Welcome to the Grace Coach Podcast! Mike and Kevin share their insights from the Book of Colossians as they dive into Chapter 2:1-15. I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. Spiritual Fullness in Christ 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b] was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

The story of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is the core of the Gospel. Forgiveness of past sin, a life of fulfillment in the present, and an eternal future have been secured by what Jesus accomplished. Preaching Minister Gordon Dabbs, Ph.D., walks us through Colossians 2:9-15 and explores the impact of Easter weekend on our lives as followers of Christ. About the series. . . As followers of Christ, we're called to live in this world but not be defined by it. But what does that look like in our daily lives? How do we engage with culture, relationships, and challenges without compromising our faith? In the Kingdom Come message series by Preaching Minister Gordon Dabbs, Ph.D., we'll explore Jesus' call to live set apart, shining His light in a way that transforms rather than conforms. Each message will equip us to stand firm in our identity, make a difference in our communities, and navigate life with a kingdom perspective.Subscribe to PRESTONCREST - with Gordon Dabbs on Soundwise
“Easter is about more than we realize”: In this Easter sermon, Zack attempts to expand our imagination as Scripture expands our imagination. Jesus not only forgives our sins—but also liberates us, defeats death, and redeems all things. No system captures the fullness of Easter—which is precisely why Scripture has so many different ways of talking about Jesus' death and resurrection.

When someone places their faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ - they die. Jesus' death becomes their death. And that death they experience should impact the way they live.

Occult spiritual practices are nothing new. False teachers attempted to sway the church at Colossae into believing that if a person didn't have these kinds of spiritual experiences then that person didn't truly know God. Paul makes quick work of this false teaching by showing the Colossians that the only spirituality that matters is the one that is connected to Jesus.
Walk In Him, Colossians 2:6-7
Reformed Brotherhood | Sound Doctrine, Systematic Theology, and Brotherly Love
In this episode of The Reformed Brotherhood, Jesse and Tony explore Colossians 2:13-23, focusing on the sufficiency of Christ and the freedom believers have in Him. The conversation begins with a discussion on the legalistic practices that Paul warns against, such as strict food regulations, festivals, and other ceremonial laws, which are described as shadows pointing to the true substance—Jesus Christ. The hosts emphasize that Christ's work on the cross has fulfilled all these requirements, liberating believers from the constraints of legalism and empty religious rituals. The episode addresses the deeper theological implications of being “dead to the world with Christ.” This union with Christ means believers are no longer bound by man-made regulations or ascetic practices that offer no real value in battling sin or promoting true spiritual growth. Instead, believers are called to hold fast to Christ, the source of all spiritual nourishment and growth. The hosts also caution against the dangers of being disqualified by falling into legalistic or mystical practices, which disconnect believers from the sufficiency of Christ. Wrapping up, Jesse and Tony highlight the liberating power of the Gospel, stressing that true Christian freedom is found in living in accordance with God's moral law, not as a means of earning salvation, but as a joyful response to the grace and love of Christ. This episode is a call to reject legalism and embrace the freedom and sufficiency that comes through union with Christ. Key Points: The Shadows of the Old Testament Point to Christ: The Old Testament ceremonial laws, such as dietary restrictions, festivals, and Sabbaths, were shadows that anticipated Christ. With His coming, these shadows are fulfilled in the substance of Jesus. Union with Christ Brings Freedom: Being united with Christ means believers are no longer subject to legalistic or ascetic practices, as they are dead to the elemental spirits of the world and alive in Christ. The Dangers of Legalism and Empty Rituals: Legalism and man-made religious practices cannot bring about true spiritual growth or victory over sin. Instead, they risk disconnecting believers from the sufficiency of Christ. True Christian Freedom and Obedience: Freedom in Christ is not a license for self-indulgence but an invitation to live joyfully within God's moral law, empowered by His grace. Questions for Reflection: How does understanding Christ as the substance of the Old Testament shadows change the way you view the ceremonial laws? In what ways have you seen legalistic or ascetic practices fail to promote true spiritual growth in your life or in others? How can you hold fast to Christ as the source of spiritual nourishment in a world full of distractions and false teachings? What does true Christian freedom look like in your daily life, and how does it differ from a life constrained by legalism?

False teachers were telling the Christians at Colossae they had to obey commands in the Old Testament Law in order to be saved. Paul tells the Colossians they have no obligation to uphold the Old Testament Law now that they are in Christ. Why did Paul say that? Because the Law was the shadow that pointed ahead to Jesus.
There is an ongoing challenge of false teachings within the church. Believers need to remain vigilant and grounded in true doctrine.- Counterfeit Christianity can only be discerned by understanding authentic Christianity and the gospel message.- Counterfeit gospels may seem close to the truth but must be rejected.- Counterfeit Christianity is linked to sinister spirits and not just differences of opinion.(This recording also includes a testimony from Stacy Flores on the Hope Rock Ladies Conference).
