The Supreme Court heard two landmark cases this week, Hecox v. Little and West Virginia v. BPJ. These two cases are bundled together to decide the same question: whether trans girls can have equal access to public school sports. Imara was inside the courtroom to witness the intense legal discussions. Today's episode breaks down what could happen when the Court rules later this summer, and the far-reaching consequences the rulings could have for bodily autonomy. First, she speaks with Sasha Buchert, a senior attorney at Lambda Legal who helped with both of these cases. Then, she sits down with Andraya Yearwood, a former student athlete who was targeted by anti-trans groups in 2018. Today's Headlines: Six federal prosecutors in Minnesota resigned after the DOJ pushed them to investigate the widow of Renee Good — while still refusing to treat the ICE officer who killed Good as a civil rights case. The DOJ is now probing alleged ties between Good's wife and local ICE protest groups, a move prosecutors called a blatant inversion of justice. At the same time, Rep. Jamie Raskin is pressing DHS over reports that ICE is recruiting pardoned January 6 participants, asking how many now have guns, masks, and badges. That scrutiny comes as more than 50 House Democrats roll out articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for obstruction, civil rights violations, and alleged self-dealing. Trump escalated things in Detroit, announcing he'll cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities and states starting February 1 — targeting 11 states and D.C. labeled as sanctuary jurisdictions. Abroad, Iran's regime crackdown has reportedly killed more than 2,000 protesters. Trump says he's canceled talks with Tehran, urged protesters to “take over your institutions,” slapped new tariffs on countries doing business with Iran, and — as the regime jams Starlink — the White House has reportedly held quiet talks with exiled opposition figure Reza Pahlavi. In Epstein news, Bill and Hillary Clinton refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee about Jeffrey Epstein, instead sending an eight-page letter arguing the subpoenas are invalid and noting they already submitted sworn statements the committee accepted from others. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court heard arguments on state bans targeting transgender athletes, with signs the justices are unlikely to strike them down. And civil rights trailblazer Claudette Colvin, whose defiance on a Montgomery bus at 15 helped ignite the civil rights movement, has died at 86. The world feels heavy these days. Amidst the joys of new births and hopes fulfilled, we also hold loss, disappointment, fear, grief and anger. We are exhausted and brokenhearted. We are numb and overwhelmed. We are shocked and not surprised at humanity's inclination to do evil or rejoice over violence and loss of life ... and so we cry out, "How long, O Lord?" In times like these, we need holy spaces and holy moments of lament and hope, where we can join the psalmist's cries for justice and remember the stories of the prophets who came before us. We need to hear the words of Jesus who calls us to love our enemies, again and again, even as the tyrants rage. A time of worship, lament, prayer, community, and hope help us remember that the Lord is not far off, nor silent, but is listening. The Lord hears. We are not alone.

Humans were built for language and communication. It's one of the bits of creative genius God used when He formed His highest creation. And apart from regular communication, whether it's the written word or verbal, we have a great gift from a loving God: prayer.Prayer is an intensely personal way to communicate with our Creator, the One who knows everything about us.Jeremiah 29:12 says, “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you.”All through scripture, we see that God is available to us all the time. No regular hours or standing meetings. We can talk to Him anytime we want. There are 650 recorded prayers in the Bible, and we read about people praying while sitting, standing, kneeling, with faces to the ground or hands lifted up.By the way, amen means “let it be,” or “so be it.”The word appears for the first time in Numbers 5:22.Since prayer is human communication with God, we see that the first prayers were way back in Genesis 3 and 4 when Adam and Eve, and later Cain, talked with God. In the second exchange, even though Cain was angry and had just killed his brother, he was having a conversation with God.Jesus famously modeled prayer in Luke 11, and notice that He was talking to God the Father. It can be a fine line when thinking about how prayer is initiated. Often, thoughts come to our minds, or we're reminded to pray for someone. However, there's an indication that God prompts us to talk with Him.Galatians 4:6, that from our hearts we cry out, “Abba Father,” and that the indwelling spirit of the Lord prompts this in us. Of all the great gifts God has given us, prayer is one of the most special. It's how our spirits commune with the One who loves us with perfect love. And He's always ready and waiting to hear from us.Let's pray.Father God, we worship you for who you are. We love you, and thank you for loving us. Thank you for making a way for us to talk with you about the things that lie hidden in our hearts. In Jesus' name, amen.Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Eddie Glikin—a percussionist, organizer, and longtime pillar of the Athens, Georgia music scene. Born in Buenos Aires, raised in Israel and the United States, Eddie dug his heels in Athens in1978, and spent decades performing, recording, and touring with some of Georgia's finest musicians. But his most recent work steps beyond performance into something deeply personal and profoundly communal.Eddie is the driving force behind Rhythm of the Steeple People, a 27-track compilation album spotlighting Athens drummers and percussionists—not just as timekeepers, but as songwriters and storytellers. Three years in the making, the album brings together an extraordinary group of local musicians, all in support of Project Safe, a nonprofit that helps survivors of domestic abuse find safety and sanctuary. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to that mission, while recording and production support Nuçi's Space, another vital Athens nonprofit serving musicians' mental health. The project grew from a simple but powerful idea: that so many beautiful songs written by drummers are rarely heard—and that the world is missing out.Rhythm of the Steeple People is also a tribute. The project is dedicated to Eddie's daughter, Shannon Glikin, whose life and compassion continue to inspire this work.Eddie talks about the unseen voices behind the drum kit, the power of collaboration, and how music can be so powerful no matter where, what or how. This is my conversation with Eddie GlikinTO BUY RHYTHM OF THE STEEPLE PEOPLE CAN BE BOUGHT ONLINE ONLY.
