Paul prays for his beloved church that they would be: Strengthened with power in their inner being by the Holy Spirit So that Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith (even though they were already believers!) So that they would be rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, and be overwhelmed by the depth, length, breadth, and height of that love And so be filled even more with all the fulness of God.
Pastor Mike Tapia, teaching from Philippians 1:3-11, explains the importance of spending time in God's Word, if we want to understand how we should walk as His children. For more information, please visit: https://ibcnj.org

by Pastor Chuck Ryan Paul's Prayer for the Church Text: Ephesians 3: 14-21 Thesis: “Prayer is the Key to Power” Pray that God will give you the power to grasp his love for you and his enormous ability to provide your every need! The family of God, both residence of Heaven and earth, derive their name from God the Father. (vs 14-15) Our name (more than a title) comes from God's name. We are revealed as “Saints” of God! “To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus.” (Eph. 1:1a) “Saint- a person acknowledged as holy or virtuous and typically regarded as being in heaven after death.” Paul envisions believers of both heaven and earth as one. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,” (Hebrews 12:1) Paul prays “out of God's glorious riches”. (vs 16) Paul comprehends the enormity of God's storehouse of blessings. “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32) Paul's twofold prayer for us: 1st- To be strong in the Lord and not weak in the faith. (Read vs 16-17) 2nd - To have the power to grasp the love of Christ for us and not weak minded. (Read vs 18-19) “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39) “God Loves You!” III. Paul's Faith in God is enormous as well. (Read vss20-21) He (Jesus) replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Mathew 17:20) The measurements of God's blessings are greater than what we can even ask for or imagine! It is impossible to ask God for more than He can provide. “God Can Do Anything but Fail!”
Colossians 1:9-14 is Paul's prayer for the Colossian believers, and a pattern we can follow in our own prayer life.

What does it mean for Christ to be glorified in us? The great English preacher Charles Spurgeon answered: “Even now His saints glorify Him. When they walk in holiness they do, as it were, reflect His light. Their holy deeds are beams from Him who is the Sun of Righteousness... Still the unformed clay is only in part seen and much remains to be done. How much more of the great Potter’s creating wisdom and sanctifying power will be displayed when we shall be the perfect products of His hand!” This was Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians. Verse 11 focuses on the process of salvation, or sanctification. First, Paul prayed that God would make them worthy of His calling. Second, he prayed that God’s power would “bring to fruition” or give success in “your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith” that is, good works. These are the ways in which believers grow and mature. Neither of these two prayers was in doubt— both were as good as answered. In that case, why pray? One reason is that God commands such prayers, especially for desires within His will. Prayer is part of what makes them happen. In addition, believers are encouraged to know that their brothers and sisters in Christ are lifting them up to the Father. Verse 12 focuses on the product of salvation, or glorification: Paul knew that in the fulfillment of these prayers the name of Christ - “name” indicates the totality of His Person—would be glorified in the Thessalonians, and the Thessalonians in Christ. The former means that Christ would receive glory due to His work in their lives; the latter means that because they’re united with Christ they would share in His glory. The same is true for us—all by grace! >> How’s your prayer life? We asked this question back on May 2 as well. Does your daily prayer list include God’s promises about salvation? If not, why not add them?

Paul makes a habit of praying for the saints who are faithful and bearing fruit. He asks God in a demanding way to cause them to know His will, to live lives that please Him, that they know Him even better, as they are strengthened by His grace to endure their walk with joy, and that they be thankful to Him for His gift of salvation.
