Zach Kelly The 2023 Freshtival is today's subject, as Zach Kelly, the brewmaster at Hen House Brewery joins Harry Duke and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha today. Fal Allen also calls in from Booneville later in the show. The Freshtival takes place on May 6 at SOMO Village. Zach Kelly has been the brew master at Hen House for about a year and a half now. The Freshtival, May 6, 2023 In addition to all the breweries, many artists will be at the Freshtival, who are responsible for the art work for the labels on many craft beer cans. The Freshtival also features live bands, which makes it a great music festival as well. There is also a community market. Visit Hen House Brewing or Event Brite to get tickets and to see everything about the Freshtival. They are tasting a Petit Saison beer from Hen House which is only 4.5% alcohol. The term Saison beer refers to a beer with a low alcohol content, which would allow someone to enjoy it while also doing something else. Zach tells about how he made this beer for his wife. He experimented with recipes and since they went to New Zealand on their honeymoon, this beer uses all New Zealand hops. She didn't know he brewed it for her, so he put on a May Day party at the brewery and presented it there. This particular beer was canned about three hours ago, speaking of fresh beer. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Click the logo to visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more info. Zach Kelly spent about five years at Russian River, previously worked at Left Hand Brewing in Colorado, and started at Keegan Ales in New York. This Beer Creates Opportunity They are tasting Sonoma Sunshine, a dry-hopped Kolsch beer. (See the title picture) Their artist, Blanca, who designed the label, has also painted a mural in the tasting room. The Brewers Guild is holding a mixer to promote The Inclusion Beer Project and the beer labeled This Beer Creates Opportunity. The project is dedicated to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and open access in the craft brewing industry. Hen House is located at 322 Bellvue Ave. in Santa Rosa. They also have a location called the Palace of Barrels in Petaluma. They serve a beer called “Day Zero” which comes right off the production line. In the near future they will be opening a new location in Fairfax.

Today I celebrate the life of Kia Abilay. She was a guest on the show September 21, 2021 when she talked about her book, The Gift of Listening: Cultivating Your Connection to Spirit. The part of her story we didn't get into in her interview was how she had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and what she was doing to heal from it. Kia passed on November 22, 2021 and so today, on her birthday and the day of her Celebration of Life, I read from portions of her book in her honor. Then in the second hour of the of the show, I am joined by Lisa Hantes president of the board of directors for Angel Food East, one of Kia's favorite local charities which was chosen for remembrance donations in her honor. Lisa has been the board president for the last 8 years and is also a volunteer chef. Locals may know her as the GM and co-proprietor of Keegan Ales, where she worked together with her husband Tommy for the past 10-12 years. She also works with Ulster Literacy association as a grant administrator and tutor trainer. Lisa lets us know how we can support the work of Angel Food East and all the cool happenings on the horizon at Keegans.Don't forget about Marielena's opening this Friday at the Dorsky in New Paltz!Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda of Radio Kingston. Our show music is from Shana Falana !!!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFY | STITCHERITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCASTITCHER: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/she-wants/i-want-what-she-has?refid=stpr'Follow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcastTWITTER * https://twitter.com/wantwhatshehas
When Red Rock Brewery opened its doors in 1994, you could count the number of craft breweries in Utah on one hand. Now, obviously, the state boasts quite a few more. But the brewery that brought us the likes of Elephino Double IPA, Bobcat Nut Brown Ale, Marvella Belgian-Style Tripel, Grand Bavaria Weiss Bier, and many, many others remains as relevant and as important today as it was nearly 30 years ago. The venerable brewery is the winner of more than 100 medals. And its downtown brewpub has earned Large Brewpub of the Year recognition by the Great American Beer Festival. Based in Salt Lake City, the self-distributing Red Rock offers a variety of beers on draft and sells its packaged products primarily in 500-milliliter bottles. Representatives say the brewery is on track to brew 5,000 barrels in 2021 and it continues to blend tradition with innovation when it comes to satisfying public tastes. I visited with Sales Manager Erika Palmer and Head Brewer Kevin Davis in early June 2021. We met at the Red Rock production brewery, which is attached to the popular Red Rock Beer Store at 443 North 400 West in Salt Lake City. The Red Rock footprint also features three brewpubs—including the original Red Rock brewhouse and pub, which is headed up by longtime brewer Chris Harlin. Our conversation dives into the history of Red Rock. Erika started as a bartender at the original brewpub before leaving and then returning to Red Rock two separate times to take on sales responsibilities. Kevin, whose 20-plus-year brewing career includes stops at Brewery Ommegang, Keegan Ales, and New Belgium, joined the Red Rock team in 2018 following the departure of Kevin Templin, who ultimately opened Templin Family Brewing. Erika and Kevin also discuss several beers woven into the Red Rock tapestry. They shed light on how a few fan favorites came to be and hint at what you might expect to see in the future. Red Rock is an important player in Utah craft beer. I hope you'll find learning more about the past, present, and future of Red Rock as interesting as I did. Thanks to Erika and Kevin for taking the time to visit with Utah Beer News. And thank you for listening. I hope you enjoy hearing more about Red Rock Brewery. If you enjoy this type of storytelling, I'd really appreciate it if you could share this episode with your beer-loving friends, and then please leave a review on your podcast platform of choice. And now, let's dive in to learn more about Red Rock Brewery. For an accompanying article, please visit UtahBeerNews.com. Enjoy the episode! Episode 60 | June 28, 2021
Episode 317 - Tommy Keegan Tribute with Interboro, Newburgh, and Industrial Arts via https://mfgtec.org/keegan-ales/ Happy Monday, Thieves! We’re paying tribute to a local legend this week. Tommy Keegan of Kingston, NY’s Keegan Ales unexpectedly died of heart attack on April 30 and we wanted to reflect on his legacy in the craft beer community in the greater NYC and Hudson Valley region. Tommy was one of a kind, a true open-hearted person who touched nearly everyone he encountered. We’re joined by Jesse Ferguson of Interboro, Geoff Wenzel of Industrial Arts, and Paul Halayko of Newburgh Brewing. Jesse and Augie reminisce about Tommy dropping by Carton in the early days, Paul tells us about Tommy reaching out when Newburgh was getting up and running, and Geoff talks about what it was like working for Tommy in the early days (when Geoff was legally too young to even drink the beer he was helping brew). We talk about our experiences with and the influence of Tommy’s Mother’s Milk and Hurricane Kitty and why those beers were some of the most formative early drinking experiences for us. It was a melancholic stroll down memory lane and we hope you enjoy our tribute. Let us know if you have any you would like to share yourselves.***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com.
