In this episode of The Integrated Life podcast, Diana tells of a recent time when praying for a close friend's very ill granddaughter. She had an "Awe Ha" moment to understand that God provides His strength through humility. Many times, we think of humility as being weak, but it is through being humble that we access God's strength. Psalm 149:4 (NLT), For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Listen to learn more. (BTW - the little girl was healed miraculously and is back at school.) Beach yoga is on the agenda for this week's Ryecast as I join Joanna Allen from “The Humble Warrior” for one of her classes on Camber Sands. She's back in Rye after some huge life changes which have seen her leave behind a highly stressed job in fashion and replace it with teaching meditation and mindfulness. She says: “From what I was doing then to what I'm doing now, I'm totally unrecognisable. It's so different but so much better.”After the class we grab a coffee at Camber Landing as Jo tells me about how the nature around Rye inspires her, leaving the stresses of London life behind, and how she enjoys helping others through her sessions. As well as yoga on the beach, there's a yurt in Appledore where she hosts retreats including full moon ceremonies. She tells me she doesn't miss her old lifestyle. "I'd just come back from a gruelling trip and discovered a new yoga class setting up at the end of my road. I knew things needed to change, so I gave it a go. And here I am now!”You can hear more about Jo's journey, and how I got on with my first yoga class (spoiler alert: I'm not very supple...), on this week's Ryecast podcast Find out more about Jo Allen, beach yoga and her retreats here https://www.the-humblewarrior.co.uk/Namaste.

Juneteenth, is representative of America's first step to Humanizing the inhabitants of the land; pinky toe in the water. July 4th is the celebrated independence day of America, however: if any person is restricted access to Human Rights, is anyone truly free? We will celebrate the dream of independence America promised, by reaching out to individuals in the community; and giving voice to their Humanity. Each individual We speak to belongs to those minimized groups overlooked too often in society, and We hope by hearing them; We will strive for Human rights for every person; starting with their voice. Good marketing is all about relationship-building, isn't it?On today's episode, I had the opportunity to talk to Elaine Brewer, one of the founders of Humble Warrior Wellness Center, who reminded me that's exactly what marketing is about. The Wellness Center helps veterans and first responders with their mental and physical health, by offering resources, services, and classes. Interestingly, Elaine's organization just launched—so they're addressing some daunting challenges. In a nutshell, they're trying to raise money, navigate the pandemic, and build relationships and connections all at once. That's been creating some real concerns about what to do first. Our conversation focused primarily on creating strong connections with stakeholders and learning to lean on those authentic connections before you go for a big ask. This led to a discussion about tactics—for example, how to find connections using Sales Navigator or break up projects into smaller bite-sized pieces. We also talked about ways to leverage different channels of communication and resources, like starting a podcast to get your message out there and build an enthusiastic and engaged audience. Elaine is doing some important work. and we're excited to follow her journey. Elaine & Heath Brewer - founders of Humble Warrior Wellness Center - where together they dedicate their profession to the provision of restorative services and techniques with the goal to bring harmony and balance to the hyper-vigilant and traumatic work environments that veterans, first responders and emergency medical professionals experience in their daily work. Elaine and Heath have been married for 15 years. Elaine earned a 200hr Baptiste affiliated Yoga Teacher Training Certification, Certified Warriors at Ease Yoga Instructor (Level 1 & Level 2), StrongFirst Training and Instruction SFG Kettlebell Course, Madd Dog Certified Spinning Instructor, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and holds a certificate in The Science of Well-Being from Yale University and Specialization in Integrative Health and Medicine from University of Minnesota. Heath is a Navy Veteran retiring after 20 years of service supporting Navy Special Operations with specific service supporting SEAL Team 2 and Naval Special Warfare Development Group as their Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician to include over 12 operational deployments. After attending a life-changing intensive outpatient program at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), a specialized branch of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Heath became intimately aware of the rejuvenating and healing properties of meditation, yoga, and other mindfulness techniques. Elaine, having also experienced trauma and loss associated with Heath's time in service, decided to shift her focus from her physical health background to incorporate mental health resilience and Elaine quickly recognized the restorative and therapeutic properties with the mind/body connection that yoga and meditation provide along with the undeniable benefits it offers those who have experienced trauma in their lives. So much so, that this shared experience between Elaine and Heath became the inspiration to create a wellness center for veterans, first responders, and emergency medical personnel called the Humble Warrior Wellness Center. This week I had an awesome conversation with Elaine and Heath Brewer from Humble Warrior Wellness. These two have established a Wellness Center that incorporates yoga, meditation and other relevant methods of integrative and holistic therapies to help veterans and first responders deal with the inevitable stressors associated with their jobs. Heath is a combat veteran, deployed 12 times as a Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician and was completely unaware of the mental toll his time in service had caused. Only after attending a life-changing intensive outpatient program at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), a specialized branch of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, did he and Elaine become aware of the massive benefits of meditation, yoga, and other mindfulness techniques. Elaine is a 15yr military spouse. After witnessing so much trauma and loss within Heath’s military unit, she decided to shift her focus from physical health to mental health resilience and founded the Humble Warrior Wellness Nonprofit. Since then, these two have been committed to building a facility that enables both veterans and first responders to reap the benefits of holistic therapies. Be sure to check them out at https://www.humblewarriorwellnesscenter.org/ and on Instagram at Humble_Warrior_Welness
This is how I'd best describe Manoj Dias. A humble warrior, beautiful friend to me and a teacher for the world, this legend's energy is something else. We met well over a decade ago in the party scene and even then he was always my safe space. If Manoj was around I felt like an angel was watching over me, for real!Prior to the life he leads now Manoj was climbing the corporate ladder working his ass off and seemingly "had it all". The job, income, invites, parties, you name it. Yet anxiety was building inside him and escaping through drinking and drugs wasn't cutting it anymore. Insomnia was impairing him and his thoughts were all too consuming. This inevitably led to a major panic attack which scared the living shit out of him, but opened the door to finding alternative solutions to what was going on inside. His shift from where he was to where he is today reminds us that real and lasting change for the better is possible. It sure isn't easy but it's possible when you take responsibility and accountability for where you are, what you're prepared to do about it and where you'd prefer to be. The work he shares through writing, meditation and speaking pierces straight through your heart and is the medicine our souls longs for. The world is a better place with Manoj in it.Website - https://www.manojdias.com.au/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/manojdias_/Open - https://www.instagram.com/op_e___n/Insight Timer - https://insighttimer.com/manojdias
Hi friends, Welcome to episode 13 “Wisdom from a Humble Warrior” of the Light on Living podcast. This time I am thrilled to introduce you Michael, who is a real and humble warrior. Michael spent 21 years in the military, working in the US navy as a Chief Hospital Corpsman. Since retiring from service, he fulfills his hearts desire for fighting others on the tatami. He is the founder and main instructor of Wisdom Jiu-Jitsu, an affiliation academy of Carlos Varona, located in Jerez, Andalucia. In this conversation, Michael shares his views on what it really means to be of the warrior class, and what its like to come back home from a warzone. We talk about the perspective on reality that comes with the experience of going beyond the comfortable zone inside which most people live, without realising the price someone else is paying for their freedom. I think you will find this conversation as enlightening, heart-warming and mind-blowing as I did. You can connect with Micheal and find out more about his Jiu-Jitsu team via instagram @wisdombjj08 Thank you for tuning your beautiful ears and hearing us out. Please remember to like, share, subscribe, follow, and give us a review wherever you are listening to this. Great conversations are always worth sharing. From the Heart, Maya
Support Burning Ambulance on Patreon Get the Burning Ambulance email newsletter Episode 55 of the Burning Ambulance podcast features an interview with saxophonist Wayne Escoffery. Fair warning: there are some sound dropouts here and there on this episode, because I got a new iPhone and consequently had to try out a different method of recording. So this conversation was recorded through my laptop using a Skype phone call, and for the most part it worked, but there are a few moments where it doesn’t. I’ve been following Wayne Escoffery’s career for a long time; the first time I interviewed him for Burning Ambulance was in 2012. For a long time, he was in trumpeter Tom Harrell’s band, and for even longer than that, and up to the present day, he’s been a member of the Mingus Big Band, which played on Monday nights at the Jazz Standard in New York back when live jazz was a thing. He’s also made some really excellent records as a leader. The 2012 album The Only Son Of One and the 2018 album Vortex were real breakthroughs, allowing him to show deeply personal and at times even political aspects of his music. He was born in England and moved to the US as a child when his mother left her husband, who was apparently not a great guy. Some of the music on The Only Son Of One is about that, and about coming to grips with his father generally. The music on Vortex deals with life in America following the 2016 presidential election, and particularly the cultural environment’s effects on his son. His new album, The Humble Warrior, is autobiographical in a more oblique way, and we talk about that some, but what’s really important on all of these records is that the music is terrific, a blend of hard bop tradition with real melodic and harmonic innovation. Escoffery is also one of the co-founders, along with trumpeter Jeremy Pelt (who was on episode 21, way back in 2018), of the Black Art Jazz Collective. Their third album, Ascension, recently came out, and while it features three new members, it’s very much in line with what they’ve been doing to date, which is presenting extremely high level modern acoustic jazz. Trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, piano, bass, and drums, playing complicated melodies and extrapolating on them with really skilled and beautiful solos. We talk a lot about that group, too, and where he sees them fitting into the jazz tradition, particularly in relation to the acoustic jazz of the 1970s. Like everyone else I’ve ever had on this show, Wayne Escoffery is a sharp guy who I had a lot of fun talking to, and I think you’re going to enjoy hearing our conversation. If you do enjoy this podcast, please consider visiting patreon.com/burningambulance and becoming a subscriber. For just $5 a month, you can help keep this show and Burning Ambulance as a whole active and thriving. Thanks! Music heard in this episode: Wayne Escoffery, "Chain Gang" (The Humble Warrior) Black Art Jazz Collective, "Twin Towers" (Ascension)

Plant-fuelled passions surge with this week's trio of innovative products. This week's show gets underway with a discussion about alcoholic drinks, including a truly heroic cocktail recommendation from Ollie. It's not the most apt start though, as this episode focuses on healthy alternatives that don't involve alcohol. Rosh Amarasekara from Humble Warrior is here to tell us about her range of plant-based drinks aimed at the health-conscious adult soft drink market. Using extraordinary plants to create extraordinary flavours – such as reishi and pineapple – Humble Warrior is offering a really different alternative to booze and sweet soft drinks. Luhv Drinks is taking health beverages to a whole new level and they won the Drink Innovation category at last year's Future Food Awards. Through their collaboration with Kings College London, they've created drinks that benefit particular parts of the body – currently these focus on the skin, the heart and the mind, with more in the pipeline. Chris Beech joins the team to explain more. The line-up is completed by another Future Food Awards winner in Seaweed & Co, which triumphed in the Mission Driven category. Dr Craig Rose, aka Doctor Seaweed, tells us why he's so passionate about seeing this Eastern food staple become as popular in the West. He also reveals the rather surprising reason why he decided to study marine biology…

Sun Salutations B fluidly move front to back on the mat and back again, offering full body engagement in standing poses. A special focus on inner thighs will make you smile, or at least notice that you have inner thighs. Crow pose flies by. Fly with it or keep your crow grounded. This is your practice. The next standing series puts it all together as we work up to Airplane pose (aka Warrior 3 Airplane Arms), Humble Warrior, Triangle, and end with the lusciously restorative Wide Leg Forward Fold. As we come down to the mat, more hip openers are offered -- one-legged and two-legged -- as well as some gentle twists. Bound Bridge pose draws on the warmth we have built in our thighs and completes our chest-opening, back-bending adventure. As the descend into stillness begins, a sense of deep well-being is bound* (yoga pun intended!) to wash over you. This class will make your body hum with gratitude, pure joy, and warmth. Enjoy!
