After years of searching, rebellion, and living life on his own terms, Joe eventually found himself working in law enforcement in New York City — still searching for something deeper.Everything changed when a Christian partner continually challenged him with one simple question: “Are you saved?”What followed was a journey through Scripture, Christian radio teachings, and a life-changing meeting with a pastor on a New York pier where Joe finally surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. When it comes to podcast strategies to grow your podcast, one strategy that often gets overlooked (because it takes time) is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Now people are starting to market a "New" thing known as PSO (Podcast Search Optimization).Podcast Search Optimization VS Search Engine OptimizationSo what is the difference? In reality not much. Tools like Podseo and PSO and Ausha show you information on how often keywords are being search in Apple and Spotify (and others). SEO tools show what people are searching for in Google and other places (YouTube, TikTok, and more). So THE question is, do people search differently in a Podcast App vs how they search Google? For me, I don't think so. I might just type a keyword "Podcasting Best Practices" where in Google I would type "Podcasting Best Practices Podcast."Keyword Research Boils Dow To ThisFind a keyword that has a fair number of people searching for (somewhere between 20-100 searches), and see how much competition it has. Instead of trying to score for a really popular keyword, score multiple times with less popular (but still be sought after) key words with less competition. Mom said "Don't go play in traffic," but that's what you need to do - but no on the free way. What is Your Domain Authority?SEMRush (a great suite of tools) has a domain authority checker.Tools To Boost Your Podcast SEO on the WebFree Keyword Tool (That Sucks IMHO)https://www.wordstream.com/keywordsGoogle Keyword Tool (Inside of Adsense Account)https://ads.google.comGo to Tools > Planning > Keyword Planner (Free and unlimited use)Keywords Everywhere Extension for Chrome and Firefox $7/month. If you give me seven days to test the tool, give me access to ALL OF IT. I mean every marketer knows that you give it to the customer and let them "get hooked" so when their trial is over they will purchase.I couldn't do that as much of the tools spotlighted required me to upgrade. Boo.That being said it does show how much a keyword is searched for (not as specific as some tools for web seo). It also shows you how hard to competition is.Keep in mind that you need to give your dashboard 24 hours to show some statistics in your dashboard.Ausha PSO (affiliate)PodSEOThis is from Andrea De Marsi (Co-founder of Spreaker) and Francesco Baschieri (Co-founder of Spreaker) and it has a similar feature set to the ausha tool. You can save 10% using the coupon schoolofpodcasting. (affiliate)I thought it was very cool that Podseo alerted me to the mistake that I had accidentally listed my show twice in Spotify (I moved from Libsyn to Captivate - nuff said). It has some cool episode planners, and is cheaper than Ausha PSO. Their AI tools looks at your episodes and recommend future ideas and then helps you plan them, and has a calendar showing when the episodes were released. They also can send you daily updates on your rankings or your competition.Check it out at podseo.com and use the coupon schoolofpodcasting to save 10%Because of My Podcast: Paul ColliganPaul is a huge theater nerd, and loves the musical Chess. Week 49 of Ted Gioia's Immersive Humanities list brings three modern French thinkers into conversation: Simone de Beauvoir, Michel Foucault, and René Girard. Unlike many earlier weeks in this project, these readings aren't novels or unified texts—they're philosophical excerpts that stand largely on their own. So rather than forcing a single theme, I consider how each of these writers might still be shaping the world we live in today.Beauvoir's The Second Sex asks why “man” is treated as the default while woman becomes the “other,” raising questions that still echo in modern debates about biology, identity, and women's health. It even makes an appearance with an interaction I had with ChatGPT!Foucault's “Eye of Power” examines surveillance and the famous “Panopticon,” showing how systems of observation quietly shape behavior. This is an idea that feels spookily prescient in our world of cameras, cookies, and algorithms. Finally, René Girard's theory of mimetic desire and scapegoating offers a striking explanation for why humans compete, blame, and sometimes unite against a chosen victim. Spoiler: I really love Girard.LINKTed Gioia/The Honest Broker's 12-Month Immersive Humanities Course (paywalled!)My Amazon Book List (NOT an affiliate link)CONNECTThe complete list of Crack the Book Episodes: https://cheryldrury.substack.com/p/crack-the-book-start-here?r=u3t2rTo read more of my writing, visit my Substack - https://www.cheryldrury.substack.com.Follow me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cldrury/ LISTENSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/5GpySInw1e8IqNQvXow7Lv?si=9ebd5508daa245bdApple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/crack-the-book/id1749793321 Captivate - https://crackthebook.captivate.fm

This week we jumped into Romans 3 in our series, “A New Humanity.”Paul, in chapter 3, gives us what some Bible scholars call the most important sentence in the Bible. It is the foundation of The Gospel, as it shows us where it all starts. Paul will encourage us to first “Look” at the human condition, to see how broken we really are on our own strength. He does this to help us “Lean” on, not our works, but Jesus' works. Do you ever lean or rely on the wrong thing? Sometimes in life we fall, get lost, or become confused or distraught. But often this happens simply because we chose to rely on the wrong source of strength in the first place. Strength is only as good as its source, and when we choose to rely on the wrong things in life, for life, we fall. Paul encourages us to look for a more reliable source for strength in our life, and thereby shows us how to lean on the Lord in a new way and powerful way. We unpacked this in this week's message called, “Look and Lean.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).Connect to Captivate! - https://shorturl.at/nKxQuDownload the Captivate App to Stay Connected! - https://shorturl.at/5PfXPIf you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Good news or bad news—what do you want first? Most of us want the good news first… but what if we can't truly receive the good news until we're honest about the bad? This week we continue our study through Romans in our new series, “A New Humanity” as we dive into Romans 2. We will be talking about a difficult, but freeing truth: religion can't save you.We can know the Bible, go to church, avoid the “big sins,” and still miss God entirely. Romans 1 talks about those people out there, but Romans 2 turns the mirror on church people—the moral, the religious, the well-behaved. The ones who look fine on the outside, but are just as broken on the inside. This message isn't about trying harder – It's about finally being honest. About realizing God's kindness isn't approval, it's an invitation. Recorded live at SocialPacific 2025 in North Vancouver, Ben Wise and Darren Chiu, co-founders of Captivate, join guest host Rachel Thexton to explore the art and science of human behavior.Captivate translates academic psychology into practical tools for marketers, sales teams, and leaders, helping them communicate in ways that actually move people. They unpack why most marketing falls flat by being overly rational, how emotional decision-making really works, and why storytelling, including friction, consequences, and vulnerability, remains one of the most powerful tools in business. Because whether you're selling to consumers or corporations, you're always selling to a human.Produced by TAKT.

I saw on Reddit where someone was potentially making the classic blunder of podcasting: mixing unrelated shows into one feed. You know, like if you went to a restaurant for a burger but ended up with sushi on the same plate. I point out that our buddy Joey has a bi-weekly podcast that covers both video games and TV shows. With a measly two downloads per episode, Joey's mixing it up like a bad cocktail. The main takeaway? Split those shows! Seriously, if someone clicks on a gaming episode expecting a deep dive into Mario Kart, they don't want to suddenly hear about the latest Netflix binge. We're all about giving the audience choices here, folks. Keep it simple, keep it focused, and let them pick what they want to listen to. It's like letting them pick their own adventure instead of forcing them to read the whole book. So, if you're in this boat, don't wait for a big audience to fix it. Tweak it now, while the stakes are low. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later when you're not scrambling to split your shows down the line. And with the right media host, like Captivate or Transistor, you can have multiple shows without breaking the bank. Why wait until it's a mess?Takeaways:Don't make the rookie mistake of merging unrelated podcast topics into one show, just don't.Split your podcast episodes into separate feeds to give listeners their power of choice, ya know?Tuning your podcast like a guitar should happen when you have fewer listeners, not a packed house.Using the right media host can save you from the headache of splitting up your shows later on.Links Mentioned:School of PodcastingCaptivateTransistorThis content may contain affiliate links, meaning I earn a small commission if you purchase through these links at no additional cost to you. If you've ever wondered why selling on Amazon feels harder than it should, you're not alone. In this episode, I unpack why selling on Amazon can feel so complicated, even when you're capable and experienced. From navigating Amazon Seller Central to dealing with inconsistent updates, suppressed listings and unclear responses from Seller Support, the platform often creates unnecessary complexity. But it is not just a systems issue. It is the mental load of not knowing whether something is normal. The second guessing when a change works on one SKU but not another. The time lost searching Google or watching tutorials that may not apply to your situation.Selling on Amazon becomes heavier when you are trying to figure it all out alone. In this episode, I also talk about what actually helps. Faster answers. Ongoing guidance. Being able to sense check decisions. Learning from other Amazon sellers who are navigating the same challenges.I share more about the Amazon Sellers Support and Connect call I held recently, and my new-and-improved membership, Amazon Made Easy.Amazon Made Easy is for product based business owners who are already selling on Amazon, or actively preparing to launch, and want practical, ongoing support without paying for full account management. It's designed to help you take action, grow your account, get support when you need it and feel more confident in your decisions, without carrying the weight of it on your own.Because while we can't change how Amazon is built, we can change how supported you feel while building your business on it. People want transparency! Or do we? If nothing else, public calls for revealing government secrets raise a lot of ruckus, especially when the secrets in question seem to be covering up aliens. Zack is our UAP/UFO expert. Stephen is intrigued yet skeptical. We're both all over last week's headlines. One former president claimed he knows aliens are real. Then the current U.S. president said he would declassify files. Whatever happens next, why do people want disclosure so badly? Episode sponsors Firebreak by Kathy Tyers Realm Makers 2026 Conference & Expo Interregnum by J. A. Webb Above the Circle of Earth by E. Stephen Burnett Mission update New reviews: For The Good of All and Andromache Subscribe free to get updates and join the Lorehaven Guild Writing that next great alien-invasion novel? Join the Authorship. Quotes and notes Armies of the Aliens series on Fantastical Truth 1. Disclosure may expose human loneliness. This news could upend members of the alien fandom. We could all discover there were no aliens after all. Instead we might hear about human technology. And we might suspect we're alone in the universe. 2. Disclosures can upset our metaphysics Disclosure of extraterrestrial life could upend religion. Or we could discover the “aliens” are interdimensional. Some writers believe consciousness rewrites our understanding of the universe. Maybe the twist on the Fermi Paradox means humans actually arrived first. Zack posted this response on X: “I definitely believe that sinister interdimensional beings directed many religious texts. And that the Bible was given by an interdimensional being. Just one that is supreme to all the others, and good.” 3. Worst, disclosures may promote demons. This too could upend society's “respectable” materialism. That notion explains elite seances and messages from “aliens.” This would be biblical, but seeing this exposed could be shocking. It might even mean some of powerful leaders are controlled by demons Com station Top question for listeners If we get “disclosure” at all, what secrets do you expect to learn? Autumn Grayson wrote a whole essay about ep. 298: … In general, when it comes to people's political posts, there are some things I dislike, and some things that would be good to stay away from. It's certainly best if people say things that have more substance than just expressing outrage or disapproval, because well thought out engagement on a topic is better. But I do respect people's freedom and autonomy to say what they want to. I'll agree with it or disagree with it as I see fit. I'll get something out of it and learn from it either way, but what I may learn is that the content creator is someone I would not want to communicate or collaborate with. Or, the content creator ends up being an example of what NOT to do. Whatever people do, they should remember that they're showing something of themselves to the audience, and people have to ask themselves if that is truly how they want to come across and communicate to others. It may feel good to voice outrage in the moment or gain social clout for being on what some people call ‘the right side of history', but is it really accomplishing anything constructive? Is this really the kind of person the author wants to be? Next on Fantastical Truth Space is a dangerous place. Even recently we learned that Artemis II rocket has suffered another fuel system-related setback! But that's real life. In other worlds and other galaxies, “space” is full of life, risk, adventure, romance, and fantastical new worlds. Just in time for Firebreak, book 1 of the Firebird Interlude Trilogy, we're joined by longtime science fiction novelist Kathy Tyers to explore how the best Christian-made space operas sing through this teeming expanse.

No matter where you are in life, thriving or struggling, addicted to drugs or religion, too confident in yourself or not confident enough in who Jesus has made you to be… The Gospel makes you new. In fact, here is what the depths of the Gospel give us as a New Humanity… 1. A New Footing with God - “We are Justified”2. A New Family with God - “We are Adopted”3. A New Future with God - “We are Empowered”Becoming new through faith is a beautiful thing, but in the first three chapters of Romans, Paul describes the broken state of “Old Humanity.” Old Humanity does not live justified, but condemned, does not value family but radical individualism, and does not have a future with God but only focuses on the here and now. Paul makes a case to not live like the Romans do. He writes this letter to help believers live in Rome without becoming “of Rome.” I believe as he writes to them, he is writing to us, to help us live in the world but not become “of the world.”This week we unpacked this in a message called, “Rome: A Home Away From Home.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).Connect to Captivate! - https://shorturl.at/nKxQuDownload the Captivate App to Stay Connected! - https://shorturl.at/5PfXPIf you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? This Sunday we concluded our series, “The 7 Hour Walk” by jumping into “Corner” as the Captivate cultural practice of taking our faith outside the church building and into the world, neighborhood, office, and relationships God has placed us in. If we're honest, sharing Jesus with those outside the church can be a challenge. Sometimes we feel the pressure of needing to have the right answers or not wanting to hassle people with our faith. No one wants to feel like a salesman. But is that how Jesus shared the Gospel?Have you ever wondered, “How would Jesus evangelize?” Well in Luke 24 the very first thing Jesus does after he defeats death through the resurrection is just that… He witnessed, and therefore showed us how to do it. He did not hassle anyone but rather he drew near to where people were, he cared about their pain, he walked more than he talked, and he didn't force it. He went all the way with people. Have you ever walked into a room or given a presentation and immediately felt awkward? Or maybe you struggle with confidence or imposter syndrome at live gatherings or even on Zoom meetings? If so, this episode is for you.  As you'll hear from today's guest, confidence isn't the absence of awkwardness—it's feeling it, acknowledging it, and showing up anyway. And she has the tools to help you do just that. Vanessa Van Edwards is a behavioral researcher, the founder of Science of People, and the best-selling author of Cues and Captivate. Her 'You Are Contagious' Ted Talk is phenomenal and has over 6 million views for good reason.  Vanessa has spent her career studying the hidden cues and social signals that shape how people perceive us, and how we can take control of those signals to build trust faster and connect more deeply. In our conversation, Vanessa breaks down charisma into a simple, learnable framework: warmth + competence. We talk about the four ways we "signal" others with verbal and physical cues, why most people don't signal strongly enough, and how that can actually make you seem colder, less confident, or harder to connect with—even when you have great intentions. You'll also learn how to ask better questions to initiate conversations, how to nail the first 10 seconds of any interaction, and a few practical ways to show up with more presence and confidence. Does your life feel like a ship tossed on the ocean? Whether it's financial struggles, difficulty with a teenager, illness, or the ache of loneliness, we all face storms that we cannot control. In this heartfelt episode, talk about the reality of the "monsters" we face as solo moms and how to find true rest even when the winds are still raging.Drawing on biblical promises and personal experience, I explored the power of childlike trust and the peace that comes from surrendering control to a Father who is never afraid of the dark.In this episode, we discuss:The Nature of Storms: Why we feel like we are being tossed about by uncontrollable forces (work, parenting, internal unrest). The "Monster Under the Bed" Analogy: A story about little Samantha that illustrates how we can find sleep and peace by trusting someone bigger than us.Healing the Root: How unhealed trauma and anger can bleed into our parenting and relationships, and why indifference is not the same as healing.Jesus in the Boat: A reminder that even when God seems "asleep" in your situation, He is fully in control and capable of silencing the waves.A Shift in Mindset: moving from trying to control the uncontrollable to depending on your Omnipotent Father.Scripture References:Psalm 107:29 – "He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed."Isaiah 43:2 – "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you..."Resources Mentioned:Courage to Believe: The newly updated devotional by J. In this episode of The Russell Brunson Show, I sat down with Vanessa Van Edwards, and I knew right away this conversation was going to hit differently. I've been seeing Vanessa everywhere lately, and when she told me she used funnels and webinars to build her business, my mind was blown. She's a self-described “recovering awkward person” who turned social anxiety, human behavior research, and relentless testing into a global brand - and along the way, she quietly mastered selling without ever feeling salesy. What fascinated me most wasn't just her success, but how she got there. Vanessa didn't chase every platform blindly. She studied people the same way we study funnels. She learned what makes someone trust you, listen to you, and ultimately buy from you - and she applied those principles to webinars, content, books, and partnerships. This episode is a masterclass on communication, charisma, and how deeply understanding people can transform your business Key Highlights: ◼️How Vanessa went from failed book launches and quitting her business to rebuilding everything with webinars, funnels, and aggressively helpful content ◼️Why most entrepreneurs aren't bad at marketing - they're under-signaling warmth and competence (and how to fix that) ◼️The real reason some webinars convert for years while others flop, and how balancing credibility with likability changes everything ◼️Her unconventional growth strategy of leveraging platforms (not just social media) like Udemy, MasterClass, and email lists she didn't own ◼️The exact cues - from voice tone to body language - that instantly increase trust when you're on stage, on video, or on a sales call We also go deep into her books Captivate and Cues, her upcoming work on conversation, and why charisma isn't something you're born with - it's something you can learn, practice, and systemize. If you're an introverted entrepreneur, a funnel hacker who loves strategy more than small talk, or someone who knows their message is good but struggles to deliver it confidently, this episode is for you. ◼️If you've got a product, offer, service… or idea… I'll show you how to sell it (the RIGHT way) Register for my next event → https://sellingonline.com/podcast ◼️Still don't have a funnel? One thing the Bible makes clear is that we are never to test God. But there is one place in scripture that God boldly calls us to test Him! He says, “Test Me and see what I will do for the person that trust me in this area,” —generosity. God's desire is to bless His people, that is abundantly clear, but He also desires to partner with us.This Sunday is far from a guilt-filled money talk— we will discover that our unchanging, generous God doesn't want something from us, He wants something for us: a life where giving our time, talents, and treasure breaks the grip of materialism, puts Him first, and opens the floodgates of His promised blessings. This Sunday we are in week three of our “The 7 Hour Walk” series looking at Contribute in a message titled, “Test God?!”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).Connect to Captivate! - https://shorturl.at/nKxQuDownload the Captivate App to Stay Connected! - https://shorturl.at/5PfXPIf you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Week 44 takes us firmly into the 20th century, with a strong Irish lineup: James Joyce's “The Dead" from The Dubliners, the opening of Ulysses, and Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot.Joyce surprised me—in the very best way. “The Dead” is rich, intimate, and beautifully written, capturing married love, memory, and Dublin itself as if the city were another character. The opening of Ulysses was stranger and more dreamlike, but not impenetrable; I'm no longer afraid of it, even if I'm not sure the whole novel is in my future.Beckett, on the other hand, infuriated me. Waiting for Godot struck me as deliberately empty, a meditation on meaninglessness that simply wasn't for me, even while I understand its cultural impact. This week underscored how much I've grown as a reader: more patient, more persistent, and open to genres I never imagined loving. Eight weeks to go—and I'm grateful for every page.Oh, and the answer to that question? This week we continued our series “The 7 Hour Walk,” as we talked about how God wired us for divine connection as there's a big difference between coming to a church building and connecting to the church family. The sad reality of church is it's possible to come to church and still feel spiritually alone. It's possible to be surrounded by people, but not truly be connected to people. It's possible to be in close proximity to a spiritual family, but not experience intimacy with a spiritual family. And yet God never intended us to walk this life alone. We jumped into Mark 2 as we study a story of a man who needed to get to Jesus, but could not get there on his own. His friends literally had to pick him up and carry him to the Savior. Sometimes life hits us so hard we feel unable to pick ourselves up and move forward. Often we know we need to get to God, His Word, prayer, church, etc. but it's like we're paralyzed. The truth is we will all have seasons where we can't walk physically, spiritually emotionally, or relationally and we will need others to walk us to Jesus. That's Godly community. That's Godly connection. That's a Godly church. Tune into this week's message called, “The Faith of The Four,” as we learn how we can take our next step together and truly CONNECT as God designed us to.Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).Connect to Captivate! - https://shorturl.at/nKxQuDownload the Captivate App to Stay Connected! - https://shorturl.at/5PfXPIf you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? In this episode of Dog Works Radio, the hosts delve into the importance of engagement in dog training, emphasizing that a dog's distraction often stems from boredom rather than stubbornness. They introduce the concept of turning training into a game, which not only makes the process enjoyable for the dog but also enhances learning and reliability. The discussion highlights the three C's of effective training: clear criteria, meaningful consequences, and consistency, and how these principles can be integrated into play-based training to foster a stronger bond between dogs and their owners. The hosts explain that play is not chaotic but rather a structured way to engage dogs, making them more likely to choose their owners over distractions. They provide practical examples of training games that can be easily implemented without special equipment, reinforcing the idea that fun and effective training can coexist. The episode concludes with a reminder that training should feel like a relationship rather than a chore, encouraging listeners to adopt a playful approach to dog training for better results. This week's reading was heavy—emotionally and intellectually. We paired Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass(1845) with W.E.B. DuBois' The Souls of Black Folk (1903), and the contrast was striking.Douglass' firsthand account of slavery is harrowing, beautifully written, and unforgettable. From his stolen childhood to his carefully guarded escape, his story exposes not only the cruelty of slavery but its spiritual damage to everyone caught in its system. His reflections on faith, suffering, and corrupted Christianity are especially powerful. This is one book I believe every American should read.DuBois offers a sociological lens on life after Emancipation—Reconstruction failures, education debates, segregation, and his idea of the “Talented Tenth.” While insightful, his approach felt more theoretical to me than Douglass' lived experience. Both are worth reading—but Douglass, especially, will stay with you.LINKTed Gioia/The Honest Broker's 12-Month Immersive Humanities Course (paywalled!)My Amazon Book List (NOT an affiliate link)CONNECTThe complete list of Crack the Book Episodes: https://cheryldrury.substack.com/p/crack-the-book-start-here?r=u3t2rTo read more of my writing, visit my Substack - https://www.cheryldrury.substack.com.Follow me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cldrury/ LISTENSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/5GpySInw1e8IqNQvXow7Lv?si=9ebd5508daa245bdApple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/crack-the-book/id1749793321 Captivate - https://crackthebook.captivate.fm
