Episode Notes How much do we really know about the corn we regularly consume...and how familiar are we with those in our surroundings who proudly produce it? Well this week, I bring you the absolute perfect guest to fill in these knowledge and familiarity gaps! She is Kate Pride of Henderson County, who serves as Communications Director with the Kentucky Corn Growers Association. Kate will offer insight into her extensive background on the farm, describe her path to the KCGA, and explain the nonprofit's commendable mission. She'll also shed light on corn's vital role in fueling industries across Kentucky such as ethanol and bourbon, summarize unique KCGA programs, and detail the perks of organizational membership. Do not hesitate to email Kate with any inquiries about our conversation at kate@kycorn.org. Additional information about the KCGA is also readily available via the web page linked here: https://kycorn.org/. Find out more at https://blabbin-in-the-bluegrassblabbi.pinecast.co
This week on the podcast, it's The Earful's two new interns Thomas Farnham and Genevieve Victoria Gorain. They share their bucket lists for Paris for their two-month stay in Paris. I found it quite interesting to hear the perspectives of American university students on the City of Light, not least because my typical guests are a bit older. We'll check back in on them in a couple months to see how they fared. Here's the post with all ten ideas they mentioned in the episode. Also mentioned in this episode: The Earful Everywhere podcast (currently in Italy): https://theearfultower.substack.com/p/its-here-the-official-launch-of-the Our walking tours of Paris: http://www.theearfultower.com/tours Music by Pres Maxson. *********** The Earful Tower exists thanks to support from its members. In a very special non-anniversary episode, the Earful Gang is here to break down what's going on in an increasingly chaotic climactic action sequence. Roland's got The Device, The Device has helpful hazardous materials warnings, Egypt/Michigan has a gnarly pressure differential, and Griffin has some very mean drawings of Diane Lane. One more thing: we all have a possible Ghostbuster Situation. This episode also includes important information about the YouTube Original Series "Impulse: From the World of Jumper", the famous segment "March Towards 2018", and a musical pre-show (musical pre-show is not included in the podcast feed).
Earful enters 2025 with an exciting special guest (Trevor Adamo), and an exciting new medium (videogames, as we cover "Jumper: Griffin's Story" (2008)). And in a stroke of luck, our special guest is in fact an expert in jumper-based videogames. Analysis of the movie also takes place, as we anticipate airports, inspect the Big Board, track Roland's race (?) against the clock, and debate whether David or Griffin is the hero of the movie. Featuring an exciting mpv vs VLC update, and also the famous segments "With Fresh Eyes" and "How Does It End?"

Let's take a closer look at the Père Lachaise cemetery of Paris, the most visited necropolis on earth. All kinds of famous and interesting people are buried here including Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde… and about a million more. Some 3.5 million people check it out annually. In this episode you'll hear from author Joe Start, who wrote a book on Père Lachaise called The Chairfather - a literal translation of the cemetery's French name. This part of the episode is taken from the Earful archives. Joe visited the tombstones countless times to research the book and interview the dead, and today on The Earful Tower he shares his tips on which graves to find, what to avoid, and how not to act if you're a tourist there. And if you like what you hear, you can find the Chairfather book here or on ebook here. At the end of the episode, Marie Segura from My Private Paris talks more about the cemetery. In fact, this whole season of The Earful Tower is brought to you by My Private Paris, which is an award-winning travel company creating deluxe itineraries for Paris and beyond. Here's a proposal for us (that is, us and the listeners): in the manner of the famous "Marvel Team-Up" comic, how about we all "team up", by listening to this, the 12th five minutes of "Jumper"! We acknowledge those we lost since the last ep, do some mpv diagnostics, explore some tasty track names from "Jumper (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)", puzzle over a long-lived jump scar, and check out some cool cars in Tokyo (both honking and non-)! Some key updates on Griffin's cool jumper lair gamer library. Also featuring the famous segments "thisisalan.com: Let's Check the Text", "Catching Up on Script Departures", "Let's Talk Timeline", and "We Check the Times"

It's the end of 2024 and to wave it a fond farewell, Thos has again insolently presumed you might fancy a celebratory bumper-sized quiz episode. If he's accidentally correct, then this is the one for you - a suitably festive mix of musicals trivia deliciously flavoured with songs galore. Go on, ignore the turkey for a few minutes and pit your wits against everyone's least favourite quizmaster!
Another superfun LIVE episode this week, recorded at the Cheerful Earful podcast festival with actual comedy legend KERRY GODLIMAN, who chats - amongst other things - about her time trailing boys from buses… As always, if you want to find out more, we are over at crushedbymcs.substack.com – you can join as a member for an ad-free version of the show if that's your bag, or, just come and hang out for bonus content and vibes. In this special live episode of Join the Docs, recorded amid the lively buzz of the Cheerful Ear Podcast Festival, our beloved medical duo—surgeon and pun enthusiast Jonathan Sackier, and GP-turned-stand-up-comedian Nigel Guest—step out from behind the mic and onto the stage to bring their comedic clinic to a live audience. It's not your typical episode; instead of their usual studio setup, Jonathan and Nigel dive into the quirks and curiosities of healthcare with real-time reactions, laughter, and applause from an audience eager to join in the fun.As they entertain a crowd brimming with podcast fans, The Docs revisit some of their most memorable moments from previous episodes, recounting tales that left listeners in stitches (metaphorically speaking). From the bizarre patient who thought a hard boiled egg belonged where the sun don't shine to the lady who was convinced she was a poached egg, these fan-favourite stories come to life in front of an audience who's hanging on every word. The festival atmosphere brings a new energy to the show as Jonathan and Nigel invite the audience to share their own medical misadventures, guess the most obscure diagnoses, and laugh along in real time. It's a fitting setting for The Docs who firmly believe that laughter is the best medicine—whether it's curing a rough day or simply lightening the load of medical life. So, grab a seat and get ready to join in on the laughter, camaraderie, and quick-witted exchanges that make Join the Docs a crowd favourite. This episode, recorded live, is bound to deliver a generous dose of humour with just the right prescription for fun—no copay required.—--DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed on Join the Docs are those of Dr. Nigel Guest, Jonathan Sackier and other people on our show. In this episode of Eat My Globe, our host, Simon Majumdar, looksinto the history of corn. From its origins in Mexico, and its spread throughout the Americas and the rest of the world, corn has played a role in trade, through migration of peoples–whether voluntary or involuntary–and through colonization. And particularly, corn, and the Native peoples knowledge in growing and preparing corn, played a role in the survival of the early colonists in what would become the United States of America. But corn has uses beyond food including in the making of toys and furniture, as currency, and livestock feed. So, make sure to tune in now.
