And for those of you curious about the Jekyll & Hyde song I mentioned, you’re welcome. This is Colm Wilkinson’s performance on the 1990 concept album. Gate Pose is a perfect beginner posture. I love that it can be used as a variation to Extended Triangle, Extended Side Angle and Reverse Warrior. It can also has advanced variations, taking the pose into its deepest stretch of the body making it speaking to more advanced or flexible practitioners. The Sanskrit name for this pose, "Parighasana" (pahr-eee-GAHS-uh-nuh), comes from the word "parigha," which refers to a bar or beam that is used to lock a gate. In the full version of the pose, your body mimics the look of a locked gate. I think it looks like a sailboat. Enjoy & incorporate it into your personal practice! NAMASTE! This new series will breakdown some of the most popular yoga poses you will see in most yoga sequences. Learning to do the individual pose correctly as well as how to modify the pose for your body or create more challenges for those who are more advanced will make your yoga practice more fun allowing you to experience the true benefits of yoga and most importantly prevent injury at the same time. Listen to the yoga pose breakdown and follow along. I'm going to stop saying that I'm going to post more episodes more often. I absolutely don't know! Agh! Mind you, I'm now all set up technically, finally! I've been recording more consistently, so now it's just a about editing and posting :) I have recorded more than one class, and I'm refining my workflow so that I can TRULY post more episodes. I'm sure you all know by now, I'm a new Mom. My little baby is 7 months as I write this post. She has now settled into herself more, which is allowing me time to step into my own self. The only time that I have to upload, edit, post, etc. is when Hunter is sleeping. Those naps are the sacred time when I can do fun stuff like this podcast, PLUS all of the gazillion things that I have to catch up on: dishes, showers, general clean up, answering emails, paying bills, you get the picture. All I can say is that there aren't enough hours in the day to do ALL that I want to do. My life continues to ebb and flow and my biggest focus is on always remembering to constantly re-align....OH, that's the next episode! In this week's episode I talk about LISTENING. It was all brought about by my latest venture: teaching other yoga teachers/professionals to podcast. I actually did my first 'virtual' workshop! It was very cool. Anyway, within the workshop I explained why I'm partial to an AUDIO yoga class as opposed to VIDEO. Y'all can listen to my intro to find out why ;) And my new site! YoGeek.Me Thank you for continuing to listen. I so appreciate you guys very very much. Enjoy the yoga class! Here are all the places that you can find me! As we step into spring and move forward transitioning from the darker days to the lighter days see if you can find some personal time to honor your process, your bod, your heart - basically your yoga. Notice what is coming to fruition and what still in a stage of evolution. My teachers have said to me in many ways that inside we all have potential that is like a bija (seed), which is filled with possibilities now take note of what the soil of your awareness is in which these seeds are being cultivated in. After going through my own process of teaching for 5 years and becoming a certified Anusara teacher, I have learned that there is not just one way to do anything that there are many ways honoring our way of unfolding that works for each of us. When we give ourselves permission to be, to nurture, to see where we are in the process we are able to find ease on and off the mat. Enjoy the beauty of spring and see in nature how each tree, bud and blade of grass expresses itself in its own way just as you do.
