In this episode, I sit down with my brother from another mother, Idahosa Ness. Idahosa is a legend, and taught himself to speak a bazillion languages using a method he invented called the mimic method (links below.) Here, we discuss the embodiment (both physical and spiritual) that's necessary to gain any skill and why we have to return to that paradigm if we want to stay sane. This is a MUST LISTEN! My new episode “Becoming Consummate with Reality” with Idahosa Ness is out now - so let's dive in! Idahosa Ness Mimic Method: Mimic Method Learn more about your ad choices. Idahosa Ness is a polyglot, musician, and founder of The Mimic Method for learning languages. After traveling to Mexico at the age of 17 without knowing a word of Spanish, and struggling to connect with locals, he worked hard to perfect his accent by understanding the sonority of the language. He created The Mimic Method and used this approach to learn five other languages. He is oftentimes mistaken as a native speaker of the languages he has learned. Since then, he has helped lots of students to use principles of music to perfect their pronunciation in order to help them overcome the language barriers while building meaningful relationships in a foreign language. Idahosa has created a truly revolutionary method for learning languages. It is probably the exact opposite of how you have been told to learn English your entire life. I truly recommend you listen to this episode until the end, If you can take some notes, and try at least one of his recommendations. Idahosa explains how he reactivates a language when he needs to start using it again. We talked about his unique approach for learning vocabulary, which is completely personalized to the learner's needs and goals. As well as why you don't need to worry about learning grammar. Idahosa says that awareness is foundational. It can help you to overcome fear, awkwardness, and frustration when speaking. He explains how. He discussed how the international phonetic alphabet can be a useful tool to use to create a map of what accurate speaking and listening look like. And he explained why it is never too late to start using this method. No matter where you are on your learning journey, you can use his Mimic Method and the tips you are about to hear to improve your English listening and speaking. Idahosa Ness shares his experience growing up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, playing violin and freestyle rapping. He then takes us on his travel journey, starting with his first trip to Mexico, and explains how that ignited his passion for language learning so he could more meaningfully connect with people. He then shares how he used his background in music and freestyle rapping to develop “The Mimic Method” for learning languages by ear. He explains how he used the Mimic Method to teach himself Spanish, Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese, and then started teaching it to others. He then shares how freestyle rapping played a significant role in helping him develop fluency in 6 foreign languages. He tells the story of participating in a weekly hip hop cypher in Portuguese while living in Rio, as well as his experience attending a hip hop battle in Cali, Colombia. He reflects on the hip hop culture in South America and how it differs from the U.S. He also breaks down the Mimic Method, explains the reason it is so important to understand the sounds and perfect the pronunciation first, and then goes on to share the step by step process for becoming fluent in a new language by ear. And, finally, Idahosa reflects on what travel means to him at this point in his life. FULL SHOW NOTES AVAILABLE AT: www.TheMaverickShow.com

Idahosa Ness is the founder of Mimic Method, a language learning program with a twist. Actually, a flip. Mimic Method flips the language learning game right around by effectively training your ear from the very beginning. It's currently available for Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Europe), Russian, and Spanish with more languages coming soon. In this podcast episode, Idahosa explains how most traditional language learning today is focused on learning by eye whereas his method begins from day one with the ear. He also touches on why so many would-be bilinguals fail in learning a language because of the traditional approach many textbooks and school programs are based on. Mimic Method students learn the elemental sounds of a language and, in doing so, are able to advance much more quickly conversationally in the long run. In this episode, Idahosa explains how Mimic Method came to be as well as how it works.

Idahosa Ness has an amazing video where he raps in 8 different languages in 4 different cameras. He had to time each part of the song perfectly all in different languages. Really cool stuff! We talk about how he uses his Mimic method to be able to get the right accent and be understood right away. He says that with a better accent people are happier to talk to you and your interactions can be much more pleasant. Also, you are perceived as more fluent and smarter. The way to do it is to think of the language as music and to learn the muscle movements behind the way that they sing it.
Idahosa Ness runs “The Mimic Method,” a website that promises to help you learn foreign languages quickly by immersing you in their sounds and pronunciations. We talk to Idahosa about his experiences with cannabis and other psychedelics, and how they have improved his freestyle rapping, increased his motivation to learn new languages, and helped the growth of his business. Taking IELTS? Get our free IELTS video training now Today you’ll learn how to let go of your grammar mistakes and your obsession with perfection and you’ll learn how to finally speak like a native! Today we have Idahosa Ness who is the founder of the Mimic Method and he helps learners reach fluency through song lyrics and mimicking the language. What does it mean to “mimic” English speakers? To “mimic” means to copy. When you learn English, don’t learn from the written word. Learn from what you hear. Try to surround yourself with the language and repeat back what you hear. Don’t think about conjugating verbs in your head or making a mistake. When you focus too much on conjugating, it restricts your ability to take in new sounds in your head. There will be no space in your mind. Come back to our site for a summary
