Cherri Rodriguez, Andy Houltberg and Richard Haynes join me to form an Enneagram Nine panel. Our conversation proves quite engaging for four Nines!!! Our panelists discuss the harmonizing energy of the Nine structure that continuously operates at the gut level. While Enneagram Nines appear calm and peaceful on the outside, there is a lot of churning and angst going on beneath the surface. Enneagram 9s are unpretentious and empathetic. Known as peacemakers and mediators, Nines sit at the top of the Enneagram circle and "see" all other eight perspectives. They find themselves unconsciously merging into others' agenda. As Cherri brilliantly states, the task of the Enneagram 9 is to take a front seat in their own life. The panelists share several practical strategies for Nines to be more present and accounted for. Cherri is a nonprofit fundraising coach. Her website is www.fruitfulfundraising.co. Find her on Facebook at Fruitful Fundraising Co and on Instagram @fruitfulfundraisingco. Brent Beardall thinks bankers need to be more comfortable with risk. “We're not out there taking crazy risk, but my point is don't be afraid to fail,” says the president and CEO of WaFd Bank, based in tech-focused Seattle. “If you're going to fail: fail quickly, fail small. That's the two requirements I have, because if you're not failing, you're not trying hard enough.” In the latest episode of the ABA Banking Journal Podcast — sponsored by Alkami — Beardall discusses technology experiments that didn't work, and those that did. He discusses the bank's tech lab subsidiary Archway Software and its combined voice- and phone-based authentication for wire transfers. Beardall discusses WaFd's commercial real estate portfolio, which he notes is majority “stabilized multifamily, which is the safest asset class that we or any bank can make.” Office buildings — the most distressed CRE asset class — account for just 4% of WaFd's portfolio, Beardall says, noting that CRE is a big and diverse sector beyond the office headlines. Finally, Beardall talks about his remarkable personal story of surviving a deadly plane crash in early 2023. “You're flying on a jet airplane to go to the Rose Bowl, and all of a sudden you go from being pretty good to fighting for your life and you realize just how vulnerable you are and how precious life is because it can change in a heartbeat,” he says. “People that I competed with, bankers that I would compete with, they set it all aside and said, “Let's focus on helping each other.' We have a lot more in common than we have in terms of differences, and let's give equal weight to what we have in common and work together for the collective good.”

In this episode, I share the story of how I recently rediscovered my energy sweet spot for my early morning routine. This immediately reminded me that it's been far too long since I've personally conducted an "Energy Audit." The Energy Audit Exercise allows you to evaluate the people, places/environments, things, habits/behaviors, thoughts, and beliefs that either fill you with energy or drain your energy. It is a powerful tool that you can use to gain insights into your own energy levels. Instructions For Doing An Energy Audit. Create a document with two columns. Column 1 = “What FILLS Me With Energy.” Column 2 = “What DRAINS Me of Energy” Make a list of all the people, places, things, habits and thoughts that fill you with energy and then a list of those that drain you of your energy. Pick one energy-draining item and write it down. Consider why you do this energy-draining thing and what benefits it provides. Finally, decide how you could either remove this item from your life to stop the energy drain, or alter it in some way so that it switches to energizing you instead of draining you. Repeat steps 3-5. Going through this process for multiple energy-drains will create an audit that shows you how to maximize your personal energy. Email Me I would love to hear from you.
