You cannot live a changed life while you hold onto the life you do not want to change.
Paul goes into a testimony of how Jesus changed his life. He talks about his past and tells Timothy that he was the worst of sinners. This was triggered because he was talking about these people who think they know the law but really have no idea what they are talking about. As he was talking, he starts going through the ten commandments and he must have started reflecting back on how, even though he knew the law well as a Pharisee and had a zeal for God, was a sinner and needed the grace and mercy of God. We are all sinners and need Jesus to save us. We all have a sinful past, some of you are still in sin because you have never died to yourself and been washed in the blood of Jesus! Why not? What is holding you back? We want to hear your story of how God changed your life when you met Jesus!
Sometimes we try really hard to change things by our own power, to look good in front of others or earn God's love. It's exhausting! Paul reminds us that God has already saved us and given us His power, even though we did not deserve it. Now, we have the exciting opportunity to embark on the adventure of living a little more like Jesus each day. -- Questions for Reflection & Discussion What is one area you have seen God change your life? How can you thank Him for it this week? What is one way you can put your mind on Christ and things above starting this week? Are there any sins in your life that you need to put to death? What is one way you can put them to death this week? What is one way you can put on Christ's love towards people around you this week?

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT) During a visit to the Pacific Northwest several years ago, I met a man who told me he’d been heavily into alcohol and drugs. His marriage, he said, had been hanging by a thread. One day, he loaded a gun, planning to kill himself. Then he turned on the TV. There on the screen was a Harvest Crusade, where I was sharing a message called, “How to Get Right with God.” The man said, “God began to speak to me. When you led those people in prayer, I prayed and asked Jesus Christ to come into my life.” After he found Christ, the man realized he needed to reconcile with his father. So, he rode his motorcycle across the country to see his dad. That’s a long ride on a motorcycle. That sounds like a conversion to me. That sounds like a man who had met God, because there was a change in his life. That’s a familiar pattern in Scripture: have a personal encounter with the Lord and then find that your life is changed as a result. In 2 Kings 5, after the military commander Naaman was healed from his leprosy, he immediately rejected all idols and wanted to show his gratitude with a gift. In Acts 9, after Saul encountered Jesus on his way to arrest Christians, he changed the entire trajectory of his life. He became a leader of the people he had been persecuting. In Acts 16, after the Philippian jailer became a believer, he washed the backs of the prisoners he had previously whipped. And in Luke 19, after the tax collector Zacchaeus encountered Jesus, he vowed to give half his wealth to the poor and repay the people he’d cheated four times what he owed them. Let’s be clear: None of these people changed so that they could make themselves good enough for the Lord. They didn’t earn their salvation or righteousness with their good deeds. The change came after their encounter with the Lord, as a result of His impact on their life. The apostle Paul—the man known as Saul in Acts 9—wrote, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT). After you give your life to Christ, your next step is to foster this new person and embrace the changes that will occur in your life. The Holy Spirit, who takes up residence inside you when you receive Christ, will guide you in this step. He will remind you that certain attitudes, habits, and routines are part of your old life. He will help you adjust to the changes that Jesus initiates. He will help you enjoy the “rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT) that only Jesus offers. How the COVID-19 pandemic affected the personal and professional lives of Iowans.
In Acts 4:13, the religious leaders marveled at Peter and John—astonished by their boldness and the power they displayed. Though they were ordinary men, it was undeniable that they had been with Jesus. In the same way, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, our lives should reflect that transformation—empowered, changed, and unmistakably marked by His presence.

The gospel forever changes my life.
As Pastor Chuck finishes out this series, we learn how to live out a Changed Life through the book of Ephesians Chapter 4.
We have been looking at the life of Paul and how God makes changes in our life or helps us make the changes we want. So far we have talked about life in Christ as the first step to change, then the confidence we have in change, the purpose we have in change; and today I want to talk about God’s purpose for us in change. What is God doing when we are trying to lose weight, read our Bible more, learn to play an instrument, make this a better relationship? When we are trying to change things; what is God doing? That’s an important question because we want to make sure we are lining up with what God is doing, lest we find ourselves, like Paul, fighting what God is doing.
In this Love In Action Minute, you will hear about a homeless woman we had been showing the love of Jesus to for a few years. Then one day she came to Martha and Ken and said, "I want to change my life." She gave her life to Jesus and we were able to get her the help she needed and wanted. It takes time, but when we are patient and treat others with respect and the love of Jesus, we will see lives transformed.
Friends, today we dove into Luke 19, exploring Zacchaeus's encounter with Jesus—a case study in gospel transformation, a journey from greediness to generosity. Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector and a rich man, was in spiritual peril, trapped by his wealth. His name, ironically meaning "pure" or "clear," contrasted sharply with his corrupt practices. Like the rich man building bigger barns or the rich young ruler clinging to his possessions, Zacchaeus was in danger of losing everything for his love of money. Yet, something remarkable happened. He humbled himself, climbing a tree in desperation to see Jesus, breaking social conventions and risking public ridicule. This act of humility foreshadowed the transformation to come. Jesus, seeing Zacchaeus, invited himself over, extending grace to this unlikely recipient. Zacchaeus's response was astonishing: he gave away half his wealth to the poor and pledged fourfold restitution to anyone he'd defrauded. This radical generosity wasn't about earning salvation; it was the fruit of salvation already received. Like the tax collector in Jesus's parable, Zacchaeus recognized his sinfulness and received God's mercy. This transformed his relationship with money. He no longer sought significance, security, or satisfaction in wealth; Jesus had become his treasure. He let go of earthly riches to grab hold of the true riches found in Christ. This transformation happened through the gospel. Jesus declared, "Today salvation has come to this house." This salvation preceded Zacchaeus's generosity, demonstrating that grace, not works, is the source of true change. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and Zacchaeus, the bullseye of God's grace, exemplified this truth. No one is beyond God's reach. Grace transforms. Paul's words in 2 Corinthians illuminate this further: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich." Meditating on Christ's sacrifice—leaving heavenly riches to become poor for us—motivates us to make him our treasure. And when Jesus is our treasure, radical generosity naturally follows. So, where do we go from here? We can cultivate generosity by climbing the ladder of giving. Start with an initial gift, a step of faith. Then, move towards intentional, disciplined giving, aiming for the biblical standard of 10%. From there, consider missional giving, going above and beyond out of love for God and others. Finally, embrace legacy generosity, making giving a part of your life's story. God wants to be your greatest treasure, freeing you from the grip of material possessions and offering an abundant life in His kingdom. He offers significance, security, and satisfaction that can never be taken away. Let the gospel transform your heart, leading to a life of radical generosity, a life that testifies to the joy of a changed life, a life that even an atheist can't deny. Let's pray that God loosens our grip on worldly things and fills our hearts with the magnitude of His treasure.

At the beginning of a new year, most of us think about how we have lived and how we want to live in the future. Paul says real change is possible if we consider two things: our bodies and our minds. In this sermon, we look at what it means to offer our bodies and our minds to God and what he promises to do for us when we do. Key Verses: Romans 12:1-2

The Big Idea: We hear it said all the time. People don't change. Who they are….is who they are. It's seems like a hopeless statement. But Christianity is about change. The Bible is full of stories about messed up people who changed by the power of God. God takes what people see as useless, worthless, ruined, and broken and makes them new.Main Points:1. Jesus defeated the curse of sin by his sacrificial death on the cross. He did not die on the cross so we would stay bound to sin. He died on the cross to set us free.2. Do you ever wonder why people can't bring themselves to say yes to Jesus? It requires faith. It requires courage. It's so hard for people to believe they can change. 3. True change always begins with faith in God. I know we make feeble attempts to change our lives, but until the heart is changed we are not truly changed. Behavior modification is nice, but God's change goes much deeper.Today's Scripture Verses:John 8:44 - “He has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”Joshua 2:9-11 - “I know that the Lord has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt…..for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
