HT1827 - Beyond the Headline Heroes, Part 2 For some reason, I always seem to prefer the lesser known photographers rather than the headline heroes. I prefer the landscapes of Wynn Bullock over Ansel Adams, the portraits of Paul Strand over those of Annie Leibovitz, the daily life photographs of Josef Sudek over those of Dorothea Lange, and the reportage of Josef Koudelka over that of Henri Cartier-Bresson.
HT1826 - Beyond the Headline Heroes, Part 1 It's is our mission here at LensWork to publish the best photographs we can and to share that work with as many people as possible. Notice that sentence does not say, "famous or celebrity photographers." In fact, we specifically look for "ordinary folks" who are producing good work and are not plugged into the publicity machines of photography. Photography is a truly democratic art medium, but that's hard to see when so many publishers, galleries, museums keep publishing the same famous dead guys over and over. All 1800+ episodes of Here's a Thought . . . are available in their entirety to members of LensWork Online, our extensive resource library of our 30-year publishing history. Have you heard the legend of the Headline Heroes? Stories say it's a comedy podcast where they take today’s headlines and create a comic book origin story. I know it sounds ludicrous, but Old Man Jenkins said he heard them talk about Floam/Gak, Discovery Channel, and Drew please come back we need you. Welcome to a brand new episode of the Pop Up Film Cast! The Pop Up Film Cast is a show where, Derek, myself and an esteemed guest dive head first into the mysteriousbottomless box of movies that was left on my doorstep in order to fabricate fictitious film festivals and movie marathons. Each episode we will review a handful of very unique cinematic offerings, tied into a randomly selected genre or sometimes not so randomly selected theme. In the end we set a festival lineup, select a festival name and a pair up some proper eats to truly enjoy the films. This week we skip traditional format and instead dive headfirst into the wondrous world of Jonathan Meowkins aka Captain Hooktail in the most anticipated sequel since Avengers Endgame. Drew Mick returns to help come up with another installment in the franchise, much in the way I assume most Hollywood movies get put together. At least Michael Bay films. Hello everyone. We here at Headline Heroes wanted to make sure you knew we were committed to fighting COVID-19 in our own way. We’ve made sure to drink a minimum of One (1) gallon of Purel per recording session and have banished Tanner to Antarctica to keep a safe social distance. While we wait for this to all blow over listen to us ramble on about Matilda, Big Mouth Billy Bass, and the “Brocial Distance”. PodFix is a network of podcasts, hosted by a wide ranging style of hosts, show formats and genres. Cliche as it may be, we pretty much have something for everyone. Movies, music, improv, storytelling, animals... Varmints to be specific. Shows to make you laugh or question your sanity or teach you something new. For the month of March we have decided to showcase all of that talent in a quick and easy sampler platter. Every weekday this month, a different member of the PodFix Network will be on display. Maybe you already listen to them, so this is a bonus. Maybe you have never gotten around to listening to some of these shows, now's your chance to dig in, but without committing to too much too soon. You'll be committed after. Today's Spotlight: 2 Girls On A Bench (@2GirlsOnaBench) THIS IS 2 GIRLS ON A BENCH! They're two young (at heart) women (44 is the, uh, well, the new 44) working on a screenplay, working full time and trying to be creative on the side and on the weekends. In our 26 years of friendship, (listen when they started this we were girls) whenever they sit on a bench together anywhere in the world, they always see something unique happen. Each episode they take on a writing prompt, snack their woes away and sometimes visit their vault of old ideas. Join as they procrastinate, a lot. Maybe you’ve had writers block. Or really wanted to watch Netflix instead of writing your screenplay, novel, tv series or grocery list. If so, then this is the podcast for you. Subscribe to Headline Heroes, as well as, the PodFix Network feed. Also, leave a rating and review for both where ever you do your podcast listening. Then go out and tell someone else about the shows your are hearing here and the PodFix Network. We are easily found at www.podfixnetwork.com. On Twitter - @podfix. On Facebook - podfixnetwork. Drew Mick is the very model of the podcasting millennial, he joins us to pick up a scientist who’s definitely not a general. We pick up Mordin Solus (doctor, fighter, and salarian), but first we cure a plague (that targets turians and batarians). No stories or worldbuilding this week. Quentin is moving and Daniel is working on some double top secret side projects this week, so we needed a week. Instead of a regular episode, enjoy this spoiler-free-ish review of SOLO. However, there are some spoilers for the Return of the Jedi and the Prequels. We are joined by Mike Sandberg and Ian R. Buck. This is episode was also aired on the Nexus TV and Cinemike. For the full episode, check out their shows. If movies about space aren’t your thing then I highly recommend checking out the Fourth Journal or Headline Heroes. We’ll be back next week with another exciting episode of Double Issue.
