Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel (Luke 5:27–32), Luke recounts how Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post."He said to him, “Follow me.”And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him. Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectorsand others were at table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”Jesus said to them in reply,“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”The call of Jesus to Matthew — as we see it in the painting of Caravaggio, above — has the sense of “walk as I walk; think as I think; choose as I choose.” It means a self-reordered according to the pattern and manner of Jesus.“Following Jesus is indeed a kind of resurrection from the dead, since it involves the transition from a lower form of life to a higher, from a preoccupation with the temporary goods of this world to an immersion in the goodness of God,” writes Bishop Barron. Those who have undergone a profound conversion tend to speak of their former life as a kind of illusion, something not entirely real. It's the “false self” that has given way to the authentic self. It's the father of the prodigal son saying, “Your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.”Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Friends of the Rosary,Today, the Church honors the Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order in an Optional Memorial. There were seven noble Florentines in Italy who, in the thirteenth century (1240), banded together to found the Order of Servites of the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially dedicated to penance and the preaching of the seven sorrows of our Lady in the passion of our Savior. Our Lord Jesus warned his disciples against the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod. Christ wants all the baptized to be the transforming leaven in the secular world by carrying their holiness. The faithful have all received the universal call to holiness. It means to give rise to a new way of ordering things.  A new way born of love for God and love for neighbor. But this never happens overnight. It starts in small ways, when people begin living according to the Lord's teachings. “And then, in God's time, this new community begins to have a leavening effect on the wider society,” says Bishop Barron.Today is also the day before Ash Wednesday, called Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, and it is a traditional feast honoring the Holy Face of Jesus.Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Friends of the Rosary,Our modern society, ideologies, and man-made religions try to convince us that all of life is all about us, our interests, views, and personal agendas. The vast majority of people believe that. But that's a lie promoted by the Master of Lies. The reality is that each and every one of us is part of God's great design. Your life is not about you, and you are not in control. Our problem is that our faith is very insufficient. We trust the Creator with limitation. In today's reading (Mark 8:11–13), the Pharisees ask Jesus for a sign from heaven. They test the Lord because they have no faith or trust in him.“Faith is openness to what God will reveal, do, and invite. It should be obvious that in dealing with the infinite, all-powerful God, we are never in control. This is why we say that faith goes beyond reason,” writes Bishop Barron.By definition, we are not dealing with a person.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! So on this weeks podcast we are sharing a reflection from Bishop Robert Barron (from Word on Fire) on the three habits to get the most out of Lent.  Bishop Barron reminds us that during this time of preparation, the Church asks us to cultivate a deeper friendship with God through prayer, to control and reorder our desires for physical goods through fasting, and to show our love in the concrete way of giving alms. We have our regular run through the liturgical odds and ends for the coming week including the saints of the week (noting that the saints take a slight back seat during Lent) and a prayer reflection from Monica Brown. In part three we have our reflection on the Sunday gospel where we continue with Matthews account of the Sermon on the Mount and what is a challenging gospel this week calling us to look ask ourselves about our deeper understanding of our relationship with anger, desires and truthful integrity in what we say. Text us at +353 874668950 or email at comeandseeinspirtaions@gmail.com

Tucker Carlson has ignited a fierce public clash with conservative commentator Mark Levin over U.S. policy toward Iran. Responsible Statecraft reports that Carlson posted a scathing ten-paragraph essay on X this week, accusing Levin of lobbying the White House for regime change and war after meeting with Trump officials. Carlson dismissed claims of Iran being weeks from a nuclear bomb as lies repeated since the 1990s, warning that demands for zero uranium enrichment would force a conflict many Americans would die in. The post, now over 5.4 million views strong, drew support from figures like Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna, former Rep. Matt Gaetz, Quincy Institute's Trita Parsi, and American Conservative editor Andrew Day, who all echoed Carlson's antiwar stance amid fragile Trump administration talks. His media ventures continue to thrive, with CNN Business noting that venture capital firm 1789 Capital, where Donald Trump Jr. recently partnered, invests in Carlson's company alongside other conservative projects. This ties into broader scrutiny, as Democratic senators like Elizabeth Warren raised alarms over Pentagon contracts and loans worth hundreds of millions to 1789-backed firms, questioning potential conflicts.A new book, Hated by All the Right People by New Yorker writer Jason Zengerle, released January 27, traces Carlson's evolution from mainstream conservative to a dominant right-wing voice, highlighting his post-Fox shift further right. Fresh Air and Jewish Insider also spotlighted the book for showing how Trump's rise revived and radicalized his career.Carlson recently interviewed economist Peter Schiff, arguing Bitcoin or Tether could replace the weakening U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency, though Schiff called crypto a complete waste beyond speculation. He's also slated to speak at Saudi Arabia's Real Estate Future Forum alongside Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. Meanwhile, Bishop Barron publicly corrected Carlson's errant views on Catholicism in a January 27 workshop video. These moves underscore Carlson's growing sway in steering MAGA away from neoconservative wars while fueling debates on his influence in Trump's world. Thanks for listening to the Tucker Carlson News Tracker podcast—please subscribe for more updates. Friends of the Rosary,Saints are like anyone else, despite how we consider them as spiritual heroes preserved from our day-to-day activities. They struggled with the same things we do, and loved the same things we do. They are not simply models to be admired. There are saints in ordinary life, in art and poetry, in motherhood, psychology, and even politics. There is a huge diversity. Each one uniquely reflects some aspect of the divine reality. The only difference is that they were smart enough to understand that what finally matters is having a holy life by being the person that God wants us to be.Above all, the saints are friends of God.And we can find a saint who is like every one of us.Léon Bloy wrote, "There is only one sadness, and that is not to be saints."Let's keep in mind that only people in heaven will be saints.Bishop Barron wrote about the diversity of saints:"There is Thomas Aquinas, the towering intellectual, and there is the Curé d'Ars, who barely made it through the seminary. There is Vincent de Paul, a saint in the city, and there is Antony, who found sanctity in the harshness and loneliness of the desert. There is Bernard, kneeling on the hard stones of Clairvaux in penance for sins, and there is Hildegard of Bingen, singing and throwing flowers, madly in love with God. There is Peter, the hard-nosed and no-nonsense fisherman, and there is Edith Stein, secretary to Edmund Husserl and colleague to Martin Heidegger, one of the most famous philosophers of the twentieth century. There is Joan of Arc leading armies, and there is Francis of Assisi channeling peace. There is the irascible Jerome and the almost too sweet Thérèse of Lisieux. There is Catherine of Siena, who stood up to popes, and Celestine V, who only reluctantly became pope. There is the grave and serious Bruno, and there is Philip Neri, whose spirituality was based on laughter."Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan show, evolutionary biologist and public intellectual Bret Weinstein observed that two emerging features of contemporary societies, especially, though not exclusively in the West, are challenging the very meaning and purpose of human life: 1) the decoupling of human sexuality from human reproduction—defining sex primarily as recreational and 2) with the rise of AI and robotics, the real possibility that having a job will become entirely optional in the future. By secular standards, pursuing both of these goals seems entirely rational, if not laudable: raising children and going to work are, indeed, challenging, so why shouldn't we live in a world in which both become increasingly rare? Weinstein, however—who doesn't profess adherence to any religious tradition—suggests that humanity may lose something important, if not essential, if we continue down this path. Is he right to be concerned? Is it, in fact, wise to relegate having children and going to work—which defined how most people spent most of their adult lives throughout history—entirely to the realm of subjective preference? Or, in seeking ever greater freedom from these responsibilities, are we undermining what it means to live a fully human life? A listener asks: How can I respond to "God loves me the way I am"? Celebrated by many Western Christian denominations, including Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, and other Protestant Churches such as Methodists and Moravians, The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord commemorates Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, marking the start of His public ministry and the first manifestation of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). It's a liturgical feast that concludes the Christmas season, typically observed on the first Sunday after Epiphany (January 6th) in Western Christianity, bridging to Ordinary Time, and it signifies the beginning of Christian life through baptism, uniting believers with Christ. Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link! The spark was small—a tweet from Bishop Barron about synodality and doctrine—but the questions behind it are huge: What should a synod actually decide? How did “the spirit of Vatican II” turn into perpetual uncertainty? And why are everyday Catholics still getting side-eyed for kneeling at communion? We open the hood on a consistory that could reset expectations, sift Barron's argument for what it gets right and wrong, and get painfully practical about reverence, freedom, and pastoral authority.Along the way, we share a happier twist: a priest reached out and offered to accompany our Italy trip, making daily Latin Mass not only possible but likely across private chapels in Rome and beyond. That momentum matters. People don't want liturgical roulette; they want beauty, clarity, and worship that deepens faith. The pastoral playbook that treats piety as a problem is wearing thin, and that comes into sharp focus with a diocese banning portable kneelers for the elderly and Jonathan Roumie describing how he was told to stand when he tried to receive on his knees. Reverence isn't performance; it's love braving friction. We don't dodge the tough map either. Under Francis, a common foe united disparate trad corners. Under Leo, the tone is calmer, but the doctrinal direction still worries many. Could a non-territorial jurisdiction—an ordinariate-style solution with bishops from traditional communities—offer stability without schism? Maybe. Or maybe it risks a new ghetto unless leaders honor what's already law: the right to kneel, the right to receive on the tongue, and the call to worship God with proper solemnity. We're watching the consistory, reading the dubia, and building something constructive: a pilgrimage ordered to daily prayer and the Eucharist. If this conversation hits home, follow the show, share it with a friend who cares about liturgy and clarity, and leave a quick review. January First is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics (meaning that Mass attendance is required), also observed by some Protestants (Anglicans & Lutherans) as a related feast. On this day, the Church proclaims Mary as Theotokos (God-bearer), affirming that the Son she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit is truly God and truly man. The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is thus a liturgical celebration observed on January 1st and marks the octave of Christmas, celebrating her divine motherhood. St. Pope John Paul the II memorably observed that the Catholic Church comes from the eucharist and that the eucharist, in turn, comes from priests. As Bishop Barron noted in a recent letter to his diocese, "by an inescapable logic [therefore] no priests, no Church." We should add, however, that priests come from bishops, which expands the ecclesial logic to this: no bishops, no priests; no priests, no eucharist; no eucharist, no church. In other words, bishops not only hold an important administrative position within the Church; tracing their authority back to the apostles and, ultimately, to Jesus Christ himself, they constitute the very sacramental and liturgical foundation of Catholicism itself. That, to say the least, is a weighty responsibility. So what is it like to be a bishop? How does one come to hold this office? What, specifically, do bishops have authority over–and what don't they have authority over? What kind of relationship do they have with each other and with the Holy Father, the pope? What are their day-to-day obligations and activities?  And what are some challenges they face that both clergy and laity may not be aware of? A listener asks what made Bishop Barron want to be a priest. Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel (Matthew 21:23–27), the chief priests and elders question Jesus: “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”They missed the fact that Jesus speaks with authority of being God himself, as he said to the followers of John the Baptist, as we learned yesterday on Gaudete Sunday.“Go and tell John what you hear and see:the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.”It's the same God who says, “Lazarus, come out!” (John 11:43), and the dead man comes out of the grave. He rebukes the wind there is calm (Mark 4:39).And Christ's authority is the wisdom of his Church.“If we are simply the guardians of one interesting philosophical perspective among many, then we are powerless. Our power comes—and this remains a great mystery—only when we speak with the authority of Jesus Christ,” Bishop Barron writes.Ave MariaCome, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Pope Leo XIV has recently formally declared St. John Henry Newman—who was canonized only in 2019 by Pope Francis—a doctor of the Catholic Church, a recognition given only to 37 other saints in Catholicism's over 2000 year history. This places Newman among great figures like St. Augustine, St. Gregory the Great, St. Jerome, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Theresa de Avila, St. Catherine of Sienna, and the Little Flower, St. Therese of Lisieux. What is the significance of giving St. John Henry Newman—an Englishman and Anglican convert to Catholicism who was born over 200 years ago—this title? What is it about Newman's approach to communicating the faith that earned him this great honor—and why now?  Equally important, how can contemporary evangelists draw inspiration from his work to proclaim the Gospel in a drastically different world, religiously and morally, from Newman's 19th century Victorian England? A listener asks for advice on how to give better homilies at Mass. 00:00 | Introduction 01:26 | Bishop Barron's recent domestic travels 03:20 | Defining "Doctor of the Church" 04:55 | Distinguishing doctors from saints 05:50 | John Henry Newman's brief biography 12:18 | Understanding the development of doctrine 17:41 | Safeguards against corruption 22:33 | The wholeness of the truth 25:34 | Newman: "To live is to change" 29:28 | The "illative sense" of the mind's assent to propositions 34:10 | Difficulties vs. doubt 35:54 | How Newman speaks to England now 37:55 | Listener question: How can priests improve preparation for homilies? 39:58 | Join the Word on Fire Institute   Links: Word on Fire Institute: https://institute.wordonfire.org/ NOTE: Do you like this podcast? Become a Word on Fire IGNITE member!
