A couple of weeks ago, we sent Tangle News YouTube and podcast editor Jon Lall to the home of former Representative Ken Buck (R-CO). Buck, who recently retired from the House of Representatives, was enjoying his first few days of free time since leaving Congress. Long known as one of the most outspoken members of his party, Buck had been making waves in the news for criticizing the state of Congress, referring to his former colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene as "Moscow Marjorie," and breaking publicly from the House Freedom Caucus, a group he was a longtime member of. After Jon set up Buck's computer and studio, the former Congressman sat down for a 45-minute chat with me, recording from the Tangle studio in Philadelphia. In our conversation we covered his recent comments about Green, whether he planned to endorse Trump, if he regretted voting to oust Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), his view on new Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), how broken Congress really is, why he was still so focused on the debt and deficit, and what he planned to do now that he had left Congress. It was a fascinating, wide-ranging conversation. Given how honest and blunt Buck was even when he was in office, I was expecting him to be pretty forthright in our interview, too. Aside from one or two small dodges, he didn't disappoint. We've also released the interview as a YouTube video and podcast for free. If you'd like to watch it on YouTube, you can do that here. We just released the next episode of our new podcast series, The Undecideds. In episode 2, our undecided voters primarily talk about Trump's legal troubles. How do they feel about his alleged crimes? How would him being convicted - or exonerated - change the way they vote? What about his claims he should have immunity as president? You'll hear how they consider these major themes of the race, and also what they made of Haley dropping out and Biden's State of the Union Address. You can listen to Episode 2 here. Today's clickables: Introduction (0:32), Resigning from Congress (2:48), The difference between conservative and MAGA (4:14), "Moscow Marjorie" (6:01), Why support Ukraine (8:37), Mike Johnson (9:58), Kevin McCarthy (11:21), Dysfunction in Congress (13:17), Got more done under Democrats control (15:12), The primary problem (18:36), How to fix the primary problem (20:13), The problem with Biden (22:02), Reforming Social Security (26:09), Endorsing Trump (28:26), Perpetual fundraising (30:00), What are you doing now? Former Rep. Ken Buck eludes simple classification. He grew up on the East Coast but says he felt more at home on his uncle's Wyoming ranch as a kid. He is Princeton educated, but beelined for the Rocky Mountain West upon graduating. He is a former Freedom Caucus conservative who voted to certify the 2020 election and believes some of the charges against Donald Trump should be taken seriously. He resigned his seat in March 2024, citing the current dysfunction in Congress. Former Rep. Buck joined David to talk about his take on the Republican MAGA wing, Speaker Mike Johnson and how long he'll hold his leadership role, attacks on the Department of Justice, his issues with the Affordable Care Act, and the importance of bipartisanship. Inez Stepman of the Independent Women's Forum and host of the "High Noon" podcast is in for Jim. First, they react to Dr. Jonathan Haidt's latest writings and research confirming the devastating impact that 24/7 exposure to screens, the internet, and social media have had on Gen Z. The finding are terrible but knowing the facts is very helpful. So what are the lessons should take away from what we've learned over the past 17 years since the iPhone came out and just how much damage has been done to the young people who served as guinea pigs for this massive shift in technology. Next, they react to Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher not only deciding not to run for re-election but to resign from Congress next month. Not only that, it appears he is postponing his resignation just long enough to prevent a special election to fill his seat, so it will stay vacant until November. Colorado's Ken Buck did the same thing earlier this month. Greg wonders why these two GOP members are selfishly leaving their constituents high and dry (as did Kevin McCarthy late last year) instead of honoring their commitments. However, Inez says the Republicans brought this dysfunction upon themselves by constantly ignoring their base, which now has a louder voice with such a slim House majority in place. Finally, they groan as Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault during high school without one stitch of evidence is now back with a book allegedly telling her story. Greg and Inez blast what appears to be the left's political long game in convincing the public over time that Blasey Ford really was a victim. And Inez highlights that on many college campuses, men are still often treated far worse than Kavanaugh. It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Nicholas Boni, writer, photographer and musician based in Brooklyn, & Cea Weaver, tenant organizer with Housing Justice For All in New York, to discuss Nicholas's recent piece in Jacobin entitled "Social Housing for New York Is on the Table". Then, Sam speaks with John Samuelsen, International President of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), to discuss the prospects of a commuter rail worker strike in Boston, where they've been without a contract for over 200 days. First, Sam runs through updates on the performance of ‘uncommitted' in the Washington primary, the House voting to sort of ban TikTok, questions about more GOP testimony, Trump's legal battles, the House GOP, the Federal Judiciary Committee, US labor action, and aid for Ukraine, before parsing through the recent TikTok “ban” legislation rushed through the House. Nicholas Boni and Cea Weaver then join, diving right into the complete affordability crisis facing New York State, resulting from a lack of existing stable, affordable housing and investment into new permanent, affordable housing projects, and their solution of a Social Housing Development Authority (SHDA), a statewide tenant's rights coalition, funded and supported by the state, that would work to rezone, maintain, rehabilitate, acquire, and construct new affordable housing projects across New York State, relying on a much broader base than existing housing authorities like NYCHA, allowing for them to function on a much broader, and much more effective scale. Expanding on this, Weaver and Boni look at the SHDA as a true public-sector alternative to the speculative role of private real estate, walking through the process and legislation SHDA would rely on in their acquisition of housing and land for maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction, and the role the Authority would play in working with to take over existing housing and establish tenant-run cooperatives. After walking through some real-world lasting examples of this kind of housing infrastructure, Cea and Nicholas wrap up by assessing the current state of the fight, and what to look for moving forward. John Samuelson then joins, walking through the TWU's role representing transit workers across the US, before zooming in on the ongoing issues facing Local-2054, with active profiteering and exploitation from the French company Keolis in their management of Massachusetts' Commuter Rail, all bankrolled by the US taxpayer. After walking through the long battle between the local and Keolis in their ongoing contract negotiations, Samuelson walks through the ongoing exploitation faced by transit mechanics and coach cleaners on the South Side, and the role of the MBTA and Massachusetts DOT in allowing this brutal exploitation. Wrapping up, John Samuelson assesses the future of Local-2054's fight, and what we can do to support them. And in the Fun Half: Sam discusses the future of MR, the bad look for both Merrick Garland and the GOP that is Robert Hur's testimony, and revelations around Trump's active attempt to steal classified documents. Meffi from Texas discusses the dangers of right-wing authoritarian thugs, Sly from Staten Island on the crime-spike myth, and Angela from Alberta explores the progressive factions of Canadian news media. Candace Owens goes on in on the transvestigation of Brigitte Macron, Ken Buck leaves the GOP hanging dry as he kills their House Majority, and A from Washington dives into some context for Brett Weinstein's dishonorable discharge from academia, plus, your calls and IMs! Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim today. Andy and Greg dive into the law, congressional politics, and how the presidential campaign and the NFL might intersect this year.First, Andy analyzes Special Counsel Robert Hur's Tuesday testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. He explains why Adam Schiff was dead wrong to suggest Hur was playing politics by discussing Biden's faulty memory in his report on Biden's mishandling of classified information. He also dismisses Rep. Jayapal and others for wrongly insisting that the Hur report "exonerates" Biden, noting the facts of the report and that it's not the job of a prosecutor to exonerate anyone. But in reflecting on questions from the GOP side and the report itself, Andy outlines why he thinks Hur's ultimate conclusions were wrong.Next, they react to Colorado Rep. Ken Buck announcing his impending resignation from the House of Representatives. The move will leave the GOP with an even slimmer 218-213 margin with four special elections still to come. Andy suggests this move is quite telling about the battle for the future of the Republican Party. Finally, they get a kick out of reports that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is speaking "pretty continuously" with New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers about Rodgers serving as Kennedy's running mate for his independent presidential bid. MSNBC's Katie Phang hosts "The Beat" on Tuesday, March 12, and reports on special counsel Robert Hur's testimony today on the Biden classified documents probe, mass RNC layoffs amidst a Trump takeover, a new book that exposes Trump's election lies, and an increasing number of GOP laws putting abortion and other rights at stake. Joyce Vance, Leah Litman, Paul Dame, Molly Jong-Fast and Ken Block join to discuss.
SERIES 2 EPISODE 131: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump under-performs AGAIN, falling short of polling by at least 17 points in the Michigan Republican. And Biden OVER-performs AGAIN, and so does the “Uncommitted” protest votes against his Israel-Gaza policy, in what is looking like a gentle rebuke in the Michigan Democratic Primary. PLUS: LEGACY NEWS MEDIA BREAKTHROUGH: After Trump did a hatful of racisms at “The Black Conservative Federation Gala” (the one that had almost no blacks in attendance) the president of ABC News Kim Godwin emailed people on her staff that “these remarks are as racist as they come…mind blowing. Shocking.” Of course they were NOT shocking and Godwin's response might as well have been “wait – Trump was PRESIDENT?” and that only underscores the media disconnect from the reality of the evil of Trump. But the headline is: SHE TOOK A STAND and did so in writing, knowing it would get out. She may have had ulterior motives (she's been dreadful and loathed on the job; she just got another boss appointed above her; she may be trying to stave off dismissal) and they don't matter. She SAID something – more than her network or any network actually has. It may have moved the needle a bit. COMER DOUBLES DOWN: You wouldn't, I wouldn't. But he and Jim Jordan – with a new jailed witness replacing the first jailed witness as the primary asset in their President Biden Impeachment/Hunter Biden Smear – have doubled down. They've subpoenaed Merrick Garland for all of corrupt Special Counsel Robert Hur's transcripts, videos, etc. If Garland were smart, he'd fight the subpoena and say that of course while it's being ajudicated, Hur can't say anything, especially to the House Committee. Because it would be useful if Democrats began to ask themselves: What dirty trick would a Republican play in this situation. And apply it not just to a subpoena from some whores in Congress, but to the dilemma in Michigan and, for that matter, at the border. Which leads me to a modest proposal: Biden should steal the issue, control the process, and neuter Trump all in one fell swoop. HE should declare HE is building a wall and destroy the feeble minds of 60 million Trumpists. A wall can be anything more than six inches long. B-BLOCK (30:08) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Axios slams Biden for having note cards at fundraisers. Then, a Democratic county chairman finds pictures of the Axios reporter and the Axios co-founder reading questions off note cards. A NewsMax host thinks the DHS Secretary can be impeached for breaking not laws, but laws NewsMax would like to see. And besides the foolishness of the GoFundMe to pay the now $466 Million Trump owes the state of New York, there's a hidden reveal inside the boilerplate at the website that suggests the right may have another “Moms For THAT Kind of Liberty Wocka-Wocka” scandal in its bed. C-BLOCK (38:38) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Well we started on baseball spring training yesterday. Let's continue. Let me tell you the tale of day I paid cash to suppress a story that would have rocked the World Series – the most famous pitcher in the game had gotten within inches of a fight, with a fan of his own team, and I made sure… nobody saw the video.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
SERIES 2 EPISODE 129: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN: A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: The disgraced Special Hunter Biden Counsel is so terrified about what could happen next to the Russian Plant/FBI "Informant" Alexander Smirnov that he had him RE-arrested yesterday, in a different state, in a second and very unusual bid to deny Smirnov bail. A senior Republican congressman is so terrified (and enraged) about what could happen next to Smirnov that HE has broken ranks and confirmed that Jim Jordan and James Comer knew from the start that Smirnov's "Form 1023" stank and hadn't been corroborated and Smirnov had more red flags than a May Day Parade - and lied to the public anyway and nearly fulfilled Vladimir Putin's desire to see a president impeached eight months before the American election, and his son imprisoned. But the Attorney General Merrick Garland - who was so lazy and incompetent that when they brought Smirnov's fabrications to him he fell for them and appointed the Special Counsel anyway - is HE terrified or enraged about what could happen next to Smirnov? Nope. He's done nothing. While another Russian-Republican plot to alter the outcome of the election has played out almost entirely in public view. This is largely Merrick Garland's fault. If he doesn't suspend the Biden Counsel, David Weiss, and if he doesn't appoint a new one immediately to grill Comer and Jordan and Weiss and all the others, President Biden must fire him. We're under attack here. It's another coup attempt. It seems to link to Trump or at least Russia's desire to return Trump to power. And Garland is trying to clean his glasses. And it is absolutely true that this is the most important political story of the moment, and it needs to be framed as Brian Beutler framed it: What did the Republicans know, and when did they know it? B-Block (22:00) IN SPORTS: Meet Auston Matthews, the Mike Trout of Hockey. It's 44 years since the US beat Russia at the Lake Placid Olympics (I'll report from 1980) and the extraordinary revelation by my friend Jack Edwards, play-by-play man of the Boston Bruins. (30:17) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: C-PAC is back so the Nazi loonies are loonier than ever: Charlie Kirk, Jack Posobiec, General Flynn, Matt Schlapp say stuff like "this is where we end Democracy," and "I'd like to see television killings of Trump's opponents" and "Trump is still president." C-Block (38:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: You guys! I have now MET Smiles the Bernese! (38:35) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: a collection of his very political, still very relevant Political Fables: “The Mouse Who Went To The Country,” “The Very Proper Gander,” “The Moth And The Star,” “The Owl Who Was God,” “The Birds And The Foxes,” “The Peacelike Mongoose.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
SERIES 2 EPISODE 119: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Today we begin to find out if we still have a Constitution. Because the Constitution, in the third clause of the fourteenth amendment, says no person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector, or hold any office, civil or military… who having previously taken an oath as a member of Congress or as an officer of the United States to support the Constitution shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. It does NOT say that that person has to be CONVICTED of insurrection or rebellion. It does NOT say that that person has to be disqualified from the ballot by a judge or a legislature or a plebiscite. It does NOT say that the president is NOT an officer of the United States or that a President is exempt. It does NOT say that the disqualification of an insurrectionist from being president is any different than is the disqualification of a foreign citizen, nor any different than is the disqualification of a 14-year old, that all of them are self-executing. It does NOT say that this clause of the constitution can only be enforced if all the voters agree. It does NOT say that this clause of the constitution can only be enforced AFTER somebody ineligible is elected. It does NOT say that this clause of the constitution can only be enforced if the insurrectionist's cult and gangs and militias and stochastic terrorists promise not to threaten civil war. It does NOT say that this clause of the constitution can only be enforced if a majority of justices of the Supreme Court can't make up a bullshit excuse for NOT enforcing it. It DOES say that this clause of the constitution CAN be overridden if Congress removes the disqualification of an individual by a vote of two-thirds of the House and two-thirds of the Senate. PERIOD. I will quote extensively from the two Federalist Society constitutional scholars whose extraordinary research into the 14th Amendment really mainstreamed it: Professors William Baude and Michael Pearson. And I'll quote a third Professor they quote, at the crux of the real argument here: if the Justices should find an excuse to make up some rule to NOT enforce our Constitution out of fear of Trump and violence. From Daniel Epps of Washington University: "The Supreme Court shouldn't rule that Trump is ineligible for the presidency for engaging in insurrection, because if they do Trump will definitely stage an insurrection." B-BLOCK (20:18) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: If at first you don't impeach, try try again. Next Tuesday, in fact. And meet Valentina Gomez, trying to win the GOP nomination for Secretary of State of Missouri. She too is fed up with book banning. Her platform moves directly to book BURNING. (25:41) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Trump calls Grammy ratings "anemic" even though they exceed his last four hour-long network specials COMBINED. UK's Prime Minister shames himself. As do Tucker Carlson and the very gullible rightwing nut job Juanita Broadddrick. C-BLOCK (33:30) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Can you help out Guidry's Guardian Foundation? (34:45) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Somebody mentioned he went to a baseball event and got applause and support. So let me tell you about the baseball event at which I found out Rudy Giuliani was nuts. We are approaching its 30th anniversary! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: Rich is busy hosting a Speaker Series with #1 global best-selling author and film producer Terry Hayes at Main Point Books in Wayne, PA—so, Mike Opelka hosts hour 4 of the show! According to a report from 6ABC, “two police officers were shot Wednesday afternoon when they responded to reports of a shooting at a home in East Lansdowne, Delaware County. Sources said an 11-year-old was shot inside the home in the unit block of Lewis Avenue. As soon as officers arrived, a person started shooting at them, sources told Action News. The final vote was 49 to 50. Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times writes: “Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, changes his vote to no, which is a strategic procedural move to make sure he can raise the measure again, not a sign that he has suddenly changed his mind about the substance of the bill.” She continues: “Four Republicans voted to advance the foreign aid measure that included border security provisions: Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah. Four Democrats—Senators Alex Padilla of California, Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Ed Markey of Massachusetts—voted against doing so, as did Senator Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/02/07/us/congress-ukraine-israel-aid/85a3b581-3ab8-527c-bb12-ee1ee4be6664?smid=url-share On Tuesday night, Republican leadership in the House of Representatives attempted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas but failed. The final vote was 214-216. Four Republicans joined Democrats and voted “nay”— Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, Ken Buck of Colorado, Blake Moore of Utah, and Tom McClintock of California. Though Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had recently undergone abdominal surgery and rushed to Capitol Hill from his hospital bed—arriving in hospital garb to vote. He was not expected to be in attendance. Republican leadership plans to hold another impeachment vote when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), who is receiving treatment for cancer, is healthy enough to vote. Hannah Sparks of The New York Post writes: “You can pick your nose, but you can't pick your pathogens. A review of dozens of published studies into the mechanisms behind neurological diseases has collected strong evidence that people who frequently pick their noses are at a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Vance (R-OH) explained why he vehemently opposes the Senate bipartisan border security/foreign aid bill. “The idea that we are committed to supporting whatever came out of this negotiation is pure, unadulterated bulls***. We supported a negotiation to bring common sense border security to this country—we did not agree to a fig leaf to send another $61 billion to Ukraine.” 3:40pm- On Tuesday, Nevada held its presidential primary. Despite basically running uncontested, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley received fewer votes than the “None of These Candidates” option on the ballot. With 88% of the vote counted Haley trails 63% to 31%. On Thursday, the Nevada Republican Party will hold its presidential caucus which Donald Trump is expected to win—and, presumably, will receive the state's 26 delegates. The Nevada primary will award no delegates. 4:05pm- On Tuesday night, Republican leadership in the House of Representatives attempted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas but failed. The Boston Herald reports that Kerry's 45-person staff has collectively received $4.3 million per year in taxpayer-funded salary. Turner explains: "For nearly three years, John Kerry has been jet-setting on the international climate conference circuit while sending taxpayers the bill. Today, we begin the process of teaching John Kerry and Joe Biden that they work for the taxpayers. No one should have to waste resources on litigation, but that is our only option since John Kerry thinks he can keep his office off the books. The American people are on the receiving end of countless green mandates and rules, gas stove bans and skyrocketing utility bills, with no opportunity for consent or input, and many of these decisions are hatched in John Kerry's office. That is why it is our hope that this litigation will finally bring to light the information we deserve to know: the staff names, the office goals and budgets, the outside partnerships that peddle influence on Joe Biden's green agenda." The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: On Sunday, leadership in the U.S. Senate released the details of a bipartisan bill designed to reduce illegal border crossings, send $60 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, and $14.1 billion in aid to Israel. The 370-page bill mandates a border shutdown if more than 5,000 migrants unlawfully enter the U.S. in a single day. However, the shutdown cannot exceed 270 days in the bill's first year, 225 in the second year, and 180 days in the third year. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has said the proposed “Senate border bill will not receive a vote in the House.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has echoed a similar sentiment—and announced the House will instead vote on a standalone bill later this week that will provide $14.3 billion of aid to Israel. Annie Karni of The New York Times notes: “By Monday evening, [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell was privately acknowledging that the measure had hemorrhaged support among Republicans, and recommending they move to block it unless Democrats agreed to debate it further and allow them to propose changes.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/05/us/politics/republicans-border-deal.html In a video posted to X, Tucker Carlson announced that he will be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interview will be posted to X and will be free to watch. For the second consecutive year, President Joe Biden will not grant an interview to the television station broadcasting the Super Bowl. Traditionally, the president participates in an interview prior to kickoff which is viewed by millions of people across the country. Upon hearing the news, former President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social: “Crooked Joe Biden has just announced that he will not be doing the big Super Bowl Interview. A great decision, he can't put two sentences together. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE HIM—would be ‘RATINGS GOLD!'” On Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke from the White House imploring the U.S. Congress to pass a proposed border bill crafted by a bipartisan group of Senators—James Lankford (R-OK), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), and Chris Murphy (D-CT). However, it seems increasingly unlikely that the bill has enough support to even pass in the Senate let alone the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. During his address, President Biden blamed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for sabotaging the legislation by denouncing it in the press and on social media. The House of Representatives' attempt to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has failed with a vote of 214-216. Four Republicans joined Democrats and voted “nay”— Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, Ken Buck of Colorado, Blake Moore of Utah, and Tom McClintock of California.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: In a bombshell report from Tim Golden of ProPublica: “Years before Andrés Manuel López Obrador was elected as Mexico's leader in 2018, U.S. drug-enforcement agents uncovered what they believed was substantial evidence that major cocaine traffickers had funneled some $2 million to his first presidential campaign. According to more than a dozen interviews with U.S. and Mexican officials and government documents reviewed by ProPublica, the money was provided to campaign aides in 2006 in return for a promise that a López Obrador administration would facilitate the traffickers' criminal operations.” You can read the full report here: https://www.propublica.org/article/mexico-amlo-lopez-obrador-campaign-drug-cartels While appearing on Fox News with Bret Baier, Rep. Chip Roy explained exactly why the proposed Senate border bill does not do enough to secure the U.S. Southern border—noting that children won't count towards the 5,000 migrants per day necessary to trigger an immediate border shutdown, which he fears may encourage child trafficking. Would you pay $17.59 for a Big Mac meal at McDonald's? PLUS, why is the moon shrinking? During a House hearing addressing allegations that the federal government partnered with Big Tech to censor speech online, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed that email exchanges indicate the White House pressured Amazon to remove books that questioned the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. According to reports, the House of Representatives is expected to hold a vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday—alleging that he has willfully refused to enforce existing U.S. border security laws. Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times explains: “The G.O.P. can afford no more than two defections, and two Republicans—Tom McClintock of California, below pictured first, and Ken Buck of Colorado—are already committed nos. A handful of others are on the fence. But when asked if they had the votes to impeach, Speaker Mike Johnson said: ‘I believe we do.'”
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/06/2024): 3:05pm- In a 57-page opinion, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit unanimously rejected Donald Trump's argument that presidential immunity legally shields him from criminal charges related to his challenging of the 2024 presidential election results. The judges wrote: "We cannot accept former President Trump's claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power—the recognition and implementation of election results. Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count." Trump has vowed to appeal the decision—which will mean the case will be heard by the full D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals or the U.S. Supreme Court. Jennifer Crumbley, whose son, Ethan, pleaded guilty to four counts of murder in the killings at Oxford High about 40 miles north of Detroit and is serving life in prison, lowered her head slightly but showed little other reaction as the verdict was read in an Oakland County courtroom. The judge set a sentencing date of April 9. Crumbley's husband, James Crumbley, will stand trial for the same charges in a separate trial next month.” You can read the full report here: https://www.wsj.com/us-news/mother-of-michigan-school-shooter-ethan-crumbley-found-guilty-of-manslaughter-ccd8bfff?mod=hp_lead_pos1 3:40pm- Country singer and songwriter Toby Keith has passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer. 3:55pm- Don't wish “The Greater Chris” a happy birthday… 4:05pm- According to reports, the House of Representatives is expected to hold a vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday—alleging that he has willfully refused to enforce existing U.S. border security laws. With only a slim majority in the House, it is uncertain whether Republicans will have enough votes to successfully impeach Mayorkas. 4:15pm- On Sunday, leadership in the U.S. Annie Karni of The New York Times notes: “By Monday evening, [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell was privately acknowledging that the measure had hemorrhaged support among Republicans, and recommending they move to block it unless Democrats agreed to debate it further and allow them to propose changes.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/05/us/politics/republicans-border-deal.html 4:40pm- In a 57-page opinion, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count."
