Mitsubishi Electric has partnered with Irish tech company EVHACS to launch a new product for the residential and commercial market: the world's first integrated heat pump and electric vehicle (EV) charger. This groundbreaking collaboration merges Mitsubishi Electric's cutting-edge heat pump and air conditioning systems with EVHACS' patented EV charging technology, creating a single, compact unit capable of both heating and cooling spaces and charging electric vehicles. One installation. One power connection. Two solutions. The integrated system will allow homeowners, property developers, and commercial operators to simplify their infrastructure by combining two vital energy technologies in one. This results in reduced installation complexity, faster deployment, lower total system costs, and minimal impact on building aesthetics. "This partnership marks a major leap forward in sustainable building technology," said Ciaran Moody, President Mitsubishi Electric Ireland. "We are proud that our Irish team is at the forefront of this innovation, pioneering the future of smart, connected homes and businesses by combining two critical technologies into one intelligent system. This solution reflects Mitsubishi Electric's commitment to driving the energy transition through practical, scalable innovation." The integrated system enables maximum energy efficiency, offering a powerful, future-proof solution for the decarbonised buildings of tomorrow. By intelligently sharing available electrical capacity between heating, cooling and EV charging functions, the system helps prevent overload, avoids costly grid upgrades, and ensures optimal performance even during peak demand. "Customers are looking for smarter, simpler ways to adopt low-carbon technologies," continued Ciaran. "By partnering with EVHACS, we're creating a solution that delivers on both convenience and sustainability. It's a major leap forward in how we think about the connected home and workplace." Key benefits of the integrated Mitsubishi Electric + EVHACS system: Simplified Installation: By combining renewable heating, cooling and smart EV charging in a single unit, only one electrical connection is required - saving time, space, and materials. Lower Cost of Ownership: By eliminating the need for separate EV chargers and additional cabling or civil works, the combined solution reduces both upfront installation and long-term maintenance costs. End users benefit from a lower total system cost, while also gaining two essential energy systems in one. Space Efficiency: The all-in-one format is especially valuable in urban, suburban, or commercial environments where space is limited. This makes the integrated system ideal for retrofits, apartments, townhouses, and commercial buildings where external wall space or electrical capacity might otherwise limit the ability to install multiple systems. Smart Energy Use: The system includes intelligent controls that allow users to manage both their heating, cooling and EV charging from a single interface. Smart scheduling and connectivity features help optimise energy consumption based on tariffs, occupancy, or energy demand, maximising comfort and convenience while reducing energy waste. Dynamic Load Balancing: One of the most significant advantages of this integrated solution is its ability to dynamically balance electrical loads between the heat pump and the EV charger. This ensures the system never draws more power than the available supply can handle, helping to prevent overloads or the need for costly electrical panel or grid upgrades. It also supports participation in demand-side management and future smart grid applications. EVHACS' proprietary technology transforms Mitsubishi Electric's award-winning heat pumps and air conditioning units into dual-purpose systems without compromising on performance or efficiency. The integration supports AC charging and is designed to work seamlessly within home energy management systems. "This i...

What's up, everyone! Today we're sharing an episode with Joseph Vellone, the CEO of ChargeScape — a Joint Venture between Ford, Honda, BMW, and Nissan. -----Listen on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube | Pocket Casts-----As the grid continues to buckle under the pressure of ever-increasing demand, it's more important than ever to find ways to manage the existing load. However, it's not all bad. One of the main demand drivers might be the core solution to these demand problems—namely, EVs, when paired with smart charging software. You see, all these EVs are essentially backup batteries. Currently, not all are equipped with bi-directional charging, but most new vehicles hitting the roads are. So, not only can a smart charging software, managed by utilities, alleviate demand on the grid, it can also pull energy from the vehicles when the time is right (again, when the hardware capabilities are present). -----Support our Work with a Paid Subscription-----This fundamentally shifts our perspective on vehicles. Instead of a cost center, it could earn you money by purchasing cheap energy, or charging on solar for free, and selling back to the grid at peak demand times. This is the type of utopian future we work towards — and the best part, it's becoming reality in front of us. The Do One Better! Podcast – Philanthropy, Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship
This conversation offers an illuminating view into the intersection of entrepreneurship, climate innovation, and ecosystem-building, as seen through the partnership between SparkCharge and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). Josh Aviv, Founder and CEO of SparkCharge, and Matt Petersen, President and CEO of LACI, detail the transformative impact of incubator support on the successful deployment of cleantech solutions—particularly in addressing the critical infrastructure gap in electric vehicle (EV) charging. SparkCharge has emerged as a category-defining company in mobile EV charging. Its innovation lies in offering modular, off-grid battery systems capable of delivering fast, flexible charging to electric vehicle fleets without requiring permanent infrastructure. This is particularly significant in a landscape where the traditional rollout of fixed EV charging stations can take years. By contrast, SparkCharge can bring fleet operations online within days. The technology is not only scalable and cost-effective but addresses a central barrier to EV adoption in underserved or infrastructure-poor locations. Central to SparkCharge's success is its long-standing relationship with LACI. Matt Petersen outlines LACI's mission to build an inclusive green economy by supporting early-stage climate-focused ventures through incubation, access to capital, and workforce training. SparkCharge's trajectory through LACI exemplifies this support in action. From winning the California Climate Cup in 2019 to refining investor pitches, connecting with early customers, and leveraging non-dilutive funding and working capital, SparkCharge benefited from a full-spectrum, hands-on approach to scaling. LACI's model demonstrates how climate incubation can go beyond office space and mentoring. Their wraparound support includes executive coaching, pilot funding, capital stack innovation through debt and equity funds, and workforce integration. Notably, SparkCharge leveraged LACI's microloan program—created to fill a critical gap in startup financing—alongside its ecosystem of commercial partners and regulators, including influential environmental agencies and private investors who visited the LACI campus to see SparkCharge's technology in action. Aviv articulates the entrepreneurial journey with candor, underscoring the emotional endurance, strategic clarity, and spiritual conviction required to lead a startup addressing systemic challenges. He emphasizes that being an entrepreneur demands both resilience and vision, particularly when pioneering novel business models that must educate the market as much as serve it. Petersen complements this by advocating for a broader understanding of entrepreneurship—not just for founders, but also for civic and social actors he calls “citizen entrepreneurs.” He urges others to find opportunities in their own communities to champion sustainability, reinforcing the importance of localized, mission-driven leadership at every level. Today on the Clean Power Hour, Tim Montague delves into the critical yet often overlooked aspect of electrification: EV charging infrastructure for multifamily housing. Tim welcomes Aubrey Gunnels, CEO and co-founder of 3V Infrastructure, a company that's tackling the significant gap in EV charging accessibility for the 31% of Americans living in multifamily buildings.Aubrey explains how 3V's business model works – they provide all capital expenditure and operational costs while installing Level 2 chargers at multifamily properties at zero cost to property owners. The company generates revenue by charging drivers a premium on electricity rates, creating a sustainable business model that doesn't rely heavily on government subsidies. This approach addresses a crucial market need, as currently, only about 5% of multifamily buildings have EV chargers despite 80% of charging happening at home. The conversation explores how 3V uses data-driven approaches to determine the optimal number of chargers for each property, considering factors like local EV registration data, building demographics, and anticipated growth patterns. Aubrey shares insights about how property managers see EV charging as an increasingly important amenity that affects NOI (Net Operating Income) and resident retention.Tim and Aubrey discuss the challenges of EV infrastructure development in the US compared to Europe, the importance of charger reliability, and how private investment in charging infrastructure remains critical regardless of policy shifts. They also touch on the broader EV market trends, battery price decreases, and how the automotive sector's global competitiveness continues to drive EV development despite political changes. This episode provides valuable insights for real estate owners, property managers, clean energy professionals, and anyone interested in the future of transportation electrification. Listen now to understand how companies like 3V Infrastructure are working to make EV ownership accessible to all Americans, regardless of where they live.Social Media HandlesAubrey Gunnels3v infrastructure Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. A North Dakota jury found in favor of pipeline company Energy Transfer and ordered Greenpeace to pay more than $600 million in damages over its role in helping protest the Dakota Access Pipeline. Some legal experts call the case a classic SLAPP or Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation suit and a threat to free speech. Also, a program funded by the 2021 bipartisan Infrastructure Law sought to install many more electric vehicle chargers. But now the Trump administration has stalled this funding. And the world can be an awfully noisy place. Ed Jahn of Oregon Public Broadcasting took a journey in search of silence and found what could be the quietest place in Oregon.
