The Discipline of Rejoicing Gives Birth to Hope

On the Third Sunday of Advent, we are reminded of such an integral aspect of our relational experience with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The name of this Mass in Latin is Gaudete, a word that means "rejoice." St. Paul, in Philippians 4, teaches us to rejoice and that we are to rejoice even in times of anxiousness and troubling times and events. Our intercessions and cries in our times of suffering are to be interlaced with praise to God. Today we talk about keeping a living remembrance of the loving works of God on our behalf. For it is rejoicing that gives birth to hope and protects us from despair.

Friends of the Rosary,Today, the Third Sunday of Advent, is known as Gaudete Sunday as the Church emphasizes the joy that should be in our hearts as Christmas draws near. The term Gaudete refers to the first word of the Entrance Antiphon, "Rejoice". The rose candle on the Advent wreath is light, and priests wear rose vestments. The joy of Christians is to see when the Lord will come again in His glory to lead them into His kingdom. The Veni ("Come") of Advent is an echo of the prophets and also of the conclusion of the Apocalypse of St. John: "Come, Lord Jesus," the last words of the New Testament. And on today's Mass, as the color violet or rose is used, we read about the answer of the Lord to John the Baptist, the herald of Christ."Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."Ave MariaCome, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New!

Send us a textWelcome to PTTTSOTW on this 3rd Sunday of advent yr A also known as Gaudete Sunday Rejoice Sunday because the opening antiphon at Mass this Sunday begins with the word "rejoice" - Rejoice in the Lord always- Gaudete in Domino semper in Latin.Friends in Christ, We rejoice today because the birth of our Blessed Lord is very near. To express this joy we light rose candle and the clergy may wear rose- coloured  vestments. In the 1st reading the prophet Isaiah encouraged the exiled Israelites to rejoice because God was going to liberate them from slavery and lead them safely to the promised land. Likewise in the second reading, James the Apostle encourages the early Christians to rejoice and wait with patience for the imminent second coming of Jesus. In the gospel JTB must have rejoiced at Jesus response to the question that he asked Jesus through his disciples because he was a man of faith. Friends in Christ, we rejoice at the thought that Jesus is going to be reborn in our lives, deepening in us his gifts of love, mercy, forgiveness and the spirit of humble and sacrificial service. may we be bearers and heralds of this wonderful message to those around us everyday.Support the show

Hna. Is humility making yourself small… or living in the truth? Joe and Father Boniface unpack humility as honesty—seeing ourselves as we are before God—and why that frees us to use our real gifts in service (yes, even taking the seat that has your name on it). We explore self-forgetfulness, how affirmation heals the reflex to self-protect, and practical ways to grow from self-concern into self-gift. Throughout, we keep all three lenses in view: integrity with ourselves, charity toward others, under a living relationship with God.Key IdeasHumility is truth: neither self-inflation nor false modesty, but an honest acceptance of who we are before God—and using our gifts accordingly.Concrete example: sometimes the humble act is to take the role or “reserved spot” that's yours, because it serves the community best.Know your tilt: some of us oversell; others undersell—humility learns our tendency and seeks honest mirrors (trusted people who can praise and correct).Self-forgetfulness grows from being loved and affirmed; emotional safety reduces self-protective focus and opens us to others.A simple path: notice insecurity triggers, share them with someone who loves you, receive affirmation there—and then go build that same affirmation in others this week.Links & ReferencesConrad Baars, affirmation and emotional development — Conrad Baars Institute (official): https://www.conradbaars.comPope Francis, Gaudete et Exsultate (On the Call to Holiness in Today's World) — official Vatican text: https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20180319_gaudete-et-exsultate.htmlCTA If this helped, please leave a review or share this episode with a friend.Questions or thoughts? What if the story of your life isn't “nothing much happened”… but a mission God is speaking through you? Joe and Father Boniface unpack how tiny, daily choices—patience with family, taking out the trash with care—shape a saint's storyline, and why zooming in on micro-moments actually clarifies the bigger horizon. We explore St. Thérèse's wisdom about doing the next small thing with great love alongside Pope Francis' call to see your life as a unique message entrusted to you. Through it all, we stay grounded in the three lenses: honesty with self, charity with others, under a living relationship with God.Key IdeasTake a “micro audit” of the last season: note small relational wins (held your patience, chose forgiveness) and misses (withdrew attention, snapped online) to see real growth.Your life is a mission and a message: lift your eyes to the horizon periodically to name milestones, then return to the next faithful step.St. Thérèse's path: do the next ordinary task with great love—God meets us in the present moment.Hold macro and micro together: alternate big-picture review with daily presence so grace can re-pattern habits over time.Practical examen: Where did my attention go today (phone, work, family, prayer)? 17 And coming down with them, he stood in a plain place, and the company of his disciples, and a very great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast both of Tyre and Sidon,Et descendens cum illis, stetit in loco campestri, et turba discipulorum ejus, et multitudo copiosa plebis ab omni Judaea, et Jerusalem, et maritima, et Tyri, et Sidonis, 18 Who were come to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases. And they that were troubled with unclean spirits, were cured.qui venerant ut audirent eum, et sanarentur a languoribus suis. Et qui vexabantur a spiritibus immundis, curabantur. 19 And all the multitude sought to touch him, for virtue went out from him, and healed all. 20 And he, lifting up his eyes on his disciples, said: Blessed are ye poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.Et ipse elevatis oculis in discipulis suis, dicebat : Beati pauperes, quia vestrum est regnum Dei. 21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for you shall laugh.Beati qui nunc esuritis, quia saturabimini. Beati qui nunc fletis, quia ridebitis. 22 Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. 23 Be glad in that day and rejoice; for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets. St Fabian, Supreme Pontiff, suffered martyrdom in the persecution of Decius, A.D. 250. St Sebastian, an officer of the imperial cohort, was pierced with arrows in the persecution of Diocletian; but he recovered and the emperor condemned him to be flogged to death A.D. 284.

On this "Gaudete Sunday" -- named for the first word of the Entrance Antiphon, which is "Gaudete", "Rejoice!" and symbolized by its rose liturgical color -- our second reading today echoes this them of joy. Paul says, "Rejoice in the Lord always!" This is a command for the Christian, and because we cannot "command" the way that we feel, he is communicating to us that joy is not a feeling but an act of the will, a result of our trust and confidence that God is good and that we are loved -- in good times and in bad!

The third Sunday of Advent is called, Gaudete, the first Latin word of the Introit: Rejoice, in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice! ( Phil 4:4 ). And yet, as the picture on the front of the bulletin illustrates, the present circumstances may not seem like the time for rejoicing. John the Baptist…

Evangelio Ciclo C.
