On the anniversary of 9/11, Martha sat down with the Bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, MN, founder of the Catholic ministerial organization 'Word on Fire,' and formerly the host of 'Catholicism,' Bishop Robert Barron, to discuss the current divide in America. Bishop Barron was also a friend of Charlie Kirk's, who was tragically killed earlier this week while speaking at an event in Utah. Bishop Barron hopes that Charlie's death won't be the end of his movement; he wants people to continue Charlie's message of unification as they navigate a path forward. AWR Hawkins, Andy Hooser and Stephen Zaida Summary In this episode of Armed American Radio, host Mark Walters discusses the fundamental principles of rights and government, emphasizing that rights come from God rather than man-made laws. The conversation features insights from A.W.R. Hawkins and Andy Hoosier, who delve into the implications of Tim Kaine's controversial statements regarding rights. The episode also highlights the importance of education on these topics and the role of organizations like Patriot Mobile in advocating for conservative values. Takeaways Rights come from God, not government. Tim Kaine's statements reflect a dangerous ideology. Inalienable rights are intertwined with our humanity. The government should secure rights, not define them. Education on rights is lacking in today's society. Patriot Mobile stands for faith, family, and freedom. Democrats aim to control rights through legislation. The progressive agenda seeks to diminish individual freedoms. Bishop Barron's response highlights historical principles. Evil exists, and we must be prepared to defend against it. Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel (Luke 5:1-11), we see a glorious invasion of grace. Christ Jesus gets into Peter's boat and commands him to put out from the shore and lower the nets for a catch.Along with James and John, the sons of Zebedee, and other fishermen, they all astonishedly caught a great number of fish. Then Simon Peter fell at the knees of Jesus and said,"Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."Luke recounts:Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; From now on, you will be catching men.""When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him."Bishop Barron explains that in many ways, the whole of the spiritual life can be read off of this piece."The single most important decision that you will ever make is this: Will you cooperate with Jesus once he decides to get into your boat?""When the Lord Jesus Christ gets into your boat, he will always lead you to the spiritual depths of transformation."Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Friends of the Rosary,In today's reading (Matthew 19:16-22), Christ Jesus encourages us, through the words to the rich young man, to be perfect and cultivate a treasure in heaven by avoiding any attachment to material possessions. He says, “If you wish to be perfect, go,sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”God, pure love, means a life in friendship with him, of self-forgetting love. This should bring us to cut out of our lives certain things that impede love.Bishop Barron writes, “The spiritual life, at the highest pitch, is about giving your life away, and this is why his many possessions are a problem.”“And at this point the young man tragically balks.”Christ Jesus is the fulfillment, the infinite good and love that the soul wants.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! John the Baptist’s role as the Preparer for one greater than himself was vital to the Gospels’ Messiah narrative. John the Baptist and his pre-messianic preachings about repentance and God's final judgement would form the bedrock of the early Christian faith. E126. Bishop Barron argues that the Reformation's legacy is 30,000 denominations and doctrinal chaos. Is Protestantism fatally fractured? Michael Horton, Bob Hiller, Walter Strickland, and Justin Holcomb address the charge of division by exploring the Protestant understanding of visible and invisible church unity, the authority of Scripture, and the nature of confessional agreement. We bring you the second half of Bishop Barron's keynote address at this year's inaugural international Evangelisation & Culture conference in London. In the first half, Bishop Barron focused on the first two of four themes of the Bible, namely, creation and the God of Israel. Today, we conclude his address with the final two themes, right praise and kingship, and we learn how these patterns are gathered together in Christ Jesus. I had the privilege of listening to Bishop Barron preach on how Jesus is like the Good Samaritan. My favorite part of the homily is that the Catholic Church is kind of like the inn. We are helping those wounded by sin recover from their injuries.
Earlier this year, we hosted Word on Fire's first international Evangelisation & Culture conference in London, at which Bishop Barron gave the keynote address. He focused on four themes of the Bible, examined the themes of creation, the God of Israel, right praise, and kingship. Today, we'll hear the first of those themes as we prepare for how those culminate in the person of Jesus Christ. Enjoy. The meaning and socio-political implementation of the term “multiculturalism” has become a flashpoint throughout the West. Supporters of multiculturalism argue that societies that embrace diverse norms and values are not only more dynamic and vibrant, they are also more just and represent the ideal form of the modern democratic state. On the other hand, critics of multiculturalism argue that permitting or deliberately engineering a society that embraces different and even contradictory norms and values is not only incoherent, it undermines the very foundation of a stable civic order. What can Catholicism contribute to this often rancorous debate? Amidst all the diversity within the Church, it remains theologically, morally, and institutionally unified. What makes this possible, and what lessons does it have for the wider world? A listener asks for tips on how to evangelize young people. 00:00 | Introduction 01:43 | Bishop Barron's confirmation season 02:57 | Defining culture 03:43 | Does “cultural appropriation” contain an accurate understanding of culture? 08:25 | Defining multiculturalism 09:28 | Are all cultures equally valid? 12:58 | Evaluating majority rule 14:44 | Evaluating minority rule 17:51 | Understanding a multiplicity of cultures as good 22:25 | Insights from natural law for addressing multiculturalism 24:19 | Unity as a prerequisite for diversity 28:29 | Unpacking the Catholic conception of inculturation 30:16 | Practical advice for applying these principles 31:40 | How does one evangelize an unlovable culture? 33:55 | Listener question: How does one catechize the young? 36:23 | Join the Word on Fire Institute Links: Word on Fire Institute: https://institute.wordonfire.org/ NOTE: Do you like this podcast?
