What a terrible time for us to publish this episode! Yet, here we are! Continuing our Simply THE FEST marathon, Cold Wrecks/Answering Machine artist CRAIG SHAY joins us to discuss Smash Mouth (recorded BEFORE the passing of singer Steve Harwell). Listen in as we awkwardly discuss things that no one wants to talk about since he has since passed away in between the time of recording and the time of publishing, find out why Devin has a bitter taste for “All Star,” and listen in as Craig teaches us the tips of drinking the finer things like Malort, which tastes like an ironing board! In all seriousness, this episode was recorded on August 28th, 2023, and Steve passed on September 4th, 2023 - we didn't know anything about his health, nor did we know it was imminent. Therefore, the Parley curse has struck again. Some of you might be reading this thinking “This is capitalizing on a tragedy,” and you might be right, but also, so does the movie Titanic, and that is one of the highest grossing movies of all time. So clearly, tragedy = money. From the irresistible count-in to the unique song structure and slow build to the song’s climax - I Can’t Seem To Tell is undeniably killer. Craig Shay (Cold Wrecks/Answering Machine/funny on Twitter) joins Cheska to talk about the song’s earlier iteration and how it influenced the final product, early and often forgotten bangers,  which Menzingers songs should/should not  be reimagined as R&B songs and how every Menzingers fan is 38. Period. Craig’s band Cold Wrecks has new music coming soon and gets to play the same cruise as The Menzingers & more at Booze Cruise Festival in Hamburg this summer. Listen to Answering Machine’s new song Cherry Coke now or I will catch you in the CVS parking lot (I like this song a lot). _________________________________ Audio recording, production, editing and artwork by Cheska Colombo of Angry Papa Entertainment Check out Cheska’s other podcast Aint Scene Nothing Yet All external song information derived from the lyrics themselves, Genius.com, Reddit AMAs and various interviews.
