Guest: Alex Smereczniak— Serial entrepreneur, former CEO of 2ULaundry & Laundry Lab (over $100M valuation, 118 franchises sold), founder of Franzy (30,000+ monthly users, $3M+ raised to help people buy “cash-flowing” businesses). Early Hustles & First Big Win: Started with classic entrepreneurial pursuits: trading cards, washing cars as a kid, and then running a laundry delivery business (“Wake Wash”) in college, which he bought for $30,000 and sold for nearly $300,000 after systematizing and scaling it. Learned about discounted cash flow, buy/sell agreements, and the real value of recurring cash flow and business structure early on. Scaling, Strategy, and Differentiation: Moved from a student business to working for a Big Four consulting firm (Ernst & Young), but quickly realized he needed to build businesses—not just advise them. Launched 2ULaundry in 2016: delivered laundry/dry cleaning to homes and businesses, quickly scaling through tech and operations, later vertically integrating by building brick-and-mortar laundromats with Electrolux, and ultimately franchising the model for rapid growth. Grew Laundry Lab to 118 franchise awards and 30 locations open as of 2025. Laundromats as a Business Model: Low failure rate due to essential, “recession proof” services—people always need clean clothes—combined with cash-flow and passive income advantages. The “Power Play”: Buy from retiring owners, retool equipment over time, tap into durable local demand. Challenges, Automation & Venture Backing: Success meant more than cash-flow: his companies required operational discipline, vertical integration, and large capital outlays (laundromat builds exceed $1M). Venture capital was attracted by the “Uber for Laundry” home-delivery angle, but Alex's model matured into a blend of tech, local infrastructure, and scalable franchising. Why Franchising Needs Disruption — Enter Franzy: Traditional franchise placement is “Wild West,” with brokers sometimes pocketing up to 60% of franchise fees, influencing which opportunities new entrepreneurs see. Franzy's mission: Take a “Zillow for Franchising” approach—leverage AI for franchise matching (across 4000+ brands), standardized fees, and transparency to empower more everyday people to buy real businesses. Focuses on each buyer's risk profile, lifestyle, and goals; not just “make the most money,” but “fit the best business to the person.” Franchise Trends & Business Models to Watch: Still bullish on laundromats for certain profiles (cash-flow, de-risked, lifestyle), but now sees huge growth in health & wellness, home services, and viral consumer brands (e.g. PopUp Bagels, HRT clinics, anything innovating with AI or “cult” followings). Anticipates continued “displacement” of white-collar jobs by AI; business ownership, franchising, and “betting on yourself” are the safest long-term play for income and autonomy. Alongside running laundromats, Jordan built a thriving membership model, courses, and a podcast to guide others entering the business. With a team of seven, he focuses on customer experience, community impact, and sustainable growth. His story reflects how resilience, learning from setbacks, and smart scaling can lead to remarkable success in both business and life. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Jordan Berry shared that the hardest part of growing a small business has been managing the emotional ups and downs. The highs can be exhilarating, but the lows can be tough, and staying steady without quitting has been his biggest challenge. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Jordan Berry shared that his favorite business book is Buy Back Your Time by Dan Martell. It helped him shift his mindset to focus only on the work he should personally do while delegating the rest. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Jordan Berry shared that he learns a lot from podcasts and online resources like Alex Hormozi, Lewis Howes, and Ed Mylett. He also recommends the Marketing School Podcast by Neil Patel and Eric Siu for quick, practical marketing insights. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Jordan Berry shared that one of the most valuable resources for business growth is solid bookkeeping. He recommends tools like QuickBooks or FreshBooks, and ideally working with a CPA, to keep finances clear and under control. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Jordan Berry shared that if he could go back, he would “borrow someone else's 10,000 hours.” Learning from experienced people before starting would have saved him a lot of money, mistakes, and emotional strain. Jeffrey Epstein's reach into academia was not an accident—it was a deliberate campaign of influence, and the institutions that took his money were not naïve. From Harvard University to MIT, prestigious institutions shamelessly accepted millions from Epstein, even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor. He was paraded through campuses, granted offices, and allowed to rub elbows with some of the most powerful intellectuals in the world. Harvard, for example, gave him a personal office and continued to associate with him long after his reputation had been shredded. MIT Media Lab staff referred to him as “Voldemort”—he who must not be named—while simultaneously courting his funding in secret, proving the hypocrisy wasn't subtle, it was baked into the institution. What's more damning is the moral contortionism these institutions employed to justify their partnerships. Academia, which claims to be a beacon of ethics and enlightenment, became a laundromat for Epstein's blood money. Professors, researchers, and administrators who should have known better either stayed silent or openly defended the transactions, rationalizing them with talk of “advancing science” or “unrestricted gifts.” In truth, they weren't advancing anything but their own ambitions and budgets. 1976 - Lewiston, Maine. On a cold November morning in 1976, 27-year-old Dorothy Milliken—Dotty to those who loved her—was found bludgeoned to death outside Beal's Laundromat in Lewiston, ME. A paperboy made the grim discovery around 4:30 a.m. She'd gone out to do some late-night laundry, and while the city still slept, someone ended her life. Her killer has never been caught. As the years passed, Dorothy's case went cold. But long before her name joined Maine's growing list of unsolved murders, Dorothy Rancourt Milliken was living a quiet, honest life. She was a veteran. A survivor. A mother. This is her story.  This is part 1 of 2. Part 2 will be released on June 17th.  If you have any information on the murder of Dorothy Milliken, please contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South at (207)624-7076 x9. The family is offering a $10k reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
