The Georgia state Senate is actively pursuing reform or repeal of the state's certificate of need law (CON), which governs hospitals and healthcare services. A newly created Senate study committee will begin meeting in June to explore ways to reform the law. Georgia's CON law requires applicants to demonstrate the need for new medical facilities or services in a community. The push for reform or abolition of CON came through bills introduced by Senate Republicans, but they did not pass in the House. Advocates argue that eliminating CON would improve access to healthcare, while opponents express concerns about the impact on rural communities and the concentration of hospitals in wealthier areas. On this episode of the Oilfield 360 podcast, David de Roode is joined by his special co-host Jim Wicklund, and David's special guest: author, philosopher and pragmatist, Alex Epstein. This is a unique conversation as it takes place in the air traversing from Jackson, Mississippi to Midland, Texas. Why you might ask? David had agreed to support previous podcast guest and CEO of Innovex, Adam Anderson and his fossil fueled event to raise awareness about all of the good things the oil and gas industry does for our country and the world and how its use has allowed us to flourish and survive an otherwise harsh climate and improve our quality of life in modern times as we know it as well as raise money for Oil Patch Kids. To make Adam's event a success, he needed to find a way to get Alex from the campus of Mississippi State University where he was speaking earlier that day to Midland to attend for a fireside chat with Adam as part of the fossil fueled mini conference. David agreed to get Alex from Jackson to Midland to support Adam and Oil Patch Kids, and Alex agreed to have a conversation with David and Jim en route. The conversation is fantastic in our opinion and a testament to the quality of thoughtfulness and thinking Alex possesses on the topics of human flourishing, climate survivability and the necessity of a strong oil and gas industry. The conversation will make you think and leave you wanting for more. For more, we point you to www.energytalkingpoints.com

In this episode I got to sit down with Savannah Turner from Madison, MS and an upcoming senior at Mississippi State University. I've hired Savannah for the summer (hopefully she'll stay with me during her season year) and thrown a ton of things at her, but here we are! We started out by talking about where she's from and how we met. We talked about her job with me throughout this summer and all the things she has learned even in the first week. We also talked about playing soccer since she was a kid and playing at the collegiate level. She played at Holmes Community College for a year and a half then transferred to Mississippi State to just be a student. She told me about being a student at a SEC school and the difficulties people face throughout the semesters. We talked about being transferees, and some of the things we had to learn and adapt to during that time period. She told me about some of her connections she made through junior college, and we talked about the connections she is looking forward to making. She told me about her thoughts on the first week of work with LB, and what she is looking forward to this summer. And of course, we wrapped up with some advice. I'm so thankful for the friendship I've developed with Savannah, and I'm so excited for all the incredible things she is going to do with her life. I can't wait to see how much she grows just this summer & hope that I'm the best influence, teacher, role model, and everything else in between. @savvannahturnerThanks for listening to a #TuesdayTalkwithLB @lb_laurenbrady Thanks to my sponsors @southern_prairie_outfitters @rigemright@campbells_hillside_kennels@huck.outdoors

Whether we realize it or not, we are always telling stories. On a first date or job interview, at a sales presentation or therapy appointment, with family or friends, we are constantly narrating events and interpreting emotions and actions. In this compelling book, storyteller extraordinaire Matthew Dicks presents wonderfully straightforward and engaging tips and techniques for constructing, telling, and polishing stories that will hold the attention of your audience (no matter how big or small). He shows that anyone can learn to be an appealing storyteller, that everyone has something “storyworthy” to express, and, perhaps most important, that the act of creating and telling a tale is a powerful way of understanding and enhancing your own life.Dave's Affiliate Link - Support our show by clicking the link belowUS Audible LinkCanadian Audible LinkUK Audible LinkSupport the show!...

Jason Tyrone took a circuitous journey before establishing a highly successful vegetable farm in Lake Park, Georgia. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he returned to his home state of Arkansas to work. After additional steps, he established Tycor Farms in 2010 with his now brother-in law.Tycor Farms grows peppers, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, cabbage, and green beans. Their location offers many positives. Crops are grown in sandy soil, which drains well. The climate allows for spring and fall harvests, and the farm is near major interstate highways which help with distribution.Tyrone said maintaining consistently high-quality produce is vital, as it helps the vegetables hold up well during their journey to market. It also helps keep customers coming back for more.“I started with Redox not long after I started farming, first with their calcium product,” he said. “That's a big thing in bell peppers. We saw a lot of improvements looking at numbers on paper and quality itself, so it's been part of program for probably 15 years.”The H-2A guestworker program is a key part of the farm's workforce. At its peak, Tycor employs some 275 farm workers.“We would literally be nothing without them,” Tyrone said. “I've been here, in total, for almost 20 years. Some of the same people have been coming here for as long as I've been here. We have a lot of return workers, especially our main guys. They love coming here. They take time away from their family to come here for two or three months at a time. They want to make all of the money they can. They take a lot of pride in their work at this farm, which means everything to us.”Food safety is a top priority at the farm, with a full-time employee devoted to this area. As Tyrone explained, “If everybody is doing their part to make sure we're sending off a good, healthy product, we're all better off.”At the end of a long workday, Tyrone said he remains fascinated with the growing process.“That's what keeps me doing this,” he said. “That's my favorite thing, is to watch the crop grow and how good it looks there at the end before we start tearing it up picking it.”
State splits the first two with Ole Miss. Record crowds...spring football...concerts...good times.
