In this month's 7MS Presents: Stories of Hope, Aaron Calafato tells the true story of a six year old boy taken during a church gathering in a small village in southern Sudan. Torn from his mother and thrown into the chaos of civil war, the boy would eventually escape and spend years growing up in a refugee camp far from home. But through everything, he kept running. Years later, that same boy would walk into the Olympic Stadium carrying the flag of the United States. Sometimes hope is something we find. Sometimes it is something we run toward. *Read the story form the man himself: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/running-for-my-life-lopez-lomong/1110791822

What is Jesus doing in His trial? Matthew 27:1–25 looks forward to the morning sermon in the holy assembly on the coming Lord's Day. In these twenty-five verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that, in His trial, Jesus is being the true Priest, King, and Bearer of guilt. While merely human priests, prophets, and authorities fail, Jesus stands as the perfect Priest, Prophet, and King; and, He is the only able Bearer of human guilt. The tragic outcome for Judas, consumed by ungodly sorrow and self-destruction, underscores the necessity of turning to Christ alone for forgiveness, while the crowd's cry, 'His blood be on us and on our children,' is answered in Acts 2 with a promise unto them and their children, that Christ's blood cleanses, rather than condemns, those who repent and believe. Christ's gift of the Holy Spirit gives life for repentance and faith in Christ, through Whom there is forgiveness even for the sin of crucifying the Lord. Ultimately, the passage calls us to embrace Christ as the sole guilt-bearer.
In "The Witness Bearer," Pastor David Bendett explores Romans 8:16 and the Holy Spirit's constant testimony that we are God's children. Discover how the Spirit accompanies, affirms, comforts, and leads us — breaking fear, affirming our adoption as sons and daughters, and reminding us of our inheritance with Christ. A vital message on identity in Christ, Holy Spirit guidance, and overcoming doubt in uncertain times. #HolySpirit #Romans8 #ChildOfGod #ChristianPodcast

Luke 14:25-35 confronts us with one of the most challenging questions we'll ever face: Are we merely traveling with Jesus, or are we truly surrendered to Him? This passage strips away the comfortable veneer of cultural Christianity and exposes the radical nature of authentic discipleship. Jesus doesn't soften His message for the crowds following Him. Instead, He lays out four essential realities that define what it means to be His disciple. First, we discover a disciple's priority—Jesus must be elevated above even our closest family relationships, not in hatred, but in such devotion that our love for Him makes all other loves pale in comparison. Second, we learn a disciple's perspective—bearing our cross means living as those who recognize this world is not our home and that clarity is found on the cross, not in the crowd. Third, we confront a disciple's price—salvation is free, but discipleship costs everything, yet paradoxically, those who lose their lives for Christ find the abundant life they've been seeking. Finally, we understand a disciple's purpose—like salt that preserves and purifies, we're called to stand against decay in our culture while bringing healing truth seasoned with grace. The beauty is that we don't accomplish this in our own strength. Romans 8 reminds us that the Holy Spirit empowers us for this crucified life, transforming what seems impossible into the very pathway to joy, peace, and eternal purpose.

I've been studying AI audio so that I can complete a couple of personal projects. The first project is an audiobook containing 18 chapters that span 75 fascinating minutes. Your MondayMorningMemo on December 22nd will contain the following invitation:The tribe encircling the campfire is about to listen to a group of old men tell “The Story of the Long Ago.” You can listen, too, if you like. That invitation will be coming your way on December 22nd.The other project that I will be launching in January or February is an ongoing weekly series called “The Great Writer Series.”My goal is simple: I want to reawaken the world to the power of well-told stories. That's it. I have no other agenda. I just want people to remember what great writing sounds like.Today I've got 3 different samples for you. Each is about 2 minutes long. Click the hyperlinks if you want to hear my people read to you. This first one is an obscure poem by Robert Frost called, “The Bearer of Evil Tidings.”I have asked Amir Amani to read it.The bearer of evil tidings,When he was halfway there,Remembered that evil tidingsWere a dangerous thing to bear.So when he came to the partingWhere one road led to the throneAnd one went off to the mountainsAnd into the wild unknown,He took the one to the mountains. He ran through the Vale of Cashmere,He ran through the rhododendronsTill he came to the land of Pamir. And there in a precipice valleyA girl of his age he metTook him home to her bower,Or he might be running yet.She taught him her tribe's religion:How ages and ages sinceA princess en route to ChinaTo marry a Persian princeHad been found with child; and her armyHad come to a troubled halt. And though a god was the fatherAnd nobody else at fault,It had seemed discreet to remain thereAnd neither go on nor back.So they stayed and declared a villageThere in the land of the Yak.And the child that came of the princessEstablished a royal line,And his mandates were given heed toBecause he was born divine. And that was why there were peopleOn one Himalayan shelf; And the bearer of evil tidingsDecided to stay there himself. At least he had this in commonWith the race he chose to adopt:They had both of them had their reasonsFor stopping where they had stopped. As for evil tidings,Belshazzar's overthrow,Why hurry to tell BelshazzarWhat soon enough he would know?Amor Towles will be our second example. He has given us literary wonders like “A Gentleman in Moscow” and “The Lincoln Highway.” This excerpt is from page 302 of his novel, “Table for Two.”Big Bob Bigelow will read it to us.Eve could not pinpoint when her dislike for lists began, but it must have been around the time she was twelve. It was in the basement of St. Mary's, where she and the rest of the sixth graders were charged with memorizing the Ten Commandments.“Thou shalt not this.” “Thou shalt not that.” “And thou shalt not the other thing.”Then there was the list painted on the sign at the country club pool to remind the children there would be…“No Running.” “No Diving.” “No Splashing.”But most important was her mother's ever-expanding list of what a young lady should not do. Like put her elbows on the table, or speak with her mouth full, or slug her...

When the holy and most pure child Mary (Mariam or Miriam in Hebrew) reached the age of three, her parents, the righteous Joachim and Anna, fulfilled the vow they had made to dedicate her to God. Going in procession with a company of maidens carrying torches, they presented their child at the Temple in Jerusalem, where Zecharias the High Priest took her under his care, blessing her with these words: "The Lord has glorified thy name in every generation; it is in thee that He will reveal the Redemption that he has prepared for his people in the last days." He then brought the child into the Holy of Holies — something completely unheard-of, for under the Law only the High Priest was allowed to enter the Holy Place, and he only once a year on the Day of Atonement. (In the icon of the feast, the maidens who accompany the Theotokos are shown bare-headed, as was customary for unmarried girls; but the Theotokos herself, though only three years old, wears the head-covering of a married woman to show her consecration to God.) The holy Virgin lived in the Temple for the next nine years, devoting herself entirely to prayer. In this time she attained the utter purity of heart befitting the destined Bearer of the Most High; she became in her own person the fulfilment and condensation of all of Israel's faithfulness. Saint Gregory Palamas says that, when the Theotokos entered the Holy of Holies, the time of preparation and testing of the Old Covenant came to an end for Israel, which was now ready, in the blessed Virgin, to bring forth the Savior. When Mary approached marriageable age, she was entrusted to the chaste widower Joseph to guard her. (The Prologue says that a life of intentional virginity was unknown among the Hebrews, so the righteous Joseph undertook the forms of marriage so as not to cause scandal among the people.) "Wherefore the Church rejoices and exhorts all the friends of God for their part to enter into the temple of their heart, there to make ready for the coming of the Lord by silence and prayer, withdrawing from the pleasures and cares of this world." (Synaxarion)

Welcome to the Daily Disciple Podcast. As daily disciples, we seek to adore and follow Jesus, our teacher, into the abundant life that he offers. Because we find Jesus irresistible, fascinating, and incredibly practical, we want to be students of his scripture. Today's episode is found in Psalm 23 "Gift Bearer"
She was the mother of the Apostles James and John, the wife of Zebedee, and the daughter of Joseph the Betrothed, who was a widower when he became betrothed to the Mother of God. She was a disciple of the Lord and one of the Myrrh-bearing women who first brought tidings of the Resurrection to the world.
She was from the town of Magdala on the Sea of Galilee, for which reason she is called "Magdalene." The Lord Jesus cast out seven demons from her, after which she became His faithful disciple, following Him even to the Cross when most of His disciples had fled. With the other holy Myrrh-bearers, she prepared the spices to anoint His body and carried them to His tomb. There she was one of the first witnesses to the Resurrection, and the first to proclaim it. Various traditions hold that, after Christ's ascension, she traveled to Rome, where she presented the Emperor with a red egg and proclaimed "Christ is Risen!" For this reason her icons often show her holding a red egg, and from this the tradition of distributing red eggs at Pascha is said to have arisen. She is then said to have travelled to Ephesus where she helped St John the Theologian in his gospel ministry before reposing there. Mary Magdalene is sometimes identified with the "sinful woman" of the Gospels, but this is not the Church's tradition. Neither the Gospels nor the sacred hymnography of the Church make this connection. The name 'Madeleine' is a form of 'Magdalene'.
