Staying curious is one of the top skills a sales professional must have in order to succeed in this industry. But why is it so important? My guest, Denise Murtha Bachmann, a sales coach and founder of the Sellovatorz programs, is here to tell you about it in this episode. She's going to share how to flawlessly conduct a discovery call and get to the root cause of a problem to help close a deal. Meet Denise Murtha Bachmann Denise Murtha Bachmann is a sales strategist, coach, and fractional sales leader who helps businesses humanize their sales approach while leveraging AI for smarter selling. With a deep focus on relationships, curiosity, and uncovering the probable root cause, she empowers sales teams and founders to build predictable pipelines and close more deals with authenticity. Through her Sellovatorz programs Denise is redefining modern sales by balancing cutting-edge technology with the human touch buyers demand. Take a Step Back and Slow Down Most sellers try to rush through the sales process to hurry up and close the deal. However, Denise shares that it's better to slow down and ask prospects questions to learn their root problem. Prospective buyers know they have a problem and want a solution to it. But if sellers take the time to help them identify the root cause of the problem, prospects will realize that money isn't a problem when it comes to fixing it. When you give them the ability to see that you're trying to solve the bigger problem, you build a connection with them, which builds trust and credibility with your clients. Working together will help them see that you care about them and make them want to continue through the sales process. Prepare Yourself Before The Call Denise shares that before you jump on a call with a client, you should take the time to educate yourself about them. Here are some things you can do before your discovery call: Have your discovery questions ready. Decide on the difference between a good call and a great call. Understand the client you're looking at: What is their problem and buyer persona? You can use AI tools to help you study your client better. Sales Process Role-Playing Denise and I do some sales role-playing of a startup company competing for the SMB space against HubSpot. I act as the founder, and she guides me through the process by asking questions to help me understand my root problem and how I can compete in this competitive industry. For sales leaders, Denise shares the biggest takeaway to help you determine the root cause for prospects: Lead with a mindset that you have to slow down to speed up. Let go of the metrics and focus on quality over quantity to meet sales goals. "I think that as leaders and sales representatives, we're constantly on the go because we have metrics to meet. However, in today's sales environment, we need to let go of those metrics and focus on quality over quantity." - Denise Murtha Bachmann. Months after Rachel Morin's body is found along a trail the Ma & Pa Trail, her killer is still still on the run. DNA found at the crime scene matched to a home invasion in Los Angeles, but investigators have not been able to match the profile. A video of the man believed to be the suspect, was made public. That video came from the home invasion scene in LA. Morin's family is turning to all options in trying to bring this killer to justice. The family has created a flyer using still images from the doorbell camera footage of the suspect. 10,000 flyers have been sent out to homes and schools near the LA crime scene. Morin family attorney, Randolph Rice, says the reason is that the suspect could have been in high school as early as two years ago. They are hoping a teacher or classmate will recognize the suspect. Just over a year ago, on 28th October, 2022, we did a nursery and childcare special programme, looking at whether the system needs an overhaul. Early this year, the government announced plans to extend the government's existing offer of 30 hours free childcare to working parents of children aged 9-months to two-years-old in England. Beginning in April 2024, funding will be rolled out in stages. Prior to this, only working parents of three and four-year-olds were entitled to the free 30 hours. Now, new BBC News analysis estimates that demand for places at nurseries and childminders is likely to rise by about 15% - equivalent to more than 100,000 additional children in full-time care. Anita dicusses the issues with Neil Leitch, Chief Executive of the Early Years Alliance. Tish Murtha is a celebrated photographer whose images of working-class life in North East England can be found in the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Britain. But in her lifetime, Murtha struggled to find work of any kind. Now her daughter, Ella, has made a film about Murtha's life and work. Ella talks to Anita, along with Jen Corcoran, who produced the documentary. Are you an apple? A pear? An hourglass? Or even an inverted triangle? For years women have been told to dress for their shape. But our shape doesn't stay the same over the course of our lifetime. So, how helpful are these shapes? Anita discusses with Anna Berkeley, stylist and founder of the body mapping app, Think Shape, who believes we should actually be more interested in our proportions, and Shakaila Forbes-Bell, Fashion Psychologist and author of Big Dress Energy. Presented by Anita Rani Producer: Louise Corley
In this episode of Girls On Film, Anna Smith talks to Director Paul Sng and Producer Jen Corcoron about their new feature documentary Tish, which tells the story of working-class photographer Patricia ‘Tish' Murtha who worked to document life in Northeast England in the 1970s and 1980s. Anna then talks to Production Designer Sarah Greenwood and Set Decorator Katie Spencer, who worked together to create the distinctive world of Greta Gerwig's Barbie. Tish was the Opening Night Film of Sheffield Doc Fest 2023 and it is a celebration of a life devoted to exposing social inequality through art. The feature documentary is told from the perspective of Ella Murtha, both as daughter and custodian of the Tish Murtha archive. She retraces her mother's relationship with the photographic medium, from finding her first camera in a local skip, to earning a reputation as the ‘demon snapper' and beyond. Anna talks to Paul and Jen about the inspiration behind the project, the power of having working-class stories told from the inside, and asks about their favourite photographs in the Tish archive. Next on Girls On Film, Anna has a lively conversation with Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer, whose long time collaboration has resulted in multiple Academy Award and BAFTA nominations, and, most recently, the weird, wonderful and instantly recognisable world of Barbie. Sarah and Katie talk about working with Greta Gerwig in the early design stages of the project, following visual prompts like ‘think Gaudí in a blender' when creating Weird Barbie's house, and the film's many and varied visual inspirations. In this episode we let you listen to the only set of start to finish tapes that I am aware of that are available to the public, at least that I could find. These tapes involve Congressman John Murtha , who was targeted but was never indicted. John Murtha would go on and serve long enough after ABSCAM that he would become the longest serving Congressman in Pennsylvania history. I will say that this is a situation that I do not like to do given that Murtha had a long and distinguished career and never was charged, or tried, and certainly never convicted, of any wrongdoing in the case of ABSCAM. So let me just say in this description that we are only using this audio footage because it is the only footage that is available , that we were able to find, that contains an entire meeting between the FBI, the conman, and a sitting member of Congress. All the the other footage is only segments of the sting the FBI ran on the Congressmen. I do feel though that when you listen in on this meeting, with stunningly clear audio, you will get a feel for how these meetings went and how these governmental officials were set up for the ABSCAM sting. Gabby is late filling in for Josh and pays the price, we get into Josh's thighs, and we're visited by our good friend, Randolph Rice, of Rice, Murtha, and Psoras law firm. All of this, plus much more!
Randolph Rice was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was fortunate to attend the University of Virginia on a track and field scholarship (he ran the 400 and 200). After graduation, he returned to Louisiana to begin his law studies at Loyola University New Orleans. At the start of his third year of law school, hurricane Katrina struck, forcing him to move to Maryland, where his wife is from, and finish his studies at the University of Maryland Law School. While at Maryland, he was able to secure a job with the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office, ultimately leading to a position as an Assistant State's Attorney. He stayed with the State's Attorney's Office for three years before hanging out his shingle and starting a private practice focused on criminal defense and personal injury. In 2021, he merged his firm and formed Rice, Murtha, and Psoras Trial Lawyers. The practice now focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice, criminal defense, and trusts and estates. Mr. Rice handles criminal defense and personal injury matters and serves as the managing partner for the firm.
