Death might be one of the most relational acts possible. I think death is that threshold moment where that illusion is dissolved. Our death is a moment of redistribution of nutrients, of memory, of rhythm, of vibration into the wider field, from the illusion of a single self into the remembering of an entangled self. I love to think about death as a teacher of surrender and a trust in the intelligence of regeneration. - Azul Carolina Duque(Below is the script that you can hear me narrate in this episode.)Its January 20, 2026. I was going to publish this roundtable called death as transformation later this year to inaugurate the 7th season of the conscient podcast but I changed my mind – imagine that - and have added it to season 6 because I've decided to take a long break from producing both of my podcasts and my Substack in order to do some thinking and meditation and self-care but I wanted to get this very special episode out to you now in case I decide not to continue with the podcast after my break. It's one of those pivotal moments. Here's back story on this episode. In November 2025, Artistic Director of New Adventures in Sound Art, Darren Copeland, asked me if I would like to participate in an episode of his monthly Making Waves radio program, which is broadcast on WGXC 90.7 FM in New York's Upper Hudson Valley and also available as a podcast. Darren wanted to talk about one of my favorite topics, climate change and asked me what would I like to talk about specifically? And to my surprise I immediately answered: death. I went on to explain that I meant death in the sense of how our spirit and consciousness continues when our body goes back to the earth, and what might this spirit and consciousness sound like? I was also interested in how this heightened awareness might help us relate to complex issues like climate change and societal disruption. So I helped Darren select an expert panel of sound artists and on December 2, 2025, I moderated a 55 minute recording for the December 13, 2025 edition of Making Waves that featured three former guests of my conscientpodcast : Azul Carolina Duque, who you can hear on e211 art as medicine, Kenneth Newby who you can hear on e207 living with grace and Wendelin Bartley who you can hear on e222 restoring our connection with nature. So what you're about to hear is a rebroadcast of this conversation. This conversation is quite magical because we were able to share some very intimidate stories about our own vulnerabilities, our relationship to death and how our practices as sound artists relates to this transition. You'll hear that I ask each of my guests to respond to this 12-word sentence by a friend of mine, Tim Brodhead: Death as a natural transformation of energy and consciousness, not an end.And won't worry the episode is actually a lot of fun and quite enlightening. It's really more about transition than an end. I'm so pleased that it concludes this chapter of the conscient podcast and in a way begins whatever might come next. Thanks so much for listening. Thank you Darren, Azul, Kenneth and Wendelin.See you next time. *END NOTES FOR ALL EPISODESHey conscient listeners, I've been producing the conscient podcast as a learning and unlearning journey since May 2020. It's my way to give back. This Indigenous Land Acknowledgement statement was developed by members of the Algonquin community for my former employer the Canada Council for the Arts. I have adapted slightly to make it my own.I acknowledge that my studio, located in Ottawa, is on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.I recognize the Algonquins as the customary keepers and defenders of the Ottawa River Watershed and its tributaries. I honour their long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and uphold and uplift the voice and values of our Host Nation.Further, I offer my respect and affirm the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land and honour commitments to self-determination and sovereignty that have been made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples.I acknowledge the historical oppression of lands, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada and fervently believe the Arts contribute to the healing and decolonizing journey we all share togetherIn parallel with the production of the conscient podcast and its francophone counterpart, balado conscient, I I publish a free ‘a calm presence' monthly Substack see https://acalmpresence.substack.com.Your feedback is always welcome at claude@conscient.ca and/or on social media: Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Threads, BlueSky, Mastodon, Tik Tok, YouTube and Substack.Share what you like, etcI am grateful and accountable to the earth and the human labour that provided me with the privilege of producing this podcast, including the toxic materials and extractive processes behind the computers, recorders, transportation systems and infrastructure that made this production possible. Who would have thought that Theatre of War would have had such an impact on the Whoniverse? It's famous for introducing Irving Braxiatel, the Doctor's REDACTED, who would go on to appear in Gallifrey, Bernice Summerfield and a host of other audio ranges from Big Finish, as well as original novels. We have interviews with writer Justin Richards, his son Julian, cover artist Jeff Cummins, and audio adaptation cover artist Will Brooks, plus our usual readings and reactions from readers, then and now.

In the first episode of the year we embark on another journey through the golden age of radio, beginning with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in The Reluctant Tobacconist. Friday Number Five | Episode 20 January 30 | 2026 HOST Owen Kelly COMMENTARY On months that have a fifth Friday we break from our normal schedule and produce something else related tangentially to questions of cultural democracy. In 2026 we dive once more into the golden age of radio to bring back some historical examples of serials and comedies that let us hear unfiltered aspects of the world as it seemed to our grandparents. We begin with a fine example of the ways in which motion pictures and radio worked together. Many movies became radio series, either as adaptations or as sequels or extensions. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce had made a series of succesful movies as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, and they turned this into an equally successful radio series: The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Here we listen to The Reluctant Tobacconist, first broadcast on April 30, 1945. REFERENCES Wikipedia: the New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Archive.org Old Radio World
In this powerful February Energy Forecast, Emily shares why this month marks a turning point you've been preparing for over the last six months and why your life is about to change in ways you can already feel building beneath the surface. February carries highly activating, fast-moving energy that signals the start of a brand-new chapter. This is the moment you move from preparation into momentum, from being pulled back into being launched forward. Emily explores the collective theme of change, the feeling of being set up for a slingshot moment, and what it means to trust the unknown as you step into a new timeline. This episode weaves personal reflections from Emily's deeply inward January with astrological insights, energetic guidance, and grounded wisdom to help you stay regulated, present, and aligned as everything begins to shift. Emily breaks down the major transits shaping the month, including Neptune and Saturn moving into Aries, the Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse, and a powerful Aquarius solar eclipse that sets the tone for bold forward movement, clarity, and self-leadership. This is an episode about remembering who you are, reconnecting with what lights you up, and trusting your inner guidance above all else as you take off into a new phase of your life. ✨ In this episode, Emily covers: The February theme of change and why nothing will be the same after this month What it means to be in the “takeoff” phase after months of inner preparation How January served as a hermit month of healing, discipline, and foundation-building Why routines, self-care, and nervous system regulation are essential during rapid change Trusting your inner guidance over external opinions Neptune moving into Aries and the return to clarity, embodiment, and self-authority Saturn entering Aries and the end of a deeply emotional Saturn in Pisces cycle The Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse and its themes of momentum, passion, and action The Aquarius solar eclipse and why February's midpoint is especially powerful Following what lights you up and reconnecting with joy, passion, and aliveness Why connection, presence, and staying grounded will matter more than ever February invites you to stop playing small, stop settling, and stop doubting yourself. This is the month where you begin to soar, guided by clarity, trust, and a deeper connection to your truth.

The room goes quiet after a major role changes—kids move out, routines fade, and you're left staring at a blank page. We lean into that space with a fresh frame: think of your life as a story you're authoring, not a script you're handed. From there, we use reflection prompts and practical tools to redesign your next chapter with intention and weave travel in as a catalyst for identity, creativity, and joy.We start by revisiting your eight-year-old self to uncover traits that never really left—curiosity, movement, creativity—and treat those as guideposts. Then we map your current “cast” and name the real conflicts: setting boundaries with adult children, shifting purpose after years of caregiving, or rebuilding confidence after a long season of responsibility. With a clear idea of the climax you want—a bold step, a reclaimed talent, a renewed sense of self—we plan travel that supports growth rather than distracts from it.You'll learn how to build a 20-activity joy list, schedule it so it actually happens, and turn items into trips that fit your values. Think hot air balloons in Cappadocia or at the Albuquerque festival, a butterfly migration in Mexico instead of a local exhibit, movement-focused getaways, or creative retreats that reignite your craft. The goal isn't more stamps in a passport; it's experiences that move the plot forward. Whether you're reclaiming an old self or practicing a new one, these steps help you design travel that feels personal, purposeful, and doable right now.If this season feels like transition without a map, start with the prompts, choose one aligned activity, and give yourself a destination that matches your story. Subscribe for more practical tools, share this with a friend who needs a fresh chapter, and leave a review to tell us what trip you're planning next. Hey friends! For years I've been asked, "Why don't you put any of your content in video form or have it on Youtube?" And the truth is, because it always felt like "one more heavy thing" to add to my already long list as a woman of ONE in my business. But we don't grow by dragging our feet or resisting, so I decided what better time to add video that at the start of 2026. So if you're only hearing the audio, just know each week I will be doing my best to also release the video version on Youtube if that is more your style! Thanks for all your support over the years and KEEP SHARING THE PODCAST with friends!Support the showVisit macierenae.com to learn more about Macie & her work!Interested in working with her? Christmas is only a week away and we've got a pair of old time radio mysteries for stocking stuffers. Charles Russell stars in a yuletide adventure of Johnny Dollar - "Small Time Swindles of Big Time Department Stores - Or How I Played Santa Claus and Almost Got Left Holding the Sack" (originally aired on CBS on December 24, 1949) - and Sydney Greenstreet tries to save St. Nick in "The Case of the Slaughtered Santas" from The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe (originally aired on NBC on December 22, 1950).
Robert Frederick Paulsen American voice actor and voice director, known for his roles in numerous animated television series and films. He received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program and three Annie Awards for his role as both Yakko and Pinky in the Animaniacs franchise. His other voice roles include: Hadji in The New Adventures of Jonny Quest (1986–1987) and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest (1996–1997); Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987–1996); P.J. Pete in Goof Troop (1992), A Goofy Movie (1995), and An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000); Jaq in Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002) and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007); and Mac in The Looney Tunes Show (2011–2013) and Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run (2015).
In this episode, Austin and Tim discover another stowaway aboard their time machine. This time it's Austin's lifelong friend Dan Midthun hitching a ride to 1988, where they had a 5-movie marathon. These are the films they saw: The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking, Monkey Shines, Big Top Pee-Wee, Midnight Run, and Wings of Desire. Plenty of surprises and lowbrow jokes this week!
Our two-part series on The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe wraps up with the final three actors to play Archie Goodwin opposite Sydney Greenstreet's gargantuan gourmet. Larry Dobkin - who you may know best as Louie, cab driver sidekick of The Saint - is Archie in "The Case of the Deadly Sellout" (originally aired on NBC on January 5, 1951). Gerald Mohr - the voice of Philip Marlowe - stars in "The Case of the Calculated Risk" (originally aired on NBC on January 19, 1951). And Harry Bartell - announcer and actor - plays Goodwin in "The Case of the Final Page" (originally aired on NBC on March 23, 1951).
This week on Tuesday Night Detectives, we open with The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in "The Great Gandolfo" starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Watson and Holmes square off against a master of deception whose illusions hide a far deadlier game, one that only the world's greatest detective can unravel. Then we turn up the pace with a double helping with Episodes 5 and 6 of Dick Barton, Special Agent. Barton plunges deeper into a high-stakes investigation packed with coded clues, shadowy villains, and the trademark cliffhangers that made this British thriller a sensation. Settle in for sharp wits, crackling suspense, and classic detective storytelling at its best here on Vintage Classic Radio.
We kick off a two-part series spotlighting The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe in celebration of two December birthdays - Rex Stout, the creator of the gargantuan gourmet, and Sydney Greenstreet, the Oscar-nominated actor who brought the sleuth to radio life. The show ran for just one season but six different actors played Wolfe's loyal assistant Archie Goodwin in those 26 episodes. The series and its star could never settle on a supporting actor, but the unusual revolving door allowed some of radio's best performers to take a stab at the character. We'll hear the first three Messrs Goodwin - Wally Maher in "Stamped for Murder" (originally aired on NBC on October 20, 1950); Lamont Johnson in "The Case of the Careworn Cuff" (originally aired on NBC on October 27, 1950); and Herb Ellis in "The Case of the Dear Dead Lady" (originally aired on NBC on November 3, 1950).
And now a reposting of this rambling and too brief review of "Holiday Knights", the first episode of "The New Adventures of Batman & Robin" that delivered a fun Christmas anthology.
Harry Bartell worked all over the dial during the Golden Age of Radio, both as an actor in shows like Gunsmoke, Escape, and Johnny Dollar and as an announcer for The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Casebook of Gregory Hood. We'll celebrate his November 29th birthday with some of his work. First, he's on a voyage where a fellow passenger is a deadly snake in "A Shipment of Mute Fate" from Escape (originally aired on CBS on March 28, 1948). Then, he plays Frank Smith, the new partner for Sgt. Friday on "The Big Safe" from Dragnet (originally aired on NBC on May 1, 1952). Next, he's Archie Goodwin to Sydney Greenstreet's Nero Wolfe in two mysteries: "The Case of the Midnight Ride" (originally aired on NBC on March 16, 1951) and "The Case of the Tell-Tale Ribbon" (originally aired on NBC on March 30, 1951). Finally, he plays Lieutenant Seiberts opposite Raymond Chandler in "Shavetail," a western drama from Fort Laramie (originally aired on CBS on March 3, 1956).
Madison has been giving Harry "Sponsor-Dude" Bartell a hard time since the first episode of "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" in season one. Our most recent episode, "The Casebook of Gregory Hood," left you with a cliffhanger! What will happen next? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We started our journey in 2018 with our first competition at Tomato Days, where we earned a reserve grand champion title. From that moment on, we were hooked. Initially, there were four of us on the team, but as life got in the way, two members dropped out. However, Mitch and I continued to pursue our passion. Our first KCBS competition took place in Bullhead City, where we met Anthony. It was there that we realized just how much we still had to learn. While focusing on mastering the four meats, we also got involved with the SCA, where we found success. We received invitations to the world championships four times in a row, and Mitch performed well enough to advance to the next round. In 2024, we decided we were ready to fully commit to KCBS and set ambitious goals, including a desire to compete at The Jack. Despite facing setbacks, we persevered. Although we didn't receive an invitation last year, we continued to push ourselves harder. I told Mitch that all I wanted for our anniversary was to attend The Jack, and we achieved that dream. We had an amazing time, and this experience has only fueled our determination to return.
