As we step into a new year, many are asking the same question: Who—or what—can I really count on? In this opening message of the Firm Foundations series, we're reminded that storms don't test our intentions—they reveal our foundations. Using the powerful illustration of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, this sermon exposes the danger of building on unstable ground and invites us to stop striving harder and start building wiser. God's answer to instability isn't more effort—it's a stronger foundation. Scripture declares that Jesus Christ is the Chief Cornerstone, tested, precious, and unshakable. When life applies pressure, alignment matters more than activity. This message calls us not to rebuild our lives in fear or shame, but to realign them in trust. If you're entering this year hopeful yet cautious, weary yet faithful, this word will anchor your heart in the only foundation that produces rest instead of rush.
This message continues our study of the book of Joshua and tests during times of success. It covers the stories of Rahab, Achan, and Ai.
This second message in Joshua covers tests 3 and 4 during seasons of success.
We are leaving the "Lessons from the Wilderness" today to enter a series of messages about entering the Promised land called; "Tests of Success."
Original airdate 8/12/25: Mary welcomes new guest Elizabeth Urbanowicz, a follower of Jesus Christ who is passionate about equipping kids to understand the truth of the Christian worldview. Elizabeth began her professional career as an elementary teacher in a Christian school. Several years into her teaching experience, she realized that despite being raised in Christian homes, attending a Christian school, and being active in church, her students thought more like the culture than like Christ. She began searching for curricular materials that would equip her students to think critically, helping them discover that Christianity is the worldview that lines up with reality. After not finding any materials that met this need, she began creating a curriculum for her students. Today we look at how to move our kids forward, and pursue excellence in everything, at a time when the culture keeps going backwards everywhere we look. Counteracting a worldly worldview is a full time job. How can families and churches proactively keep their youth engaged with truth? What will it take, consistently and purposefully? A full hour with Elizabeth as we seek to begin to guard our hearts with all diligence and raise children to be confident, passionate lovers of truth. In this enlightening exploration of faith, we're invited to delve deeper into the true meaning of seeking God. The central message revolves around Jesus' teaching from Matthew 7:24-27 about building our lives on a solid foundation. We're challenged to move beyond superficial faith and truly pursue a relationship with God. The speaker cleverly uses the analogy of a hide-and-seek game to illustrate how God desires us to actively seek Him, not just passively wait. This ties beautifully into the '168-hour rule', prompting us to examine how we allocate our time and prioritize our spiritual growth. The message emphasizes that God is always present, like the hidden $20 bill, but we often miss Him because we're not truly looking. This serves as a powerful call to action for us to intentionally carve out time for prayer, Bible study, and deepening our relationship with God.--------------We are growing the Kingdom of God through the lives of everyday people by reaching UP to God, IN to Grow, and OUT to GiveJoin us on Sundays at 8:30 in person and 10:30 in person and online!FBC Nokomis Youtube: www.youtube.com/@FirstBaptistChurchofNokomisFBC Nokomis Facebook: www.facebook.com/firstbaptistnokomisFBC Nokomis Sermon Podcast: https://fbcnokomissermons.buzzsprout.com/shareSupport the show
When our faith takes a beating and we hit rock bottom, it's tempting to give up and walk away from God altogether. To survive a crisis of belief, we need unshakeable foundations that will hold us up when everything around us is falling apart.
In week two of Firm Foundations, Dr. Scott McKee explores Jesus' bold declaration: “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Drawing from Matthew 16, Pastor Scott reminds us that the Church isn't a human invention—it's Jesus' idea, his body, and his plan for redeeming the world. In a culture that often dismisses or doubts the Church, we're called to remember who the Church belongs to, who builds it, and how powerful it truly is. Ward Church, like every local church, has been invited into this redemptive mission—to push back darkness, embody radical grace, and reflect Christ's love to the world. Jesus is still building his Church. Let's be part of it.
On Mother's Day, Dr. Scott McKee launches the new Firm Foundations series with a message centered on grace—God's unmerited favor that meets us not in our strength, but in our weakness. Drawing from the Apostle Paul's thorn-in-the-flesh story in 2 Corinthians 12, Pastor Scott reminds us that grace isn't just a promise of heaven, but a present, sustaining power in our everyday struggles. Through personal testimony, biblical reflection, and a moving parable, we're invited to embrace our thorns as unlikely gifts that lead us deeper into God's transforming grace. Grace doesn't just change our eternity—it changes everything.
"The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" -Chicken Little I'm sure she was a very sweet hen. If you're familiar with the original story of Chicken Little (rather than the Disney movie version), you might remember that her real name was Henny Penny. I'd guess she was sincere, cared about her neighbors, took initiative, and was well-respected. But she also tended to make assumptions, jump to conclusions, and share information without verifying its accuracy. Which, if you know how the story ends, cost her - and her feathered friends - quite dearly. We are in week 8 of our series Hope for Today // Faith for Tomorrow. As we come to the second chapter of 2 Thessalonians, we find the young believers in the same sort of tailspin as Chicken Little's barnyard community. They've been fed misinformation and lies that have left them confused about what they thought they knew, and it's costing them their peace and hope. This teaching was recorded from the gathering of The Heights Church in Denver, CO. To learn more about The Heights Church, you can go to TheHeightsDenver.com Everyone wants to live a life that flourishes but few know the pathway into that kind of life. Most people are living in spiritual, financial, relational and emotional ruin. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us a vision for how we were made to live and serves as our guide on the pathway back to flourishing. As we walk the path with Jesus this Fall, we are going to find that the way into flourishing is different than most people think. In fact, in many ways it is the exact opposite of what we are told in our cultural moment. Jonathan Pennington describes it this way, “The Sermon's answer to the human-flourishing question is that true human flourishing is only available through communion with the Father God through his revealed Son, Jesus, as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit. This flourishing is only experienced through faithful, heart-deep, whole-person discipleship, following Jesus' teachings and life, which situate the disciple into God's community or kingdom.” D.A. Carson calls the Sermon on the mount “Jesus' confrontation with the world.” Each week we will look at a broken vision of flourishing and compare it with Jesus' vision in the Sermon. We will use Jesus' mnemonic device “You have heard that it was said, but I say to you” in order to compare and contrast the world's vision of flourishing with Jesus' vision of flourishing.
