He Is Series Day #4 El Shaddai (God Almighty) Genesis 17:1 “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.” Today's name for God is El Shaddai. This means God Almighty. This verse is what God says to Abram right before He makes a covenant with Him and changes His name to Abraham. God promises Abraham that he will be the father of many nations and that his descendants will be too numerous to count. God made this covenant with Abraham 25 years before Abraham and his wife, Sarah, had a child together. I want to go into a bit of detail about this timeline because I have always heard that Abraham had to wait 25 years, but when I read further into Genesis Chapter 17, God tells Abraham that he will have the baby in one year. Here is a quick summary of the timeline. When Abram is 75 years old, God first calls him and tells him that he will be the father of nations. (Genesis 12:1-4) Then, after 15 years, Sarah gets tired of waiting and, honestly, probably starts to question whether the promise will come true. So, Sarah gives her handmaid to Abram, and they have a baby together. Abram is 86 when Ismael is born. (Gene 16:16) Then, 13 years later, God returns, and that is where this verse picks up. God changes their names to Abraham and Sarah and promises that Sarah will conceive within one year. At this point, Abraham is 99 years old. This is important to know because sometimes we think that if God is making a covenant with us and has a plan for our lives, then we will automatically see that plan come to pass. We start to doubt that God really has a plan for us when we don't see immediate signs. Or maybe we are ok waiting for a few weeks or a few months, but what if we needed to wait 25 years? I am not a fan of waiting. God and I talk about this all the time. I am continually asking why we can't go with my timeline rather than His. I am sure I am not the only one who asks Him this question. Do you ever feel tired of waiting? Do you ever wonder if it is really going to happen, since you have been waiting so long? I definitely know people who gave up hope that the thing they were praying for would happen. This is not unusual. It is hard to wait for God's time. Even Abraham and Sarah, who were chosen by God to be the parents of nations, got tired of waiting for God to give them a baby and took it into their own hands. Have you ever done this before? Have you ever gotten tired of waiting for the Lord to find you the right boyfriend/girlfriend and settled for the wrong one? Have you ever decided to do something, even though you were pretty sure it wasn't right, just because you wanted the dream to come true? When we force situations to fulfil God's promises, instead of letting God fill them in His perfect timing, things never work out well. I know waiting is hard. It is especially hard if you are waiting on something that you feel has a time limit. For instance, if you want to have a family and you feel your biological clock is ticking, it may be very hard to wait on the Lord. And I know it is easy to say that Sarah gave birth long after her childbearing days were over, but it's another thing to believe it can happen in this day and age. God will come through for you. It just requires a whole lot of patience to wait on Him. I have a friend who really wanted to be married and have a family. She was in her forties and feeling like it was never going to happen. However, she kept trying to hope that it would happen. She kept trying to believe God would come through and fulfill her deepest desires. This summer, she will have been married for two years to a man who is perfect for her. The two of them just make so much sense together. They even have the same sense of humor. It's so sweet to see them together! God will answer your prayers, too! Whenever I said this name for the Lord in this episode, a song instantly came into my head. It is a great song to demonstrate how Almight our God is! The song is titled Good God Almighty and it is sung by Crowder. I am going to share that song with you now.   [Verse 1] I can't count the times I've called Your name some broken night And You showed up and patched me up like You do every time I get amnesia, I forget that you keep coming around Yeah, ain't no way You'll ever let me down I love this verse because it reminds us that every time we call out to the Lord, He shows up. It also reminds us that we can cry out to him when we are broken; we don't have to wait until we fix ourselves before we do. I also love the imagery when the song says, you showed up and patched me up like you do every time. God is going to come and help you every time. Not sometimes, not occasionally, EVERYTIME! I also like how it shows us we are not alone when we forget that God is there, or when we forget to call out to Him. We forget that God won't ever let us down! [Chorus] Good God Almighty, I hope You'll find me Praising Your name, no matter what comes 'Cause I know where I'd be without Your mercy So I keep praising Your name at the top of my lungs If you have been listening to this podcast for a while, you know how much I love praise. So, you can see why I love this chorus. Crowder is saying that he hopes the Lord will find him praising His name no matter what comes his way. I pray this for each one of you. I pray, no matter what situation you are in, that the Lord will find you praising His name. Praise will change your situation so much faster than anything else will. I also love the line that says, “'Cause I know where I'd be without Your mercy.” Where would I be without God's mercy? Where would you be without God's mercy? [Post-Chorus] Tell me, is He good? (He's good) Tell me, is He God? (He's God) Hе is Good God Almighty [Verse 2] You say Your love goes on forevеr, that Your mercy never stops So why would I assume you'll be somebody that you're not? Like sun in the morning, I know You're gonna be there every day So what on Earth could make me be afraid? This verse is great because it reminds us that God is who He says He is. If He says His love is forever, and His mercy never stops, then why would we assume, or why do we worry that He will stop loving us or that He won't forgive us? I also love the reminder that just as the sun rises every single morning, so too will God be with us every single day! [Bridge] Praise Him in the morning, praise Him in the noon time Praise Him when the sun goes down Love Him in the morning, love Him in the noon time Love Him when the sun goes down This bridge is great because it reminds us how important it is to praise God all throughout the day. It is also important to love him all throughout the day. I don't know how much you praise the Lord, but if you praise Him more, you will notice a difference in your life. You will begin to notice that you are less negative and more open to those around you. You will see more good than bad when your focus is on praise. [Outro] Jesus in the morning, Jesus in the noon time Jesus when the sun goes down Jesus in the morning, Jesus in the noon time Jesus when the sun goes down And this ending couldn't be better. If we focus on God throughout our entire day, we will see how good El Shaddai really is. It is important to invite God into each part of your day. It doesn't have to take long. You don't have to spend 30 minutes praying in the morning, at noon, and when the sun goes down. But you could take a quick moment to pause and to invite the Lord into whatever you are doing. It will make things run smoother if you invite the Lord into it. The two main things to remember today. First, God is the Almighty one. His plan is better than your plan, and His timing is better than your timing! Second, sometimes God will give you a promise without a timeline. We don't know when God will decide it is time for that plan to be fulfilled. However, if we rush it and try to take it into our own hands, it never turns out the way we thought. It might still work out, but it won't be as amazing as the plan God had for us if we had just waited for it. Actually, there is one more thing: praise God while you wait. It will make the waiting time more bearable. Dear El Shaddai, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, you are amazing. You are the Lord God Almighty, and I am so grateful for all you do for us. Lord, please help us to have the patience and hope to wait for your perfect timing. Give us the strength and wisdom we need to not take things into our own hands. We love you and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. If you are enjoying this He Is series where we are learning more about who God is, please share it with a friend. I look forward to seeing you here tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! God is on your side and we are both rooting for you! Have a blessed day! He Is Series Day #3 El Roi (The God Who Sees Me) Genesis 16:13 “So she named the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are El-roi'; for she said, ‘Have I really seen God and remained alive after seeing him?” Today, we are talking about El Roi, the God who sees me. This verse is part of a longer conversation that an angel of the Lord had with Hagar. Let me briefly fill you in on the story of Hagar. The Lord promised Abram and Sarai that they would have a child. Actually, He promised that Abram would be the father of nations and his descendants would outnumber the stars in the sky. Yet Abram and Sarai had no children, and they were both well past the typical baby-making years. It had been over 10 years since God promised that they would have a child. Sarai got tired of waiting for God, and so she convinced Abram to take her Egyptian slave girl as his wife. He went into her, and she conceived a son. Sarai thought once she had a child, she would be happy. However, after the slave girl became pregnant with Abram's child, she looked with contempt at her mistress. She got mad and dealt harshly with Hagar, and so Hagar ran away. This is where the conversation happens. Genesis 16:12-13 “The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She said, “I am running away from my mistress Sarai.” The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her.”  The angel of the Lord also said to her, “I will so greatly multiply your offspring that they cannot be counted for multitude.” And the angel of the Lord said to her, “Now you have conceived and shall bear a son; you shall call him Ishmael, for the Lord has given heed to your affliction. He shall be a wild ass of a man, with his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him; and he shall live at odds with all his kin.” So she named the Lord who spoke to her, “You are El-roi”; for she said, “Have I really seen God and remained alive after seeing him?” What I want to focus on today is that God sees you. Some of us really need to hear that today. God sees you in whatever situation you are in. God saw Hagar. She was not one of the chosen people. She was a slave girl from Egypt. She was asked to marry her mistress's husband and to have a baby for them. She was doing as she was told, and yet afterwards she was acting as if she was better than her mistress, and so her mistress was treating her badly. I can imagine how unfair that felt to Hagar. She did as she was told, and now she was being unfairly treated. Has this ever happened to you? You followed directions, you did what your boss wanted you to do, and then it didn't turn out the way he or she wanted, and now he or she is mad at you? Did you ever feel like God was calling you to do something, and you obeyed, and then it felt like you were being punished for it? I wonder if Paul and Silas felt like this when they were captured, beaten, and thrown in jail for proclaiming the Word of the Lord? They were doing what God called them to do, and yet they were still put in jail. God sent an angel to talk with Hagar and to let her know that God sees her. He sees her and her situation. God let her know that he would greatly multiply her offspring. She could not believe that God not only saw her but also cared enough to send an angel to interact with her, and that she would live through the encounter. God saw her in this mess. God sees you in your mess, too. He sees you in an impossible relationship. He sees you trying to do whatever you can to pay your bills, even though you have no money. He sees you trying to parent your children even though you are overwhelmed. He sees you in your illness, desperately praying for a healing. God sees you! Let's go back to the example I gave of Paul and Silas being beaten and thrown in jail even though they were doing what God called them to do. God saw them in jail. He saw them in their situation, and he created an earthquake that shook the building so much that all the prison doors opened. Paul and Silas were free. What situation do you need God to come and free you from? Whatever the situation is, God sees you! If you are struggling right now. If you feel abandoned by God and wonder if he even sees you, or hears your prayers, know that He does!! He sees you right where you are, and He loves you! He loves you just as you are right now. He doesn't need you to change first. He doesn't need you to be different before He loves you. He loves you truly and completely just as you are now. He isn't waiting for you to be healed to love you. He isn't waiting for you to be anger-free to love you. He isn't waiting for you to be free of all your addictions for Him to love you. He loves you, just for being you, the real you. God sees the real you. Not the you that you pretend to be. Not the you that looks perfect in all your photos. Not the you that you want everyone else to see. He sees the real you. He sees all the places where you are pretending. He sees all the broken places. He sees all the hurt and betrayal you have gone through. He sees things about us that we can't even see. The other thing that God sees is how much we have grown. He sees how much we have changed. He sees all the progress we have made. Often, we don't notice it. We are hard on ourselves. We only see the negative. God sees it all. He sees the good, the bad, and the ugly, and He loves us anyway! Dear El Roi, I ask you to bless everyone who is listening to this episode today. Lord, thank you for seeing us. Help us to see ourselves the way you see us. Help us to see the beautiful things about us that you see. Help us to know in our hearts that you have not abandoned us, that you do see us! Help us to believe that there is nowhere we can go, and nothing we can do that will prevent you from seeing us. We love you, Lord, and we ask this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! God is on your side, and we are both rooting for you! Have a blessed day! Long before Bethlehem. Long before the manger. Long before a cross was ever lifted on a hill, God was already revealing Jesus. In today's Advent message we dig into one of the most powerful foreshadowings of Christ in the entire Old Testament. From God's call to Abraham, to the faith test on Mount Moriah, to the breathtaking moment when “the angel of the Lord” (the pre-incarnate Christ!) speaks from heaven—this story prepares our hearts to see Jesus in a whole new way. This sermon walks through: How Abraham's life foreshadows Jesus's coming and sacrifice The remarkable story of Isaac carrying wood up a mountain (2,000 years before Jesus did the same) How Christophanies (pre-incarnate Christ appearances) reveal Jesus in the Old Testament Why this ancient story matters for your faith TODAY How God's promises extend to you if you've placed your faith in Jesus As continue through The Jesse Tree this Advent season, we trace the family line of Jesus back to its roots—and discover that God's PROMISES, His FAITHFULNESS, and His PROVISION have been pointing to Christ from the very beginning. The Old Testament isn't just ancient history—it's a love letter revealing Jesus. If you need a reminder that God is still at work in your life even when you've messed up, this message will encourage your heart. Abraham's failures didn't disqualify him from God's blessing and neither do yours. God Loves YOU. Where are you seeing Jesus at work in your life this week? Let us know in the comments below! Need to go deeper? Study the Old Testament with eyes to see Jesus—it will transform your faith!

A lady driving from Washington, DC, to Richmond had a flat tire and sat stranded by the roadside praying for help. Two cars passed by—one with a “Smile, God Loves You!” bumper sticker, the other reading “Honk If You Love Jesus!”—but both drivers moved to the far lane without stopping. Then a man in an old pickup with no bumper sticker pulled over, changed her tire, and refused payment, saying he hoped someone would help his wife if she were stranded. Three men drove by that day, but only one chose the right side of the road. How can you know which side you would be on? Comfort is found on the wrong side of the road; compassion is found on the right side of the road. Through Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25–37, discover that when you have a heart for God, you'll have the heart of God—a heart of compassion that shows love with no limits to a world desperately needing mercy.

We can't eliminate rejection from our lives, but it doesn't have the power to keep us from God's best. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses rejection, its causes, and God's acceptance. Leaders like David, Moses, and our Lord Jesus all faced immense rejection in their lifetimes, and Pastor Allen speaks about how God helped each of them overcome. He also shares a few common causes of rejection: broken families, betrayal, and shame. While each of us will be touched by rejection in our lives, we don't have to live in its bondage. We can find freedom through our acceptance into God's Kingdom and His family.

Under the Old Covenant, God is rightly referred to as the Shepherd of Israel. However, under the New Covenant, God has assumed the role of the Shepherd of the Church, encompassing both Jews and Gentiles who believe in Christ. God's unwavering love and tender care for Israel serves as a mere glimpse into the depth of His love as the Good Shepherd. God's love for His sheep was fully manifested in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross, which provided the full redemption of His sheep. Part 1 of this inspiring teaching effectively presents God's immaculate, unconditional, and eternal love for you in Christ. Listen attentively and discern how God has demonstrated His love towards you and how you should respond accordingly.

This week Jon talks about a fun little narrative in John 6 where the disciples forgot to wait for Jesus and then got stuck in a storm.  While there fear and discouragement seems to have been the choice of the disciples, we find Jesus pursuing them and meeting their needs in the midst of the storm. As always, if you wish to discuss this further, feel free to shoot Jon an email at jon@christianoutdoors.org.

Do you know what the three most heard words in the English language are? Not the three most spoken words but rather the three most heard words. In this stand-alone message, Executive Pastor Dana Aaronson tells us that he thinks they are, "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.” We might admit that we often reach a point of saturation when people are trying to communicate to us. There's this auto response sometimes due to familiarity or unrelatability that triggers an “ear filter” that turns everything we hear into "BLAH BLAH BLAH." But today we are talking about three different words, words you might have heard before in other sermons. But if we can hear them fresh and speak them to ourselves often they could be difference makers in our lives! These three words are CONFESS, FORGIVE, and CELEBRATE. Watch and see what a difference they could make in your life!To access the resources Dana mentions click here:LIST OF SINS OF COMMISSION AND OMISSION   STEPS IN FORGIVENESS Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=S120y91zge5-Day Devotional: https://www.theharbor.life/blog/tag/blah-blah-blahDiscussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/Blah-Blah-Blah-SGQ.pdfFind us on:YouTube: YouTube.com/TheHarborInstagram: Instagram.com/TheHarbor_lifeFacebook: Facebook.com/TheHarbordotlifeWebsite: https://www.TheHarbor.lifeWatch/listen on The Harbor AppNew episode every week!

As we are quickly approaching Holy Week, Jon discusses some of the details that happened shortly before the Triumphal Entry (Palm Sunday).   This week he shares four truths all coming from John 11 and John 12.  If you are hoping to get the most out of this devotion it is encouraged that give John 11 and 12 a read.  Additional Scriptures to read: Joshua 4.6-7; Joshua 4.19-24; Luke 10.38-42; 1 Peter 2.4-5. Truth #1 - God's Timing is Perfect. Truth #2 - Devotion looks different with different people. Truth #3 - Holy words are often driven by selfish purposes. Truth #4 - Changed lives are monuments that declare God's work.
