Does French spoken in a Brummie accent get you going?Welcome back to the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. There were no guests on the show this week, just some questionable impersonations of Noel Edmonds and Kate Nash instead. The team spoke about the news of Brownhaven sinking deeper into a hole… literally, it has a sink hole. This then led to further discussion about why Whitehaven breeds such great goalkeepers. With the lead-up to Glastonbury, Captain spoke about his campervan which, if we're honest, is just a Transit van with a shower hose stuck to the back. We also spoke to friend of he show, Rosie who was already there bright and early on Thursday with her (con)Dom flag flying high above camp.Four weeks in and still no winner of the 25k Box. All contestants walked away with a grand each in their pockets, apart from one incredibly lucky man (of course it was another bloke, still no female callers) who won an enormous five thousand pounds! Here's some more to to keep you entertained:Chris watering his plantsDom's holiday plans Captain's Glasto scheduleEnjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio XWeekdays 6:30am - 10am

In this episode — recorded on the somewhat sombre Wednesday after the U.S. elections — we welcome the wonderful Beverley Glick to our Hammersmith lair and ask her about her New Romantic nom de plume Betty Page. Beverley tells us about her early days on Sounds, where she started out as editor Alan Lewis' secretary, and talks us through her seminal 1980 encounters with Spandau Ballet and Steve Strange. Her subsequent early interview with Duran Duran leads us to clips from David Keeps' 1993 audio interview with the Brummie band's frontman Simon Le Bon. After touching briefly on Depeche Mode, whom Beverley also interviewed very early on, our guest revisits the short-lived Noise! — Sounds' very own attempt at "doing" a Smash Hits — and recounts her subsequent path to the editorship of the rather longer-standing Record Mirror. Memories of mad moments with Happy Mondays (for Vox), and Beverley's eventual graduation to national newspapers, take us to her decision to forsake journalism for a career as a life coach specialising in "leadership communication" — and as the author of this year's In Your Own Words. A few glum thoughts on the political distortion of words such as "freedom" segue into our homage to the brilliant and outrageous Quincy Jones. Mark then quotes from newly-added library pieces about the Who (1965) and Ronnie Scott (1979)... and Jasper wraps up the episode with his thoughts on articles about "Brazilian Prince" Ed Motta (2006) and Tricky's magnificent Maxinquaye (2023). Many thanks to special guest Beverley Glick. For more Beverley, including info on her books and coaching, visit beverleyglick.com. In this episode, I sit down with Dave James, an “irritatingly good speaker” and coach who helps business owners find their voice with authenticity, fun, and confidence. A professional speaker and 'tattooed Brummie with a beard', Dave brings a unique blend of humor, honesty, and real-world experience to our conversation about something we all need more of—authenticity.Dave's journey from podiatrist to business and speaker coach coach is packed with insights on how staying true to yourself can actually make you a better professional. We dive into the "professionalism paradox"—how trying too hard to be ‘professional' can sometimes bury your personality—and why that's a problem in healthcare. We also touch on the importance of trust, empathy, and just being present with patients. Dave shares some great stories and tips on how to navigate the tricky balance between being yourself and meeting the demands of your job. And of course, we couldn't resist geeking out over some music talk, including a fun side conversation about our love for Rage Against the Machine. If you're in healthcare (or any profession, really) and have ever felt the pressure to fit into a mold, this episode is for you. It's all about finding that sweet spot where professionalism and personality meet, and how that can lead to better outcomes for everyone involved.Be sure to connect with Dave on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/iamdavejames/ If you'd like to learn more about Strata EMR & RCM and achieving a 99.99% reimbursement rate for your PT, OT, or SLP Clinic head over to stratapt.com and book a demo with their team!

Has the question of whether Manchester or Birmingham is Britain's second city distracted us from another possibility: That Britain doesn't have a second city at all?David Rudlin, director of urban design at BDP, thinks so. A little-known law states that neither Birmingham nor Manchester are big enough to claim the title of Britain's second city, which brings us onto an interesting question: How have both cities fallen short? And what would it take for them to catch up?With thanks to Manchester Museum's Wild Show for sponsoring this episode. Wild is a brilliant new exhibition at Manchester Museum exploring how people are creating and repairing connections with nature, from post-industrial urban landscapes like Manchester to Aboriginal-led cultural revegetation projects in Western Australia and the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone National Park in the US.Many readers have been sending in photos of their favourite wild spaces, if you'd like to join them, just email us a photo and description of your favourite wild space to editor@manchestermill.co.uk. Along with his pet peeves in restaurants, weird food combos, and his dislike of fake cherry blossom trees, haha! In this episode we welcome the delightful Daryl Easlea to Hammersmith for a pre-Xmas special on Slade and the sadly-departed Shane MacGowan. Daryl talks about his Essex childhood: the psychogeography of Canvey Island; his memories of seeing Dr. Feelgood at Southend's legendary Kursaal Ballroom; and how working at Our Price Records led to an eclectic taste palette that stretched from prog-rock to Chic, the subject of his first book in 2004. We jump to Slade, the subject of his latest book, and discuss the legacy of glam-rock's Brummie bovver boys — culminating in the story behind their ageless 1973 hit 'Merry Xmas Everybody'. From there we sidestep into the parallel '70s stream of prog and public schoolboys Genesis. Clips from Adam Sweeting's 1992 audio interview with that band's former foxhead-sporting frontman Peter Gabriel give us an opportunity to evaluate the achievements of the maverick solo artist and WOMAD founder. News of Shane MacGowan's death at 65 came in as we were preparing to record this episode. With Daryl's help we do our best to pay tribute to the tragically self-destructive Pogues frontman before Mark recaps on new library pieces about Elton John (1974) and Eternal (1995). Finally, Jasper wraps up with remarks about a 2002 London show by Jack Black's Tenacious D... Many thanks to special guest Daryl Easlea. Whatever Happened to Slade? Then this episode is for you!James Bowker is a proud Brummie; that is someone from Birmingham, England btw, just like Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, one of my favorite programs. His early love of Japanese whisky grew into a role as the first House of Suntory Global Advocacy Manager. I met James many years ago when he was one of the ten finalists for the Diageo World Class UK, and have just now finally had him on the program. It was kismet as I was just about to step on a plane to Japan. He taught me so much, which made the experience a billion times better. Welcome to the Women's Running podcast: a very special Bake Off edition. We're your hosts, Esther Newman and Holly Taylor, and usually you can find us chatting about life and running – though, let's be honest, it's mostly the life bit. Every year we get terribly overexcited for the Great British Bake Off and discuss it at length on the pod. So here we are, turning it into its own spin off so we can dissect each episode properly. We'll be chatting about all the highs and lows from the Bake Off tent, playing total favourites and slagging off bakes we could never dream of producing ourselves. Whether you run while you listen, bake while you listen, or neither – enjoy this extra little morsel!SPOILER ALERT: Of course, this episode is chock full of spoilers. What did you expect? #470 Right Little Puck - Richard has some more incredible Birmingham facts to share with his Brummie audience. His guest is RHLSTP super fan and mischievous imp, Joe Lycett. They reveal how Richard was one of the few people who was in on the secret of his David Beckham money shredding, the surprising group of people who were offended by this stunt, whether accusations of Qatar-based hypocrisy hold any water (and was it RHLSTP that led to them?) why he wanted to make his new show in Birmingham and gave a leg up to local young people, why he still lives in Birmingham even though he doesn't have to, putting on an art exhibition with his mum, why he might be taking Harry Styles to the small claims court and the importance of enjoying success whilst it's happening and whether he fears the late middle-age breakdown that can afflict people in show business.Come and see RHLSTP on tour http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. EP72: Maintaining a 13 Stone weight loss when life "happens" - Catch up with Steve ** Please Note this episode contains a conversation discussing cancer ** Today I welcome Steve back to the WLW Podcast to talk about how he has continued to maintain his weight loss and how he navigates the challenges everyday life can throw at us. For anyone who has been with WLW since the beginning or has delved back to the earliest episodes, you will no doubt recognise Steve's Brummie accent. He was the star guest of episode number 2 (I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been referring to him as a "number 2" since then) and I welcome him back to hear what has been happening in his life since we aired his episode. It hasn't been the easiest year for Steve and I am full of admiration for the way he continues to find positives, help others and focus on moving forward. His resilience and strength is incredible and he is a true inspiration in every sense of the word. Something exciting we do discuss later in the episode is an amazing event taking place in July 2024 to raise money for charity. Steve is organising a group hike up Snowdon in Wales and EVERYONE is invited to join. The charity is called FAMILY FUND and supports families raising disabled, seriously ill children and young people who require financial help in order to cater to normal everyday things so many of us take for granted. Their main objective is: Giving grants to families on a low income for items they may not otherwise be able to afford. For example family breaks, digital equipment, white goods, clothing, bedding, furniture and play equipment. Offering services to help parents and carers to achieve the outcomes they want for their child and family. This includes where to go for support with money, benefits and budget planning, information on mental health and wellbeing. And practical workshops to help people get online and use digital tools. Providing ways for families to share their experiences, so they can influence lasting change on issues that matter to them. The challenge is open to anyone wanting to take part, regardless of whether you have completed a weight loss journey, are currently on one or haven't yet started (This could be a great goal to walk towards!). It doesn't matter which plan you follow or who you know, this event is open to all and is a great opportunity to meet others with a similar mindset and objective. If you would like more information, please send me an email: carl@weightlosswarriorpodcast.com Thanks to Steve (@its.steveslife on Instagram) for joining me today, as always it was an absolute pleasure speaking to him and I look forward to meeting him in Wales next year!
A government poster warning us "MOST SCHOOLS ARE UNAFFECTED" by lethal crumbling concrete may not offer the reassurance the Department for Education is aiming for. Indeed it was a gift to Labour - whose comms department instantly retorted with "Most swimmers not at risk of sharks". So what has happened to capital spending on schools since the Conservatives came to power? And what on earth is going on inside Number 10?Later, we look at why Birmingham City Council has gone bust.... with our own resident Brummie.Editor: Tom HughesSenior Producer: Gabriel RadusProducer: Laura FitzPatrickPlanning Producer: Alex BarnettSocial Media Editor: Georgia FoxwellVideo Producer: Will Gibson-SmithYou can listen to this episode on Alexa - just say "Alexa, ask Global Player to play The News Agents".The News Agents is a Global Player Original and a Persephonica Production.

Eugh, who DOESN'T love a giant, bitey, scaley thing? It's why we all love Jurassic Park, right? In a boring world without ACTUAL Dragons, it's time we settle for the next best thing: Komodo Dragons - whom, despite being wingless and unable to breathe fire - can still turn your blood cold if they run after you. After dodging an incredible 14 episodes of the podcast, it's high time that Reptiles answered for their asshole crimes. This week, Alice dives in to discuss perhaps the coolest bitey, scaley thing (no shade, Crocs and Gators), as well as Nobel Prize winners, King Kong and beer kegs. So, tune in this week to find out how much of an asshole these giant hunks of meat with teeth can be, straight from the less-teethy mouth of Komodo Dragon keeper and Brummie legend, Adam Radovanovic. Our charity of the week this week is the legendary: Komodo Survival Program - THE organisation working tirelessly to protect these dragons from extinction. Find them at: https://komododragon.org/

This week we hear from Bonnie Kintzer, CEO of Trusted Media Brands - which includes brands like FailArmy, Family Handyman, and Reader's Digest. She tells us about the opportunities she saw to turn around the company when it was facing bankruptcy in 2013, how the business has weathered some of the storms of the past decade, and why she thinks it's vital to focus on where the audiences are regardless of platform algorithms. She also explains why a 're-start-up' mentality helped TMB get ahead. In the news roundup the team debates why it's so difficult to find common ground on discussions of platforms paying publishers directly, and asks if Google not serving news to Canadian consumers will shift the dial on those arguments. Did you know Elon Musk has a Brummie accent?

Hello and welcome to episode 147 of the ACPG podcast. This week we have great and fascinating conversation with Phil Thornally, writer, singer, bass player, producer, engineer. He's done the lot and this is a fantastic chat. A quick scan of the many records Phil Thornalley has worked on, and you'll quickly spot some of the biggest names in popular music, including Bryan Adams, Thompson Twins, The Cure, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, Duran Duran, and even Paul McCartney. Phil co-wrote and produced Natalie Imbruglia's 1997 worldwide smash “Torn,” and has written hits with Pixie Lott (“Mama Do”) and BBMak (“Back Here”). A kind of rock'n'roll Zelig, his name is probably on countless records in your collection, although you probably didn't even know it was him. That bass line on The Cure's “Love Cats”? That's Phil. The haunting and ethereal production on Prefab Sprout's “When Love Breaks Down”? That's Phil too. Now, on his latest offering, Now That I Have Your Attention, Phil Thornalley steps out of The Swamp (his North London studio) to unveil 11 catchy and brand-new original songs (plus three bonus tracks on the CD!) that find him exploring the production stylings pioneered by the Electric Light Orchestra's Brummie boffin, Jeff Lynne. Thank you to Phil and Terry for the interview and their time.
With Quinno living the cowboy life in Dallas, his chair was filled with the former MN United commentator and Brummie savant, Callum Williams. Irish first name, Welsh last name and yet he can tell us with much authority if England are going to win the World Cup. Craic abound.
Energy companies have posted huge profits, but energy bills are still going up. The BBC's Carrie Davies talks through the figures and what's happening to consumer costs. The 22nd Commonwealth Games are getting underway in Birmingham. Adam is joined by athletes Jonnie Peacock and Ama Agbeze (who's also a Brummie) to discuss what makes these Games so special. Today's Newscast was made by Tim Walklate, with Chris Flynn, Alix Pickles and Cordelia Hemming. The technical producers were Emma Crowe and Dave O'Neill. The assistant editor was Sam Bonham

As broadcast September 7, 2021 with plenty of extra craze for your podcast rage. Tonight we marked the 25th anniversary of the horrible shooting in Las Vegas that would eventually take Tupac Shakur's life. There's really not much you can say about the man aside from him being a singular cultural figure, an icon amongst icons, and a man who stayed true to his ethic right until the bitter end. Still hard to take all these years later. Following that, it's Tuesday and that means Danno & especially Prince Paolo are on the indie warpath with their favorite new jawns & audio succulents from the past week, and there were some serious bits of music from the likes of Work Wife, Teenage Priest, Yakul, and sir Was to bump in the process, amongst many other very worthy contenders.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Linda Clifford – Never Gonna StopSir Was – I Need A MinuteAGGE – No Pressure (Little Dragon remix)Runrummer – NightcallerJordan Rakei – UnguardedNRVS LVRS – Far Away (Alton Allen remix)Part II (32:21)Yakul - Wrong WayLYRAS – ParadiseJamie Steck - Roll The DiceFauness - DragonflyChillhum – highspeedFurrows - Grey CitiesPart III (62:16)Mating Ritual - Covered In LoveIzzie Walsh – JimmyTeenage Priest – AnymoreMaida Rose – WithinJerro - Lost For Words feat PanamaT Evann - Falling By The WaysidePart IV (90:44)Warbly Jets – TMIDirty Nice - Giving UpJessicka - I Hear You CallingSister Lucy - DreamWork Wife - Plastic WindowsBay Ledges – Changing
