Steve Optix is a, primarily, vinyl DJ, whose tastes span many genres. As a teenager, Steve was heavily influenced by the sounds he picked up emanating from the pirate radio station Kiss FM. Steve has had the chance to play all sorts of sets, beginning in 1993, playing hardcore, jungle & techno. In later years, his refusal to be tied to one genre, his sets would see him playing house, big beat, trip hop, d’n’b, and trance. No stranger to the radio airwaves himself, Steve has had shows on Kane FM, Spectrum FM, and Red Light Radio in Amsterdam.  Yo! What's goin on people? Hope you're all good and you're keeping safe... and sane! This podcast is slghtly different to usual, I thought it'd be a great opportunity to give live streaming a go. So, this was recorded whilst being streamed live on facebook, which was really fun, and kind of reminiscent of when I used to do these live on Kane FM. Seems like people have been using their time wisely during the lockdown, so this episode is packed with loads of awesome new releases. Fancy some sunshine sounds? this mix is pure soulful house goodness and is ideal for a summers day in the park, sitting by the pool or having a sundown cocktail. Strangely enough this is my first soulful house mix and this vibe takes me back to early 2000s and the era that was Rowsley Lodge, House FM, Unknown FM, Camden Palace, Bobby and Steve Soul Heaven, movers and shakers in bond street, the buffalo bar in highbury corner and everything else soulful house related. Mr Mole, Mundis, Han, Jenwah, Stace, Dee, Rob, Sam, Tracy Luv, Matt Nash, Piglet, Olner and the man himself Mikey Matt you all knows it! The music on this podcast is what i call proper house music and while it reminds me of that era because every club or bar you went to was playing soulful tunes, these tunes i have used are fresh. The inspiration and many of the tunes on this mix comes from my man Choci. One of the pioneers of electronic music in London in the late 80s and early 90s for years Choci sold vinyls from his west end Choci's Chewns record shop to all the biggest DJs in the land Oakenfold, Tong, Rampling, Norman Jay, Bukem, Goldie and the like. He also DJ'd all over London and the world and had various residencies including Escape from Samara at the Fridge in Brixton. If you look on any flyer from the day Choci was there headlining and those guys previously mentioned were often supporting him. Choci is a musical legend inspired by the music not commercials, check out some of Choci's art and you can catch the man himself dj'ing on tuesdays live on Kane FM for Team Robbo. It took me a few tunes to settle into this mix as some of the early stuff is recorded live so has varying BPMs, there are 4 or 5 exclusive Choci edits/remixes on this mix. I will bang a track list up when i have time. Enjoy the tunes, just let the mix roll it builds and builds, sit back enjoy the sunshine, hopefully your sundowner and turn it up! Fires begins its journey with a squinting atmosphere, accompanied with precise poly rhythmic sounds and glitches to create a back bone for snappy beats, hard hitting subs and tight saw and bleep edits! Making the no.2 spot on the bundle is Relapse. Axon seriously goes in on this one catering more for the dancefloor with a faster paced energetic vibe! Captivate yourself in Relape as it rolls out with accurate percussion, droning bass and hot stepping beats! All of which stays originally firm to his sound yet switches it up a notch or two which is exactly what we like. . .Nice! Stripping things back a bit is Ice. Starting things off we are treated to more of Axon's signature sound as this techy flavour marches down the line with pitched perfect drums, squelching synthesis sounds and pumping sub bass! Redial comes in the shape of a more broken beat number, whilst still being eligible for the D&B spectrum. Minimal soundscapes begin to arise to form a backdrop for grooving drums, rich flows and hard stabbing basses! Remarkable stereo imaging techniques keep the dynamics of the track interesting and with the production stepping up every few bars or so, we think its safe to say that this one is sure to get heads bouncing around dancefloors the world over!
