Freddie and Joel both just won masters, so you know we're talking about that, but we're also getting into a bunch of other topics. Like how to make money waterskiing, trick skiing scoring/trick values, who we think has the most “on water” time, waterski media and how it compares to wakeboard media, social media/influencers values to brands, onlyfans, and a whole lot more. Plus, the guys rip smelling salts to start the pod, and eat a Malort candy midway through. Almost exactly one year ago, I visited Noon Whistle’s Lombard Brewpub (800 E. Roosevelt) to understand why they were serving cicada-infused Malort. Sure enough, they got me again. Garlic Butterlört has arrived. In the brewery’s promotional copy, it’s described as “bringing big ‘better ingredients, questionable decisions’ energy. Rich, buttery goodness meets roasted garlic and herbs, with that unmistakable bitter kick that says, ‘maybe I do want another slice or just literally anything to get this taste out of my mouth.’ “It’s smooth. It’s garlicky. It’s bold. And yes—it’s the ultimate pizza crust dipper. You’ve had the garlic butter cup... but it's time to grow up little one. Garlic Butterlört is here, and it didn’t come to play. Don't ask for the parm rim.” Obviously, there’s a lot more to talk about when it comes to Noon Whistle after ten years of business, serving both the Naperville and Lombard communities. For this episode, I’m back at Noon Whistle with my spirit animal, Marketing Director Joey Giardiniera, to talk about Noon Whistle’s latest alcoholic chimera and all the other things, specifically: -Noon Whistle's unique beer offerings, including the new collab with the Morton Arboretum. -Connecting with younger demographics as so much of the talk lately is on how 20-somethings aren’t drinking like their elders once did. -Lower ABV: Is it the new battleground? -The amazing food at Noon Whistle, specifically their pizzas. -Events at Noon Whistle: Should I host a music trivia night? ## Looking to transform your home, office, or business into a smart, seamlessly connected space? Recorded on a drunken Memorial Day at the Palm Street Studio. All the Malort is gone and the shit show is all that's left. Porn theaters, a delay in the complicated trivia that Junior is gracious enough to put together for the show and weird new scoring rules. Junior invites everyone to reach into his pockets and ask easy questions to everyone but Phil. Nickelback is the worst, you dig jive turkey?
Recorded in front of a live and lively studio audience at the Palm Street Studio. Junior is ok with second and Phil hates to lose. We accept a new bowling challenge that should be fun. Everyone seems to be on a mission to make the bottle of Malort their bitch. We call the Blue, thanks Alyssa for always taking the time to chat with us. Urban dictionary, Junior prematurely wants out of this episode, and Malort takes the wheel. Tune in next time for a continuation and deepening of the shit show.
In Verbundenheit,Veit
Recorded on Memorial Day, in the Palm Street Studio. Jobu gets some rum, not Malort, extra inning baseball now sucks in MLB, and artificial fruit flavors that drive us nuts. GHC has his hand full with his family and he finally goes out fishing with Phil. JTK needs a new plate and is riding dirty. The Grumpy Griller shows up mid episode. Tires for the Mini Cooper are hard to find. Vinny is the man! The worldwide charts for the podcast. A cum rag story.
Recorded on a Malort filled Monday night at the Palm Street Studio. Burger challenges, the future, a new game from Junior, and absolute bedlam, the studio might be burning down. Adam wins and the rest of the crew protests everything about it. Malort has turned us all against one another and helps stave of syphilis. A wonderful mashup we love. Junior's ball gets busted.
Recorded on a Monday, at the Palm Street Studio. The wrong hole award, high school officiating isn't easy...much respect, and an Adam song. A gummy soaked in Malort is consumed. St. Louis, you are up next for the Tigers to prey upon. Kyle can eat and The Grumpy Griller's record in the burrito challenge is safe. Bad Kyle sold the limo? More options for the Bomb Burger challenge.
Recorded on a Monday from the Palm Street Studio. A trip to Ohio, beer, ham radio, and securing the holy grail when it comes to terrible liquors. Junior loves Malort so much, he is still burping it up the day after. The taste may not be hard to explain but it sure lingers. Bowling is finally over...Phil is ready to enjoy his summer. Some new AI songs about someone near and dear to the podcast's heart, you'll do just fine Rusty!

Join Uncle Brad and Jules as they brave the notoriously face-contorting Malort. Listen as these courageous libation explorers transform Chicago's favorite liquid punishment into surprisingly palatable cocktails, including Uncle Brad's recreation of the Swedish Seed that might actually make you want to drink Malort (trust him on this one, it's like Root Beer for grown-ups). Discover the twisted history of this infamous spirit, from its Swedish origins to its Chicago cult status, and learn how this beverage—described by critics as tasting like "grapefruit rind steeped in gasoline"—became both a beloved cultural touchstone and the city's favorite practical joke on unsuspecting tourists. We'll track Malort's journey from immigrant staple to near extinction, and its phoenix-like revival in the 2010s that cemented its status as Chicago's most masochistic rite of passage. Whether you're a Malort veteran with the facial scars to prove it or a curious newcomer wondering "how bad could it really be?" (spoiler: bad), this episode promises equal parts history lesson and liquid courage. Listen in and discover why sometimes, the worst-tasting traditions are the ones we cherish most. Swedish Seed Glass: Coupe Garnish: Orange peel Directions & Ingredients In shaker add: 1.0 oz Malort 1.0 oz Root liqueur 1 egg white 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice 1.5 oz brown sugar honey syrup 2 dash angostura Dry Shake for 30 seconds Add ice and shake for 20 seconds more Double Strain into coupe Add orange peel garnish TIP: Question form Austin Elliot Strickland – Which is better, syrups or liqueurs? Recorded on a Sunday night with tequila at The Palm Street Studio. Tequila and Malort...oh my. We need to get a bottle, does anyone have one they could donate a couple shots to the podcast? We call The Blue Water Sports Bar and Grill to talk to the crew. The Kentucky Derby, betting, breeding, odds, and product placement, it's all big money. Mother's Day is nearly here, be sure to treat all the moms in your life. Tuscolapalooza has been pretty wild in the past.
Steve King and Johnnie Putman are back for tons of music, Malort and motor related goodness! Our first guest is Monica Eng, Author and Axios reporter with some real reporting on the Real ID, Chicago’s impending curfew law after an influx of late night “teen takeovers” and the obligatory food jones, if you consider Malort […]
Comedian Victoria Flynn shares some stories at our live show about all the times she probably should have been kidnapped while drinking. Victoria joins CJ and Sean in the studio and shares what it was like to attend college in Montreal along with some other kidnapping-inducing drinking stories. CJ and Sean then share stories on the only two kinds of kidnappings that are objectively funny: men who stage a fake kidnapping to stay out later and men who drunkenly steal a college mascot. Former Blackout Diaries sweetheart and Jeppeson's Malort marketing guru Sam Mechling also tells a story about being kidnapped during the Kentucky Derby and having to be ransomed for the loose change his friends had.

So Nicole and Dan go through the list of the new folks and share some thoughts on who they thought was already in, what made someone get in this time and just general thoughts on their music. Neither has actually been to the museum so it might be time for a SSP road trip! Speaking of award shows, the Oscars were in the news this week with a new rule for academy voters. The new rule is that folks have to watch all the moves before voting. HOW WAS THIS NOT ALREADY A RULE?! The team chats about the “new” rule and the Oscars in general. And finally, the great Chicago liquor that is Malort announced a new item on Monday, hard candy! We talk about the brand, their marketing team and the experience that is Malort. We also reminisce about some times we had on the radio, eating things that we will never forget. All of this and more in this week's episode. Thanks again for joining us, we will see you next week! Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois is not your average progressive. He is a billionaire with an activist upbringing, in a family that prioritized advocating for the people who need it most. MSNBC's Jen Psaki wanted to get a sense of his approach to governing in this second Trump term and why priorities like raising the minimum wage and ending his state's grocery tax are front of mind for him. They also talk about the reality of a rigged system and the dangerous precedent set when an unelected citizen like Elon Musk is running much of our government. And the Governor is not shy about reminding Democrats to revive a core principle of making things just a little bit easier for everyday Americans.Want to listen to this show without ads? Spend some time in the green room with us before our recording of Mission: Impossible - II.
Real talk: there are times when the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 feels like it might have just been yesterday, especially since many school systems are still dealing with its after effects. In other moments, those days of lockdowns, remote teaching, and having to PIVOT constantly feel like a fever dream. But some things have endured that trying time - including a silly little game we invented (or reinvented): Milk, Margarita, Malort. Five years ago, we used that game to consider and discuss instructional practices, procedures, and ideas in education that we hoped and didn't want to stick around. Secondly, that game allowed us to forge a friendship with the incredibly talented Kim Darche. Join us as we invite her back to reflect on this episode and catch up. Stay tuned!

What makes a cider a cider? Explore the fruits and chaos-inspired ingredients behind ERIS' biggest hits in this cider science deep dive. Michelle Foik, co-owner of ERIS Brewery and Cider House, shares her journey to opening her historic establishment before delving into the art and science of cidering. She starts by discussing how her career took her from Goose Island Brewery and Revolution Brewing to opening the first female-owned brewery and cider house in Illinois in a historic Masonic temple. She also discusses the history of cider in Chicago and in the United States, the cultural revival of cider post-Prohibition, and how cider is actually made. After the beer break, Michelle delves into how Amburana barrels impart a variety of spice flavors into beverages, why beer brewers aren't allowed to make cider, and how ERIS combines ciders and beers to make unique snakebites. She also shares the incredible story behind their GABF award-winning hazy IPA Foiken Haze, the unique characteristics of their Pepper Jam cider, and their barrel-aged Malort cider. The Reset team has gone through our year of conversations and hand-selected our personal faves to share with you before 2024 wraps up. In September, Reset sat down with writer Josh Noel to talk about his book, Malort: The Redemption of a Revered and Reviled Spirit. His book asks how a spirit that “tastes like bandaids” and has been the butt of many jokes survive generations and go from a lone bottle collecting dust in the back of bars to becoming an infamous Chicago must-try experience? This conversation has been lightly edited for clarity. You can find the original interview here: New book chronicles the unlikely staying power of Jeppson's Malört (September 5, 2024). We spoke with Mike Kinsella about Will Ferrell at Equinox, a podcaster's negroni, a recap of the crazy emo fest they just played in Las Vegas, Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams, Urbana, Illinois might be the only place in America where you can get any work done, the process of buying the house from their much-memed album cover, Cap'n Jazz, wearing shorts on stage, the number of times he goes to the grocery store per week, when a fan wants to make your music about them, his philosophy on hoops, tennis, and loving sports in general, what he'd like to do for the third act of his life, zen and the art of chopping vegetables, and his thoughts on Malort, and Fernet, respectively. twitter.com/donetodeath twitter.com/themjeans howlonggone.com instagram.com/americfootball twitter.com/mybandowen Learn more about your ad choices. John is joined by The Daily Show's Jordan Klepper to discuss the return of Jon Stewart to the show, the challenges of covering the RNC and DNC live, and his signature forays into the dark, savage, achingly comical heart of the MAGA-sphere at Donald Trump's rallies. The two pals—who worked together when John dragooned Jordan into guest hosting his Showtime series The Circus—also debate the merits of Chicago's iconic but disgusting local liqueur Malort (and even more iconic and appalling style of deep dish pizza), whether Klepper has a crush on former Estonian prime minister Kaja Kallas, and his resemblance to Gregor Samsa, the man-turned-cockroach protagonist in Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis.
