In this episode of the STFM Podcast, Dennis Baker, PhD, creator of the ARCH Model of feedback, shows us how we can create a learning environment in which the word “feedback” does not elicit instant dread in the learner. In a congenial conversation with our host, he describes each part of the ARCH model, showing us not only how we can use it in our practice, but also demonstrating how this feedback model can guide learners into a habit of intentional self-reflection, a practice they can then use throughout the rest of their career.Hosted by Saria Saccocio, MD, MHA, FAAFPCopyright © Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, 2024Resources:ARCH: A Guidance Model for Providing Effective Feedback to Learners - STFM Education ColumnUsing the ARCH Feedback Model - STFM Resource LibraryJanuary 2023 #MedEd Pearls: The ARCH Model for Providing Effective Feedback - Harvard Macy InstituteGuest Bio:Dennis Baker, PhD, is an Emeritus Professor of Family Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine. After receiving his doctorate in education at the University of Florida in 1976, Dennis began his medical education at a new College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University where he directed the student testing center and provided teaching skills training to new faculty, most of whom had never taught. In that environment he learned that helping faculty enhance their teaching skills required listening to faculty and that building positive and personal relationships with them are key elements of the faculty development process. Dennis went on to hold faculty development and administrative positions in three Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. Taking the position as Assistant Dean for Faculty Development at the newly created Florida State University College of Medicine provided Dennis the opportunity to fully engage in his passion of helping those who teach medical students and residents to enhance their educational skills via the faculty development process. His faculty development program at Florida State was cited as a strength by the LCME in 2011, as follows: The College of Medicine should be commended for an impressive faculty development program, particularly for the diverse nature of the offerings and the sheer volume of effort expended to support the development of faculty on an ongoing basis. Dennis is a “long-time” active STFM member and considers his experiences in STFM to be a guiding influence and highlight of his career in medical education.Link:stfm.org/stfmpodcast02202

Hi everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. This week's guest is Dennis Baker, who first came to my attention toward the beginning of the pandemic in the spring of 2020. At that time, I noticed someone on a Twitter account who began to stream video of Phish shows throughout their history. Sort of like a do it yourself version of Dinner and a Movie. The big difference is that Dennis was streaming these videos every single night. After watching a few of Dennis' videos, in addition to the regular Dinner and a Movie shows, it dawned on me that even though I'd been listening to Phish for 25 years, I'd been missing out on an entire perspective of the band. So many shows that I love and hold close to my heart have only existed in my mind's eye. I'd never seen what shows from 1996 or 1991, or festivals before IT, looked like. Seeing these shows was almost like hearing the show for the first time all over again, and I have Dennis to thank for that opportunity. For today's episode, Dennis picked November 27, 1998 from the Worcester Centrum. Better known as “The Wipeout Show,” it deserves comparison with the Tinley Park 1993 Antelope show, the February Roxy show from 1993, and the Tweezer Led Zeppelin show from Atlantic City in 2010, as Wipeout weaves in and out of the 2nd set, punctuating outstanding performances of fan favorites. It was also a hometown show for Dennis, with the crowd being made up of long time New England Phish fans, adding to the heartfelt feeling. So let's join Dave to hear about Phish videos, what makes Phish in '96 and '98 so special, and November 27, 1998 at the Worcester Centrum.
I called to talk to the boys. this was after I lost custody of the boys. I played the recording of my older son describing his father Carl Edwards Anthony an electrical engineer employed at Hewlett Packard in Spring Texas. Carl Edward Anthony is currently denying me Visitation because he would rather abuse our children and choke her kids to death then allow me to have a relationship with them. Carl Edward Anthony works with Nora daily, Joe shanklin, Dennis Baker, and Mark Hokanson at Hewlett-Packard. I am advocating for the safety of my children so people know I try to get it addressed, when Carl Edwards Anthony decides to put his hands around her boys next and choke them to death. Ohio – particularly Cleveland – is central to the story of rock music. Blues-rock, folk-rock, heavy metal thunder, whacked-out experimental stuff made by idiosyncratic creators following wild whims: Ohio musical history has all of it. It’s a home of the uncooperative, the rebellious, the irrepressibly energetic, and the torchbearers of rock’s tradition of recalcitrance and marvelous mischief. John “Charlie” Templeman of Jib Machine Records knows all about that tradition because he’s a part of it. He’s become one of the most recognizable faces in the Cleveland underground – a label owner who cares deeply about the musicians on his roster and the future of music, both live and recorded, in Ohio and beyond. He’s a champion of the underdog and a friend to dreamers and rockers of all kinds, a guardian of a safe harbor for misfits. Through Jib Machine, he’s raising an entire region’s profile, calling attention to a corner of the country loaded with talent, but, too often, overlooked by the tastemakers on the coasts. Since its inception in 2004, Jib Machine has released more than sixty records, many of which were made by unforgettable Cleveland characters. Templeman and Jib Machine have kept their ears to the clubs and done their best to boost contemporary Ohio rock’s signal. But they’ve never forgotten their roots or the roots of the local sound, and they’ve reissued music by area legends and assisted the re-formation of beloved, fondly remembered groups. Slammin’ Gladys, for instance, brought their distinctive amalgam of hard rock, funk, blues, and glam-metal out of a decades-long hibernation to cut a new album for Jib Machine. It’s doubtful that anybody but Templeman could have turned that trick. Hostile Omish, one of the longest-running and most respected bands in Cleveland punk, have made Jib Machine their home for fifteen years. And whether solo, with his guitar army or the Blindside Blues Band, electrifying guitarist Michael Onesko delivers his style of protean blues to the label. These artists possess a quality that Templeman loves: audacity. It’s a common thread that runs straight through the Jib Machine roster, present in the forthright songs of local legend Eli “Guitarman” Fletcher, the outspoken political punk and molten metal of Gwazi, the bedrock gospel of Philomena Gales, the adventurous, hallucinatory psychedelia of Sweden’s Mouth Of Clay (Jib’s first European artist), the relentless, funky, thoroughly unclassifiable Hot Ham & Cheese, and many other artists who proudly fly the Jib Machine banner. None of this music is shy – it’s bold sounds made for bold listeners – Ohioans and the many millions of rockers worldwide who are Ohioans at heart. As Templeman continues to expand Jib Machine’s reach, he has shaken hands with like-minded independent ventures: Jib Machine distributes records by Akarma, Shroom Angel, DSI and other imprints. He’s also the founder of 13 Recordings, a production operation that specializes in sonic ferocity. Some of the Jib Machine catalog’s best-known titles were cut by 13 Recordings, but others availed themselves of the local resource, too. And that’s Templeman, and Jib Machine: always ready to help boost area music, always on the lookout for ways to amplify the voices of his artists, steadily supplying the world with some genuine heartland electricity. A historic roster is listed below… Active Roster Hot Ham & Cheese (on label since 2005) Hostile Omish (on label since 2006) Eli “Guitarman” Fletcher (on label since 2012) Gwazi (on label since 2015) Brad Demiter (on label since 2015) Dennis Baker (on label since 2016) 9E$V$ (on label since 2016) Philomena Gales (on label since 2016) Mike Onesko (BLU-K, The Kwik, Blindside Blues Band, Guitar Army…on label since 2017) Dave Brooks (on label since 2018) Slammin’ Gladys (on label since 2018) Dizzy Dizzy MK II (on label since 2019) David Curtis Band (on label since 2019) Mouth of Clay (on label since 2020) Darkening Skies (on label since 2020) Jib Alumni Johnny Mohawk and the Assassins (signed in 2005 but now defunct) “Slowhand” Jack Labgold (signed 2010; passed away in 2015) 7th Day Creeps (signed 2010 but now defunct) Pat Zelenka (long-time friend of Jib… he’s currently signed to Red Ridge Entertainment out of Nashville) Side projects that have releases The Drug Fux Poor Ass Leon J TEMP 13 Pontius Pilot Alcoholic Spok

Dennis Baker is an accomplished marketer and entrepreneur. His latest venture is called POLIS Assist. For the last two years, he and his team have been locating every parking space in Los Angeles County and putting them into an app. Yes, it's true, need a space, use POLIS to find one. Dennis freely gives of his time and extensive expertise to the non-profit community in Santa Barbara to help them with messaging, strategic positioning, branding, and crisis communications. He has a deep background in marketing and has focused that energy into bringing the POLIS app to the millions of drivers in Los Angeles. While developing POLIS he and the team have collected parking information on over 500,000 blocks. Dennis talked about one day where he looked at the eight signs in front of a potential parking spot and was confused. Some of the signs said what day he could and could not park, what type of plate he had to have, and other regulations governing the single space. He was maddened by it and decided to fix the problem. The only obstacle was, there was no central database for street parking, which meant his team had to photograph every street sign on those 500,000 blocks. The volume of street information turned into a big data challenge and opportunity. Dennis says that POLIS is the Waze for Parking. We appreciate the mammoth effort that has gone into and will continue to go into POLIS. We also thank him for his support of the Santa Barbara Non-Profit Community and his frequent attendance at TEDxSantaBarbara events.

"The Baker's Dozen" is a holiday story from the Dutch settlers of upstate New York, about a stubborn baker who learns an invaluable lesson about generosity. The story commemorates St. Nicholas Day (Dec. 6) a day to honor a legendary figure who also figures prominently in another holiday later in the month. Many people would be surprised to learn that St. Nicholas was a real person; and they'd be even more surprised to learn where he came from. He lived in the Fourth Century on the island of Lyra, which was then owned by Greece but later became part of Turkey. He was a rather small fellow who apparently had a broken nose. About a thousand years ago, his bones were smuggled to Italy to protect them from invaders, and they've been kept there ever since. But just recently, the Turkish government requested that Italy send them back so they can be put to rest in the place where he was born. Nicholas was well known for his generosity, which included the habit of leaving coins in people's shoes - thus the tradition of gift-giving in December. Many legends arose around him, and his fame spread to other countries. Among the Dutch, he became known as Sinterklass, which later became the English Santa Claus, and the legends about him blended with traditions from Norse mythology, including the use of reindeer. Dutch settlers in America celebrated St. Nicholas Day by eating cookies shaped like him. We come to you from Winston-Salem NC, after spending October enjoying the beautiful foliage and the haunting season in Massachusetts, and sending time with our son Zephyr in Rhode Island. And we tell you about our most recent ziplining adventure and our pilgrimage to Mayberry.
