In February 2025, Bishop Barron returned to the Palace of Westminster in London, UK, to address religious leaders and members of Parliament. The focus of his talk was the rhythm of divine mercy—the abounding love that arises within us when we accept the grace of Christ. Today we bring you the second half of that talk. Enjoy! We continue celebrating twenty-five years of proclaiming the Gospel; evangelizing the culture; supporting the faithful; and inviting the disaffiliated, the forsaken, and those who have fallen away back to Christ and his church. However, over the years, attacks against Bishop Barron and Word on Fire have come from many sources, including online anti-evangelists who hate religion in general and Christianity in particular and from those who posture themselves as the Church's greatest defenders. What is the substance of these detractions? What motivates them? Do they pose an actual threat to the ministry? What can they teach us as evangelists about how to respond constructively to public criticism, especially when it's vicious?    A listener asks how we should understand the meaning and implications of “turning the other cheek.”  00:00 | Introduction 01:32 | Standing for life with the DOWR seminarians 02:27 | Do any of your critics surprise you? 03:40 | Early interaction with YouTube comments 05:28 | Criticism #1: You're too conservative—or too liberal 06:38 | Your critique of “beige Catholicism” is unfair and trivializing 09:45 | Criticism #2: Prioritizing beauty is a luxury 14:00 | Criticism #3: The thinkers you reference are only appropriate in academic settings 17:18 | Criticism #4:You've joined Balthasar in promoting universal salvation 20:01 | Criticism #5: You're too political—or not political enough 25:46 | Criticism #6: Your critiques of wokeism are one-sided and unfair to social justice 31:57 | Criticism #7: You're too supportive of Vatican II—or not supportive enough 35:50 | Criticism #8: You don't discern the platforms on which you appear 41:29 | Advice for responding to public criticism 42:33 | Listener question: How do I “turn the other cheek” without enabling the offender? 44:54 | Join the Word on Fire Institute Links: “Dare We Hope” Resource Page: https://www.wordonfire.org/hope/ Word on Fire Institute: https://institute.wordonfire.org/ NOTE: Do you like this podcast? Become a Word on Fire IGNITE member! Patrick explores the tradition of the Easter greeting “Christ is risen—He is risen indeed,” and explains why Sunday Mass obligation does not apply when someone must care for a loved one in crisis. Patrick discusses the meaning behind the 153 fish in John’s Gospel and explains that Catholics can fulfill their Sunday obligation at any rite in communion with Rome. He addresses why cardinals over 80 do not vote in the Conclave, shares concerns and opportunities around the rapid rise of AI, and suggests how to find wholesome movies using new technology. Patrick encourages listeners to keep learning, stay curious, and live out their faith with confidence. Jen (email) - Give us a little lesson on the “Christ is risen” and the response “He is risen indeed.” (00:38) Andrea – I couldn’t make mass yesterday. Do I need to go to Confession? (03:41) Judy (email) – My reaction to the meme of DJT as Pope was a chuckle followed by, to quote Winni the Pooh, “oh bother”. (06:09) Mary - Can Cardinals above the age to vote still attend Conclave? (08:41) David - What does the 153 fish in yesterday's Gospel represent? (11:13) JuanLuis (email) - I know there are several Catholic churches in communion with Rome, and I would like to know if I can attend Sunday services in another Catholic church, such as a Byzantine Catholic church. Would I be fulfilling my Sunday mass obligation? (15:00) John (10-years-old) - Can religious people marry non-religious people? (18:06) Audio: AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton says the world is not prepared for what's coming (22:55) Klinsmayer (email) - I found out this weekend on Life Site news that the Governor (Catholic) of Washington signed a bill that demands that priests break the seal of confession under circumstances involving a crime. (29:34) Joel (email) - Yes the Trump as Pope meme was dumb. What was not dumb was the National Prayer Service Day last week that President Trump hosted at the White House and It was really nice to see Bishop Barron offering his prayers live at this event. (32:41) Daniel (email) - Rumor has it “Smoke Watch” changed their band name to Deep Purple and later paid homage to the original name with the hit, Smoke on the Water. (33:37) Greg (email) - If a man has ED, how is the marital act supposed to be completed in the normal manner with his wife? (35:04) Patrick walks through how he uses AI to help him pick a movie to watch (39:06) Charles - AI singularity: I think some are taking it too far and they think humans can become God. (43:48)

Word on Fire is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. That's twenty-five years of proclaiming the Gospel, evangelizing the culture, and working hard to bring people to—or back to—Christ and his Church. It's worth pausing to look back to remember where it all began and how the ministry has grown along the way. What is Word on Fire's origin story? When, where, and why did Bishop Barron—then Fr. Barron—first conceive of the idea to found Word on Fire? What were the early years like? What have been some major developments along the way? What obstacles were encountered, what lessons learned? And what does the future look like for the next five, ten, and even fifty years? A listener asks how he might be able to become a part of the Word on Fire religious order.  00:00 | Introduction 01:22 | Minnesota bishops visit state capital 02:55 | A brief look at Bishop Barron's early priestly life 06:18 | Bishop Barron's cathedral project 06:58 | Word on Fire's beginning 09:49 | Beginning the Catholicism series 11:24 | Cardinal Francis George 14:30 | Early days with Fr. In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by my friend Matthew Becklo, writer, editor, and Publishing Director for Bishop Barron's Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, to talk about the Catholic "both/and" paradigm that uniquely defines the Church that Christ founded. Neither "earthbound" or too "heavenly-minded," Becklo shows how, time and again, the Catholic Church walks the line between being too worldly and being too disengaged with the world. In how the Church worships, the role of the sacraments, Christology, the nature of the Church, and the Protestant Reformation. Becklo demonstrates how throughout history the Catholic Church has paved the way which balances both the role of Scripture and the place of tradition. This is such a deep and fascinating conversation. Welcome to our deep-dive into the question: How do we know God exists? In this series, we return to the topic of God's existence, which we covered aaall the way back in Episode 2 (!!), and we break it open to explore it more deeply. In this episode, we look at St. Thomas Aquinas's first three 'ways', or arguments for God's existence. These are among the most famous arguments for the existence of God, and they have been hugely influential in the history of the Philosophy of Religion. They have also been at times misunderstood and misrepresented, so in this series we're taking the time to delve deep and understand what, exactly, Aquinas is arguing. In today's episode, Brett shares surprising and hopeful trends in the Church. Namely, the reported increases in the number of adults entering the Catholic Church. Dioceses across the United States, Canada, England, and Australia have all reported increases, even record numbers of adults becoming Catholic. He also shares recent data showing that the once staggering increase in “Religious Nones” has all but stopped. In fact, in the past two years, there has been a slight decrease in the number of people reporting their lack of religious affiliation. The episode concludes with Brett commenting and expanding on some of the recent teachings from Bishop Barron on how to strategically reach the “nones.”   References: https://thecatholicherald.com/adult-baptisms-in-france-rise-for-fourth-year-in-succession-show-accelerating-growth/   https://www.ncregister.com/cna/nonreligious-population-in-u-s-has-plateaued   https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/263161/post-election-data-shows-nonreligious-population-in-us-has-plateaued   https://www.graphsaboutreligion.com/p/the-nones-have-hit-a-ceiling   https://www.oursundayvisitor.com/bishop-barrons-five-paths-for-bringing-the-unaffiliated-back-to-the-church/   Subscribe/Rate Never miss out on an episode by subscribing to the podcast on whatever platform you are listening on. Historical Jesus ACAPELLA presents the enthralling, riveting, epic story of Christian music. One cannot underestimate the importance of Christian Hymns and how their powerful melodic messages greatly shaped modern Christianity. The Bible is the most significant book in the Western canon. It’s also the book upon which the post antiquity Western civilization was built upon, including the occidental music traditions. Together we will try and understand why this immensely important and influential book, religion, and its vocal hymns inspired so many of the faithful over the centuries. Although our planet is populated by adherents to many different religions, as well as secular atheists and agnostics, one should never undervalue the key role played by Christianity and the Judeo-Christian traditions in the evolution of the ecclesiastical and popular music we enjoy today. Friends of the Rosary,As we recite in the entrance antiphon today and learn in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:1-3, 11-32), Our Lord is kind and full of compassion and mercy.God only desires our good. The Father “ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.” With the troubled older son, He does the same. He wants nothing more from us today than our “yes,” by which we “come to life”—everlasting life. The prodigal son's parable tells us about our relationship to God. He gives us everything, and we exist through him at every moment. But the sin appears, and we break with him. Rupture or division dominates our life until we come to our senses and return to the Loving Father.God sees us coming and cheerfully runs to meet us. He puts a ring on us, symbolizing the reestablishment of the right relationship between us and the Divinity.“The Bible is not the story of our quest for God, but of God's passionate, relentless quest for us,” explains Bishop Barron.Yesterday, March 21, 2025, marked the fifth year since we started praying the Holy Rosary of Mary daily within this community. "Maybe Christianity should become weird again." Reading the works of the early Church fathers has brought countless non-Catholic Christians into the Church and has strengthened so many Catholics who are already in the heart of the Church.   David Augustine (who said the quote above on this week's Let Me Be Frank) has compiled and edited The Early Church Fathers Collection for Bishop Barron & Word on Fire. David & Bishop Frank tackle questions like: Who were the Church fathers? What can modern readers take away from each of the Church fathers? Why & how did Tertullian veer off track?   ...and somewhere along the way, David suggested we should make Christianity weird again.

Are Christians required to love everyone equally? This question has recently become a matter of public and even political debate. So how should we answer? It seems necessary to ask what “loving thy neighbor” means in practice; for example is the love between friends, the love between spouses, the love within a family, the love among compatriots, and even the love of an enemy all the same kind of love? Do these relationships all entail the same kinds of moral responsibilities? Might it be reasonable to say, for example, that we have a greater obligation to care for our own children over others' children, our own friends over strangers, and our own country over other countries? If so, however, how can Christians coherently claim that we love all people equally? A listener asks how to forgive and let go of bitterness. Friends of the Rosary,On this Saturday after Ash Wednesday, in our itinerary of conversion of Lent, the Lord Jesus tells us, through the instantaneous conversion of Matthew (Luke 5:27-32), to get up and follow him from a lower form of life to a higher, from a preoccupation with the temporary goods of this world to an immersion in the goodness of God.“Follow me,” Jesus tells Matthew in today's Gospel. It's a call to repentance and conversion, “Walk as I walk; think as I think; choose as I choose,” as Bishop Barron explains.A life of discipleship entails an entire reworking of the self according to the pattern and manner of Jesus. It's an invitation to contemplate life in its whole dimension. Our earthly life is a kind of illusion; a false self is not entirely authentic. It's how the father of the prodigal son says, “This brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.”St. Paul gives us the real meaning, “It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.”Lent calls us to be transformed and liberated in Christ by purifying in the desert through fasting and discipline, following him in his Passion to the Calvary, and entering the glory of the Resurrection on Easter.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary!+ Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New!
