Back with more new episodes for 2021, Nottingham Playhouse’s Amplify Producer Craig Gilbert chats to more artists of national and international renown in our Amplify Podcast series. These conversations cover career and process, as well as offering a few ideas to explore from home during this time of social distancing. He is currently working on an original creation with Kneehigh Theatre as Director/Choreographer that will premier in Spring 2016.Tom was a winner of the New Adventures Choreographer Award in 2012.Tom has also worked extensively as a performer touring regularly with ‘Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures’. Other highlights include; Tristan And Yseult (Kneehigh Theatre) and Kes (Sheffield Crucible).

On Personality Bingo this week; Ali Hardiman, an actress of both stage and screen. Ali will perform in DISCONNECTED, a play she has written, which will run nightly @ 7.30pm in The New Theatre from January 21st to February 2nd inc. She plays 'Scarlett' in another one of her plays 'ELECTRIC' alongside fellow agency actress Ericka Roe who plays 'Joni'. It ran at several theatre festivals over the summer including the Electric Picnic in September having enjoyed a sell-out 2 week run in The Theatre Upstairs in Dublin earlier in 2018. 'ELECTRIC' is written by Ali and directed by Clare Maguire. Screen Acting wise Ali reprises her role of 'Professor X' (and other characters) in the second IFTA Award Winning series of "BERNARD DUNNE'S MYTHICAL LEGENDS" for RTE2 Television which is currently in post-production. Also in post-production is Jumper Productions Irish Film Board funded short "SOMETHING DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT" in which Ali plays 'Stacey'. The film is directed by Fergal Costello and produced by Fiona Kinsella. Ali also plays the supporting role of 'Miranda' in Treasure Entertainment's feature film "METAL HEART" directed by Hugh OConor, 'Becca' in the IADT graduation short 'BREASTFRIENDS' directed by Eleanor Rogers, a role in "LEAVE TO REMAIN" also for Treasure Entertainment/RTE Storyland, 'Ali' in the short film "A DIFFERENT KIND OF DAY" directed by Maria Doyle Kennedy and 'Sarah Dunne' in Tile Films "ASSASSINS" for TV3. Her theatre credits also include "INSIDE THE GPO" (Fishamble), "FIZZY DRINKS WITH TWO STRAWS" (Theatre Upstairs), "PROCLAMATION" (Smock Alley Theatre) and "Re:THINK" which Ali wrote and performed herself (Smock Alley Theatre).
Tom is joined by Brummie pop powerhouse, Clare Maguire, as they make a toast to the iconic French-Canadian chanteuse, Céline Dion. Clare brings Tom up to date on her early days going out in Birmingham through to sobriety and working with Mike Skinner and Fraser T Smith on her music. The pair discuss Clare’s Irish roots, her Dad’s love of The Corrs and the strange lack of fellow Midlanders in the music industry. Tom explains that Rihanna is the first female artist for 12 weeks to enter the Top 5 (a record since 1972) and Clare opens up about the struggles of being female artist, before choosing Céline Dion for all three (!) of her Aux Cable Selections.
This week, our project is an album called Stranger Things Have Happened by English singer/songwriter Clare Maguire---on the face of it, an album that's split in tone, and potentially in theme. Can we wrestle our hearts with an album like this? We hope you will, because the gems are without a doubt, a reward in themselves. Partially influenced by jazz, lounge, soul, and dreampop, we encourage you to experience this album with us and join us in pondering its many distinctive flavors.
