This five-week series is not a typical “how to have a perfect Christian family” talk. It's raw, real, and multi-generational. Pastor and his wife will co-lead, joined on stage by all four of their children (including two married adult children). The goal is to create an honest conversation about the ecosystem and culture of family life — the invisible atmosphere we create in our homes, the boundaries we set (or don't), and the legacy we're actually passing on. Expect laughter, tears, vulnerability, and practical wisdom. The series will feel like a family dinner table conversation — only louder and with all of you watching.
What does it actually take to build a church that grows and sends? In this episode of Breaking Barriers, we sit down with Brian Frye from the North American Mission Board (NAMB) during a live NAMB event — an all-access experience that brought 170 leaders from 50 churches across the country. We unpack the 5 cultural pillars behind Mercy Hill's sending and multiplication strategy, why church growth and church planting must go hand in hand, how to overcome "growth guilt" that's holding your church back, what it means to build a sending culture from day one, and how to structure your staff around a multiplication flywheel.https://www.namb.net/

What Does Your Legacy Really Mean? When you hear the word legacy, what comes to mind? A name on a building? A foundation created after you're gone? Or something far simpler — the way you show up every day and the impact you quietly leave behind? I sat down with Kari Alterman, founder of Good Name Advisors, to explore how each of us can shape our legacy with intention — starting now, not someday. Kari helps individuals and families clarify their values, elevate their giving, and preserve their good name through thoughtful, lasting philanthropy. What struck me most in our conversation is that legacy isn't about wealth or waiting until the end of life. It's about how you treat people, where you choose to give, and how you align your actions with your values today. My Take Too many people wait to think about their legacy. They assume it starts with money or ends with a big gesture. Kari reframed this for us: legacy is built moment by moment — through kindness, intention, and generosity that matches who you are. Whether you give $5,000, $50, or just your time, what matters most is purpose and INTENT.

Find Deep Reading lists at phoebe.substack.com - Sandeep Salter is a friend who is like family to me — we met on the first day of secondary school in London and I spent a considerable chunk of my teenage years in her family home. She has lived in New York since her university days, and her CV is a Google Map of the most distinctive independent businesses in the city: Printed Matter, McNally Jackson, Goods for the Study, Picture Room, and now Salter House — the family brand she runs with her husband Carson, which is best known for the cotton nightdresses that inspired a thousand imitators. Working for Food That Lasts Why are you really seeking Jesus? In Episode 161 of 2 Minute Disciple, we meditate on John 6:22–29, where the crowds search diligently for Jesus after He miraculously fed thousands with a few loaves and fish. At first glance, their pursuit seems admirable. They cross the lake looking for Him. They are determined, persistent, and eager to find Him. But Jesus sees deeper than their actions. He lovingly exposes what is driving them: they are following Him because He fed them, not because they understood who He truly was. The crowd wanted another meal. Jesus wanted to offer them something far greater. He redirects their attention from temporary needs to eternal realities, telling them not to spend their lives chasing food that perishes but to seek the food that endures to eternal life. When they ask what God requires of them, Jesus gives one of the most surprising answers in all of Scripture: “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.” Before service comes trust. Before obedience comes faith. Before doing comes believing. Jesus reminds us that Christianity is not primarily about performing for God. It begins with trusting Him. This passage invites us to examine our motives and ask whether we are seeking Jesus Himself—or merely the things we hope He will provide. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why Jesus challenged the motives of the crowd • The difference between seeking God's gifts and seeking God Himself • What Jesus means by “food that endures to eternal life” • Why belief is the foundation of the Christian life • A practical exercise for examining your spiritual hunger Scripture John 6:22–29 (NLT)
What is the difference between having money saved and actually having income you can depend on in retirement? For most people, nobody has ever answered that question clearly.Mark Kollar has spent 35 years answering it. He started his career on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade watching first-hand how markets can be manipulated and how quickly a lifetime of savings can disappear when someone does not know what they do not know. The experience that drove all of it started much earlier, in second grade, when he watched bad advice, failed estate planning, and a devastating health event strip his father of everything he had built. In this episode, Mark and Dwight cover:- Why accumulation and income distribution are completely different retirement disciplines- The red money versus green money framework and how to think about risk at different life stages- The four tax baskets and why how you draw down your savings is as important as how much you saved- Black swan events, excess fees, ego, and the emotional decisions that quietly derail well-funded retirements- What a fiduciary standard means versus a suitability standard, and why it matters who you choose- Why the wealthiest clients Mark works with all share one habit: multiple advisorsMark is the owner of Kollar Wealth Advisors, a registered investment advisory firm, a certified senior advisor, a certified estate planning professional, and the author of The Retirement Navigator. Explore the "middle" phase of intellectual property protection. The period between filing and final protection is a crucial phase where strategy, negotiation, and risk management take shape. Using pop culture references ranging from Quentin Tarantino films to Willy Wonka and Jurassic Park, hosts Michael Snyder and Joseph Gushe connect famous middle acts in entertainment to the middle stages of the patent, trademark, trade secret, and copyright processes. This episode of IP Goes Pop!® breaks down: What "patent pending" actually means from publication to examination How the patent examination process can strengthen a patent How the "middle" for trade secrets effectively becomes the entire lifecycle of protection The importance of preserving trade secret rights via NDAs, restricted access, and confidentiality measures Common law trademark rights versus federal registration Trademark examination process and USPTO requirements The crossovers between copyright process "middle" and trademarks Along the way, the hosts question whether Willy Wonka's factory tours would survive modern confidentiality practices and whether Jurassic Park had one of the least effective trade secret protection programs in movie history. Whether you are protecting technology, building a brand, or managing confidential business information, this episode offers a practical look at the "middle" phase of IP protection where rights are often shaped, tested, and strengthened the most. Build your life in dependence upon God's blessing. Preacher: Matt Ecton
Many Christians know they should read the Bible and should study the Word of God. Scriptures are not merely helpful literature or religious advice. Scriptures are God-breathed, profitable for teaching, correction, reproof, and training in righteousness. The Bible reveals who God is, teaches us how to live, corrects us when we wander, strengthens us in righteousness, gives encouragement and hope, and lights the path before us. God's Word is not temporary or outdated, it endures forever. All Scripture points us to Jesus. God spoke through the prophets, through Scripture, and ultimately through His Son, who is the exact representation of God's nature. If we want to know God, understand His will, and walk faithfully, we must treasure, study, remember, and obey His Word. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path, and the testimony that leads us to Christ. Sermon Notes 2 Timothy 3:16 2 Peter 3:14 - 16 It is God breathed Paul's writings are Scripture 1 Peter 1:24 & 25 Lasts forever 1 Peter 2:1 – 3 Long for it Psalm 119:9 -19 Helps to keep it and never forget it Psalm 119:105 It is a light to our way Romans 15:4 Gives hope and encouragement Hebrews 1:1 – 3 God spoke through Jesus who is God

Friendship is hard sometimes. Making friends can feel awkward, and keeping them can be a challenge in some seasons. That's why I've invited my friend Bailey Hurley on the podcast today for an honest conversation about loneliness, friendship, and what it looks like to cultivate meaningful relationships as adults. We talk about why so many women feel disconnected despite being more connected than ever, the barriers that often keep us stuck in surface-level relationships, and how we can take intentional steps toward building friendships that are rooted, life-giving, and lasting.Bailey shares practical wisdom for women who want deeper friendships but don't know where to begin, as well as encouragement for those who feel weary from always being the one to reach out. We also discuss how friendship, like anything worth growing, requires patience, intentionality, and trust in the process. If you've been feeling lonely, unseen, or discouraged in your friendships, I hope this conversation reminds you that you're not the only one. Friendship isn't something we master overnight. It's cultivated slowly, season by season, one intentional step at a time.Wherever you find yourself today, I pray this conversation encourages you to keep showing up. Have you ever stopped to consider what kind of family you're building? In this special conversation, my longtime friend Sherri Seligson and I look back on the years we spent raising and homeschooling our children together and share some of the lessons that matter even more now that our children are grown. It's easy to get caught up in academics, activities, and keeping up with everyone else. But looking back, some of the most important decisions we made had nothing to do with achievement and everything to do with relationships. In this episode, we talk about why sibling friendships matter more than many parents realize, how shared family experiences help create lasting bonds, and why resisting the pressure to overschedule your children may be one of the best gifts you can give your family. This isn't a conversation about perfect parenting. It's a conversation between two friends reflecting on what helped build connection, strengthen relationships, and create a family culture that lasts long after the school years are over. See what the team at The Successful Bookkeeper has on right now → Sammy Mattingly and Fred Ott are back for the finale of their two-part conversation with host Michael Palmer. Where Part 1 covered the leap into bookkeeping entrepreneurship, Part 2 gets into the gritty, practical work of making a young firm sustainable — documenting processes, surviving the first real growth wave, hiring employee number one, and deciding what kind of business they actually want to build. Chapters [00:00] Introduction and Episode Recap [01:18] What Makes This Partnership Work [04:30] Growth Wave Exposes System Gaps [07:00] Hiring the First Employee [09:00] Fixing Onboarding the Right Way [12:00] Joining Pure Bookkeeping and Freedom Gateway [15:30] Walls Hit and Lessons Learned [18:30] Long-Term Vision and the Journey [21:30] The 'How to Make a Few Thousand Dollars' Podcast The Partnership Advantage One of the quieter themes running through this episode is just how much the partnership itself has been a growth tool. Sammy puts it plainly: "Fred is the only one of my friends that I could do this with — and it's mostly down to that accountability piece and the amount of work that each of us is going to put into this." For bookkeepers considering a partner arrangement, this episode is a useful reality check on what makes it work — shared drive, mutual trust, and complementary skill sets — and what makes it hard. When Clients Arrive Faster Than Your Systems The real test of any process is live clients. Sammy and Fred thought their systems were solid after months of heavy networking. Then the referrals started rolling in, and the cracks showed fast. "We quickly realized our systems and our processes are not what we need to be able to support the growth that we have now and that we want in the future," Fred says. Their response was to pull back from networking temporarily, sit down together, and map out standard operating procedures from scratch — building workflows, identifying automation opportunities, and stress-testing everything against real client volume. Onboarding: Break It, Fix It, Repeat Onboarding was the first thing to crack under pressure. Rather than patching it on the fly, Sammy and Fred blocked a Saturday, mapped every pain point, and rebuilt it. When the next wave of clients came through a month later, the process was smooth — but it surfaced a new set of smaller issues. "There's always something rolling onto the pocket of like, okay, here's an issue with our process," Sammy says. "Now we need to set aside time to work together to map out how to fix that and how to implement it." That cycle of deliberate improvement is now a permanent feature of how they run the business. Pure Bookkeeping and the Freedom Gateway Sammy credits early podcast listening for pointing him toward Pure Bookkeeping, and describes the decision to join as straightforward once the need for a real system became obvious. What stood out most was the access to experienced guidance: "Having an hour with Lisa Campbell a week, someone who's done it, who's built a very successful firm — she was great in just helping us learn and develop and how to work on the business." They also appreciated that the system is customizable — their Pure and Pixie setup reflects their firm, not a template. Building Toward Something (Without Telling Everyone What It Is) When Michael asks about the long-term vision, neither Sammy nor Fred throws out a revenue number — and Michael approves. Fred frames it well: "Like we want to grow and do all these things, but ultimately the day-to-day — we want the day-to-day to be enjoyable. We like challenging ourselves, we're curious people, and we like learning." They're also currently working through Traction by Gino Wickman and have launched their own podcast, How to Make a Few Thousand Dollars, which earned an early shoutout from the entrepreneur who inspired the name. Friends since high school, they made the jump from W-2 employment to entrepreneurship together and are now navigating their first year of real scale — with their first employee, a growing client roster, and a podcast of their own. About the hostMichael PalmerMichael Palmer is the host of The Successful Bookkeeper podcast and co-founder of Pure Bookkeeping and The Successful Bookkeeper. He started this work because of his father — a brilliant electrical contractor who worked twice as hard as he should have had to, because nobody on the financial side was in his corner. That gap is what The Successful Bookkeeper exists to close. His view: bookkeepers are the most undervalued force in small business — and every bookkeeper who builds a real business changes two families: theirs, and their clients'.

What if the label meant to mock you becomes the one that marks you for greatness? The early Christians were first called that name as an insult, but they wore it like a crown. What labels are you letting define you that God wants to reorder? Your identity is not what you lost, what you did, or what they called you. If you belong to Christ, that changes everything. What would shift in your life if child of God became your first label? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. "About 18 months in, according to research, that a lot of the thrill starts to fade a little and it turns into what I call marriage or relationship incorporated." Long-term relationships don't fail because people stop loving each other. They often fade because couples stop intentionally creating connection, excitement, and emotional closeness. Real happiness cannot depend entirely on another person. Strong relationships are built through communication, appreciation, sensual connection, and consistent effort. The episode explores how couples slowly drift into routines, how "relationship incorporated" replaces romance, and why intimacy, thrill, and sensuality must all be nurtured intentionally. Dr. Cheryl Fraser explains why the "soulmate myth" can quietly damage relationships by making people believe their partner is responsible for their happiness. Cheryl shares her "three keys to passion" framework: intimacy, thrill, and sensuality. She also discusses the emotional and physical importance of touch, affection, sexuality, and vulnerability, while emphasizing that couples can rebuild connection at any stage of life. Cheryl is a psychologist, Buddhist practitioner, relationship expert, speaker, and author of the book Buddha's Bedroom. She is known for combining modern relationship psychology with Buddhist wisdom and has spent decades helping couples strengthen emotional and sensual connection through her teaching programs and workshops. What are students and children actually learning from us? It may not be our sermons. It may not be our advice. It might simply be the way we live. In this episode of Youth Worker On Fire, Doug Edwards shares a simple but powerful story from dinner with his grandchildren and a reminder that faith is often caught before it is taught. After inviting his family to pray over a meal, Doug watched something unexpected happen: His grandchildren stepped forward and wanted to pray. Not because they were asked. Not because they were prepared. But because prayer had become natural to them. That moment became a powerful reminder: Students and children are watching us more closely than we realize.

This week, I'm joined by Kat Collings - Editor-In-Chief and newly appointed VP of Who What Wear - for a fun conversation about fashion, career longevity, motherhood, trend fatigue, and what personal style actually means in the age of the algorithm. Kat shares her journey from intern to Editor-in-Chief, what it's really like working behind the scenes in fashion media, and why staying power matters more than chasing the next thing. We get into the evolution of fashion over the last 20+ years, the pressure to stay relevant online, and why a feature in Who What Wear will actually get you sales. We also get into the emotional side of style, how motherhood changes your relationship to getting dressed, the difference between trends and taste, and the question Kat now asks herself before buying anything: "If you removed the logo from this piece, would I still love it as much?" Plus: low-rise jeans, fashion pet peves, the return of Y2K, why we need to let go of fashion rules, and the difference between being a hoarder and being an archivist.
