About Alex: Alex Lawrence is currently the Executive Director for Advancement Leadership Lab. Her role focuses on ALL's growth strategy, alumni experience, and overseeing our board of directors and stakeholder partnerships. Alex is no stranger to the leadership lab as she developed the pilot curriculum in 2018, and is thrilled to be back in this role as the organization continues to expand its impact. Her career has challenged her to consistently act like a start-up operator: developing people and structuring culturally competent organizations from the ground up.Alex started her career as an HR consultant for SPX, an international manufacturing company. She led projects in recruiting and mergers and acquisitions in Charlotte, NC and Battle Creek, MI, talent and organizational development in Dusseldorf, Germany, and labor negotiations and employee relations in Delavan, WI and Ocala, FL. This HR work led to a passion for building the talent pipeline and she transitioned to Red Ventures, a marketing acquisition company in Charlotte, NC. Alex led college recruitment strategy and execution at target universities to hire 50 analyst and web developer associates a year. She handled new associate onboarding and career trajectory plans, as well as recruited for HR, finance, and computer engineering roles at RV. Recruiting college talent led Alex back into the classroom at The Ohio State University. During graduate school, Alex held a role in Student Life Advancement, focusing on student philanthropy and leadership development. She stayed at the university post-graduation working as Project Manager for the President and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association. In this role, Alex handled administrative duties and projects for the CEO, while acting as a communications partner for department leaders across the alumni association and Advancement. Her family later took her to Phoenix, AZ where Alex worked for an international access-to-education non-profit as the Director of Communications and Marketing, traveling between the U.S. and Arusha, Tanzania. As mentioned above, she then had the opportunity to work from Phoenix to develop the inaugural curriculum for the Advancement Leadership Lab in 2018, and launch the pilot program across 10 universities. In 2019, Alex had the opportunity to return to Columbus, leading organizational operations as Chief of Staff for the Ohio State Alumni Association and stayed on as an advisor for the Advancement Leadership Lab. Transitioning to the Advancement Leadership Lab over the last year as its own 501c3 has been an exciting opportunity, combining Alex's experience in human resources, leadership development, and business operations to build the foundation for an impactful and sustainable organization.Alex has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and Counseling Psychology from Elon University and a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University. She lives in Columbus, OH with her husband, Danny, and puppy son, Larry. Alex enjoys her side gigs of interior design clients and teaching at CorePower Yoga.About Michael: A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Mike Eicher began his career in higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he rose from associate director of development in the School of Medicine to deputy director and director, and from there to vice provost for medical science development, then assistant and associate vice chancellor. Under his leadership as vice chancellor, Campaign UCLA, a 10-year effort completed in 2005, raised $3.05 billion. Prior to joining Ohio State, Mike served for six years as senior vice president for external affairs and development at Johns Hopkins University, where he led the Johns Hopkins: Knowledge for the World Campaign. That effort focused on student aid and faculty support, construction of clinical buildings at the medical campus and important renovation projects. It closed in 2008 with commitments of more than $3.7 billion. Mike returned to a public university because he believes in its noble mission and great power. He joined Ohio State in fall 2012 as senior vice president for Advancement and president of The Ohio State University Foundation. Building on his goal to inspire people to choose Ohio State – for their education, medical care, research support, entertainment and more – he has set out to share the university's most compelling stories, engage more than half a million alumni, and expand private philanthropy to support Ohio State's core priorities. Under Mike's direction, Ohio State streamlined and integrated its communications and marketing, alumni relations and fundraising teams. He led the But for Ohio State Campaign, which raised over $3 billion from more than 750,000 donors and became the university's most successful fundraising effort ever. Mike built upon that momentum and, along with his team, planned and launched Time and Change: The Ohio State Campaign in fall 2019. While its financial goal is the largest in Ohio State's history — $4.5 billion focused on student success; discovery; and healthy, vibrant communities — what truly sets this campaign apart from all others is its goal to engage 1 million supporters, which is unprecedented in higher education. Mike is focused on organizational growth, health, and wellness, which led to Advancement's establishment of a chief diversity officer position and the Advancement Inclusion Council. Both serve as resources by providing personal and professional development opportunities for staff. Mike's commitment to putting people first has been instrumental in the transformation of Advancement during his tenure. He lives in Columbus with his wife, Inez, and travels frequently. They have two grown children: Brandon Eicher (Kate) and Christine Peterson (Shane). They also have three young granddaughters who they love to spend time with.

Nike Master Trainer and Founder of Warrior Retreats Branden Collinsworth and Blu discuss the story of how Warrior Retreats came to be. From Branden's first trip to Peru, to sitting with the medicine for the first time, to receiving permission from the spirit of Peru to bring others down there to heal – Branden shares his dedication to creating reciprocity with the country of Peru through service and the bringing together individuals who are heart-centered.   === Timestamps:   0:00 Intro 6:55 The Story of Warrior Retreats 27:19 Blu's Personal Experience in Peru 34:00 The Service Aspect of Retreats 45:35 Peru Has Her Own Consciousness 52:21 The Full Spectrum of Peru 1:01:18 Branden's Reflection of Blu 1:03:14 The Screening Process for Warrior Retreats 1:12:06 Conclusion   ===   Branden Collinsworth:   In 2002, Branden Collinsworth was broke, homeless, and a high school dropout. Destined for either prison or death, it was at his lowest that he made the powerful decision to change his life and also his heart.   Branden decided to go after his dreams and transcend the streets that enslaved him.    He founded The Jump for Joy Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping kids lead healthier lives. Branden then built Real Results Fitness, an award-winning chain of high-performance gyms throughout Las Vegas.    He went on to become an internationally renowned performance coach, one of the first trainers signed globally to Nike, and even received his Master's in Positive Psychology from UPenn.    After beating the odds and receiving the accolades of success, Branden knew this wasn't his final stop. He set out to travel the world in pursuit of expanding upon his love for learning, human optimization, and global impact.     From 2016-2022, Branden lived in Peru, Bali, Thailand, Hawaii, and India, where he dove deep into the study of yoga, indigenous plant medicine, Osteo-Thai massage, and Muay Thai kickboxing.    In 2018 he was chosen by the Indian government / Ministry of Ayush  as one of the US ambassador of Yoga, spending ten days in Kerala, India, learning about yoga, it's traditions and its origins.   In 2019 Branden collaborated with Nike to launch Nike Yoga - Nike's first yoga performance apparel line. He also co-created the first comprehensive yoga program on the Nike Training Club app, with workouts that serve millions across the world monthly.   Inspired by his travels, Branden became fiercely passionate about humanitarian work and giving back to the places that gave him so much. In 2017 he launched Warrior Retreats: A 16-day physical and spiritual rite of passage for leaders in Peru.    He also stands as the Global Director for The Tropical Pathology and Infectious Disease Association, a humanitarian nonprofit based in Peru that helps minority students get into medical school.   In 2020 Branden became one of the Founding Experts for Mined - the first digital emotional platform that is rooted in amplifying emotional wellbeing and human pathos.    Currently Branden is serving as head of Innovation and Human Performance for Core Power Yoga and is still diligently at work with Nike as one of their Global Trainers and Yoga Teachers.   Branden is committed to creating a global movement for love built upon his own training fundamentals: mindset, movement, meditation, and mastery.   Warrior Retrats - www.warriorretreats.com    Warrior Retreats Video - https://youtu.be/   Ted Talk -  https://youtu.be/kadse8DqMkU   BIO Video - https://youtu.be/fX4FXII9mig   Mine'd - Access to 200+ of my lectures https://brandencollinsworth.doyoumined.com   ===   BLU: https://www.instagram.com/bluofearth/ https://www.bluofearth.com/ https://www.florescence.earth   Sign up for BEQOMING Prosperous 4-week Digital Course: https://secure.beqoming.me/a/ZB6SDd5KB6/496   If you feel inspired, watch the full BEQOMING Blu documentary https://youtu.be/K01sU5L4afw   Follow BEQOMING on Instagram: https://instagram.com/beqoming?igshid=YWJhMjlhZTc=   DONATE TO THE DEJA BLU PODCAST:  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=VACWQVBHTCQ3QSupport the Deja Blu Podcast: https://www.patreon.com/dejablupodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

If you've been following the podcast you know I LOVE Yoga. It is a HUGE part of my life and has been a major part of my overall well being, healing, connection to myself and the world. Simply put, yoga has become a way of life for me of sorts. But it wasn't always that way. When I was first introduced to yoga, I had been a runner for years and I just wasn't sure whether I could get the same results in yoga that I did with running. Well I was right. I didn't get the same results. I got SO much more than I ever could have imagined. I got peace. Inner connection. Friendship. Inspiration. Intention. Healing. Reflection. Growth. Self awareness. Freedom. Love.Yoga is a mind, body spirit practice. It is a way to connect first and foremost with our bodies and our breath. But beyond that, it is a way of thinking, feeling and being. In this week's interview, I speak with one of my very favorite Yoga Instructors from Core Power Yoga at the Paradise Valley Location in Arizona, Amanda Sheble. Amanda and I connected immediately and I'm positive there was divine intervention going on in our meeting in this lifetime. In the interview we cover a LOT of spiritual and physical ground. We get into: How yoga can bring our trauma to the surface and allow it and flow through it and lead to healingHow yoga makes us more aware of our physical bodies and creates a connection between the mind body spiritWhy certain poses can bring feelings to the surfaceWhat is trauma and how our bodies hold onto itHow yoga helped me navigate and express the grief of my divorceWhy and how I shifted from running to yogaHow yoga can be healing if you have eating disordersWhat is an intention in yoga and why it makes a class so soul filling and healingSanskrit, Chakras, Asanas, Yamas, Intentions, yoga philosophy and rootsWhat is non attachment and how it relates to your lifeLearning to listen to what your body needs on a given day and flowing with what feels goodWhat does it mean to live a yoga life and how to do it Why letting go in yoga and in life is so hardHow to let yoga bring more mindfulness into your life and why it mattersLoved this combo and love geeking out on yoga! If you haven't tried yoga yet. it's never too late and literally anyone can do it. Know that yoga is SO much more than a workout, it's a way of life that will bring peace, calm, knowing and healing - even in your first class!Connect with See The Upside:Website - www.SeetheUpside.comInstagram - @see.theupsideFacebook - See The UpsideConnect with Core Power:Website: https://www.corepoweryoga.com/

This week, Workout Woman aka Ashley Fern (@disco_infern0) shares her latest workout review. The episode kicks off with Aleen and Ashley catching up and then they share their DSTW of the week. Ashley's is about finally hitting a workout goal she was striving for and Aleen's is about getting rid of things from her closet that were no longer serving her. Aleen then reads a listener DSTW about learning to be more comfortable with wearing crop tops and how the listener was able to overcome her internal dilemma in time for a big performance. They then get into the workout report of the month, which came highly recommended: CorePower Yoga. To start off, they address the bad press that the company has gotten, but remind DST'ers that this review is about the workout and not the business itself. Ashley then breaks down what her class experiences have been like at different CPY studios, if it's worth going back, and her overall thoughts on the workout aka if the workout is worth needing to wash your hair. Don't forget to submit your recommendations for workout classes for Ashley to try by dming @dietstartstomorrow or emailing dst@betches.com.

Acting upon what we feel passionate about and pursuing good ideas is not just for those who hate their jobs or are desperate for a new source of income. Joe Comsti and his co-founders Vince Ruggeri and Robbie Hall identified a new way to look at one of the most important aspects of the human experience, physical fitness. Their program, Habit of Health LLC, combines aspects of many popular health programs alongside other components of our health, including nutrition and good mental habits. In this episode, they join Stephen Jaye to discuss the importance of taking care of our bodies, the current state of the fitness industry, and the importance of building a brand. They go deep into the struggles that keep people unmotivated about being healthy and then offer some tips on overcoming them. Imparting wisdom to those trying to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams, they also share the things they learned best about building a brand that can support your life and, at the same time, help others. Join Joe, Vince, and Robbie in this engaging conversation to learn more.  --- Listen to the podcast here: Powered by Podetize Habit Of Health: Building A Brand That Keeps People In Good Physical Health With Joe Comsti, Vince Ruggeri, and Robbie Hall  One key aspect of anyone's life is our physical fitness. Our ability to take on whatever challenge we're looking for is limited by how much we can handle in our bodies and being in good physical shape does help us maintain and increase our energy level. I'd like to introduce Joe Comsti along with Vince and Rob, who have started their own LLC around keeping people in good physical health called Habit of Health. How are you all doing?  We are good.  First, tell me the inspiration behind Habit of Health. What made you decide to take on this venture?  "If your #1 goal is to make money, then I think you can quickly get away from what your actual goals are."  During COVID times and everything, we just hung out with people in the neighborhood. Rob is our neighbor and we're all fitness junkies. That was the closing of the gyms, I went to CrossFit and I had a running coach. Rob coaches at CorePower Yoga and we taught fitness, we love working out. I had a nice home gym built which has expanded into what Habit of Health is now. We talked about it. Why do I CrossFit? Why does Vince power lift? Why does Rob do yoga? Is one better than the other? I think and we believe that the answer is that one isn't better than the other. All fitness and being cardiovascular or being healthy in general is about getting out there and moving.  That's a problem with a lot of the fitness industry, that if you go to CorePower Yoga, you get CorePower Yoga, if you go to CrossFit, you get CrossFit, you go to Orangetheory, you get Orangetheory. CrossFit and CorePower yoga isn't for everybody. The idea of Habit of Health revolves around that idea but instead of telling you how and what you should be doing, it's, “Here is everything.” We do a little strength, HITT, yoga, running and we're slowly adding to our arsenal of tools that we can teach people how to do. We will never tell anybody that you have to show up to yoga, you have to show up to HIIT or you have to be doing strength stuff. It's about moving. Being healthy is all about getting out there and doing something.  That's one of the challenges of our current times. A lot of us have jobs and lifestyles that are quite sedentary. We see it all around when the human body was meant to move. I've had periods where for one reason or another, a cold snap with temperatures below zero, I didn't move for several days and all of a sudden I realized, “I feel crappy. I don't feel well.” The human body wasn't meant to just sit in front of a computer or some screen for 12, 14, 16, 18 hours a day. It was meant to move. Can you tell us a little bit about this conversation that led to the revelation about what Habit of Health became?

Episode 40 is a fun one because our guest is one of my best friends, Britta Noble. She's a fitness industry expert, past owner of a Pure Barre studio and now owns and operates Social Distance Sweat. We stay (mostly) on track in this episode, but certainly dive right in—and Britta will tell you the truth! She talks about what it was like owning a Pure Barre studio, the good and bad of owning a franchise, her advice to those who want to own their own gym, how the fitness landscape has changed over the years, giving ourselves grace through our different fitness seasons and more. It's a great one, guys. Let's get to it. In this episode, we talk about: Britta's experience buying a Pure Barre franchise and owning & operating a studio the ins and outs of fitness franchises (the good & the bad) her advice for those wanting to start a gym or buy a franchise how she sold her Pure Barre studio her new outdoor sculpt classes, Social Distance Sweat her thoughts on how fitness has changed and what it might look like going forward her own fitness journey and the idea of giving ourselves grace through our different seasons of life & more All about Britta: Britta is a fitness lover, instructor, mom of 2 (and 3/4), wife, and general lover of all things healthy living. As the former owner of Pure Barre Preston Hollow (2014-2018), she has taught thousands of Pure Barre classes and also holds her certification in Yoga Sculpt through Corepower Yoga. Her current fitness endeavor, celebrating its first birthday this Summer, combines elements of barre, yoga, and HIIT in various outdoor East Dallas locations. Dubbed “Social Distance Sweat,” the concept came to life when many were craving the social interaction and external motivation during Covid-induced indoor studio closures; today, it remains with a loyal following as a way to enjoy the great outdoors while getting a great workout - all in 45 minutes. When not encouraging her classes to sink one inch lower in their squat, Britta enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband (arguably way more fit than she — three-time Ironman triathlete, ultra-marathoner, and CrossFit fiend) and two kids - Summit and Camilla - all while trying to squeeze in as much travel and adventure as possible before Baby 3 makes her arrival in August.
