Getting people to open up to one another and connect at work is not an easy thing. It wasn't easy before the world went remote, and now that many of us are somewhere in the middle of being half remote and half in-person, it's not getting any easier. But if we can get to know each other a little better and a little deeper, we will foster stronger connections. As we become more invested in one another, the work we do together will improve as a result. Together To Gather is a card game developed by Lia James from &Human and Jessie Shternshus from the Improv Effect to help leverage the power of great questions to inspire meaningful conversations. If you are looking for a really fun way to build deeper relationships with your team members or any group of people you interact with, you should definitely check out this interview. During our conversation, Jessie, Lia, and I talk about how and why the game works and discuss different use cases for it. You can even watch us play a few rounds and learn one of the reasons I was so bad at working in a recording studio. This interview was originally recorded using video. We meet our next guest, Lia James at her home in Baltimore. She's got this really cool old house and we meet in the garage so we can set up at her beautiful red oak table. Leah runs a program called Table of Strangers and it's where she comes into a city and sets up her insanely beautiful table and like a magnet, it attracts interesting characters, strangers, who then connect over a meal. It's a fabulous concept and certain to be a TV show. Lia is a self confessed collector of people, collector of friends. She's a Virginia native and she's now out of her corporate career, as a consultant and career coach, and really focused on another supernatural gift of human service. It's a great interview with Lia and we find out so much about her journey from her corporate career to her idea of strangers to Covid to eye surgery, and when she found a red wristband on the Florida convention and how it changed her life. Listen in to hear Lia, once a stranger to us, tell us her story. For behind the scenes content of the making of The Jar, meet the guests, see some footage of unreleased podcast episodes and more visit : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgTo be a guest on the show email us at thejarguest@gmail.com or visit our webpage : https://www.thejar.live/Follow The Jar on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Follow The Jar on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarDisclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. This episode first premiered on May 19, 2020. We chose this episode as the third Career Therapy Rewind because Martin and Lia both give very candid advice on how to approach the job search (and networking) if you're shy, introverted, or inexperienced at reaching out. Lia James has built her career across workforce development, curriculum design, inclusive hiring, writing, and storytelling, and joins us today to cover a myriad of topics centered around getting the job that's right for YOU. She's a “connector with an innate ability for bringing people together.” Her “mind is in a constant daydream of solution-chasing and people-matching as if a large Rolodex of puzzle pieces were magically flipping through [her] head.” Our conversation touches on vulnerability, networking tips & tricks, and what actually works in the modern day job search.
