that responsibility has fallen on the C Three Foundation. There are several alcohol addiction treatment options, including TSM. It is reasonable to offer patients choices and it is reasonable to make recomendations based on the individual situations of individual patients.People deserve equal access to treatment for alcohol misuse. Ms. Williamson and actress Claudia Christian have created the C Three Foundation as a program to act as a bridge between healthcare providers and people interested in medication for alcohol treatment so they can work on overcoming alcoholism. While naltrexone is the main medication used in The Sinclair Method, the C Three Foundation has no connection to the manufacturers of Naltrexone. While naltrexone, the opiate blocker, plays an important part in treating alcohol abuse, there is more to TSM than just taking a pill every day.As a tax exempt organization that is structured as a charity, the C Three Foundation provides information on the science of TSM and it provides an advanced treatment locator to help prospective patients to find healthcare providers experienced with TSM.Please visit Jenny Williamson at https://cthreefoundation.org/Learn more at our website https://drleeds.com and our podcast website, https://therehab.com.
There is a difference between alcoholism and alcohol use disorder. From having a chronic need or nagging cravings and obsessive thoughts...to dysfunction such as binge drinking and/or poor choices. It's good to stop and check yourself now and then to see if there might be some changes necessary in order to be as healthy as possible and that includes our relationship with alcohol (even when it comes to fun, acceptable, social drinking). Check out this episode of the Unhooked Podcast and ask yourself some of the questions that might be indicators that it's time to take a break, or make a change. Or pass it along to someone who might benefit from knowing the specific signs of struggle. This episode concludes with information about the Sinclair Method, an option of alcohol treatment for those with a severe struggle, or anyone who feels unable to stop cold turkey. The Sinclair Method is gradual and gentle, with lots of support and solutions...and an amazing success rate for those hoping to achieve sobriety. (The Sinclair Method can be used for alcohol treatment - as well as for help and relief from opiate dependency.) Listen in, check it out, pass it on! The Sinclair Method And Naltrexone… have I REALLY changed my mind?I have always been a very vocal critic of the whole taking a drug to fix a drug problem. Recently some people have been asking me if I have changed my mind somewhat. The answer is yes and no!I tried taking medication to fix my problem drinking and it didn't work. I tried Antabuse and it nearly killed me, I tried The Sinclair Method and I found the side effects horrendous. As with everything else I write about, my view on this is based purely on my own experience. I can't recommend taking drugs to fix your drinking problem because that approach didn't work for me.It didn't work for me, but…However, because I refuse to endorse solutions like the Sinclair Method I get a lot of abuse and hate from fans of the medication. They are often as aggressive as the people who insist that AA is the only acceptable solution. They proudly declare Naltrexone to be the new savior of the alcoholic – just because it worked for them. The “Sinclair Method” is not a fresh idea and the majority of the analysis pertaining to it was carried out in the 1980s. It is named for the scientist who initially created it and helped it obtain notability initially in Europe. The basis of it is quite straightforward, which explains its allure. What is The Sinclair Method?Basically, the technique entails taking a medicine, Naltrexone, to be precise, just before consuming alcohol, each and every time you drink alcohol.Naltrexone is an opioid opposer and is most prominently used to obstruct the activity of man-made opioids like heroin, morphine, oxycodone, etc. within the system so that if an individual consumes both compounds the opioid is rendered nonfunctional as far as analgesia and exhilaration.Essentially, and in theory, a man or woman who consumes alcohol while on the medicine will not experience the same chemically-fulfilling experience an individual who consumes alcohol without it will. Simply put, take Naltrexone before you consume alcohol and you will not get the same pleasure you once did from drinking, Drinking without the pleasure.
