Today on Uncommon Sense, we're discussing what may be the most consequential political moment of Donald Trump's career. With Trump's approval ratings slipping, the Iran conflict escalating, renewed questions surrounding the Epstein files, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk continuing to reverberate through the conservative movement, many Americans are asking whether these events are isolated, or part of a much larger story. In this episode, I examine the connections I believe may exist between these developments, including my view that the Epstein files may have been used as leverage against powerful political figures and that foreign interests have exerted significant influence over American policy in the Middle East. We'll discuss:Trump's declining support among his baseThe growing controversy surrounding U.S. involvement with IranThe unanswered questions surrounding the Epstein filesThe political impact of Charlie Kirk's assassination and its aftermathWhy I believe these stories intersect in ways the mainstream media refuses to exploreMy goal is not to tell you what to think, but to encourage you to question narratives, follow incentives, and examine who benefits from the decisions being made in Washington.--https://www.bible.com/

The Congressional Black Caucus thinks they might… Our second guest, Congressman Jonathan Jackson of Illinois’ 1st district, is calling on Costco, Microsoft, John Deere, Apple, Ford, McDonalds, and others to do more. Our first guest is Maryam Jazini Dorcheh, Senior Director of Litigation for Common Cause, and one of the lead attorneys challenging Trump’s $1.7 billion slush fund. Trump is setting up a $1.7 billion fund to compensate “victims” of President Biden’s so-called “lawfare,” including folks convicted of crimes related to January 6th. On episode 133 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers ask: if Democrats get the majority after this year’s midterms, then what? We’ve seen Democrats win the senate, the house, and the presidency––and they still couldn’t protect the right to vote (or get an abortion) from future Republican administrations. In this midterms, what will we get for our vote? We need an agenda. Our hosts are less optimistic and have some advice for Mr. Talarico… FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: Some good news in the ongoing redistricting wars in South Carolina & Alabama, where proposed maps benefiting Republicans have been blocked. Get access to The Backroom (100+ exclusive episodes) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDimeOn this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined once again by Marxist writer Ted Reese, author of Socialism or Extinction and Abundant Material Wealth For All, for a wide-ranging conversation on AI, automation, capitalist breakdown, Marxism, technology, falling profit rates, monopoly, food, health, and the possibility of socialism in the 21st century.Ted argues that capitalism is not simply politically or morally bad, but increasingly obsolete on its own economic terms. As automation, AI, and productivity push commodity values down, capitalism responds through monopoly, rent-seeking, militarized technology, state dependency, and new forms of social enclosure. We discuss Henryk Grossman, Marx's theory of capitalist breakdown, whether AI makes Marxism more relevant or obsolete, why the left should not become anti-technology, and whether socialism could emerge through a more peaceful transition rather than a romanticized fantasy of violent revolution. In the Backroom episode on Patreon, Ted and I continue the conversation with a debate on immigration. I challenge the standard Marxist perspective on migration and argue that mass migration under capitalism is not a path toward international socialism, but a system tied to global capital mobility, labor discipline, brain drain, and the weakening of working-class political organization. We debate whether the current migration regime brings us closer to socialism or further away from it.Timestamps:00:00 The Backroom Preview: How Immigration Stops Socialism03:17 1Dime Radio Intro04:17 Introducing Ted Reese06:37 Abundant Material Wealth For All09:13 Can Socialism Happen Peacefully?14:22 International Revolution, National Politics, and Capitalist Breakdown16:23 Automation, AI, and Why Capitalism Becomes Obsolete23:53 Falling Profit Rates and Capitalist Decline27:00 Monopoly, Mergers, and the “Final Merger”30:09 AI, Robots, Neo-Feudalism, and Capitalism's Demand Problem36:53 Technology, Progress, and the Anti-Luddite Left42:47 Palantir, Militarized Tech, and State-Capitalist Dependency49:01 Why AI Will Get More Expensive55:46 Is Marxism Obsolete in the Age of AI?58:21 Capitalism, Food, Health, and Human Decay01:03:50 Get the Second Half in The BackroomGUEST:Ted Reese• X/Twitter: https://x.com/Grossmanite• Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/grossmanite• Linktree: https://linktr.ee/grossmanite• Abundant Material Wealth For All: https://grossmanite.medium.com/new-book-abundant-material-wealth-for-all-out-now-7d1ec5e9ac05FOLLOW 1Dime:• Substack (Articles and Essays): https://1dimereview.substack.com/• X/Twitter: https://x.com/1DimeOfficial• Instagram: instagram.com/1dimeman• Check out my main channel videos: https://www.youtube.com/@1DimeeLeave a like, drop a comment, and give the show a 5-star rating on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you listen to this.
On episode 131 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers field a listener question about whether it's worth voting when the ballot offers no candidate who actually represents her. It’s an especially potent question in light of redistricting, the recent Supreme Court gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and the chaos of states redrawing maps in the middle of an election cycle. FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans laughed and said "yes, yes to that" while a radio host told Hakeem Jeffries to "get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia." Kiggans later claimed she didn't hear the "cotton-picking" line. Jeffries is calling for her resignation. All six conservative Supreme Court justices attended Trump's state dinner honoring King Charles the night before the Louisiana voting rights decision dropped — a ruling that further guts the Voting Rights Act of 1965. A new study found that people who regularly engage with arts and culture — reading, listening to music, visiting museums — may biologically age slower. The effect may even equal regular exercise. On episode 130 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by guest Elie Mystal. Elie Mystal is an author, commentator, and the justice correspondent for The Nation. His fiery prose on the Supreme Court and legal issues writ large are unmatched, and in a seismic week for voting rights America, it’s a good time to welcome Elie home. The Supreme Court has fast-tracked their recent ruling which gutted what remained of the Voting Rights Act. They are allowing Southern states to change their electoral maps BEFORE the midterm elections, which will almost certainly dilute Black voting power. Our SCOTUS expert, Elie Mystal, weighs in. The last decade of Tiffany Cross’ life has seen heartbreak and betrayal, moving through failed relationships at the same time her country turned its back on her. In her new book, Love, Me, Tiffany writes about how she came home to herself. Tiffany’s book is a love letter to Black women in the struggle. She sees some of that struggle in the recent drama between basketball star Klay Thompson, and his (former) girlfriend, rapper Meg thee Stallion. Host Bakari Sellers knew he was against the death penalty–until white supremacist Dylann Roof killed 9 people at the African Methodist Episocpal Church in Charleston, South Carolina during a bible study. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, Black Americans are 7.5 times more likely to be wrongfully convicted of murder than whites. The Equal Justice Initiative has shown that for every 8 people executed on death row, 1 is exonerated. At times, maybe death is justice, but the administration of that justice is problematic, particularly in a racist justice system. Our hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari talk each other through complicated feelings around capital punishment. On episode 129 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by the one-and-only TIFFANY CROSS!! Renowned journalist, author, and former-NLP host, Tiffany Cross, rejoins the crew for a day to talk about the ongoing redistricting war AND tell us about her new book Love, Me. The redistricting wars swung in the direction of Republicans at the Supreme Court this week. SCOTUS heard arguments in Louisiana v. Callais, and allowed Louisiana to redraw its electoral map, removing a majority Black district, and rewriting the Voting Rights Act. This bellwether case will probably inspire similar redistricting moves in other Southern states. Our hosts take a look at how this affects the midterms and Black representation in Congress. The last decade of Tiffany Cross’ life has seen heartbreak and betrayal, moving through failed relationships at the same time her country turned its back on her. Her new book, Love, ME is a letter to Black women in a toxic country, career, and relationship. Find it wherever books are sold. FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS 1. After a politician has done something wrong, when do we say they are redeemed? When do we let them back in? Of course it’s different if it's a public figure like a politician vs. just a friend, but are there red lines where we never allow them back again? Viral-comedian Druski’s video mocking conservative women, particularly Erika Kirk, was spot on. It certainly caught the attention of viral-idiot Jake Paul, who mused on Theo Von’s podcast that he ought to do a blackface version of Druski’s skit. Join hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers along with guest-host Errin Haines for a conversation about the white desire to do blackface. President Trump has made headlines across the world for doubling down on threats to “send Iran back to the stone age” and bomb ALL of their infrastructure: railways, powerplants, bridges, etc. Destroying civilian infrastructure is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions (which apparently doesn’t mean anything anymore). Even Conservatives like Tucker Carlson, Majorie Taylor Green, and nut-case-in-chief Alex Jones have expressed alarm at Trump’s threats. In today's episode, host Angela Rye takes us on a journey into the mirror world of conservative media, to see how they’re responding to Trump's war with Iran. Iran has promised to retaliate against attacks on its infrastructure by attacking the oil and water infrastructure of neighboring gulf countries, which would likely cause a global humanitarian and economic catastrophe. Their argument centers around the 14th amendment, which was originally created to guarantee citizenship for formally enslaved African Americans. Another Judge ordered him to halt construction on the White House Ballroom. Yet another Judge ruled that the Trump administration must restore legal status for thousands of detained/deported immigrants. In addition, the Supreme Court heard arguments from the Trump administration this week to end birthright citizenship, the automatic granting of US citizenship to anyone born in the USA. What do we do when our favorite artists show conservative? Chilli, from the legendary girl-group TLC, was outed recently for donating to Republicans. She’s denied being “MAGA” but her online activity shows otherwise. How do we hold Black artists like her, Nick Cannon, Usher, 50 Cent, and others accountable without discounting what their work means to us? A promoter in Seattle was caught RED-HANDED covering a Black Lives Matter mural of Rahwa Habte with concert posters. Local community member (and our guest for today), Omari Salisbury, confronted him in a video that’s since gone viral. Our host, Angela Rye, will talk to Omari about the confrontation, and why seeing Rahwa’s mural covered struck such a nerve, as part of the larger gentrification happening in his neighborhood. Our very own Andrew Gillum hosts a town hall with Black mayors to discuss how local leaders are responding to federal actions (and inactions), and what protections cities are able to provide to their residents. Federal law enforcement actions are ramping up within our cities, directly impacting Black and immigrant communities. Residents are looking to mayors for leadership and protection while cities face legal constraints, political pressure, and public scrutiny. The Mayors will speak candidly about what local power truly looks like in practice, where their power starts and ends, and what strategies are currently in use. Guests Include: Mayor Frank Scott of Little Rock, AR Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah, GA Mayor Leonardo Williams of Durham, NC Welcome home y’all! —--------- We want to hear from you!
