A v čem by u operace Pavučina měli zpozornět i Evropané?
PRESS REVIEW – Monday, June 2: French papers discuss the "day of jubilation" after PSG's Champions League win. Next, the media analyse Ukraine's "bold" strike on Russia's military aviation. Also, papers report on Bulgaria's fight against the adoption of the euro. Finally, we bring you some health news: from Ozempic's questionable long-term effects to good news in cancer treatment research. After Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory on Saturday, the story is still on the front pages of most French dailies. Left-wing Libération writes that "Paris is well worth a jubilation". The paper says that the win resonated across France all weekend. In a similar tone, Le Parisien's front page says "Day of jubilation". The Parisian daily is talking about Sunday's festivities across Paris, and how fans got to celebrate with their beloved football stars. The paper calls it "A sweet madness". But with two people dead and hundreds arrested, the victory wasn't that sweet. Right-wing daily Le Figaro also mentions the post-win violence on its front page, where the title of an editorial reads "Paris can no longer be a party". The article condemns the aftermath of the match and all the "sirens, knives, injured police officers and even deaths". It says that "thugs" and "gangs" tried to invade the ring road around Paris and the Champs-Élysées. “The issue is no longer one of security, it's one of culture," says the article, blaming "uncivilised barbarians" for causing the destruction. An article in L'Opinion says that "on Saturday evening, euphoria gave way to chaos". It asks how a football win can "generate such an impulse for hatred and destruction", adding that scenes in London, Madrid or Manchester after a victory aren't the same. After a major attack on Russia's military aviation on Sunday, Kyiv claims it has destroyed nearly 40 aircraft and struck thousands of kilometres inside Russia's borders. The Financial Times calls it a "bold" strike "deep inside Russian territory". The Ukrainian intelligence service, the SBU, says they'd been preparing the operation for over a year. In an opinion piece, The Washington Post says that "Ukraine just rewrote the rules of war". It adds that the Ukrainians revealed a vulnerability that shows the need for a "massive investment in counter-drone systems". Ukrainian daily The Kyiv Post writes that US President Donald Trump wasn't given a heads-up about the attack. An official told the paper that the operation was "purely Ukrainian" and the US didn't have anything to do with it. As for reactions from the Russian side, Radio Free Europe's team in Siberia spoke to Russians there, who "appeared to be shaken". "Now the war has reached us too," they told the paper. The article writes that many Russians had thus far only seen and felt the war from afar. Moving to Eastern Europe, Bulgarians have been protesting against the adoption of the euro. The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency reports that protests have been held in several cities across the country. The demonstrators are asking for a referendum vote so that they can choose whether to keep the Bulgarian lev or switch to the euro. Radio Free Europe reports that it will be decided this week whether the euro will be adopted from next year, with the European Commission expected to greenlight the move. The paper notes that this comes despite the many protesters who carry Russian flags and have expressed anti-European sentiments. Some Bulgarians say they fear that adopting the euro will lead to even more corruption and inflation in the country. According to a survey, 50 percent of Bulgarians are against the euro's adoption. We finish with some health news. British daily The Standard reports that using weight loss drugs might not lead to the desired effects, according to research. It talks about side effects like so-called Ozempic teeth or oral health problems and more serious health issues like hypoglycemia. The results are also not long-lasting, as a lot of people who stop taking the drug return to their original weight within a year. On the brighter side, the fight against cancer is advancing. The Financial Times reports that AstraZeneca has unveiled a drug that can stop mutating tumours before they start to grow. AstraZeneca said that it hopes to become "the number one cancer company globally". The Independent writes about another study, this time on colon cancer. Researchers have found that regular exercise can reduce the risk of death by more than a third. The scientists hope the findings will show doctors that including exercise plans is crucial for cancer patients. You can catch our press review every morning on France 24 at 7:20am and 9:20am (Paris time), from Monday to Friday.
Love it or hate it, everyone's talking about Blood of Hercules. Jasmine Mas's catapulting from shifter romance to new adult romantasy shocked booktok and normal people alike. And intrepid bottom-feeding trend chasers Jay and Andrew are no exception. Having faced books that left more to be desired and others that are ontologically evil, they were ready for anything—anything BUT what was about to be thrown at them. Brooding boys, sassy snakes, enemies to lovers back to enemies, unambiguously unwanted advances, and a really “memorable” protagonist. Step into the SBU club room and join Jay and Andrew in a much-too-long discussion covering everything from trailer park thermodynamics to the use of parentheses in prose to the dynamics of fantasy vs reality to unqualified and over-simplified explorations of feminism to who is and who is not welcome in my shed. Not gonna lie, this one's a little intense.

Rosyjski generał nadzorujący siły ochrony przed bronią radioaktywną, biologiczną i chemiczną został zabity w zamachu, do którego dokonania przyznała się ukraińska służba bezpieczeństwa (SBU). The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/05/2024): 3:05pm- In a video posted to his X social media page, Governor Phil Murphy (D-NJ) advocated for allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in school board elections in New Jersey. Gov. Murphy explained: “Young voters are the future of American democracy” and that by lowering the voting age, the state will be “inspiring our young neighbors to become lifelong voters.” 3:10pm- On Sunday, leadership in the U.S. Senate released the details of a bipartisan bill designed to reduce illegal border crossings, send $60 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, and $14.1 billion in aid to Israel. The 370-page bill mandates a border shutdown if more than 5,000 migrants unlawfully enter the U.S. in a single day. However, the shutdown cannot exceed 270 days in the bill's first year, 225 in the second year, and 180 days in the third year. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has said the proposed “Senate border bill will not receive a vote in the House.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has echoed a similar sentiment—and announced the House will instead vote on a standalone bill later this week that will provide $14.3 billion of aid to Israel. 3:30pm- On Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, journalist Steve Kornacki revealed a new NBC poll which indicates Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump currently has a commanding head-to-head lead over President Joe Biden (D)—47% to 42%. According to Kornacki, it's the largest lead Trump has had over Biden since NBC began collecting data on Trump-Biden head-to-head presidential races in 2019. Trump's lead increases to 6-points when considering third-party candidates likely to run in the 2024 presidential race. 3:40pm- Dan McLaughlin—Senior Writer at National Review Online and Fellow at National Review Institute—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his most recent editorial, “A Major Showdown Over the Power of Agencies to Make Up Crimes.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/01/a-major-showdown-over-the-power-of-agencies-to-make-up-crimes/ 4:05pm- While speaking with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump hinted that he is considering South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott to be his Vice President. Trump also denied rumors that his campaign team reached out to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about the prospect of being VP. 4:15pm- While appearing on Fox News with host Maria Bartiromo, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem warned President Joe Biden against the federalization of the National Guard. The far-left has called on the President to utilize that tactic to upend Texas Governor Greg Abbott's strategies to secure the U.S. Southern border. 4:30pm- According to reports, rapper Lil Pump recently got a giant tattoo of Donald Trump's face on his leg. Meanwhile, on Real Time with Bill Maher, rapper Killer Mike refused to endorse Joe Biden for reelection. In 2016 and 2020, Killer Mike supported Bernie Sanders. Rich jokes, can Trump win the famous rapper vote in 2024? 4:45pm- Reacting to the bipartisan Senate border proposal, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL) told Fox News' Harris Faulkner that she is “absolutely shocked that anyone is even considering this garbage package.” She continued: “Biden is going to be putting more pressure on the Senate and the House—going to the American people trying to sell this knock off of a border deal. It's like they were trying to sell us on Gucci, but really it's the package that the guy around the corner in the alley pulled out of his trunk.” 4:50pm- The New York Post writes: “Sex workers must now compete with artificial intelligence, as the world's first AI brothel pioneers the future of sex. At first glance, Berlin's Cybrothel operates like a traditional escort business. Private suites can be booked for a few hours, or overnight, and clients choose their companion from a list of seductive names like Bimbo or Ms Schmidt. But the Berlin bordello's futuristic edge lies with its workers. At Cybrothel, patrons share company with life-size sex dolls instead of human sex workers. Bimbo, Kokeshi and Co can't move or speak, but clients interact with them in the virtual realm; donning VR headsets to watch immersive 4D porn featuring their favourite sex-bot.” You can read the full, ridiculous report here: https://nypost.com/2024/02/04/lifestyle/inside-cybrothel-the-worlds-first-ai-brothel-using-sex-dolls/ 5:05pm- Jim Tankerslay of The New York Times writes: “President Biden, whose approval rating has suffered amid high inflation, is beginning to pressure large grocery chains to slash food prices for American consumers, accusing the stores of reaping excess profits and ripping off shoppers. ‘There are still too many corporations in America ripping people off: price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation,' Mr. Biden said last week in South Carolina. Aides say those comments are a preview of more pressure to come against grocery chains and other companies that are maintaining higher-than-usual profit margins after a period of rapid price growth. Economic research suggests the cost of eggs, milk and other staples—which consumers buy far more frequently than big-ticket items like furniture or electronics—play an outsize role in shaping Americans' views of inflation. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: Jim Tankerslay of The New York Times writes: “President Biden, whose approval rating has suffered amid high inflation, is beginning to pressure large grocery chains to slash food prices for American consumers, accusing the stores of reaping excess profits and ripping off shoppers. Welcome to this revisited episode of the True Fiction Project Podcast. I have the privilege of speaking with Les Bird about his fascinating history as a Marine Police Officer in 1976 during the Hong Kong Handover. Les has now written two books about his 21 years in the Marines and his work in helping Vietnamese refugees arrive safely in Hong Kong following the end of the Vietnam War. He recounts specific memories of rescuing refugees from hired criminals and pirates and details the less than ideal conditions of travel that so many Vietnamese braved in order to make it to Hong Kong. Also hear a short story based on Les' Marine adventures called, The Dawn of the Southern Boundary, from Anna Marie Evans. IN THIS EPISODE:[02:41] Who are the “Boatpeople” referenced in Les' book and why were they fleeing to Hong Kong?[07:25] Why did Hong Kong welcome these refugees when other countries were not as willing and what was Les' role as a Marine Police Officer?[10:44] What was Les' connection with a former soldier in South Vietnam?[16:23] What was the condition of the refugees as they arrived in Hong Kong?[19:15] Les recalls memories from his time as an officer and the corruption that he encountered.[29:45] Short story: The Dawn of the Southern Boundary by Anna Marie EvansKEY TAKEAWAYS:It's estimated that starting in 1975, between 1 and 2 million people fled by boat over the next 15 years from Vietnam to Hong Kong. Following the Vietnam War, Hong Kong became a hub for Vietnamese refugees to find safety and through the United Nations, be relocated to other countries like the US, Canada, and Australia. Many Vietnamese refugees arrived in Hong Kong in unsuitable conditions as they were crammed by the thousands on boats for four to five weeks with no sanitation and little fresh air or food.
