The course of radiation has caused a serious road block, so to speak, and through a personal triumph comes a personal humiliation. There is no "Getting To Know You" after this episode.
Our guest this week is Sophia Cummings. She is the owner of 3 Rio Acai Bowls locations and a local real estate agent in Bakersfield. Tune in to hear more about Sophia!
October is the month of the King (or should that be Queen) of the plant world to make themselves known in SA. Roses are the plant that conjure up visions of love, not just through their good looks, but the memories their scent evoke... Long thought by many to be particularly pernickity, difficult to grow and in need of far too much attention, Roses have proven their worth in water scarce gardens around the country. As one of the top Rose breeders in the country, Anja Taschner demystifies the lore of these beauties, and tells us more about the latest Named Rose to come from their stable in honour of Thuli Madonsela. https://www.ludwigsroses.co.za/ click here If you're ready to produce your own podcast, contact the podcast experts at

You must listen to this Tony Awards' off air performance of Everything's Coming Up Roses, the showstopping song from the Broadway Musical Gypsy, sung by Billy Porter.
David talks about everything around him being roses. When he sees roses he thinks of hope, his dreams and promises that are being made. He can’t imagine his life without flowers and he says flowers make his life perfect. David enjoys looking into glass shops and witnessing couples receiving flowers with a smile on their faces. When someone gives you a flower it’s to be remembered and flowers should be used in your everyday life for home decorations, to give to your loved ones or for you to smell so you can get a sense of nature.David introduces his guest Louis and he defines beauty as structure, which comes with organizing and looking at the big picture. Louis discusses his childhood where he grew up in a construction environment called Staten Island. His neighborhood was filled with trees, which made him interested owning his own flower shop. Louis explains how he became a florists and he was inspired by the different experiences he was involved with, such as seeing the different colors in flowers. Louis talks about his florists shop giving the customers a variety of different flowers that they can choose from. Some of the challenges Louis face as a florist, is seeing how long the flowers can last standing without falling down throughout the day.”It’s like building something”Louis says, which goes back to the foundation of structure. Structure is what pushes Louis to go further and try new things that he never done before. He then discusses how the flower arrangements process goes. He would ask the customers what their preference is and from there he takes the lead to develop the final outcome.David and Louis play a quick flower game discussing different types of flowers. They go into discussion describing the different type of flower seasons and the variety of colors they have. Louis gives flower tips on how to keep the flowers alive. He then describes his favorite flower and color. Louis’ favorite flower is a rose and he likes how the flower opens up beautifully. The color he enjoys the most is yellow. He describes the color yellow being a bright and happy color. In order for the customers to be happy, Louis suggest the customers should give him a layout of what they want, so he can get an idea of how the flowers should look.Louis tells the listeners how to keep flowers in your home alive. The bacteria in the water kills the flower and if the stem does not have a fresh cut, the stem would not keep the flower alive. Also, you should change the water mostly everyday or every 2 days to keep the flower moist. If the customer is not happy with the flower arrangements, Louis and his florists team would be more than happy to replace the original product. For this not to happen, its up to the customers to give a lot of information to the florist so you can avoid this problem. Flowers should be given to everyone, including men without a problem.
Eric Matthew Richardson is a composer who lives in Chicago. He may or may not have some radical things to say about Everything's Coming Up Roses, the song that closes Act 1 of Gypsy. Certainly he is knowledgable about the song and the history of the show. Plus, we hear some audio snippets from Arthur Laurents as he discusses not only Gypsy, but what makes a good musical director.
Four progressive women with Democratic Socialist platforms running for Pennsylvania State House won big last week in their primaries. All unseated establishment male incumbents. All four – Summer Lee & Sara Innamorato of Pittsburgh and Kristin Seale & Elizabeth Fiedler of Philadelphia – join the show to discuss their respective races, their experience in taking on the establishment, how their people-powered campaigns helped them win, DSA's role and what their Dem Socialist platforms meant to them, and what this means all across the country going forward. All that plus listener questions and comments and much more!

Discuss on Reddit ➤ Support the Show ➤ Here it is boys! Here it is WORLD! Here's our Gypsy podcast! We talk about the genius of this almost sixty year old musical, Arthur Laurents changing his mind (shocker!) and spend WAY too much time talking about each of the formidable actresses who have played Mama Rose. Oh, and we're in New York right now, too. Did we mention that? Gypsy (2015 London Cast) Amazon / Spotify / iTunes SHOW NOTES Check out Gypsy Rose Lee's memoir – where this whole show began. Or, for something less risqué, maybe check out Arthur Laurents's Mainly on Directing. You've GOT to check out Jo Melziner's book of set design renderings. Tommy's in NYC right now so can't scan in the Gypsy rendering, but if somebody reminds him in like a week, he can put it here… Live, from Sardi's, it's Ethel Merman! (Complete with microphone.) Ethel Merman. Disco. Everything's Coming Up Roses. 'Nuff said. Ugh. Isn't she fabulous? Check out the humble (ambiguously British) Angela Lansbury as Mama Rose at the Tony Awards. Wanna see a weird production of Into the Woods? What if we told you Imelda was in it? Yah. There you go. This is just a sampling of the fabulous Imelda Staunton in Gypsy, but you should ABSOLUTELY watch it. NOT A QUIZ QUESTION, JUST A QUESTION-QUESTION… What would you like us to do in New York?
"Everything's Coming Up Roses." This week we talk with the intrepid freethinking Connecticut florist (of Glimpse of Gaia) who delivered flowers to the victorious teenage Rhode Island atheist litigant Jessica Ahlquist after nobody in Rhode Island would do it. We also celebrate a victory 30+ years in the making, and announce the filing of FFRF's newest lawsuit challenging the Jesus Statue on federal land in Montana.
Marvin Hamlisch got into the Juilliard School of Music at the age of seven and he has been successful ever since. His two hit musicals - Chorus Line and They're Playing our Song - and his scores for over 20 films have won him many awards, including three Academy Awards in a single night. His most recent musical, Jean Seberg, opened at the National Theatre in 1983. In conversation with Roy Plomley, he talks about his career and chooses the eight records he would take to the mythical island.
