As an actor and filmmaker, Onur Tukel challenges the audience to delve into the frightening parts of who they are by, at times, leading them to live vicariously through his protagonists' colorful experiences. From exploring the joy of mortality in Drawing Blood, to the perils of masculinity in 2001's Ding-a-ling-Less, to a platonic theme of friendship amidst a romantic undertone in Richard's Wedding, the loss of one's identity among the backdrop of a physical manifestation of revenge in Catfight, and apathy transforming into adventure after an encounter with a vampire in Summer of Blood, which also features friend and contemporary Alex Karpovsky, Onur's films are like shining a mirror towards the more intimate and carnal senses. We learn about the power of perspective and its impact on perception in The Misogynists, which features Dylan Baker; psychotic longing for the one that got away in That Cold Dead Look in Your Eyes, which is shot near-exclusively in French; and the connectedness of spirituality during the Pandemic in Scenes from an Empty Church, which stars Kevin Corrigan. His latest projects include the novel Run Werewolf Run, which he authored and illustrated, and will be released in 2025 by Pitchstone Publishing (ironically based in Durham, NC); and a puppet film he directed about a marionette performer which wrapped in 2024. In our conversation, we discussed his collaborations with several actors, including Anne Heche, Sandra Oh, Ariel Kavoussi and Josephine Decker; growing up in North Carolina; the unveiling of psychotherapy's purpose in a cinematic endeavor; and the filmmakers who affected and inspired the origins of cinema in his eyes.Opening Credits: Anitek - Strange Sensations I CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US; Jangwa - Slow Me Down I CC BY 4.0. Becky Ann Baker has played moms—on popular shows like Girls, Ted Lasso and Freaks and Geeks. But pigeonholing her is foolish given her theatrical training and can-do approach to life and career (alongside her equally talented husband, Dylan Baker). She's worked for everyone from Sam Raimi to Steven Spielberg to You can see her right now with Rob Huebel in All Hapy Families on VOD, but if you just wait a bit she'll turn up in another high-profile movie or TV show. What a delight for Leonard and Jessie to spend time in her company.

This twisted tale of love and death begins and ends with Ray, an ordinary man who runs an ordinary business in the fictional town of LaRoy, Texas. He longs for his wife Stacy-Lynn's affections, but Ray discovers that his wife is cheating on him and decides to end his life in a motel parking lot. Just before taking action, a stranger breaks into his car, thinking he is dealing with the killer he hired. Disconcerted by this misunderstanding, Ray ends up accepting the mission, convinced that people will finally respect him. The plan had to be simple. But very quickly Ray finds himself caught in a spiral from which he will have to get out before it is too late… LaRoy, Texas is a complex plot involving love triangles real and fake, blackmail, counter-blackmail and manslaughter duly unfolds around inadvertent detective duo Ray and Skip, who will have to solve the mystery at the heart of their community. LAROY is at once a film about friendships forged from fragile masculinity and a dark Western that probes the aftermath of the financial crisis in the US. Director and writer Shane Atkinson joins us for a conversation on his film's blend of modern film noir, macabre humor and assembling a terrific cast that includes John Magaro, Steve Zahn, Galadriel Stineman, Dylan Baker, and Matthew Del Negro. Book Vs. Movie: "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972)(The Margos are taking this week off for the holidays. Please enjoy this 2019 replay!)At Book Vs. Movie, whenever people say, "Duh--the book is always better than the movie!" the Margos would say, "Yeah--have you ever read Jaws?" Well, now we have another book-to-movie adaptation that features a horrible, racist, sexist, homophobic, and misogynistic novel that became a fun hit film. Sportswriter Paul Gallico helped many stories become excellent films, including Pride of the Yankees, The Snow Goose, and the Musical Stage Carnival! He wrote over 40 books, numerous short stories, and dozens of T.V. and movie scripts. He began his career working for the New York Daily News sports desk and later became a prolific travel writer, spending 10,000 miles on the road in the U.S. for Reader's Digest. In 1969, he published The Poseidon Adventure to little fanfare. Trick 'r Treat is a 2007 American anthology horror comedy film written and directed by Michael Dougherty and produced by Bryan Singer. The film stars Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox. It relates four Halloween horror stories with a common element in them: Sam, a trick-or-treating demon wearing orange footie pajamas with a burlap sack over his head. The character makes an appearance in each of the stories whenever one of the other characters breaks a Halloween tradition.   Despite being delayed for two years and having only a limited number of screenings at film festivals, the film received much critical acclaim and has since garnered a strong cult following.   Tales of Halloween is a 2015 American comedy horror anthology film consisting of ten interlocking segments, each revolving around the titular holiday. Segments were directed by Neil Marshall, Darren Lynn Bousman, Axelle Carolyn, Lucky McKee, Andrew Kasch, Paul Solet, John Skipp, Adam Gierasch, Jace Anderson, Mike Mendez, Ryan Schifrin, Dave Parker and, in his film debut, Jack Dylan Grazer.   The film premiered on July 24, 2015, at the Fantasia International Film Festival, before receiving a limited theatrical release and through video on demand on October 16, 2015, by Epic Pictures.   Opening Credits; Introduction (1.00); Background History (43.50); Trick ‘R Treat (2009) Film Trailer (45.33); Featuring the Presentation (48.07); Let's Rate (1:19.42); Introducing a Film (1:26.34); Tales of Halloween (2015) Film Trailer (1:26.57); Lights, Camera, Action (1:29.02); How Many Stars (2:08.17); End Credits (2:18.01); Closing Credits (2:20.35)   Opening Credits– Epidemic Sound – Copyright . This week you might need to grab a box of tissues and that's not just because of our unrelenting dad sexiness but also because we're going to be getting all emotional in emotions week as we start things off by counting down the top 5 Tearjerkers, the movies that squeezed tears out of the empty space where our souls used to be.Todd Solondz's 1998 black comedy HAPPINESS is a movie so relentlessly dark I had to watch it with night vision goggles on. Sort of focusing on the unhealthy relationship between the Jordan sisters; Helen, a bored celebrity ice queen author with fantasies of sexual violence, Trish, an unfulfilled housewife trapped in a sham marriage and Joy, a sensitive but dim-witted free-spirit searching for love, this is also the kind of movie where mouth-breathing incels lounge around in their underwear making abusive phone calls whilst jacking off, a lonely frump seeking connection murders and dismembers her neighbourhood rapist and the final scene features an 11 year old boy triumphantly announcing they've achieved their first ever orgasm. Not to mention the film's most infamous scenes featuring Dylan Baker's Bill, a predatory psychiatrist which I have in fact now mentioned. HAPPINESS is not a bad movie but it is a deeply unpleasant one, with its depressive mood and view of mankind as putrid, self-involved slaves to their nastiest impulses becoming absolutely over-bearing by the end. Maybe that's the point, this isn't the most profound movie of all time.In our final section of the show we'll be exploring anger via the medium of animated birds and fascist pigs trapped in an endless cycle of violence with Netflix's ANGRY BIRDS SLINGSHOT SERIES.  Slingshot? Slingshit more like.We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. But soon they discover they are not alone on board and that the ship's mission was anything but harmless. Meanwhile, D'avin's memory issues are not helped when he befriends one of the people they find on the vessel: a suspicious custodian answering to the name "Hogan." Will he discover the meaning of Red 17 or will the Killjoys risk their lives to escape his questions? Erik and Justin are both enamored with star Hannah John-Kamen. Erik learns to tell the Ashmore Twins apart. The Trivago guy and the Event Horizon haunt the proceedings. The current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Secret Invasion are litigated. David from Prometheus barges in. Other sci-fi films are also discussed. The pair advise against deep space research vessels. Dylan Baker emerges as the preferred Lizard. The rapport between Aaron Ashmore's John and Luke Macfarlane's D'avin gets praise. The pair will never stop being angry about Battlestar Galactica and they accidentally create a new CBS detective show.
