Can a drone gaming company deliver commercial solutions? If you ask today’s guest, he would surely say, “Yes it can.” Menashe Haskin is Co-Founder and CTO of EdgyBees, an augmented reality company that fuses pioneering 3D video generation, computer vision and multi-sensor data analysis to solve real-world problems. Edgybees started as a gaming platform for drone enthusiasts, but soon found that its platform could provide value in other use cases. It is now competing with major commercial drone companies in the emergency response area. Before founding EdgyBees, Menashe managed the   Israeli development office of Amazon Prime Air. Previously, Menashe managed the development of Amazon’s FireTV platform, selling millions of units, from product conception through launch. Prior to joining Amazon, Menashe was founder and CEO of YMagic Technologies through its successful M&A, and held key positions in several Israeli hi-tech companies. He holds over 35 US patents in the fields of aerospace, video and vision processing, data processing and communication. Major natural disasters have shocked the United States in recent memory and left many without their homes, communities and loved ones. From the California wildfires to most recently Hurricane Florence, first responders need the resources to better save those in need, and now they have a new tool in their toolbox: the HD video, AR capable drone. We connected with Adam Kaplan, CEO and co-founder of the AR software firm Edgybees, to learn more about using augmented reality and drones to aide municipalities in natural disaster relief and public safety missions. "We really focus on the ability to use AR to better understand and collaborate with video," Kaplan said. "We believe that there's a lot of really great practical applications that can do a lot of good for the world." Edgybees' video software is in action right now for Hurricane Florence relief. It's allowing for unmanned search and rescue (SAR) missions that are more efficient with better video and better search patterns. "What started off as a game has turned into a technology that is helping people complete their missions in public safety environments. In fact, I'm here outside of Hurricane Florence where we're doing work with our software and a number of drones," Kaplan said.
