“Tornado Shapiro” returns with the weekend forecast as the greater Philadelphia area braces for another projected winter storm, and the WIP Afternoon Show gets you ready for what's ahead.
Pennsylvania is working with the USDA to try and control the spread of Avian Flu across the Commonwealth's poultry industry. Many state employees’ conversations with artificial intelligence will likely remain shielded from public view — following a ruling this month from Pennsylvania’s open records agency. A new hospital is preparing to open in Northern York County. Meantime, a hospital in northern Pennsylvania, Bradford Regional Medical Center, will close its inpatient, emergency and long-term care services by mid-2026. The closures mark a continuing downward trend for Pennsylvania’s rural hospitals. A Juniata County hunter is being charged in connection with the shooting death of another hunter within his deer hunting party on December 2nd. As data centers are proposed and built across the state - and drawing backlash - new figures are emerging about their potential long-term costs. The Shapiro administration’s latest budget estimates show Pennsylvania could lose out on about $2 billion in revenue by mid-2031 due to a tax break that some lawmakers want to repeal. In his first term as governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro has managed to sustain a 60% approval rating—including 30% of Trump voters—in a quintessential battleground state. How? Shapiro talks Harry through his bipartisan, pragmatic approach to governing, and how it can overcome Trump's reckless, divisive style. He lays out a roadmap for countering the president's most abusive policies, even while respecting the "righteous frustration" that motivated his voters. And Governor Shapiro is coming to San Diego for a live, in-person conversation with Harry about his memoir. All Home Care Matters and our host, Lance A. Slatton were honored to welcome Rachel Shapiro as guest to the show. About Rachel Shapiro: Rachel Shapiro is the Head of Marketing for LivTech's In-Home Care division, supporting brands including CareTime, Ally, Qualis, and WorldView. Her work focuses on helping home care, home health, hospice, and senior care organizations navigate complex operational and regulatory challenges with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Her connection to this industry is deeply personal. When a close family member suddenly needed home health support, it fundamentally changed how Rachel understands care not just as a profession, but as something lived every day. That experience reshaped how she shows up in her work, grounding her perspective in empathy for families, caregivers, and care teams alike. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her family and is driven by a belief that the business of care should never become a barrier to care itself. About LivTech: LivTech is a healthcare technology company dedicated to supporting organizations that deliver care in the home. Through a portfolio of specialized brands — including CareTime, Ally, Qualis, and WorldView — LivTech provides software and services designed for home care, home health, hospice, PACE, and senior care organizations navigating increasingly complex operational and regulatory environments. LivTech's solutions address the real work behind care delivery: billing and revenue cycle management, documentation, visit verification, equipment management, compliance, and operational visibility. Each brand is purpose-built for its specific audience, ensuring providers are not forced into generic systems that don't reflect how care is actually delivered or reimbursed. What sets LivTech apart is its deep industry alignment. The company works alongside providers to understand the downstream impact of daily operational decisions — from documentation and EVV to claims, cash flow, and compliance risk. Rather than focusing on surface-level efficiency, LivTech helps organizations build durable systems that support predictable revenue, audit readiness, and sustainable growth. LivTech partners closely with provider associations, industry experts, and care leaders across the country to stay ahead of regulatory shifts and operational challenges. This hands-on approach ensures that solutions evolve with the realities of care, not just the technology roadmap. At its core, LivTech believes the business of care should strengthen — not obstruct — the delivery of care. Its mission is to give providers the clarity, confidence, and support they need to focus on what matters most: the people they serve.

Mark Halperin joins Michael to rank the top Democratic contenders for 2028 — and the results may surprise you. Why is Gavin Newsom leading the field? Is Josh Shapiro the real threat? Where do Kamala Harris, J.B. Pritzker, AOC, Pete Buttigieg, Rahm Emanuel, and Mark Kelly stand? Halperin explains his latest Democratic power rankings — focused not on who would win the presidency, but who is most likely to win the nomination. The conversation also explores whether Democrats will prioritize electability over identity in 2028, and whether the party shifts back toward the center. Plus: Trump's posture toward Iran, the continuing Epstein fallout, and what Republicans are quietly planning for the midterms. Listen in, and please rate, review, and share this podcast! Governor Josh Shapiro has unveiled his Housing Action Plan, a proposal aimed at lowering costs and building more homes across Pennsylvania. ICE and Border Patrol agents raided a Montgomery County home last week, detaining Jose Manuel Cordova Lopez. His family is now calling for an independent investigation into what they say was a disproportionate and traumatic show of force. A group of Blair County volunteers is asking for help to restore a nearby abandoned town. An area historian is leading the charge and wants to turn the now-wooded area into a historical attraction. The outlook for Pennsylvania's rural hospitals is grim, in the face of decreasing federal dollars and budgetary challenges. An outbreak of avian influenza - or bird flu - is affecting 2.4 million birds in seven commercial poultry flocks in Lancaster County. Nearly 2,000 acres of Pennsylvania farmland is being preserved, in the state's latest round of ag preservation efforts. Governor Josh Shapiro explains why he's not attending an upcoming White House gathering of governors. Governor Shapiro is also pushing back after President Trump said he wants the federal government to take control of elections nationwide. Shapiro says Pennsylvania is ready to handle the midterms the way it always has -- at the local level. Republicans in the U.S. House are pushing major election reforms as we approach the midterms. Pennsylvania Republicans passed a restrictive voting bill in the U.S. House, with Reps. Lloyd Smucker and Scott Perry supporting the bill, which now heads to the Senate. WITF’s Jordan Wilkie talks with Votebeat editor Nathaniel Rakich, who is following this story. Tornado Shapiro is back with another weekend forecast, giving the WIP Afternoon Show the latest on what to expect weather-wise over the next few days.
Governor Josh Shapiro and other Democratic governors say they're boycotting an annual bipartisan White House event next week. Hundreds of protesters called for the restoration of a slavery exhibit at the President’s House in Philadelphia as the city battles the Trump administration in federal court. Elected officials gathered to condemn immigration enforcement agents’ operations in the Greater Philadelphia region Wednesday – a day after federal ICE agents detained a man and reportedly broke down the door of a Montgomery County home. The State Department of Health is encouraging students in grades one through six to submit a poster or short video for their Student Lyme Disease Prevention Art Competition. We are headed into Valentine’s Day weekend – and maybe you’re looking for something fun to do. Michael sits down with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to discuss his new memoir, "Where We Keep the Light: Stories from a Life of Service." Shapiro reflects on the values that shaped him—faith, family, and public service—and opens up about the defining moments of his life and career. From a traumatic arson attack on the Governor's Residence to leading the investigation that exposed widespread abuse within the Catholic Church, Shapiro shares deeply personal stories about resilience, leadership, and moral responsibility. The conversation also explores mental health, political courage, campus protests, bipartisan governance, and the role his wife, Lori, plays in grounding his decisions. It's a candid and wide-ranging discussion about service, conviction, and finding light in the darkest moments. Original air date 10 February 2026. The book was published on 27 January 2026. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Gov. Josh Shapiro has plenty of dark experiences that he could recount in his new memoir, Where We Keep the Light. In his first term as Pennsylvania's governor, he investigated abuse within the Catholic Church and was the victim of an arson attack in his own home. But as Shapiro eyes a second term in Pennsylvania, he says he's choosing to focus on the light. In today's episode Shapiro sits down with NPR's Scott Detrow, and the two discuss the power of local civic engagement — including how small communities can produce big change. Ben Shapiro, the host of his eponymous podcast and the co-founder of the conservative website the Daily Wire, has lambasted the left and the Democratic Party for decades. Recently, though, Shapiro has taken to criticizing some of the loudest voices in the MAGA universe, including Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly. The rift is over the acceptance and promulgation of conspiracy theories and, in particular, the normalization of antisemitism. Shapiro discusses the Epstein files and what they show—and do not show—about the powerful people connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The belief in conspiracies of the élite reflects “people's desire to abdicate control over their own lives,” Shapiro tells David Remnick. They discuss Shapiro's adherence to the conservative value of personal responsibility, and how he squares that with MAGA and its champions. Federal prosecutors have reportedly issued subpoenas to multiple Philadelphia agencies in the Ellen Greenberg case—and they're not looking at whether Ellen was murdered. They're looking at whether the officials who handled her case broke federal law.Ellen Greenberg died in 2011 with twenty stab wounds, including ten to the back of her neck. The medical examiner ruled it homicide. Police pushed back. The ruling changed to suicide. For fifteen years, her parents have fought every agency in Pennsylvania to get answers. Every agency told them the same thing: their daughter killed herself by stabbing herself in the back of the neck ten times. Now the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is asking questions. Sources say the investigation centers on the Philadelphia Police Department, the Medical Examiner's Office, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office—which was run by current Governor Josh Shapiro when the case sat there for four years. The timeline is damning. The crime scene was cleaned before detectives processed it. James Schwartzman, the fiancé's uncle and a prominent judicial official, removed electronic devices before police secured a warrant. Those devices later became key evidence—despite the original report saying no suicidal content was found. Shapiro's office cited those searches as proof of suicide. Then discovered an "appearance of conflict" with the Goldberg and Schwartzman families. Four years after taking the case.If federal investigators find corruption, the statutes carry serious time. Deprivation of rights. Evidence tampering. Obstruction. Up to life in prison if the conduct contributed to a death.Someone outside Philadelphia is finally asking the questions this case has demanded for fifteen years.#EllenGreenberg #FederalProbe #JoshShapiro #PhiladelphiaCorruption #TrueCrimeToday #JamesSchwartzman #SamuelGoldberg #Subpoenas #CoverUp #JusticeForEllenJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
This is the episode we've been waiting fifteen years to make. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has reportedly issued subpoenas to the Philadelphia Police Department, the Medical Examiner's Office, and other agencies—including the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office that Josh Shapiro ran when the case sat on his desk for four years.Sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer this isn't about how Ellen Greenberg died. It's about whether the people who handled her case committed federal crimes.Ellen was found with twenty stab wounds, ten to the back of her neck, a knife lodged four inches into her chest. The medical examiner ruled it homicide. Then police objected. Then the ruling changed to suicide. Then the crime scene was cleaned—with police permission—before detectives could process it. Then James Schwartzman, Samuel Goldberg's uncle and Chairman of the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board, removed laptops and phones from the apartment. Those devices later became the basis for the official suicide narrative—even though the original report said no suicidal searches were found. Now federal prosecutors want to know what happened. The statutes they're working with carry penalties up to life in prison. Deprivation of rights under color of law. Evidence tampering. Obstruction. Conspiracy.Governor Shapiro has presidential ambitions. His former spokesperson now works for Philadelphia's mayor. Schwartzman sits on the bench as a Pennsylvania judge. None of them have been charged—but all of them may have to answer uncomfortable questions to people who can compel the truth. The Greenbergs waited fifteen years for someone outside Philadelphia to take this seriously. Someone finally is.#EllenGreenberg #FederalInvestigation #JoshShapiro #JamesSchwartzman #PhiladelphiaCorruption #TrueCrime #HiddenKillers #CoverUp #ObstructionOfJustice #JusticeForEllenJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
