Louise strongly encourages, almost begs us to PLEASE GO when we have loved ones in the hospital or in a debilitating situation. Your visits are life to the person in trauma and the family caring for them. You’ll hear about the spontaneity of two friends who drove through three states knowing they just had to go, even knowing they’d be “intruding” in an intimate space. They learned they were more a part of that intimacy than they ever realized. You’ll hear the power of a few words from the only method of communication they had with Archer - the ABC board. What Louise didn’t know is that very soon, they would all be brought to their knees longing for these moments of communication.Join Louise for this episode of Blink of an Eye: Episode 21 Never Underestimate the Humanity of Boys August 8. DAY 4. In this Episode you will hear interview excerpts fromJames Shiels: One of Archer's dear high school friends from the McDonogh School in Baltimore, and a Senior in college at California Berkeley at the time of the interview. Philippa Shiels: James Shiels’ mother, but a stranger then to Louise when Archer was injured except for seeing each other in passing at high school lacrosse games. She is now a dear friend to Louise.James Schmucker: Archer’s dear friend in Cape May who was a Beach life guard and saved his life rescuing him from the ocean who is now working in the hospitality industry.Pete Senft: Louise’s son and Archer’s oldest brother, who was 21 at the time of Archer’s accident and in college, and is now a civil engineer at Whiting Turner Construction Company. And live audio recordings from August 8, 2015 in the Intensive Care Unit
YA Author, Mara Rutherford - Reading for Young & Old: Kingdom of Sea and Stone The Not Old Better Show, Author Interview Series Welcome to the Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode #510. Today's show is brought to you by HelloFresh. As part of our author interview series, today we're speaking with Mara Rutherford, author of the new book the “Kingdom of Sea and Stone.” We're fortunate that Mara Rutherford has agreed to read a passage from the book for us today, but let me tell you a bit about Mara. Mara is back with us, with her newest novel, and you'll recall previously that Mara and I are related. My dear cousin Nancy had triplets, and Mara is one of three, who I've gotten to know well, and you'll know her a bit after our conversation today, but trust me when I tell you, this is not nepotism, but a great sequel and duology, from a book series, from a very hardworking author. Additionally, as I've mentioned previously, the Kingdom of Sea and Stone is an ideal read for all ages, but particularly so for grandparents and grandchildren. Hence, no favoritism here, just a great story for all. We'll have links up for more information about Mara Rutherford, but briefly, Mara Rutherford began her writing career as a journalist but quickly discovered she far preferred fantasy to reality. As I say, Mara Rutherford is a triplet born on Leap Day, and Mara holds a Master's degree in Cultural Studies from the University of London. Mara has since lived all over the world along with her young family and Marine-turned-diplomat husband. Mara Rutherford's sequel YA fantasy to the CROWN OF CORAL AND PEARL, the sequel is titled the Kingdom of Sea and Stone is available for sale now, published by HarperCollins. And now let's listen as Mara Rutherford reads from her new book, Kingdom of Sea and Stone: Please join me in welcoming back to The Not Old Better Show, author Mara Rutherford. And now back to our interview with young adult author, Mara Rutherford. Mara, thanks again for joining us, and we appreciate the insider info, but without too much spoiler, but let's talk about Nor... The Netflix original series “The Crown”, which has to do with the last months of the reign of King George VI and the first years of the reign of his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, demonstrates how societies must be grounded in God-given moral values for them to flourish. In this episode, Bishop Barron brings to light the theological underpinnings of the show, which serve as an encouragement for anyone struggling to pursue God's plan for her life. The listener question asks how Bishop Barron is able to discover spiritual themes in popular media. Please Go to iTunes and Leave us a Review! Topics Discussed 0:17 - Introduction and a reprisal of Bishop's “Simpsons” visit. 3:10 - What makes “The Crown” such good TV? 5:20 - How was the Queen's coronation a call from God to carry out her duty? 8:40 - How would compare the English monarchy to our American democracy? 13:30 - How is it that God anointed her to be queen when she clearly had circumstance put her there? 15:10 - How does God's plan for our lives tend to upset the comfort of our lives and our relationships? 20:22 - What advice would Bishop give to priests who are ordained to fulfill God's mission? 23:00 - Why are Americans so attracted to the idea of monarchies? Is there a biblical nostalgia in that somehow? 25:38 - Question from listener: How does Bishop Barron draw out Christian themes from popular media? Even when we know feedback strengthens relationships, in a marriage it’s easy to give input out of anger, at the wrong time, or to avoid the process entirely. In this episode we discuss practical steps for getting feedback from your spouse and how this process can strengthen your relationship. Have I done anything to hurt you recently? If so, what? Do any of my friendships make you uncomfortable? What’s one thing that I do that bothers you that I don’t seem to realize? Is there anything that you’re nervous to talk to me about? If so, what? In what ways do you ever feel disrespected by me? In what ways would you like to change our level of emotional intimacy? In what ways would you like to change our level of physical intimacy? In what ways do I cause you to feel unloved? Do you have any secrets that you’ve been afraid to tell me? Remember to end with a couple of positive questions. What do you think we are doing well? What do you love most about our marriage these days? Bonus family questions (as mentioned) What could I do to be a better parent? What could I change to make our relationship better? Talk About This: This week is all about talking through the questions above. Please GO for it! If you haven’t left us a review yet, please do so!!
