On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we are looking at what Daniel saw, and brother, it's an eyeful. So incredible was the vision of the prophet Daniel that it made him physically ill for many days after receiving it. Daniel has much in common with John, and in this study, we go deep-diving for bible truths that are rejected by much of today's mainstream bible teachers and commentators, and bring them up to the light. The book of Daniel contains incredible riches if bible truth is valuable to you, and one of the greatest things it shows us is the necessity of a Pretribulation Rapture of the Church, and the absolute premillennial foundation of end times bible prophecy.

For the next three weeks, we're going to take a look at the Book of Revelation. More than any other book in the Bible, St. John's Revelation has been the ground for more debates, misunderstanding, fear-mongering, and schism. In this series, we're all going to take a deep breath, set aside the images and assumptions we bring to the text, and find answers to some key questions. What is apocalyptic literature? How did St. John's churches hear and receive this letter? Where did the idea of a Rapture come from? What was John trying to communicate, and how can we hear and receive it now? These questions are at the heart of this new series. Welcome to The Apocalypse Revisited! New episodes every Thursday! We continue this olivet discourse, where Jesus gave the teaching and denounced the temple. John is the only gospel that doesn't record it. However, a school of thought is that John's Revelation is that discourse. Join us as we discuss another school of thought that instead of the end of the world, famine and false prophets this discourse was the sack of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.

We continue our Easter Revelations series on this Graduate Recognition Sunday by dropping in on the portion of John's Revelation found in chapter 7, verses 9-17. Through the vibrant imagery of the worship of the Lamb, we are confronted with the reality that we can be shepherd or sheep, but not both. If we are not fully committed to being led by Jesus Christ, allowing him to be our shepherd, we put at risk the rewards we have been promised through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ our Lord. Drawing on the experiences of our graduating seniors (who are referenced in several places in today's message) we are challenged to ask ourselves if we have learned the vital lessons of the example of Christ and allowed ourselves to experience the absolutely unbridled joy that comes from joining with the church eternal, universal, and triumphant to sing the praises of our God and King.

And the four living creatures ... never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!" (Revelation 4:8) "Holy, Holy, Holy" St. John's Revelation brings us a picture of the throne room of Heaven. Surrounding God's throne, four living creatures worship God, singing as we do, "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, all Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea" (LSB #507.4). That's the point of creation. "The heavens declare the glory of God" (Psalm 19:1). The Psalms are filled with encouragement for all God's works to praise Him. Because that is what Heaven is--one eternal worship service, praising God for everything He has done. Of course, the biggest thing that God has done is give us salvation. We sing "Holy, Holy, Holy" because He has made us holy by giving us the perfect life, death and resurrection of Jesus and everything that He has accomplished for us. You have been declared holy by God because Jesus died for you. Think about that as you praise God for how holy He is. Amen.

IF ONE LOOKS HARD ENOUGH, ONE COULD MAKE THE CASE NO BOOK IN THE BIBLE IS MORE OPEN TO SENSATIONALISM AND MISINTERPRETATION than Revelation. The apocalyptic nature of the text along with the graphical imagery leads one in many different directions, many of which can be terrifying if one is not familiar with the language and imagery of the day. Also, given the commonly-accepted (but simply inaccurate) understanding that Revelation is written as a series of events occurring chronologically to scare people into confessing Christ as Lord before he comes again, one can easily find themselves truly living in fear as certain things come to pass. Looking at Revelation from another perspective, however, finds one discovering not a graphic, scary, fear-mongering warning to 'turn or burn' sensational supermarket tabloid full of fodder that is designed to grab headlines. Indeed, Revelation is full of hope, joy, assurance, and salvation. This Sunday we begin a series where we will look at six portions of Revelation, discovering some essentials for being a faithful follower of the resurrected Christ. We see early in John's Revelation five verses that help us set the stage for diving into the glory of Christ's presence. Verses four through eight of chapter one remind us of some absolutely key concepts that, when we hold fast to them, put us in a position to where instead of living in fear of the second coming of Christ we live in hopeful anticipation for the fulfillment of God's work of reconciliation, redemption, restoration, and renewal between the creator and creation.

Series: Familiar Psalms Original Broadcast: September 2007 "He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." (Psalm 1:3) The man who walks in the counsel of the Lord is like a tree planted by streams of water. Not just any tree, but a massive oak tree sitting beside a crystal clear stream of water. That's the man who walks in the counsel of God. The image of a tree comes through the entire Bible. Adam and Eve start in the Garden of Eden where they are to take care of the trees. One tree in the middle was the Tree of Life. In St. John's Revelation of Heaven, the Tree of Life stands in the midst of Heaven. From the throne, the River of Life extends. On both sides of the river, the Tree of Life bears its fruit each month. The image of the tree by the stream of water is one of security and peace. In Christ Jesus, we have that security and peace. We who have been baptized in the River of Life find ourselves in the shade of the Tree of Life. Everything we do prospers because we are found in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Apocalypse: Johns Revelation of Jesus Christ Pt10 "Outer Court" on Battle Lines | www.warn-usa.com | WIBR/WARN Radio The Outer Court, the safe place for the gentiles. They were outside of it, separated from the promises. Yet, it became true that God would justify the heathen through faith! Just as Abraham believed God, so too; the Gentiles would come to the same faith and believe God. We find in John's Revelation the plan of God converging on the heathen in the world. There are those Gentiles, formerly Heathen who now are justified by Faith in Christ Jesus. These are now firmly in Spiritual Israel, knowing the promises, the plan, and the Hope before them. But there are also many other Gentiles, true heathen who are without God, without Hope, and in this world are enemies of Jesus Christ. This leads up to the Beast of Revelation 13 and his control of the world. He will lead the armies of the heathen nations [unsaved, unjustified Gentiles] against the Messiah. But first these unsaved, unjustified heathen will come at Israel, make war against all Christians, and serve the beast. This is the last great stand of the heathen and the end of the Gentile reign in the world. For the Messiah comes to put them down. His kingdom comes.

A rather prominent Christian pastor was quoted in a popular magazine as saying this about the Jesus we find in Revelation: “In Revelation, Jesus is a pride-fighter with a tattoo down His leg, a sword in His hand and a commitment to make someone bleed. This is a guy I can worship. I cannot worship the hippy, diaper, halo Christ, because I cannot worship a guy I can beat up.” Sadly, his thoughts about the Jesus of Revelation are not entirely unique. Some have used the book of Revelation to depict a violent God, who supports violent acts and who ultimately brings the world to a violent end. When we dig in and read John's Revelation responsibly, however, we find something altogether different. Special thanks to Dave Johnson, Eugene Peterson, Barbara R. Rossing, Brian Zahnd, NT Wright, Greg Boyd, Michael J. Gorman, Larry Helyer, Ed Cyzewski and Vernard Eller for their contributions to this series. Revelation may be the most curious book of the Bible. It has been the basis for books like the Left Behind Series, and also the cause of many Christians just throwing their hands up in the air in frustration because it's too difficult to understand. Alan Storey, however, says it has become his favorite book of the Bible. Understanding Revelation in the context during which it was written teaches us that it is not about some future cosmic rapture, but about the truth that God's kingdom will overcome all the forces of oppression, violence and death. In short, God's kingdom will win in the end. Come hear Alan teach this hopeful, life-giving message of John's Revelation.
