Want to stop chasing one-off gigs and start building predictable, recurring income? John MacAdam reveals how. He built his side hustle over 15 years while working full-time as an engineer — and eventually used it to launch a successful solo business. You can follow John's lead after hearing how he: Shifted from hourly rates to value-based pricing — and tripled his income Turned a $6K one-off project into a $5K/month retainer (still active 2+ years later) Positions himself as a trusted advisor, not just a task-doer Uses simple systems to build long-term client loyalty Turned early failures — like a “your app sucks” review — into growth and momentum Do you like what you're hearing? Consider giving it a caffeinated thumbs up. We'd really appreciate it! Need a little (and sometimes big) push to start and stay focused to grow your side hustle? If you've ever launched a website or video and walked away, this one's for you. No worries, we're not judging! It's a common trap to fall into, and when you ignore it, it quickly becomes a pain to update. But in today's world, where your brand story is always in motion, marketing needs to be treated as an ongoing, strategic effort. In this episode, we're making the case for retainer-style budgets and maintenance models that reflect how content actually works: continuously, iteratively, and in partnership. We explore how consistent investment leads to better outcomes, more efficient use of time and resources, and greater flexibility when the unexpected happens. Planning for ongoing care keeps your tools from becoming outdated, your messaging fresh, and your brand infrastructure responsive. It's not just about having a polished launch — it's about keeping things healthy, aligned, and ready for what's next.

Announced as part of the Auckland Winter Concert Series lineup, Dobbyn and his band will perform everything from his celebrated anthems to “an extraordinary catalogue of deeper cuts”. World Athletics has approved the introduction of cheek swabbing to determine if an athlete is biologically female. The global body's president Sebastian Coe says the decision is further evidence his organisation will protect the women's category in competition. The intention is to have the testing in place for September's world championships in Tokyo. Former Olympian and Otago University Emeritus Professor Dave Gerrard says the science behind the proposed tests is solid - and it's a reliable testing method. "It's used in common medical practice for genetic issues - and to determine the sex of individuals. So it's sound, and it is sound science."
